I go to this mall for one thing, Entry to the AMC Movie theater which is on the 2nd floor…read more. I have been going here for years. These past couple of years I have noticed store closures. Stores have been closing due to the lack of business in this mall. At current status, its a Ghostown! Shopping is really non existence. "Its rather creepy." Its a sad situation to see that so many businesses are closing down. There is talk that this mall will completely close for good, maybe a couple of years from now. Rumor has it that this mall will be demolished for condos or some type of housing real estate investment? Overall I would come back! Its probably a good time to shop at this mall now since everything will be in liquidation soon. As for now, every stores is giving some type of discounts. No congestion, no traffic and plenty of parking. The mall is clean. I advise to look out for some deals. I seen discounts here and there that is ridiculously great! Lots of history at this mall. Going to be sad to see when this place gone.

Review #606 2025-095…read more I'm backtracking my review count because the original #606 was for defunct Bird Talk Chicken that "it was removed due to the review & photos posted appears to depict a YEE" (I went back the next day because my fam really loved their food so it's unrelated). Anyways, the last time I've been to South Bay Galleria was in 2019, & dined at a few restaurants & shopped at a few stores: Sunny Side Up Deli & Grill (refer to Review #272), Fresh Splash (refer to Review #273), Cafe Meli Mellow (refer to Review #434), Crazy 8 (refer to Review #372), H & M, Payless Shoe Source, etc. Post pandemic, I only recently visited a handful of times for a Yelp event at French Touch (refer to Review #790), birthday parties at Wonder of Dinosaurs, Urban Youth Parks, & most recently, I went to an event at Orange Door Spaces with fellow mom from SBCS & watched a movie at the AMC Dine-In with my Yelp gal pal, Lily W. South Bay Galleria opened in 1985 & housed anchor stores like Nordstrom, Mervyns, Macy's. I started coming here in the late 1990s when I moved to the South Bay. I noticed declining foot traffic (likely because the food court lines have gotten shorter) since the departure of Mervyns in 2008 or 2009, followed by Nordstrom, & more store closures. Their foot court is on the 3rd level with a handful of eateries distributed on other levels. South Bay Galleria will be undergoing major redevelopment from its traditional shopping mall into a mixed-use complex. News vary from residential units, hotel, with commercial spaces & a parking garage on the surrounding parking lots, with the potential of some original buildings remaining, though a significant portion will likely be demolished to make way for the new development. There's not as much shopping opportunities/retail stores as there are experiences: Battleground (competitive multi-player story driven free roam VR experience), VR Place (10 station VR experience), QuestRoom (escape rooms), Skate Farm (skating rink), Funshare Arcade (arcade games, claw machines, ticket redemptions), Cherished Memories (elective 2D/3D/4D sonogram), Zen Relax (massage). Peekaboo Bin Store might be interesting, a sort of bargain hunt/discount, last chance store. Mall hours are short, & opened from 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM. If you're here for the movies in the evenings, park in the structure & exit at Level 4 to enter the empty mall (I was lucky to run into security patrolling the grounds to learn about this outside Q). I don't feel very comfortable here at night due to the parking lot's desertedness, but am glad to see security both times when I was here at Orange Door Spaces & AMC. I'm not sure if I'll be returning any time soon, but my kiddos are curious about VR & may stop by Battleground or VR Place, & possibly QuestRoom (are escape rooms still a thing?). Sad to see this once bustling mall fade away.

Alex Haley Gallery is run by a really warm, sincere, considerate owner, Yvette Mangual, who…read morespecializes in local talented budding artists. Much of the art tends to be graphic, hang on the wall type media, but there are smaller sculptural pieces as well as more practical art which features objects such as finely crafted pottery & ceramics. There are art gallery openings for featured arts on occasion where the artist himself/herself comes to mingle with the local guests. It's a convivial, cordial gathering presided by the ever so hospitable yet discreet impresaria of this rare outlet that features art in Gardena. I was an ardent art collector until the mid 2000's when all the available walls in my home were filled, but before that happened, I managed to purchase several interesting art pieces at Alex Haley. I found dealing with the owner to be a really pleasant experience. She has a warm charm that makes it a pleasure to be able to support local artists & validate their art by displaying them in my home. Although Alex Haley is in an unexpected location, it is filled with rather sophisticated art and objects d'art featuring artists who are from any ethnicity, cultural, religious, sexual orientation background, etc. so that the art is wide ranging. You will find truly eclectic art here especially when you attend their various art gallery openings so that you can witness the changing art. I bought a small painting by Jose Lopes whom I had met in one of their fabulous art gallery openings. We talked for a short time and found him to be intense, mysterious, other-worldly. His painting was of a dying man pictured with an aura in brimstone reds, dark black, volatile blues that seems to be escaping from his body moving skyward. The man himself painted in lurid flesh tones, dark red has only one unseeing eye open, mouth agape ready to leave his body. Strangely, after I had hung his picture, I found streams of what looked like dried blood running down the wall behind & just under the painting which I have not cleaned for fear that I might offend the dying man & Jose Lopes, the artist. In the back of the painting of the dying man there is scrawled in rough, impatient, rushed hand writing: ask me how many times i had thoughts about it this month how many times i have stared in bed pretending to sleep well past noon wishing for the end Jose Lopes "The end" 6-2006 Oil on Board (gesso) Another piece is of a surrealistic nature made of paints & cardboard cut outs of mice men trooping in front of a church with one of the men bleeding with a knife cut in the chest. However, I have bought much happier pieces at Alex Haley also such as an idyllic autumn hillside scene somewhere on the east coast with aquamarine blue sky, the leaves turning fall colors all reflected in a small lake. When I bought a post wedding reception scene by a young talented female artist at full price, the owner was thoughtful & kind and presented me with an intricately detailed Japanese style large teapot glazed in what looks like a celadon glaze finish with a delicate whirlpool design incorporated throughout the teapot. I feel that the Alex Haley Gallery is worth the time to peruse and appreciate the multifarious works by different local worthy artists. Also I like good deals, and being able to buy in an off the beaten path area as well as purchasing art by budding artists makes for saving thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars compared to buying on the west side
