This is my first time ever thinking about adopting. I've read the reviews on Facebook and thought…read moreto myself this would be a good place to adopt. The website states it's by appointment only. I made the appointment and also filled out the application over a week ago. I attempted to do a follow-up email, but I have yet to get a response. It didn't make sense to me because they have been making Facebook posts everyday and putting up new stories on their account. I decided to go to them directly, which was a really odd experience. As I walked in, nobody was at the front. 3 elderly women popped their head out then one of them finally approached me. I told her my intentions to adopt and the first thing she says is, "we've denied so many applications". She asked if I filled out an application and I told her yes. She then proceeds to tell me the person who looks at applications hasn't been in. I'm thinking to myself, "for over a week???" I left her my information and that was the end of it. If that's the case, did mine get denied? Is this why it's taking so long to respond? Do they give reason for denial or at least send a courtesy email? Either way, it felt entirely too long to get a response. It didn't feel welcoming either. Judging by their unprofessional attitude and demeanor I believe they are just selfish and completely lazy. I'd give it no stars is that was possible. They need new management ASAP.

I have no idea how I haven't reviewed NACC yet, so in honor of our dawg's Gotcha Day coming up,…read morehere I am! The staff and volunteers absolutely do a fantastic job here, and the animals receive attention and love while they wait for their forever home. I followed them on Facebook for a while, watching longingly as adorable photo/bio combinations popped up in my feed, sometimes showing the Husband pups who were particularly sweet-sounding. It's all about breaking the resistance down slowly over time. Drip effect, folks. They've been indoctrinated without even realizing it and suddenly the whole family is in the car on their way to see a sweet Husky girl. Who of course is already adopted when you get there. And of course your son falls in love with a handsome pit bull who OF COURSE you take home instead. This is the cheapest animal I've ever adopted, and he came neutered, microchipped, tagged, vaccinated, and checked for food and toy aggression. Moreover, he's been the best friend for our son for a year now. Maybe they could have warned us that he's a bed hog, though!

PLEASE LISTEN TO THE OTHER 1 STAR REVIEW. I had the same experience…read more I went to this shelter earlier this week and fell in love with a beautiful cat. I was told I was the third applicant and that I would be contacted if the first 2 applicants were no longer interested. I received an email that the cat was available and asked me if I was still interested. I sent 4 emails and left 1 voice message the same day. 2 days later I sent a fifth email and received a short reply that the cat was given to someone else. Should you apply for a cat or dog, sure, but expect the shelter to play some games with you. I was a longtime foster with NACC and have donated for years. I'll be taking my business elsewhere since they can't be decent enough to respect my time.

Over the last year, I or me and my family, have gone into the AWLA a few times in search of a dog…read moreor cat; whichever fits our lifestyle the best and normally we go to the "cat room" and visit with the cats and then am taken back by volunteers to meet whatever dogs are available. Normally the 2 volunteers that take me back are not chatty with me (but are with each other) and neither really seem interested in helping me - I believe Diane and Mattes. Nice enough people but they just seemed a bit annoyed or bored or both, seemingly every time we were there. That all changed the last time I was in, which was a few weeks ago and had 2 different people help me. They were volunteers Valerie and Lisa (purple hair). They both seemed excited to show me the dogs (and Valerie had helped me in the cat room - although there were only 2 cats and one was adopted!). Those two ladies were funny, cheerful and and answered all of our questions. Ended up not adopting but they said that was OK - I could come as many times as I wanted until I found the right dog (or cat).

Great experience fostering a cat with them so far! They gave us everything we needed for 2 weeks…read moreand very responsive and supportive. I feel like they try to get to know each animal and support folks who are fostering as much as possible. I can't speak to the adoption side, but they seem very accommodating to that as well, trying to find the best fit and take time to understand the behavioral info that I shared with them. For fostering, it is our call if we want to meet potential adopters at the shelter and elsewhere - this can be a little confusing but I think it's better to have those in-depth conversations with those who have spent more all-day/all-night one-on-one time in advance of meeting of creatures.
