I was assured that he'd know basic commands after the first two weeks. He likes to chase cars, and they said that they'd need to work with a shock collar to discourage that behavior, which is awful given that shock collars are heavily discouraged for non-problematic dogs and are outlawed in some countries. I still enrolled him in a 2-week course for basic commands, because I was a first time dog owner who wasn't aware of how to train dogs. Lara's canine solutions used a prong collar on a puppy who already was happy to follow directions and didn't have behavioral problems. She reassured me that prong collars would be okay becuase it doesn't hurt when she put it around my arm. However, after the training, I put the collar around my neck as a test to see how my dog would feel, and was shocked at how much it hurt my throat. While my dog was there, he developed aggression problems and anxiety, and developed problems of barking aggressively. Worst of all, after the two weeks, he didn't know any of the commands. I asked him to sit, and he didn't know what it was. He only did "guess work" out of fear when I tugged on the leash with the prong collar which was what the owner recommended. I had to train him all over again at Petco because he didn't know basic commands, and Petco did a much better job and raised his confidence back up. If I'd do it again, I'd find a center that encourages positive behavioral training rather than engaging in negative training with prong collars and shock collars. The program is far more comprehensive than other snake avoidance training. Some classes only provide a brief negative reinforcement exposure to snakes which may not be sufficient training. Utilizing both negative and positive reinforcement, Kris' program teaches dogs not only that snakes are dangerous, but how they should respond when encountered. The expert snake handler provided critical knowledge for dog owners which added to the comprehensive nature of this course. We are planning to reinforce our dog's training with yearly snake training at Canine Moxy and continue other training with Kris. I've been attending puppy kindergarten with my four-month Labradoodle, Dahboo, for the past six…read moreweeks. I was hoping it would be a positive experience for him to socialize with other dogs, I didn't expect to have as much fun as I have going with him though. The class format is 15 minutes off-leash play interspersed with 5-10 minute guided on-leash sessions. You focus on one command each class with the idea being that you learn the basics of teaching the command and finish the training on your own at home. I like that the focus is on practical commands and not silly tricks (not against teaching those, just figure you can teach those on your own time). Our instructor, Bridget, has been great. I can imagine it's tough working a room with as many as a dozen or so pups running around, but she always took time to give everyone individual attention and make herself available for questions and practical answers. It's also a great way to meet other people. I'd often look forward to seeing some of the pup parents as much as their pups each week. Overall, it's a great environment for everyone and as an added bonus we attended the class held at Austin Corner Vet East, which is fantastic since that's also our vet. Dahboo's now excited to pull into the parking lot of his vet -- mission accomplished! :) We've enjoyed the class so much we'll be continuing on with the next class in the sequence and look forward to more fun working with Karma Dog Training as Dahboo works toward his therapy certification.

As a first-time puppy parent, I was somewhat unsure of what to expect with a new puppy, and the trainers provided excellent coaching and advice throughout our 7-week class. During the first class, Dexter was so nervous that he was finding every corner possible to hide in. The trainers coached us on the best ways to encourage Dexter to socialize and by the third week of class, he was eager and excited to play with all the other puppies. The socialization aspect of class was exactly what our shy puppy needed to come out of his shell. In addition to that, the training portion of the class was very helpful. Each class focused on one of the seven basic commands that puppies need to learn, and Darci provided very clear explanations of how to teach and reinforce each command. Then, we were able to practice and get feedback from Darci and the other trainers in order to help Dexter master each command. Finally, Karma Dog Training provides excellent customer service. Any time I have reached out with a question or scheduling conflict, they have responded within hours with a helpful and understanding response. I found Kenny through Yelp and emailed him a few questions. He was very prompt and thorough with his responses and we set up a meet-and-greet for the following week. He runs his business out of his home, and he has customized his whole house, yard and garage for dog training. It's quite impressive! Kenny has a matter-of-fact way of saying things which I truly respect. He not only helped us with the dog behavior issues that we were having, but also helped me to realize that some of our issues were brought on by our own behaviors! It helped us to change our own way of thinking about certain things (for the better). Kenny's training for dogs relies heavily on owner participation. Meaning, you don't drop your dog off to Kenny to be magically trained. You, the dog owner, attend the sessions with your dog and then PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE the new command with your dog all week, sometimes even for two weeks before the next session. It is required discipline for the owner and all family members and is a time commitment. After completing Kenny's training sessions, our dog now walks very nicely on a leash, sits when asked, goes to her "place", stays out of the kitchen when we are preparing food, and does not jump on the couch or up on us anymore.
