As I told the "eye doctor", I would rather have my teeth cleaned!! It's not the eye exam itself, but the way the staff act & talk --- not very welcoming! They must think because they talk fast & very ABRUPTLY that they are being efficient. Not so! It is not only annoying but makes you feel like they are stressed or being bothered by having to deal with you. During my recent appointment, the only two staff members who actually acted in a pleasant manner were the OD I saw & the lady who checked me out. I had cataracts surgery and the Dr broke the sac , couldn't put the lens in and then lied about what happened. I have no lens and my life has been hell trying to function daily. TOTALLY USELESS! My husband went in for a floater in his vision. It was explained to them when appt was made that he was ONLY there for this. Not for everything else. Well he explained again why he was there. It took them three hours for all exams. Why? Because apparently they decided to do a full diabetic eye exam even though they had been informed he was not there for this. After his eyes were dilated then he was given paperwork to sign, told it was consent to treat etc. Ok, upon leaving he was told he owed a 45 dollar copay. He paid thinking this was odd as he has Medicare and normally is billed after insurance is billed, he had no standard copay for anything. Got a bill from them asking for a 21 dollar payment after his insurance was billed, zero on this bill showing he had made a 45 dollar payment. I called, that bill was for a eye exam for glasses and new prescription for glasses. He gets his glasses and exam for glasses elsewhere due to Spectrum's cost. When I called I was told he was given paperwork explaining that Spectrum was doing an eyeglass exam and it would be 45 bucks. I asked him he said No he was not because he would have told them no. He was only there for the floater in his vision. I was further told that this had been explained to him and he agreed, nope! He further told me he was given the paperwork after he could not see to read it. Again, if he had read it he would have refused. I explained this to woman on phone who said it was their policy because they needed to find out why his vision was only 20/40. Now how did they find out his vision was only 20/40 without having done the vision eye exam for glasses? Basically they lied. He wears glasses, he went in wearing glasses so obviously he has vision issues. But he went in ONLY to find out why he had a floater in his eye. While on the phone going over charges I was told he also had been given this glasses exam because they found bleeding behind his eyes. Number one, nobody told him that, number two I'm looking at the paperwork they sent him home with,NOTHING about a eye bleed on it! This is something you think a patient needs to be told. I was told no he did not need to be told he had bleeding behind his eyes because they cannot treat it only monitor it. WTH? And again the glasses exam was done prior to them finding this bleed. Soooooo lie much Spectrum? As far as I am concerned they owe us a refund for the 45 dollar eye glasses exam. I'e requested his medical file from them. I'll be taking him elsewhere. He was sent home with a note to go buy over the counter eye drops, told the floater would disappear. I took my Mother in law to her appt at Spectrum, guess what, nobody told her they were doing an eye glasses that she'd need to pay 45 dollars for either. But office manager insists this is explained to everyone. No it is not, it is in with the consent to treat paper they point to signature area and say sign here, it is only consent to treat. Run, flee, go to any other place! This is one of only a few eye doctors offices in Findlay so go to Toledo, Lima, anyplace but here! read more

Received a telephone call on 1/16/2023, at 8:45am from Spectrum Eye Care to confirm my eye exam the following day (1/17/23). At 4:45 the same day I received another call from Spectrum Eye Care stating they needed to reschedule my eye exam scheduled the following day because the doctor will be out of the office tomorrow. Reply "Rescheduled to when?" Placed on hold for 2 minutes (I would think Spectrum would already have the next available date) After being on hold "You can come in tomorrow at 1:30 pm because the machine is available, but will need to come back to see the doctor." "I'm not going to come in and then come back in again to see the doctor for my eye exam. You can give me an appt 2-3 months out." Reply "All our doctors are All booked up!" Wish I could give a zero!! Everytime my mom has a appointment we are there for four hours and in that time we see the dr for 10 minutes!!!! When you ask a question about what is going on with her eye you never get a straight answer or they say one thing and next appointment they say another and when you question them about it he always says I never said that will NEVER go back! Found her a new dr that answers All questions and you are not there half the day. Spectrum is not a place to go if you are looking for good eye care. read more

I was recently a patient here. I had cataract surgery for which I paid $1500 out of pocket for laser surgery. I was told repeatedly that it was more accurate and safer. I even had to watch a video on it. I decided to pay the cost for safe and accurate surgery. It was a lot of money but it's my eye after all. I was quite surprised to receive a bill a month later for $880 for my surgery. I was never told that I had to pay more and only when I got the extra bill was then told it wasn't all covered by my insurance. I should have been told upfront about the additional cost, as I would NEVER have paid extra for the laser surgery. Definitely immoral and highly suspect business practice. Take your business to an ethical practice. read more

The office in general is nice and seemed organized, however their billing department is a whole other story. I have been dealing with an issue since 1/14/2020 that is still not resolved. My wife and I went here on the same day for the exact same treatment, my bill was not processed properly but eventually got taken care of, my wife's was denied all together, saying we had a laps in coverage. (not the case) Blue Cross said they didn't show any laps, only that Spectrum billed it as though we had a secondary insurance (not the case). All Spectrum wants to do is blame my insurance, even when I put them on a 3 way call and listened to my insurance Rep, explain to Spectrum what their doing wrong! What a circus. So, another Tim H. left a review. It wasn't me, and my experience has been completely different. I saw Dr. Orr for cataracts in the fall of 2019. Dr. Orr was strictly business at my first appt. After that, I was very happy. It was made clear that I needed to pay for the laser portion of the surgery, both to Spectrum, and the surgery center. Those payments were not covered by insurance, and were due prior to the surgery. As far as the surgery itself I'm extremely pleased. I went from 20/400 uncorrected, to 20/10. I do need readers, but use 1 bifocal contact. Follow ups have been a breeze, an I have no hesitation recommending Spectrum, Dr. Orr, and the surgery center. Oh, part of the process was seeing Dr. Nelson @ Retina Vitreous. He explained in detail his part or the surgery prep. Super experience! read more

Clinically, I have no issue with the medical staff. However, if you tell them of any other medical condition, they will bill your medical insurance instead of your vision care insurance, and you will wind up paying a lot more for a routine eye examination. This happened to me last year, and I really felt like I was taken advantage of. See a similar experience posted by HN, below. I have not been back since. Be very careful when answering medical questions. I have a known allergy to cats and told them that eye allergy drops clear things right up when irritated. Due this routine answer to the question of any allergies or issues, they billed first to my medical insurance and then billed me for the amount that they would normally cover for a routine eye exam. I did not seek advice for this known issue and was only there for a routine eye exam. Seems like a sneaky way to get around the discount they provide to the eye insurance provider for being listed in their network. read more

The doctor visit for my post op lasik was fine, but the ladies in billing have been a nightmare to work with!!! I moved overseas after my visit and have been trying for almost two yearsto get them to make one phone call they need to make to get payment for my bill. She very rudely refused and then proceeded to do nothing else to help me!! Avoid this office if possible! read more

I've been to several optometrists and eye care stores since I began wearing glasses. This is by far my least favorite. I've been more than fair. I've given them a doubt for satisfaction. I've gotten new glasses from them three times now. Have been unhappy with them from my first visit. My wife has never been anywhere else. She said I needed to give them a chance. Now take into mind I've always gotten my lens with all the options, the transition glass, scratch resistant, no line bifocals, every option there is. I always seem to like the better frames which through them are $200-$300. So by the time I've picked out my glasses the cost is about $600. The cost is something I blame a lot on our government. This is a real circle of cost which is started by what government allows Medicare to charge so insurance charges what Medicare allows. Try for yourselves. Call and get pricing for a piece of medical equipment. Call different places. Get a charge going through insurance and paying cash. The difference is scary. I even asked my insurance one time on something I needed to allow me to buy it and them reimburse me because I could buy what had been pricing for almost 1/3 the cost if paying cash. I was even told by places the difference in price is because what insurance allows them to charge which insurance sets what they allow based on what Medicare allows. Now that is sad because Medicare won't pay that price. Now I wear contacts also so my insurance only covers so much. But the biggest problem I've had is that I can never get glasses that I see through well. Blurry vision with either the distance or the reading section of the glasses or both. I wear bifocals. I've complained, to hear from them that my eyes just need to get used to my new glasses. This year I made them recheck my eyes and get me new lenses. The new ones with two chances to get them correct which I was told by the doctor " I'm going to try and get them as well as I can "! That should always be his objective. Well the second ones are just as bad as the first. One lens is good, the other is blurry at distance and reading. I've tried to switch doctors which they won't do. You have to stay with the same doctor. I will be going to a different optometrist and eye glasses store next year. Well beyond my review I've given a lesson in government. read more
