My time with Spear FiDi has been nothing short of awesome. Following the surgical repair of the rupture of my EHL tendon, which came on the heels of a prior Lisfranc, I started PT with Rich (Richard) Baldwin at Spear FiDi. Rich is AWESOME. Easily one of the kindest, most knowledgeable, professional, patient, caring, and dialed-in physical therapists I have ever encountered. My recovery with, and because of Rich, has been seamless. Rich always was prepared for our sessions together with a variety of exercises to aide in my recovery. He always took the time to fully explain everything- be it the exercise, the way it impacts my recovery, my healing, how to best replicate the work at home, etc. Rich always kept me fully informed and I truly cannot say enough good things about him! He's as top notch as they come and I'm so grateful for his care. He also was my biggest cheerleader and that really just says so much about who he is as a person. He truly cares. And the same goes for every single person I encountered at Spear FiDi. Everyone was always, always, always incredible. That's just the vibe there. Good people who are there to help you on your road to recovery. While I hope I never need them again, I am so comforted to know that such great people are available in times of need. Big thanks to Rich, Eric, and everyone there at Spear FiDi. This crew, and location (which was always pristinely clean and safe) has my HIGHEST recommendation. read more

Spear is a very professional operation. Staff was friendly and welcoming upon my arrival. The facility is well planned out and includes lockers for your belongings while you have a session. My therapist was Grace Chang. I thought she was terrific. She took the time with me to understand my concerns about my need for physical therapy, and set about planning for a course of treatment. She was consistently motivating and positive. I would highly recommend Grace Chang, and Spear. The Broad Street office was especially convenient for me. read more

Spear Physical Therapy - Physical Therapy Near Me - New York, New York

I've been to this Spear location for 3 separate injuries - this time it was for a shoulder injury so I had the pleasure of working with Tori A., OTD, OTR/L. Tori is incredibly professional, knowledgeable and personable. I always looked forward to our sessions together because I knew that I had a personal cheerleader that would safely guide me to recovery. She asks the right questions, listens attentively and provides helpful feedback, and has a positive attitude. Our sessions were always efficient and tailored to what I needed. The space has an upbeat energy and is well equipped for any type of rehabilitation. The location is convenient and it was seamless making appointments, which I greatly appreciated. read more

Really enjoyed working with Claudia Z. She helped me recover from my injury but never pushed me to do anything that wasn't comfortable and adjusted my exercises as needed. She was also friendly and a pleasure to work with. Highly recommend her. read more

They told me over the phone that they took my insurance, but when I got there for the appointment they said they did not -- which meant I couldn't afford it and had to back out. So I wasted a lot of time on their paperwork and delayed starting my PT. Sorry for the 1-star but it's probably the only way to get management's attention. read more

After moving to NYC with a recently healed broken foot, I was searching feverishly for the right physical therapy practice and a PT with a CSCS certification, as requested by my provider. Dan Romeo came to the rescue and was an absolute delight to work with! He devised a perfect plan for my needs and was happy to answer all questions. Everyone PT at Spear have fantastic bedside manner and they are always looking to connect with patients. I can't recommend Spear PT enough- try 30 Broad Street! read more

Do not trust Spear! They said they took my insurance but they didn't. They took a year to bill me, so I only found that out recently. I only went to one appointment since they don't assign clients to specific PTs. Instead you see whoever happens be available. Their customer service people are rude and unprofessional. They billed me for a PT I did not see and again lied and told me that person was in network, when they weren't. AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! read more

I started physical therapy with Caitlin in August 2016. After finishing a half marathon, I had been experiencing some lower back tension. Having recovered from a lower disc herniation in the past, I recognized some of my past pain symptoms, and knew I would need physical therapy. After two months of therapy, my pain unfortunately progressed and an MRI confirmed I had a pretty significant herniation. Caitlin referred me to a great specialist. Following another couple of months of exhausting all treatment options, I met with a surgeon and we determined surgery was a good option. I had a discectomy in January 2017 and the severe pain I had been living with for several months was immediately gone. I felt like a real person again. Following several months of rest, I decided to go back to Caitlin for therapy since she understood my history and we had developed a great rapport. Further, even though the Broad Street location was no longer walking distance from work, I looked forward to getting back and seeing everyone there. I started therapy with Caitlin again in April 2017 and over the course of the past 9 months, she has progressively built my strength and confidence at a comfortable pace. I experienced a couple of debilitating spasms, which were setbacks to my recovery, and Caitlin helped to keep my spirits high and to focus on my goals in a realistic way. She is a great listener and knew when to push me and when to pull back, depending on how I was feeling on any given day. I had my last appointment at Spear last week and although I'm happy that I am physically ready to move on, I am truly sad that I won't get to go in every week to see everyone! It really feels like a family at Spear and I'd sincerely like to thank the entire team at 30 Broad for being a part of my recovery, both physically and emotionally. read more

If you're going to this location, make sure you ask for Christine Lee. I've had chronic back and specifically lower back pain for almost 20 years now. I've had a super long flight, 12 hours, and was filling that my back was going to fail on me soon. I went to PT and by luck, Christine was the one available. After a session with Christine I had my flight, same day, and it was amazing. No back pain, no stiffness, nothing. It was like all my issues have gone away. Of course I needed to get back and continue my treatments and exercises, but after having issues and pain for that long, I can confidently say that Christine is an expert at what she's doing. Highly recommend. read more

I will not go back to Spear. I have done several dozens of PT sessions with them. Some of the therapists are decent, but others couldn't care less (they give instructions for an exercise, and then turn around to watch sports on the TV screen in the exercise room, instead of seeing how I'm doing the exercise). There is also a large turnover, so often dealing with new therapists. Besides this, they messed up the billing and are trying to get me to pay for sessions that they should have gotten from my insurer. One part of the company seems to be aware of this problem and says they're trying to solve it (but again, due to the large turnover, several people have been dealing with this). Another part of the company doesn't seem to be aware of this, and keeps sending me letters that my account would be overdue. read more

Have been coming here for the last 7 months for pre-surgical rehabilitation and then post-surgical rehabilitation for my knees! At my tender age of 32, I recently had surgery on both of my knees and Spear has helped me through it all. They are open until 7pm everyday and they have a wonderful staff of rotating technicians who supervise you through each and every exercise. The DPTs also rotate through on Saturdays every month which makes it easy if for some reason you cant make a session during the week. In particular I love working with Christine. A former collegiate athlete herself, she understands the anxiousness that each athlete goes through as they are waiting to return to sport. She has managed my expectations well and has continued to push me so that I have new tasks to do at each visit and between visits that I know I have to master before I go back to playing. I have also had some sessions with Mark who had kindly filled in when I either cant make my appointment on time or have to reschedule to a day that Christine is not working late. They have a nice range of equipment in a small space but offer a lot and work well in the environment. I'm looking forward to getting back to soccer in a few months and will continue to enjoy my sessions. If you need PT, this is the place. read more

My ankle was sore. Had PT at Spear, and I could not believe the improvement in just one visit. Therapists name was Sarah. Unfortunately, I moved my apartment and so I went to a different PT facility for the second treatment. It was no where near as good in comparison. Go to Spear! They do a great job. read more

Previously, I had visited two different physical therapy practices to treat a mild back injury with very limited success. My Doctor had recommended me to try out SPEARS Physical Therapy in the Financial District. Initially, I was skeptical given my past history with PT's. But I was pleasantly surprised meeting Amir Rand. His professionalism and PT knowledge was 10/10 and a real pleasure to work with. My back is in full form now having been treated by Amir, and I highly recommend anyone to book in an appointment at this practices. All the staff here is great. read more

I didn't have a positive experience at Spears. Never improved, got much worse during my time here. Was treated by a handful of different therapists, all with less than two years of experience, and their trainees. The majority of care I received was from the trainees, who were often distracted by and far more focused on the simultaneous training they were receiving from the therapist rather than on my care. The atmosphere was more of a trendy health club than a physical therapy facility. Loud dance music and dress-up theme days were part of the routine. On those days therapists were running around playing dress-up and posing for photos instead of giving their full attention to the care of their patients. Void of professionalism and incompetent on many levels. I also dealt with strength and conditioning coaches and was given exercises that were well beyond my physical capability, given my injury. I often suggested a modified exercise to them, one that would not give me more pain, and was ignored. I never had reason to believe they understood the distinction between a person seeking to rehabilitate an injury and an otherwise healthy person seeking the benefits of a personal strength and conditioning coach. I eventually accepted that I was not going to heal at this facility and found a new physical therapy facility that understood the distinction. Do not go here. read more

In February of this year, I picked up a piece of paper at work and later that day I couldn't tie my shoes or walk. This occurrence was not new. I had been regularly going to the ER for the past 10 years every time my back "acted up". Sadly, since I am younger than 30 years old and surgery was not something I wanted or the doctors agreed with, I reluctantly convinced myself that the pain I felt DAILY was just a part of my life. The difference this time around is that I received (yet another) referral for physical therapy, but landed in the steady hands of Nicole Savarese and the folks at SPEAR. I felt so defeated hobbling into the building the first time. I didn't know what to expect. Was this doctor going to be just like rest and treat me like another cog in a quota wheel? Would I even feel better after spending all the money on co-pay after co-pay each week? Well, after 50 sessions I finally have some answers, and they all point to Nicole and the fantastic staff at SPEAR. The office feels like you're walking into a low-key gym at a quiet college dorm. The music changes daily, the equipment is clean, and it's never so crowded that you can't move around. The staff learns every single patient's name! It's like you become a regular at your favorite coffee spot, except they learn what exercises you enjoy and which ones you need a little more motivation to complete. Nicole specifically is a shining example of professionalism, competence, and responsiveness. She is somehow able to attend to all her patients while simultaneously answering questions, scheduling appointments, and appearing to be in many places at once. I am so grateful for continued support in my journey to heal myself. Nicole educated me on my muscles and nerves, explained what movements to avoid, and what movements to focus on to build up strength. After all these months, not only can I tie my shoes again without fear of bending over and hurting myself, but I can also do pilates, spinning, and dance classes again. Nicole gave me my life back. I will utilize the tools and knowledge she provided for the rest of my life. read more

Whatever this magical place is, you should be getting in on it. Now, I say this knowing fully well that I am being completely hypocritical because, you see, I don't want you to know about this place. I don't. I feel as if this place now belongs to me and everyone at Spear is now my new best friend and I certainly don't want you raining on my parade. However, since they have earned this 5 star review, I will let them have it. Especially now that my time at Spear is over and it will soon, sadly, all be a distant memory. If you've been reading my reviews, you already know that I get inappropriately personal in my review details so here is what you've all been waiting for (or probably not): my story. One day, I was just sitting on my couch, minding my own business and I started feeling shooting pain up my left arm. It then spread to my chest. Yes, y'all, I legit thought I was having a heart attack. I was rushed to the ER and low and behold I have...costochondritis. What is costochondritis, you ask? It's an annoying, painful condition that mimics heart attack pain sometimes but is actually just a generally painful, annoying inflammation of the cartilage between the ribs in your chestal area (not sure that chestal is a word but also I don't care). So basically, it sucks, but it's nothing dangerous so I try to limit the amount of complaining I do. After some doctors were like, "we don't know what the heck to do about this," I finally saw a rheumatologist who recommended physical therapy. She was awesome, and she was right. Enter Spear. Spear at 30 Broad is a quick walk from my apartment, so it was easy to find. I contacted them for an appointment and they got back to me right away. I was not at all looking forward to this. I walked in and saw all these beautiful, thin physical therapists walking around everywhere and I was like...no. I'm just a regular person and everyone here is going to judge me and I hate my life and I'm leaving. But my hesitation quickly dissipated when the front desk staff warmly greeted me and everyone shared a smile as they passed. OK, I thought, maybe this place won't be so bad. Marc was my physical therapist. I say "was" with a tear in my eye because there is now a hole in my heart where Marc used to be and I already miss him 5 seconds after I just saw him yesterday (cue tiny violin). Marc really took the time to get to know what was wrong with me, how it was affecting my life and by the second session, he was showing me books and pictures and describing exactly what was going on and how we are going to make it better. And that's exactly what we did. We built up the strength in my upper body so that I was not only able to function better, I was also in a lot less pain. He made me feel like he truly cared about my condition and having me get better which I am sure all of his patients feel but I felt extra special so don't take that feeling away from me, just let me have it. He is brilliant and even gave me the confidence to try out their pelvicore class to help to transition from PT to normal-people exercise and it all went extremely well. The pelvicore class is taught by Jessie, another awesome PT at Spear. Everyone at Spear is fantastic. Chastity at the front desk is always so kind and impossibly beautiful and the assistants are incredibly friendly and helpful--shout out to Merin, Jasmine, Jeremy and Karina who kept me in check with all my exercises, dealt with my stubborn self and made coming to Spear something I looked forward to every session. This place is perfection. If I could give them 100 stars, I would. If you want to go to a PT place where you know you'll be in good hands, this is the one. The experience was truly inSPEARing (that was supposed to sound like inspiring but didn't really work). A huge THANK YOU to everyone who was a part of my experience (and if I didn't mention you by name, I'm so sorry! But 5 stars goes to everyone, with love). read more

I was referred to SPEAR by my sports doctor. I have some knee issues from all the stairs in the subways I think. Anyway, Josh R was my therapist. We hit it off right away. He is very professional but also very personable. Any questions I had related to (or not) my injuries he was willing to answer. He knows I have to sustain his training now that I have graduated. He made sure I understood what to do on my own. All the staff were very helpful and able to guide me in my therapies. I felt encouraged by all the staff. I felt so much better when I left. The facilities were always clean. The equipment was working and clean. All the clients seemed to appreciate the staff while I was there. If I have further physical therapy needs I will come back here. And if anyone I know needs these services I will recommend Josh and the Team at SPEAR. I can't thank them enough!! read more

Natalia and all of the staff at SPEAR were extremely helpful in not only helping me deal with leg pain, but getting me in condition to return to the myriad of physical activities in which I participate. Through focused trial and error, Natalia was able to identify the root of my recurring leg troubles (hip cartilage issues that resulted in calf strains and chronic posture problems) and use exercises to fix the issue at the source. Throughout the process, Natalia and her excellent colleagues were informative, motivating and extremely pleasant! In every instance - from billing to stretching to getting extra leg bands when one broke - it was clear that SPEAR's staff prioritizes the client's recovery over all else. read more

I find myself looking forward to going to Physical Therapy at Spear. I was having lower back pain which was traveling down my leg causing leg numbness and difficulty walking. Eventually, I was diagnosed with a herniated disc. After a month, the leg numbness has decreased significantly and I have gained a lot of strength back with my limp gone! I have been working primarily with David Block who is extremely knowledgeable and supportive. Whenever I get discouraged, he helps motivate me throughout the session and keeps me motivated to continue the treatment regiment at home. I have been excited about my progress and look forward to continue to gain strength. The whole team including the receptionist, assistants and physical therapists create a great and friendly environment. Can't wait to go next week! read more

They'll spend a long time on the phone with you convincing you to set up an appointment telling you they accept your insurance and waste a lot of your time. When you arrive you'll find out they're out of network and it will be a completely humiliating experience. They won't be able to explain your benefits to you or explain how the "mix up" happened. Top notch PT! I saw Nicole Savarese for about 8-weeks for a pulled hamstring & leg issues that are now resolved. Nicole was excellent to work with all around! She not only treated my leg but explained everything along the way & gave great instructions for exercises & care at home going forward. The whole staff at SPEAR was fabulous--techs, DPTs, and front desk staff--everyone works as a team. Super positive & motivating vibe about the place in general. I highly recommend SPEAR & Nicole Savarese if anyone need solid PT care and support. 100% satisfied client! read more

I've been seeing Natalia Frainsworth for almost three months at the Wall Street Location of SPEAR. Natalia and the entire staff, from the reception desk to the PT assistant have been very warm and welcoming. Natalia has done lots of research to ensure that I am receiving the best care possible - even consulting colleagues and researching online for the best brace for me. I went from having a pretty sedentary lifestyle to being able to swim laps and go to the gym. Natalia pushes me, but is always aware when I get fatigued or am experiencing pain. It is important to note that I have never waited to be seen at SPEAR. Scheduling appointments is easy, and I have been able to schedule several appointments in advance. I would highly recommend SPEAR physical therapy to anyone who has either experienced an acute injury or has a chronic condition that limits their mobility. Being treated at SPEAR has positively impacted my daily life. read more

I was prescribed 8 weeks here for a pinched nerve, I've got to say, they know what they are doing. The service here is top notch, their therapists and assistants are top notch. Christine Lee is awesome! I initially came to this location due to its proximity to my job and the fact that they were in-network with my insurance. I fell and separated my shoulder in early January. I've been to many PT places before, but this one was different - in a good way! Everyone - from the front desk staff, to the massage therapists, to the physical therapists and assistants - was very friendly and helpful. Christine was my physical therapist and she was so great! Attentive, helpful, answered questions, genuinely caring. I absolutely recommend this location, and Christine Lee as your physical therapist. read more

I started my PT at Spear after elbow and wrist surgery and I could not be happier with my experience there so far. From the moment I called to make my first appointment, Amy at the front desk has been a true pleasure. She is on top of her game and goes the extra mile to make everyone else's life easier. I wish everyone I dealt with on a regular basis was as competent and cheery as she is! My physical progress is all thanks to Amir and his expertise. It seems he has found his calling helping people. He takes the time to explain things about how the body works and truly takes an interest in his patients. (He has also been on point with several restaurant recommendations because he knows New York inside and out!) Its also important to note that the space is new and immaculate. They ensure that hygiene and cleanliness are attended to and are just an all around professional group. I will recommend them to my friends... whether they are injured or not... read more

It was a great experience. The 30 Broad St facility is brand new, very clean and spacious, has a comfortable changing area, lockers, and a private shower. Natalia and DeAnna took great care of me, helped me through my exercises and always kept me motivated and upbeat with their positive personalities. I was sent to Spear to work on my lower back issues. Natalia evaluated the issues and developed a program of stretching, massage, and exercise to get me back in running shape. She built up the exercise program slowly so I was not overwhelmed with a bunch of new exercises all at once, and could build up strength and balance as we added new ones. Scheduling was easy and the email reminders helpful. Amy at the front desk was wonderful for keeping me on schedule. I totally recommend them. read more

Spear Physical Therapy is a 'Best in Class' healthcare provider. I had issues with my hip and quad, which were resolved very quickly with their expert care. David Block assessed the issue, and gave a detailed explanation of my issues, so that I could understand. I have been through physical therapy before, and I can say with confidence that SPEAR has a superior approach to patient care. read more

It has been a great experience with SPEAR from the very start. They were transparent with their billing and their staff was informative of how to fill out all the documentation. I've been working with Dave Block for a couple of months now and he has been my shining light on the road to recovery. He has been able to pin point the root cause of the issues I have and treat with a combination of manipulation and work out. It is a pleasure to work with David for many reasons. David was flexible and accommodating to my schedule. I actually followed David to this new facility from the 56th street location because he's just that great!!! I love this new facility. High ceilings, bright lights and able to do your exercises without bumping into someone else. Lots of bathrooms and I don't have to bring my own lock to store my things. This is as good as it gets! read more

I (barely) walked into Spear about 6 weeks ago with pain associated with back issues. It was pain that I had "dealt with" for several months. But really, I was not equipped to "deal with it". However, the folks at Spear at 30 Broad were. 6 weeks later, the pain is gone. My issue was assessed and I was put through an assortment of exercises that were honed over the course of the treatment to help, always help. Most importantly, Amir and the crew at this location create a really constructive environment for PT. You get the sense that everyone is looking out for you- that all of them actually care. It makes an early morning PT session something to look forward to. It's almost fun. No kidding. Bottom line is, if you have any sort of pain to get over, or recovery to go through, do it with these guys. Can't recommend them enough. read more

I was very happy with my recovery process at Spear. I dealt with an injury for over 6 months without getting proper help and felt very confident from day 1 that I was in the right hands. I went to SPEAR for pre-op sessions in preparation for ACL reconstruction. From the first call on the phone Amir was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. In spite of his busy schedule, he made time to work with me and/or supervise closely the work I was doing with other therapists (Denise and Deanne, both amazing and very present in what they do!). He also helped me with a follow up question on the phone. I am very impressed with the professional yet down to earth environment of SPEAR. Everybody seemed to be top notch in their roles, including the front desk ladies. Having done pre-op work has made a difference in my recovery. I'm off meds since day 2 and look forward to starting the post-op rehab. Totally recommend it! You'll be in the best hands possible. read more

I received a massage at Spear as a gift, what a gift it was! I've had massages before but nothing like this. Sandra is amazing! She is very skilled. When I expressed how amazing it was to the Director, I was told it is a medical massage. I live in Rochester and will not hesitate to make an appointment when I visit. I highly recommend Sandra at Spear. read more

As far as PT is concerned, the place is not better or worse than others I have been to before. But boy, did they bill my insurance company INSANE amounts! They usually bill about $500 for a 50-minute session. Which is already incredibly high, especially since nothing special was being done. But on one occasion, the billed the insurance company over $600 for a (barely) 50-minute session. That is TWELVE dollars per minute!! Why, tell me? Why? Anyway, they may be good, but I am completely turned off by the HUGE amounts they bill. I only pay a copay and the insurance company pays under $100 per session. But I still decided not to go there anymore because of the above reason. read more
