Spare Time is the local bowling alley with a bar and restaurant, I don't bow, so this review only pertains to the restaurant. I've eaten lunch here a few times and I really don't have any problems with the food. I've had their pizza before and I was impressed. Good ingredients and a quality thin crust. On my most recent visit I had a ham and swiss panini with fries. The taste of the panini was fine but I thought there could have been more ham. The fries were very good. Just enough crispiness and mildly seasoned. Unfortunately the thing I remember most from each visit is sub-par service. My server was very nice but didn't know what beers they had on tap. When I was done eating I waited at least five minutes to get the bill and this was the first time I'd been approached since my food was delivered. In her defense, she was probably new and over-worked. She was the only one I saw doing anything. The prices were standard. The food is good but not great. My overall impression is that it's adequate. read more

This attraction has been a staple of Owatonna for many years now. The bowling experience is exceptional. Arcade and laser tag is a blast, but be ready to drop some serious cash. The food is quite good. You can tell they are understaffed but I would say the experience is worth a chance. Go with a large group of friends! read more

Went here on a whim on a Monday night and we were seated immediately. There was no one bowling and maybe 4 other tables, we were asked what we wanted to drink and ordered our drinks immediately. After sitting there for 20 minutes we had no drinks and not one single person had come back to us after walking past our table 4+ times. We ended up leaving and going elsewhere - do not recommend wasting your time here. read more

Spare Time is one of my new favorite hangout spots in this little town. We got drinks, ate decent food, and bowled. Favorite part was the great hospitality from our server in the bar area. Least favorite was the bowling shoes. They could probably use some new shoes. Next time I go, maybe I'd like to play laser tag or explore the arcade games. The best thing about the place is the Steak salad! Rude staff not very attentive, actually watch my salad sit in window for over 5 mins before brought to me. Staff like disappears? and if your going to bowl and play games and laser tag be ready to drop at least $100.00 and that will not include food! The cook is rude and a know it all! Find yourself in southern Minnesota and needing a place to bowl? Spare Time lanes has you covered. We wanted to try something different at Christmas time so we rented some lanes and the whole family went bowling. We had a great time. This place has all the bells and whistles you expect at your modern bowl-a-rama; bumper lanes for the kids, electronic scoring, you can even take your picture and put your face on the TV screens. The bar was what I expected for southern Minnesota; mostly a collection of lite macro brews mixed with a couple macro brews masquerading as craft beer. We didn't try the food but the kitchen looked like a collection of microwaves and frozen pizza ovens; I wouldn't expect much. My son loved the arcade, so we played a round of bowling and hit up some games. We had a fun time, we might even go back next Christmas. read more

After working at spare time Entertainment for 2 years, I can say that the business is absolutely ridiculous. I worked behind the welcome desk. On my first day, no one had trained me leaving me to learn the pos all by myself. After that I had also had no training on how to fix the pinsetters as well as not have a mechanic on call to come in and fix a machine. Up until this June students were asked to stay past 11:00 pm on school days breaking child labor laws as well as not having enough staff for employees to take breaks even when the state mandated it. Prices for bowling and most of the food alike are overpriced. New employees have no training most of the time, hours are now just getting fixed and prices are ridiculously overpriced. I am glad not to be working there anymore. If you live in owatonna and want to go here, don't be surprised if service is not great on the bowling side. Most of the employees were never trained properly, and have to basically improvise based off every situation. To anyone out of town, don't go here. You will save more money going to another bowling alley or restaurant somewhere else. read more

Clearly understaffed. Had a reservation, still had to wait to get our lanes. Kid behind the counter had no idea what was going on. Had to ask several times to get our lanes, finally someone was able to get it figured out. We started bowling and our lane had to be reset several times, very frustrating! Unfortunately a poor experience. I took my family there on a Sunday afternoon for their advertised cosmic bowling on Sunday afternoon. After asking three times about the cosmic bowling and being told three times it was going to come on, it didn't in the two hours we were there. If you are not going to deliver a service, don't offer it. When we arrived and asked for shoes, they did not have any shoes available in my family sizes, a 11, 8, 8, and 6 and their was only two other families bowling. So my family all bowled in shoes that didn't fit. How do you accommodate big crowds on Friday and Saturday nights? Then to top it all off, their "acclaimed" chef is in their open kitchen eating while he is preparing food, just doesn't seem right. Then my daughter goes up to ask for some napkins and this same "Chef" literally throws napkins towards her. Completely rude. Unfortunately this is not our first experience with extremely poor customer service here and unfortunately any further bowling trips will involve supporting a bowling alley outside of Owatonna. read more

I was just at Spare Time on Sunday evening (1/25/15). We sat in the bar to begin with, had a few drinks, then went out to bowl and left our tab open. During our time in the bar, there was a young woman sitting at the bar who had a physical disability, obviously caused by a birth defect. She had very short arms and I'm sure has had many hurdles to get over throughout her life. She seemed to be having a nice time with a young guy who accompanied her. The bartender was great. He brought our drinks out to the high top we sat at, and was very friendly and courteous. So imagine how APPALLED I was when we went back to the bar after our bowling game to settle the tab and he was LOUDLY talking to other customers about how CREEPY and WEIRD that poor girl was. He was speaking to customers who were sitting at the bar where the young woman was previously. Completely inappropriate and uncalled for! She ran her fingers though her hair...That's creepy?? Every other girl does it, but she's not allowed to because she's different!? As if she CHOSE to have abnormal arms?! He showed absolutely zero compassion and he should be ASHAMED of himself. I have family in Owatonna and visit often. That will be our very last trip to Spare Time because of what I witnessed. I truly regret not snatching the tip money back and then publicly humiliating HIM for being such a jack ass. I don't recall his name, but he has curly, dark hair, a little on the longer side. He should be reprimanded and advised how lucky he is to have two "normal" arms and be thankful that he doesn't have to be judged and talked badly about by someone who he just TIPPED for their service. read more

Worst place ever! To start off, we ordered food. The kid working was clueless. I ordered a California burger and cheese curds! And the kids ordered cheeseburgers and fries, the wife a wrap if some sort. I paid the clerk and went back to my table. Thought it was a little speedy but didn't question it. Food arrives, there was a skimpy side of cheese curds along with my burger and fries, so obviously it wasn't subbed for fries like intended and ordered. Then we end up with an extra cheeseburger and fries we did not order. The kid just gave us a dumb look and didn't offer to take it back and refund us. Luckily someone took it at our table and bought me a beer for trade. The French fries were the worst I've ever had. I walked up to the counter for some mayo and the cook was very rude and directed me to a waitress... then some other kid dropped off a bunch of food at our bowling area that wasn't ours. We were busy bowling and didn't pay much attention to it. Finally my wife said something to them and they delivered it to the right table without warning it back up!
