I'd give negative stars if I could. After a month of trying to get a response from the manager of the Park City location, I have decided to post a review of the situation. For the past year we have been using Sparkling for dry cleaning/laundry of our bed linens. Generally, their service was acceptable although they improperly washed 2 expensive comforters (Boll & Branch, less than 6 months old) resulting in them being lumpy and hard. Nonetheless, everything else seemed to be handled appropriately until the recent situation which started a little over 4 weeks ago.
We dropped off linens as usual and picked them up the following Friday. We invest in quality linens and are careful in how they are cared for. When I got home, I followed my usual practice of taking the linens off the hangers to put on the shelves where they are stored. When I took the white duvet cover off the hanger, I noticed brown splotches on the interior of the fold. I opened it up to find that it had brown splotches all over, almost like someone had dropped a cup of coffee that had splashed over it. It should be noted that when I dropped it off, it was pristine. It had no stains, no discolorations, no marks whatsoever. I immediately drove back to the store and asked to speak with the manager. (Note: the manager oversees 5 stores and is never there). Ended up speaking with a kid behind the counter who told me its his first day. This seems to be an ongoing theme, anytime there is a problem the person behind the counter claims to be new or to not know anything, can't give information or any answers. I laid the duvet cover out on the floor and showed him all the spots. I told him these were not there when we had dropped it off a week ago. I told him I would give them the chance to fix it, but if they could not remove the stains I expected it to be replaced. That was approximately March 8th. I was told the manager would call me and that the duvet cover would be ready the following Wednesday.
My husband went the following Wednesday to pick it up and was told it wasn't ready. I had not yet received a call from the manager. The next day, 3/14, I called the store and was provided the manager's cell #. I called and left a message and she did return my call shortly thereafter. However, she was not helpful and insisted that they had to send the duvet cover to someplace in Salt Lake City to "figure out if it was dry cleaning fluid" that caused the stains. As I explained to her, I didn't care what the fluid was, there were no stains when we dropped it off, so someone at their factory or their store caused the stains, whether it was cleaning fluid or someone spilled coffee, I didn't care because it is there responsibility. It should be noted that the duvet cover is supposed to be laundered and pressed, not dry cleaned... the label is pretty clear and I have pointed out to them many times that they needed to read and follow instructions on labels - that's how they ruined the 2 comforters!
It is now March 30th and I have not heard back. They still have our duvet cover, I've had no follow up, and no one is taking responsibility for the fact they have ruined a duvet cover that was in pristine condition when it was dropped off to them. Despite rumors that dry cleaners can never be held reasonable, they are required to take reasonable care of items they receive. Returning a pristine, white duvet cover with brown splotches is not by any stretch of the imagination "reasonable care".
I called yesterday and left another message for the manager. Again, the person answering acts like they are entirely clueless and the manager is never there, so its impossible to actually go in person to speak to someone. Next steps will be to contact the BBB, Utah Dept of Consumer Protection, and exploring options for small claims case. read more
