Books-A-Million has a long history going all the way back to 1917 in Florence, Alabama, when 14 year old Clyde W. Today they are the second largest chain of book stores in the U.S. operating close to 300 stores in more than 30 state. Books-A-Million is bright and inviting. They have a large selection of books from classics to the latest bestseller and periodicals but they also sell games, greeting cards, toys, T-shirts, collectibles, candy, house hold goods, collectibles, and more. I especially love their Florida section. This is the kind of store where it is easy to find a gift for that hard to shop for person. I have purchased a lot of presents here through the years as well as the latest beach book. I always discover something unique whenever I stop in. You can order books online but there is something so satisfying about going into a bookstore and holding the books in your hands as you make your decision. All that said, this store also carries a great selection of games and toys as well as vinyls, and checkout was quick--even during the holidays. So on this first visit, I walked out with a couple of children's books and an LP! As good as they are, I have 2 complaints. First off, they're sometimes a bit overpriced. Whether it be an action figure or certain comic, there's been times where I've found them pricing things $2-$15 over market value. While get it's a business, I hate finding something here only to realize I can get it online cheaper. I'm ALWAYS for supporting local businesses but unfortunately it dissuades that. Lastly, sometimes I'll look for a series to start & they'll only have issues #2 & on. While it's not that big of a problem, I always grab issue #1 before any others so this'll cause me to skip out. Usually, however, this doesn't happen often. Overall, Tate's is the place for all your comic & collectible needs. I found the only crate of old records on the corner floor but none that were interesting. Candy, tobacco products, jewelry, magazines and even a quarter push gambling game could be found here. Reminded me of a record shop that I used to frequent back in Queens, NY in the 90s. If you're into rock and metal, you'll definitely love the selection here. They had all kinds of cool albums, including some really interesting sets and Record Store Day releases that you just don't see everywhere. They also had a bunch of reggae, soul and dance LP's. Prices were a little bit higher than you could find online for most things, but there were some deals here and there. My daughter found a bunch of singles for a buck or two that we're going for more money on eBay. She was psyched. One thing that I was disappointed with was that the selection appeared to be like 95% new vinyl. I was hoping to find some used bins to look through but it was really slim pickens for diamonds in the rough. That aside, gotta love a record store like this. It's a humble location; it's in a quiet strip mall off Oakland Park blvd. Honestly, as we pulled in to the mostly empty parking lot I thought we had the wrong location. But as we entered I realized what few mall customers there were, were all in the shop. And what a nice space it was. Old school basic layout that I liked. Just boxes and boxes of vinyl to sift through. They were well organized, with punk, funk, and more all set in their areas. And the RSD specials were displayed above each of the areas they related to. It's not a huge store, but with the limited quantity it helped me find a couple things I liked. Glad to make the acquaintance of We Got the Beats, and hope to be back soon.

The coffee portion was open but I did not try a coffee due to me having one prior to coming here. The shop is very cute. They have neat items/ gifts/ from books to bibles, to jewelry to home decor. The woman who ran the store was very kind, and helpful. They had the most beautiful bible cover books. I ended up buying a beautiful bracelet with my favorite bible quote. The sidewalk next to the front door are $1 used records in boxes. Entered the overstuffed shop with used vinyl, magazines, books and CDs. This record store surely has some well priced hard to find original music in addition to new digital remastered vinyl. Found a few original Kiss, B-52s and Ramones albums. They offer a box of absolutely FREE records with a limit of three per person. The store policy allows customers to test play vinyl on a phonograph before making any purchase - great policy.
