They often have deals on with bottled bears and Bazardi Breezers and they are often an absolute bargain. I came here last summer as I was making a family meal and I had forgotten to buy tomatoes which were a pretty important ingredient. I nipped along the Tesco Express just a few doors along but they had sold out. Oh dear. Not really sure what to do I decided to give this little store a try. As soon as I popped in the door I was greeted by a box of red, ripe, juicy tomatoes, phew! I bought around 4 and they came to about 80p, what a bargain! The woman working that day was really helpful and chatted to me as she was bagging my tomatoes so I decided to share my tomato based disaster with her. Thank goodness Value Convenient Store saved the day!

People were always restocking shelves so you had plenty to choose from. We used both the self service and the manned checkout stands and they were equally efficient. Aisles were wide and the place was very tidy. If I lived nearby I would probably be in here every day.

I find the security staff intimidating and rude I think one guy there has mummy issues and should really have counselling and not be taking his anger out on customers who do no wrong. The self service section is a joke as half of them have not been switched on and the one l used made me feel as if l just won the jackpot on a fruit machine in a pub, how can a shop justify paying a customer 62p change in 2p pieces. Ice cream that has been defrosted is being re frozen and sold again when l reported the issue to the duty manager he did nothing. Tesco sort yourselves out!

This is certainly convenient and it does the job. However, I would rather walk a few minutes up to S & A Food Stores. Mainly due to the claustrophobic feeling that can easily be felt upon stepping into Ashy's. It's also a result of other customer's in Ashy's who seem indifferent to you at best, and down right rude at worst. Something which is a big pet hate of mine. I suppose, this comes with the territory of having people double park and jump into your shop for ciggies and the like.

It's a rather small shop, but they manage to cram an awful lot of good in. They have special offers each week and they'll often have buy one get one free on cans of juice or bottled water. A few times I've failed to spot these offers but the staff will always point out if I'm missing out on a bargain! The staff are also really friendly and you always get served with a smile.

The only thing that I'm beginning to find slightly off putting is the frequency with which we pop in for a weekend frozen pizza and a bottle of Black Heart rum Both of which are often too tempting to pass by with the frozen pizza a little pricey at £1.99 but really delicious and on the table within half an hour! Meanwhile, a tasty bottle of Black Heart is a mere £13.99. This shop is not only good for frozen and/or instant food but also stocks most simple ingredients for pasta bakes and the like e.g. cheese, onions, peperoni (three for £1.50) and jars of bolognese sauce. Full marks, top score and five stars all round.

Popular with kids in the mornings heading to school. Has a good choice of birthday cards and other types of cards and balloons, banners and stuff for parties. A basic choice of presents you can buy, maybe good for a last minute addition. Staff are really helpful if you cant find what you are looking for. Except for one guy who has to be the most miserable man i have ever met in a newsagents,(mistakingly didnt give me £2.75 change once, and denied it! the manager soon sorted it out though)) he doesnt smile, never says anything to you, and looks generally unhappy to be there,he also literally snatches the money from your hand. He usually only works in the mornings, so at least he is gone for most customers later on in the day. That one gripe aside its a great wee shop and really handy.

I've even began to deliberately go out of my way - a little bit anyway - sometimes in order to pop in here. Why, you ask. Well, anytime I've been in the staff have been friendly, chatty and very nice. Which makes you feel a bit better about parting with your pennies. The pennies have got to be the big number two of list of good points about S & A Food Stores. Despite, being in a prime location for desperate people stopping in to buy booze, ciggies and munchies; they do not overprice their stock. In fact, I've actually got some of the best booze deals ever in this shop - two one-litre bottles of Merry Dowe quality cider for a mere £4.50. That's them just screaming out to be bought! Plus, if you're coming from getting a tasty pepperoni pizza from Da Vinci's you'll need something to wash it down with. Mmmmm. Their nonalcoholic stock is also decently priced and of good quality. You'll get loads of crisps, the latest chocolate releases (Malteaser bunny anyone?) and all the popular magazines and newspapers. This is an excellent - and rather large - convenience store. It also stocks rows and rows of sinful stuff - wine by the gallon and ready chilled beers and ciders for when you really need a cold one with dinner. Likewise, the cigarette range is mightily impressive (possibly the closest to a tobacconist I've seen since good olde Herbet Love days). Meanwhile, there is also a post office counter which is available for pick ups 'till later than elsewhere. Though, if you are desperately In a rush to post something off at lunch time, give yourself plenty of time due to the screeds of pensioners who seem to congregate here. It has everything you might need in a hurry: an onion for a last minute basic home cooked dinner; some booze to buy on the way for the bus while heading out for a party or a newspaper to keep you occupied during the day.
