This venue was recommended by local folks and my hotel concierge, and I did enjoy my dining…read moreexperience. The ambiance is sophisticated and clean. You can get individual dishes or go with course menu (either regular or vegetarian). My server was great - knew the dishes very well, and was also friendly. While I am not vegetarian, I noticed white asparagus dish on the individual items - the server was kind enough to adjust vegetarian course menu so that I could get plenty of asparagus consumption! I enjoyed everything - loved the freshness and natural flavor. All staff members that I encountered were polite and friendly. I will be back when I visit Vienna again.

Because we were a large group, we were able to share all the appetizers and all the desserts. I highly recommend doing this, by the way. For the appetizers, my absolute favorite was a salad of Michi Bauer's butter lettuce, strawberries, crispy bread, and elderflower -- it had the most amazing dressing. I liked it so much that I ordered a second one for the table. The oxtail croquette with lovage, radish, and daikon was an honorable mention -- it had a nice contrast of soft oxtail meat on the inside and crispy fried panko bread crumbs on the outside. The remaining appetizers (kohlrabi, heifer tartare, smoked eel in aspic) were all great as well. We even asked for the wild herbs soup with brown bread cream, radish, and watercress to be split. Yes, they can split a soup! That was a great soup. For the entree, I picked the sturgeon fillet with brandade fritters, beurre blanc, orange, and fennel. It was not bad. Several of my friends liked their veal schnitzel a lot. For dessert, because we shared everything, we got to try all three desserts from the menu. My absolute favorite was the elderberry foam -- it had a nice, light tang which was perfect for a summer evening. The chocolate cake with Michi Bauer strawberries was a close second -- very rich and decadent. I did not care for their caramelized rice pudding much. I was surprised they had Tanquary 0.0%, so got their Gin & Juice. The mixture with Gruber Röschitz grape juice and lemon was super refreshing. Labstelle's motto is "Slow down and enjoy slow food," which was exactly what we did. Service was kind and timely. We did have one waitress who was anxious, but she did not ruin dinner for us; she could use some slow down and slow food.

Sunday finds many restaurants closed in Vienna, especially in smaller neighborhoods outside of the…read moredowntown district. with web help we found this place. a short walk from our hotel that had a menu of items up our alley. salads, pastas, Austrian dishes, pizza, etc. only one other table occupied in the sidewalk dining area and none inside the too hot seating there. our server was a very personable and helpful young man answering all our questions with ease. my DW chose her usual fave, pasta bolognese. she enjoyed it very much. I was craving some veggies or greens but also something light so I chose a cucumber, tomato, and onion salad-similar to a Greek, hold the feta-with grilled chicken strips. We had seen entrees come to the other occupied table so we had an idea of the portion sizes served but when ours came it was wow. my salad was a large plate covered with bright chunks of tomato and cukes, with red onion and also some unlisted green peppers. No problem there. Then on top were about a dozen at least thin strips of freshly grilled chicken breast, clearly hand cut from an actual breast before cooking. The dressing was light but with a nice herbaceous note again similar to a typical Greek salad. The chicken was cooked perfectly. I tore this salad down to the plate and it couldn't have been more perfect for what was looking for. We enjoyed our experience here and would return and recommend easily.

The breakfast items we ordered came with pita bread, so we made little sandwiches out of it. SO GOOD! They even had picked red onions on the side. Our meal was supposed to come with orange juice, but we never got it. We also ordered coffee, which comes in a little ass shot cup. Didn't feel like complaining because we're out of towners and didn't want to be nuisance. Would definitely come here again, but this place is a smoking restaurant, and someone next to us was chain smoking

Well, let me say right off the bat that the food and the service get 5 stars... so why only 4 stars…read morethen... well, when it comes to a place as expensive as this (€€€ is closer to reality), I get a little nit-picky. A few errors in execution led to the lost star. I was not super hungry, and ordered bruschetta, and a starter portion of beef tartare (my first - I had had tuna tartare before). Delicious, pretty plates, relatively mild, not in-your-face flavors. --- Bruschetta was very pleasant! Usually, the bruschettas I get end up being a little bit acidic (from balsamic, tomatoes, etc). Here I was pleasantly surprised - the balsamic dressing, the salad, and tomatoes were a little on the sweet side, the lack of strong acid was very pleasant! The side salad was also a very nice touch. I would have liked a few improvements though. First, while they claim there is garlic, I didn't really taste it too much, other spices on the actual bread would be nice too (basil perhaps?). Second, while I liked that there were thinly sliced red onions, I would have preferred if they were more evenly distributed; one bread had one circle, another had more than five. Third, I would have liked the bread just a hair more toasty. --- As for the beef tartare, I didn't really know what to expect... I know what tuna tartare tastes like, but raw beef would be a unique experience definitely. It tasted similar to tuna tartare, both flavor and consistency-wise. There were slight differences, obviously, but I didn't feel like I was eating raw meat. I am sure there is some sauce that goes into tartare, but I would have preferred just a touch more. of it. Salad was the same kind that came with the bruschetta, only the leaves of it were not cut up at all. I understand that a restaurant shouldn't cut it into tiny shreds, but these leaves were too big. It looked pretty, but when it came to eating was a different story. Another "execution error" is that the tartare came with these little green things I have never in my life seen before. In them, the stem is not edible. They removed the stems from some, but forgot - or didn't finish removing it from others (I saw a crease on one as if knife was there, but didn't finish the job) Toast that came with it was perfectly toasted, and actually a very nice touch. P.S. Those little wedges that look like cheese aren't cheese, they are butter! --- Service was excellent. Extremely attentive, and not overly so. They were striving to make sure I, as the customer, was satisfied. For instance, when I was sitting there without a plate in front of me, they made sure someone had taken my order, and that I was all set. At one point I mentioned I was just waiting for my tartare... they went to the kitchen to see what was going on. The dish came out very soon after... Perhaps this is why there were a couple issues... they realized they had forgotten about me, and rushed it in getting the dish finished.

I cannot believe this place gets good reviews. 1. The food…read morewas too salty 2. My coucous was like one big ice hockey puck, you would not be able to tell the grains apart. Its quite obvious it was overcooked, and already it was replacing the quinoa that the plate should originally be served on. When asked how my food was as the waiter took the plate I told them about the couscous and I was completely brushed off, similar to when someone asks how you are doing but don't care to hear the answer or just not listening. 3. The soap in the bathroom is a nice theory, that one should grind down the soap. However the systems just doesn't work, not on the men's or women's (I asked my friend). You stand there for hours trying to grind the thing down, like so many before you, and nothing really comes out. 4. The thing that really upset me is that when they brought out the creme brulee, it was obvious it was sitting in the fridge for more than a day (it had condensed down, and the sugar "crust" was completely soft. When I asked them about it, instead of apologizing, they became aggressive and told me that one cannot expect restaurants to make the food fresh each day. REALLY? I mean, if I want to eat left overs, I can go home and eat what I made fresh yesterday too. Obviously they have a very different understanding of what a restaurant should be, but expecting fresh food to be served should not be in question. Why not make my steak the day before too and microwave it, or an old salad? I told them I was not interested in day old creme brulee and it was not charged but that became an aggressive point too where hockey puck waiter had to be told by his colleagues to calm down. And I was not the only person at the table not happy about the food quality (apparently the colour of the roast beef was in question one of my dinner companions). So why two stars? 1. Presentation of the salty overcooked old food was nice 2. It seemed clean and there was toilet paper. Price is up there, but as I wasn't paying the bill, just something you should note especially if you now know their policy is not to serve you freshly made food. There were a lot of people sitting outside, but it might be students who are having drinks since its near the university. Overall, NO due to quality, service and NO SOAP (or at least none you can actually get into your hands)!!!

Our waitress explained the "blind choice" concept which we both were willing to accept. We're also familiar with most variations on the small plates theme, and went for the three courses. Plus: Friendly welcome. As with most previous reviews, we found the food very nicely presented and of high quality. Minus: A really, really long wait between courses; and while small plates are by definition going to be small, the portions were tiny. For example, the solitary prawn on a slate to accompany the glass ramekin of soup reminded me of the moment when the Stonehenge monument appears in "Spinal Tap"; making a bigger thing out of it would have been a good idea. Well, at least the teaspoon was the correctly sized cutlery for this course. Summary: €28,80 a head for three courses of this size was way over-priced. Interestingly, their website claims that water is served free of charge, whereas we were billed. Time to reboot the concept...

Even after 5 courses, we didn't leave feeling stuffed, but definitely full which was perfect. The staff are lovely and the chef even came out to talk to us and ask about our meal. The concept of this restaurant was what intrigued us in the first place and they definitely delivered. We thought it was incredibly reasonably priced (for 2 people we paid €117) considering there was a wine pairing with each course and there was 5 courses, including appetiser and dessert. Overall a fantastic and homey experience. We'd definitely come back next time we're in Vienna!
