As far as a comic store goes, this place pretty much checks off all the boxes you want. They carry comic books, graphic novels, action figures, artwork, collectibles & the list goes on. They have a huge amount of space inside their store & they utilize every inch. I like how their sections are relatively organized by category, although it can get a bit overwhelming with just how much they have. Everywhere you look there's display cases loaded with figures & bookshelves filled out. They have the best selection of comic books in south Florida, by far. When it comes to quantity & variety they have a great offering. Horror, superheroes, sci-fi, anime; they have some of everything. They keep a nice stock in their weekly release section & carry a lot of sought-after series. While they don't carry every cover variant, they do a good job at having at least a couple for most issues. The workers are usually pretty friendly. They offer help looking for items in their massive store & will point you in the right direction if you have any questions. I've never once had a bad experience in all the years I've been visiting. As good as they are, I have 2 complaints. First off, they're sometimes a bit overpriced. Whether it be an action figure or certain comic, there's been times where I've found them pricing things $2-$15 over market value. While get it's a business, I hate finding something here only to realize I can get it online cheaper. I'm ALWAYS for supporting local businesses but unfortunately it dissuades that. Lastly, sometimes I'll look for a series to start & they'll only have issues #2 & on. While it's not that big of a problem, I always grab issue #1 before any others so this'll cause me to skip out. Usually, however, this doesn't happen often. Overall, Tate's is the place for all your comic & collectible needs. Every time I visit, I always find something new that I didn't notice on my last trip. The selection includes a variety of collectibles, ranging from toys and comics in the Marvel, DC, and Star Wars universes to titles like "The Umbrella Academy." There is also a children's section featuring popular characters like Bluey and Peppa Pig, as well as items related to Godzilla, Pokémon, anime, and graphic novels, including some unique Japanese collectibles. Also there are a great selection of Japanese model kits. So, many quirky items available to discover. As a modern art enthusiast, even located a new contemporary modern art magazine and stickers which in obsessed with. The store is well organized, making it easy to locate everything a collector could desire. Before checking out, be sure to explore the upstairs area, which showcases unique costume jewelry, houseware, art prints, and greeting cards. UPDATED REVIEW: Came back today to hunt for that Spiderman and Hulk 1970's comic book and action figure for my collection - no such luck finding it so I browsed all the toys like I was in a candy store. Customers were at the front desk selling their own comic book collection as I was trying to take a peek. Love Tate's Comics! If you're into collecting comics, new and vintage toys, Japanese animation, manga, and more then it's a great place to come. One of the coolest things there is they have a ton of new and vintage Star Wars toys. Also pokémon, marvel, Doctor Who. All different types of Japanese animation. Plus Japanese snack foods. Also they love art so they have lots of cool art books and art supplies and if you're into cosplay, you can buy materials there. Also have cool statues. And the staff is very helpful always willing to help you find what you're looking for, and the prices are very good there especially when they have a sale. So they have many tent sales and events. Sometimes you have people dressed in character outfits during these events, so it's a lot of fun to bring the kids too. Also upstairs they have the coolest little shop up there called Bird and Bear boutique with the coolest unique items you can find anywhere. Loved the old 1970s and 1980s comics in the rear of the store. Huge replica statues and posters of old movies, DC, and marvel characters throughout. WOW! Love this place. As seekers of Japanese toys, Bandai, die cast metal toys (vs plastic) and Gudetama, my husband and I will go seek out at toy store anywhere we travel that appears to possibly house what we seek. And although Tate's did not contain a lot from under our umbrella of wishes, this place is awesome. For this area of the US, I think Tate's is pretty solid. A big store, really big...one of those stores that you have to really slow down and pay attention for there are things placed and hidden in plain sight all around you. Clearly Hot Toys (figures) are most dominant and abundant. Today, I walked out with a mystery ball containing a 1 inch fuzzy cat picture and an easel, a cool cardinal sticker (I'm a sucker for cardinals for they make me think of my mom), a small print of the districts around Tokyo and a greeting card....love them all and feel unique to me. read more

this place is so great! The other day I went to go get some sunny angels with my brother. They didn't have the series that I wanted because they already sold out. Authentic sunny angels. I got two vegetable series, the trading counter is great. When I got the cabbage, I traded it for the radish, which is one that I really loved. And then I also got the corn which is also a cutie. They also were selling animal series version three and they sell so many more series that are authentic and real. For a collector like me this is the jackpot! Prices were also the same as online so very good! read more

I drove 45 minutes to check out the store. Because I've been to most of the action figure and comic book stores in miami, and they're pretty lame for except one. This store reminded me a lot of ACME in orlando, only difference is they actually negotiate and give you discounts. I was met with a pretty foul stare when I asked the girl at the check outcounter regarding this. I thought the prices were a bit high for some of the nostalgic Star Wars, and I can find cheaper batman statues elsewhere. I like the alien and predator section they have and the G1Transformers. I saw recommendations online that Tate's was the best comic book store in South Florida, so during a visit to the area I made the trek. It is one of the best comics, graphic novels, pop culture, and toy stores I've ever visited -- taking up so much space it has a second floor overlooking the first. Unlike a lot of comics stores that focus only on mainstream comics, Tate's has a broad selection of new and back issues from independent publishers. The upstairs is something I've never seen at a comics shop: a section devoted to art and home decor for geeks of refinement. I left with a Green Lama trade paperback of Mac Raboy art, several recent facsimile editions from Marvel and DC, some new comics and a $10 grab bag containing seven first issues and three other comics. Tate's is a must stop for comic collectors. If you go don't overlook the Tate's gaming shop next door. Take care walking through the parking lot. Several lizards with upward-curling tails are scampering about looking like D&D monsters. read more

As an avid comic book collector I was excited to go to Tates for the first time today. Unfortunately my experience went sour with the two interactions we had with the woman with dark hair that worked in the front of the store. It seemed she was having a really bad day, but no need to be rude to anyone. It's very easy to give the same answer, but say it in a polite way. After our 13 year went to buy a comic book, she skipped another person ahead of him for no reason. At that point we decided that it was time to leave. Such an unfortunate experience, and even worse was that other people mentioned similar feelings. Maybe not the best person to have at the front of the store? Otherwise enjoyed speaking to the man that helped us in the store. A shame we weren't able to purchase what we found. read more

I could easily spend an entire day at this place! Their EVERYTHING selection is amazing. Toys, collectibles, manga, comics, graphic novels... the selection feels endless. I'm not a collector of toys, so while I spent plenty of time looking at all that cool stuff, the majority of my time was spent in the comics section. I collect my comics in hardcover format. I struggle at times with the selection of HC's at my local comic shops. MAN!!! What a selection Tate's has of graphic novels. Walls upon walls of the stuff. Tate's Comics is a huge deal in our tri-county area. I know people from damn near Homestead that will drive up to come to Tate's. They have an enormous amount of comic books, toys, and collectibles of both. They even have the GI Joe's that is boomers grew up with. I bought the Red Incredible Hulk, Thor and Juggernaut action figures of Marvel. This kind of place can definitely bring you back to when you were a kid again. Only way this place can get better is if they had tacos, imagine that! read more

What a great comic store, Tates has many different items to be bought and you can easily spend a lot with the funny items they have. Tates has items such as comedic cook books, action figures (both top shelf and regular priced), and even funny pens and items for the cosplay you may be getting ready to create. Each Wednesday is when new comics come out and at Tates is probably the easiest place I have gone to and was able to find the new comics for the week and previous weeks as well. The far wall is easily set up but name of the comic so you can find them quite easily! The staff is also very friendly and I definitely can't wait for my new comics to come out so I can stop by again! read more

Heaven for Geeks If you are an OG comic fan, this place has everything you could dream of. In terms of price nothing is particularly cheap but it's also within the average price ranges for everything I looked at. They have a lot of series manga, and a decent selection at the front of their manga section for books you might not have read. Also a nice large horror manga section but mainly Junji Ito since he's the biggest horror manga writer. They also sell Gunpla and other figurines and model kits but most of them are Japanese. Next door they have a massive gaming room and they sell D&D books, Board games, dice, and TCGs. They also have the biggest selection of D&D, pathfinder, and more miniatures I have seen in many stores, definitely the best store I have seen which covers so many aspects of Geekdom. Geek Paradise!! The cashiers are also very nice, they have a clientele who seems to be regulars and they always make conversation. Definitely the place to go to if you are a weeb or geek in south Florida! read more

Such a fun place to visit. Brought my anime loving pre teen here and we spent an hour here! Could be here all day. There's such a HUGE variety of pretty much everything here....comics, figurines, movies, books, artwork. EVERYTHING!!! There's also a good variety of Japanese snacks and drinks. My favorite part of Tate's is definitely the upstairs. Amazing artwork and handmade pieces. Best part for the store has to be the enormous sized Hulk. MUST take a picture with it but don't touch! I'm a book lover and even their book selections are great. Random journals and pencils are so cute as well. I would say the only downside is the prices for the plushes. Overpriced! Other than that, I would definitely be a returning customer for other items in the stores not the plushies. read more

I used to love going to this store when in the area, but after today (8/11/2024) I won't bother. I didn't realize they started a bag policy and was understanding and put my bag away in my car. However, upon re-entering the store, there were at least five bags all far larger than my own (ex. large tote bags and a full size backpack vs my small sling bag). The women carrying the large tote bags weren't made to either leave them at the counter or in their car like I was. I didn't appreciate being singled out by the female employee with dark hair while everyone else was treated normally. Don't spend your money here. Nowadays you can find most of the things they sell for cheaper somewhere else. read more

I've been shopping here for what feels like about 30 years. Always had a great experience. Never before have I been told I had would have to leave my laptop sleeve on the counter at the front of the store before or I couldn't shop. Leave a laptop....on the counter...right next to the door.... No thanks. I'll buy my things somewhere else from now on. Not worth risking losing a computer just so I can buy some candies and toys. I'm quite surprised by this new policy quite honestly. I'm also a fifty year old man and not an unaccompanied child. Not sure what kind of trouble they were suddenly expecting from me! Through Yelp, I have met a lot of fabulous people. I mean, the community is vast and spans cities, states, and countries, so it's only natural to make friends. One of the amazing people I met on Yelp is the lovely Amelia M. who I've bonded over with anime and food. Thus, when she texted me one weekend telling me that Tate's had a Japanese snack tasting event, I knew it was a must go. My boyfriend, Edwin P., accompanied me and off we went. We arrived first and the parking lot was packed. We managed to find a space and we were in line for 15 minutes or so. Meanwhile, our friend arrived, and we entered the store, got our tickets for the tasting, and ended up roaming around. I was impressed with how they handled the event. Everyone was given a ticket, and depending on the number received, they would call you in groups of 50. We were somewhere in between group wise, so we had quite some time to kill. Exploring the store that I had had bookmarked for ages, I was taken aback by the realization that I had been at Tate's before. I had thought that this store was possibly the place I had gone with some friends in college, but I wasn't certain until I passed aisle by aisle and it all started to come back to me. Now this been called the mecca of comic book shops in South Florida and I can definitely see why. The store has two floors with the majority of their merchandise being on the first floor. The first floor has comic books, memorabilia, anime, and plenty of collectibles. Oh, and there's a corner as well with Japanese snacks ranging from flavors of Oreos you have never seen to seaweed chips. Don't forget mochi and green tea flavored everything. Heck, I even saw Pusheens. You definitely have something for everyone! The second floor in the meantime is much smaller, consisting of drawings, stuffed animals, and miscellaneous trinkets like aprons, tea strainers, and refrigerator buttons. If you think this is a lot, wait until I tell you that I am not done just yet. The Japanese snack tasting event was held in another room that had board games and card games. Not to mention that there were plenty of tables to sit in. Truly this location is massive, and well, just when I didn't think I could be more surprised, they had a snack sale, and we left paying $12 or so for three bags of different Japanese snacks. Oh, and if you caught me writing this location, one last tidbit to consider: this is main location; there's another one further north. Yes, Tate's Comics is definitely massive. read more

What an amazing comic shop! And when I say comic shop that's a very generic wording, this place sells so so much more than just that! Upon entering, it's as if you're transported to a world of amazing sights! The store has amazing workers who will take the time to help you find something if you ask them! The comics in the back are sorted by name and it is ridiculously easy to find everything you are looking for. They place all the new comics that came out that week against the wall, which are also sorted by name so its easy to find as well. They sell novelty books that will make you laugh as well. The store also sells boxes that you can keep your comics in as well as slip cases and boards so your single comics won't bend while in storage. Prices are very reasonable for the harder to find comics as well! Definitely will be showing up here again! read more

I've been coming here since I was 18. This place has such a dear spot in my heart. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. It is always super clean and organized ( surprisingly for being such a large place !!! ). They always have the latest and greatest comics and indie comics , toys , Christmas stuffers. Tate's (Lauderhill) is the crown jewel mecca of pop culture. You're a fan of something in pop culture or media? Cool! Can't find anything in other stores, and online takes forever? TATE'S GOT YOU 1,000x over. I've been coming here for years and the service and selection hasn't changed a bit-it's still a colossal mountain of geeky goodness. I've been to a lot of comic/hobby stores in my life, and this hands-down is my favorite. The Japanese drink and snack selection when you come in? I can never *not* buy something. I'm also a huge fan of the Bear and Bird Gallery that's upstairs-if you ever wanted a permanent indie art fair in a comic store that adds new and interesting wares all of the time (with some of my favorite artists I might add!) this is for you. The staff is amazing and very helpful. I've never had a less than an amazing and helpful interaction. This place is popular, and they do get busy at the register and getting things out of display cases sometimes BUT I promise that they are all working their butts off to get to everyone in a timely manner. As a former customer service director, I have no complaints. I also brought in my husband (who is deaf) and our well-behaved and harnessed dog (Olive the golden) and when he had questions, the staff went above and beyond to communicate with him respectfully. I appreciate that more than you know, as he's newly deaf and we are both navigating this new world. If you can't find something here that interests you, you probably need a hobby. Heard about this place, was on this side of town for an amazing lunch up the street. Came by here to digest and admire the artworks & comics. Calling out my inner nerd; this place has all types of classic to the latest on the shelf of comic book stories. If you got the $$$ to spend on rare, cool, ridiculous figurines for your personal museum. They got something for you in there. Super cool artwork as well by a variety of artists found along everywhere from your favorite tv shows, movies or comics. Would have to frame it yourself it looked like unless they provide it upon purchase(I didn't get that far). Awesome selection of Japanese candy, chips & chocolates to enjoy. Found some rare stickers by cool artists. Drawing pads, cool note pads etc. Can definitely spend some time goofing off and enjoying what they have to offer. I can't believe after all these years I just drove by and thought, meh-- comic shop--not interested! I missed out. My son wanted to go to the gaming place, so afterwards I checked this place out and I was in heaven. What a cool store!!! Tons of comics, but so much more! All kinds of really neat stuff! Books, art, toys, candy, snacks, and honestly gifts for any person on your list. Like all that stuff you can find at nice boutiques, like the funny little coin purses, bottle openers, candy with funny sayings, you know the kind of stuff you would find at stores like Urban Outfitters, etc.. This used to be one of my favorite places to go to in Florida. I'd bring visitors here and feel great seeing other people who enjoyed comics and novelties. However, after dealing with the rudest staff and not feeling as welcomed as when I used to frequent the store throughout the past 10 years.. I've decided to take my money elsewhere. I'd rather shop online than have to pay for poor service and rude behavior. Just shows the lack of professionalism and social awareness that is plaguing the community these days. If you want to be left at peace while you shop and appreciate kind service, find a store with a better reputation than this place. read more
