This was a nice place to end our day. My mom, who lives in Kelowna full time and goes on her own wine tours non stop, hadnt been to this place yet and we really had a nice time. The guy who helped us, I didn't catch his name, was so friendly and really took his time explaining each one we tried and what their vision for the winery is in the future - my mom challenged him on the taste of one and he even indulged in a sip with us. My mom ended up buying a bottle of the Pinot Noir Cuvée for my dad and we left feeling pretty pleased with the experience. The only reason I didn't rate a 5 was that As we were leaving we saw some people eating on the deck and didn't even know you could get food or hang out so an introduction to the winery/grounds would have helped us buy into the experience a bit more. We'll be leaving back to Edmonton soon but my mom has added this stop to her future informal wine tours with their vacationer guests.

Spierhead winery sucks...in that my damn auto-correct keeps changing the spelling. It's S-P-I-E-R, named after the street the winery is located on. It's at the top end of the road, the head you could say. This is another example of a winery that probably brainstormed a name for their winery for all of one minute and decided on the first thing that popped in their head. Wait, I wasn't saying the winery sucks. Why would anyone say that? Maybe it could be a disappointment if you came here after visiting Camelot Winery and The Vibrant Vine (which we did). However, we were sophisticated enough, cultivated even, to rate wineries individually and judge them on their own terms. And Spierhead is a worthy member of the Fab Five, also sharing space with The View and House of Rose. It has what I believe to be the best view of the lot. It's the less gimmicky of the Fab Five, pushing their wines foremost to customers. I admit we might have skipped this one if it wasn't for the recommendation from Camelot, reinforcing that I am referring to the winery and not the real Camelot (wait...did I just say "real" Camelot?), and that would have been a shame. The wine was good, the location picturesque, and it's a quick hop from other locations. It is by no means the worst of the Five (I'll keep that to myself), and yes, it does play backup to Camelot and Vibrant Vine, but those are two of the best wineries in Kelowna. That's like saying there's a bad entry in the Fast & The Furious Franchise. Sure, there are weaker entries, but they are not all bad...and shut your mouth, Tokyo Drift was awesome. The tasting room is classic with the dominant feature being a row of barrels looming over the view. It also has an incredible picnic area. Full disclosure, we did not pick up any wine on our last trip from them. We had been on a wine tour from Osoyoos to Kelowna, hitting up 60 wineries in a week. Spierhead's offerings were good, but at the time, I just wasn't feeling the urge. The bottles are more expensive than most of the other wineries. But this doesn't mean the location isn't worth visiting. At least do it to get your stamp.

THE BLACK AND WHITE: This was our second to last winery before we called it quits for the night. We came in wanting to try some more okanagan pinot noirs and we got them! They gave us a sparkling pet nat to try as we were walking in which was nice. The pinot noirs here in the classic tasting were alright. One was very light and the other was heavy and leathery. For bonus pours, we tried their late harvest riesling which had that petrol taste profile that I weirdly like. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Great staff and service, however the wines were alright. A tasting was $10 for four pours. Very affordable and would recommend to try at least once.

We dropped in on a Friday evening with 6:30pm reservations. There's a heritage room and a couple small tables outside to do tastings. We did ours in the latter. Service was incredibly friendly and sweet. Tasting fee varies ($10.00 to $20.00) based on four flight options but each includes three pours. We opted for the classic ($10.00). It's also worth mentioning that only $5.00 of the fee goes toward a bottle purchase. - 2017 Organic old vines pinot - a blend that was light in flavour. - 2016 Old vines riesling - 2018 Organic pinot noir - smokey and medium tannin. - 2020 Organic ruby pet nat - we were given a bonus sample. This was actually one of their natural wines we were hoping to try. Turned out to be our favourite. A touch fizzy and notes of blueberry. We debated getting a bottle ($30.00). Decent wines at SV but we enjoyed the organic wines more out in West Kelowna.

Made same day reservations for a weekday tasting (3:15pm); super informative and engaging. Friendly, welcoming vibes with two dogs. Tastings are $10.00/person for 5 pours but waived with a bottle purchase. All their prices ($19.50 to $33.50) include taxes and deposit. - 2022 Bright idea - bubbly on the drier side - 2022 Siegerrebe - rare to find as a single varietal. Good mouth feel with notes of tangerine. We bought a bottle ($19.50) - 2021 Chardonnay - not your typical chardonnay. Light with good minerality - 2022 Pinot noir - a touch acidic with cherry - 2021 The pull - smooth, not too tannic - 2021 Malbec ($32.00) - bought a bottle as don't see malbecs often. Supposed to be medium body with blackberry Great slightly off the beaten path winery.

Parking is weird as you have to park next to the building but there's no dedicated parking spaces. THE BLACK AND WHITE: Driving up, it was weird not having a place to park the car, so we just parked at the side of the building. The dogs are nice and playful around the property. Heading into the winery, we had these cute lil wine glasses and the tastings were 5 pours. There were a few grapes that I didn't recognize like the Siegerrebe, but was actually pretty decent. The pinot noir and bubbly was great. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the damage done for 2 tastings was $20 CAD. Lots of experimentation here and I'm onboard for it.

The Woops wine label is designed upside down, which is really fun, and it tastes great too. Phoenix was full-bodied and tasted really good. I also liked the Gewurztraminer for its well-balanced fruit flavors and sweetness, and the Wolf Song for its buttery taste. We also purchased their original wine glass. This winery is really fun, and I will definitely visit again.
