When I came up to pay, I realized that it was on a metal tray. I apologized and told him I needed it to go. "That would have been great to know before" the proprietor said coldly. He said let me ring these people out and I'll put it in a bag. Having already paid, I stood there feeling wretched, looked at the young couple at the register and said "lunch is on me" gave them the tray, and left the shop in tears. Plus, I always love mixing old and new items in my home decor because it just feels more personal and layered for me. That's where Isabella's Treasures in New Paltz came in around late Fall '24. I wanted my tree dressed in time for Thanksgiving dinner. Yes, I'm that person who puts up the tree at least the day before and lights it during dessert time to kick off the holiday season. To my surprise, Isabella's had exactly what I was looking for: vintage ornaments in the perfect colors- each one unique, full of soul, and priced reasonably in the $4 to $8 range. Totally worth it for pieces I won't find anywhere else. The shop itself is a cozy treasure trove, filled with everything from jewelry, textiles, to jewelry boxes- both new and vintage. There's also an attached room with vintage board games and clothing (though I'm not sure if that's part of Isabella's Treasures or a neighboring vendor). Isabella herself is a doll- super helpful, warm, and even gave me some background stories on the ornaments I purchased.
