We're confident they've done more than their due-diligence to make sure we're not paying any more taxes than we need to be. While the X-Tax Lansing facilities and locations may not be the best or most convenient for everyone, their web-based system is top-notch. 5 years ago we moved out of Lansing and we learned the hard way that we should've stayed with X-Tax for our returns. We began using another service (much closer to our home) for a couple years and it cost more money and resulted in an error on their part that got us audited. (Not to mention they found far fewer allowable deductions the year we weren't audited.) Even when we got audited, this other firm barely seemed to care. We learned our lesson and had X-Tax do our amendment and got our incorrectly-audited money refunded. (FWIW, this other Accounting firm has much nicer facilities but their attention-to-detail and accountability were terrible compared to our experiences with X-Tax.) The last few years we've done our return remotely via the X-Tax web portal by uploading our tax documents and responding to requests for clarifications/info via their system. Between the text notifications and email messages, I can't imagine them being any more timely or efficient than they already are. I find them to be very affordable, professional, and well-organized. The phone was answered by a live person, not a machine. My appointment was on time and I was not kept waiting. The office was clean and parking was right at the door. Having two state and two federal returns prepared in one sitting was a little costly but mine are complicated and I wanted them done correctly. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I received refunds from both state and federal. Honestly, I expected to have to pay. Electronic filing was fast and easy, and I received my refunds in about one week. Recently I had to phone Simplified because I could not locate my daughter's return and needed it to complete her FASFA application. I phoned and was told that yes, I certainly could get that document. If I were to pick it up in person, it would cost $10. But Paula told me that she could email it to me for free. This is the first year we've had an issue with liberty on clippert in Lansing. They also didn't ask about my education fees and all around just made us Leary of she was doing it right. When we called to get our tax packet they say they can't release it until the taxes are released. Wtf. Next year we will either file ourselves or go to H and R Block.
