You will be given the choice of around 3 set menus all with their own fulfilling experiences. You are able to order particular items but it is recommended to experience these sets. The place is something like an art gallery as your handed one masterpiece after another as only the presentation sends the senses soaring. The place is very elegant but comes with a price. It would have to be the most expensive restaurant I have eaten at in Austria so for many of us it might be a place where one can only go to f they plan to propose or have that adventure of a lifetime. Hope you enjoy the ride.

The huftsteak (which I learned was rump steak) was a satisfying 220 gm and cooked exactly to my specification. I added a pepper sauce and a delicious side of grilled mixed veggies. It was all quite delicious. Schmid's has an extensive beer menu with 7 on tap and a comprehensive range of 80!bottled beers and ciders. In addition, a large number of wines are available. Service was very friendly (staff were fluent with English) and the establishment has an atmosphere that would not be out of place in any university town with touches of corrugated iron and rough sawn (but properly finished) timber and engaging background music. Should I return to Krems am Donau, I'll be coming back to Schmid's for sure.

But it was a Sunday evening and all was closed, quite, silent. Therefore, we decided try that famous Knoll place, which is usually pretty busy ... and a bit posh. Great soups (a Fish Soup with safran, a Goose Soup with liver dumplings), Roasted Pork with Dumplings, a delicious Tafelspitz, and Plum Dumplings, hmm. All accompanied with a wonderfully fresh Gruener Veltliner Federspiel Knoll 2012. The pride of this restaurant is its spacy orchard garden, of course, but it was too late and too cold to sit outside.
