I went for a massage that I received as a gift along with a hand and foot treatment. When I arrived the girl at the front desk informed me that the hand and foot treatment no longer existed and that I would get a 20$ gift certificate instead. I then got the massage by Selon. He was excellent. He listened to my wants and needs and I loved the massage. He then told me that he would use a special cream for my hands and feet. After my massage was done I went down to the reception again and asked for my 20$ credit and the girl informed me that the special cream was the hand and foot treatment. I just did the floatation bath, not the massage or Pulsar light therapy. It was a very interesting experience. Basically, you're led into your own individual room with one of the floatation baths, which from the outside looks like a personal space craft right out of Star Trek, but you open it up and lo and behold! It's full of half and half water and Epsom salts warmed exactly to body temperature, lighted in funky indigo blue, to such a high degree of concentration that you basically float in the water without even trying. Imagine being at the Dead Sea in Palestine/Israel and you get the idea. The idea of the floatation talk is that you go in, close the hatch, float, close your eyes and just let go of everything. Honestly, I think the reason why so many people love this is that on a subconscious level, it probably reminds many people of being back in your mom's womb, in utero. This was a first-time experience for me and I'm glad I tried it but I don't think it's going to be a regular feature for me. The water is SUPER slippery so be careful with that. I also have to agree that 1 hour was a bit long for me though I can see the benefit if you're super, super stressed. Facilities are super-clean, the attendants who explained everything to me were very nice and cordial, and it's literally a block and a half away from Beaubien metro. It's definitely a place worth checking out especially in the winter time. read more

Initially scary. Lie down ears submerged.......... a soundless void...........the water so thick (high density Epsom salt bath), you float. Close my eyes. Eventually, become one with the water........fluid, shapeless, calm, and at peace. Feel a heart echo through space. It is my own. a shadow. A jellyfish stalker. I'm daydreaming now ? Keep an eye out on their Facebook page for their 50% off sales on amazing packages, mainly the "inspiration" for under 50$ which includes Pulsar, NeuroSpa and an hour of floating. All of the services are there to get you nice and relaxed and boy do they ever succeed! Pulsar is a basically a light show projected on your eyelids through some funky glasses accompanied by music. Every time, I come oh so very close to just falling asleep because I'm so calm. NeuroSpa is a magnificent massage chair/pod that vibrates you into a state of near coma-sleep. It's so good that tou just have to try it out. There are no words. The floating baths are perfect, pristine facilities, well explained process by the staff and a sensory deprivation experience like no other. Basically you get to the point where you're not sure where your body ends and the water starts. I just tried their massages and was once again delighted. Don't hold back, go!!!!!! read more

I was just in MTL for the week, and my visit to the Ovarium was the highlight that makes me wish I never left! The staff was friendly, informed and patient, and the spa itself super clean and inviting. I was scared to death to get into the 'bath', small enclosed spaces freak me out. It was safe feeling, though, and I recommend it to anyone and everyone! I live in California and after my 1hr soak got the ihr California massage, and it was AMAZING! The massage or soak on their own would've been awsome, but the 2 together was sheer bliss! Let me tell you, the price was not cali-style at all, it was a great price, for a wonderful service. Hands down my favourite spa. Anywhere. I've been a regular client here for the past few years, and the quality and service have been consistently exceptional and exceptionally consistent. Love love love it. I do have to say, though, that while the flotation baths get all the hype (and hey, they ARE great!) the pulsar sessions are what really keep me coming back for more. As to the massages - they have been some of the best I have ever received. The friends I have referred here have been equally happy with their experiences. This applies to both male and female friends ... yes, guys, despite the (somewhat creepy?) name of this place, you will probably love the experience too. I suggest booking the complete trio package later in the evening, since it's so relaxing you will probably want to go to bed right afterwards anyways. Ps. When you take an appointment that's supposed to end at 7, yet after the massage ending at 6, you wait an hour to be told the bath is at seven, not the end. A email with all infos would have saved that situation as I would've not taken the bath knowing I didn't have enough time, instead I just paid for no bath at all. Very unprofessional. Im a self-professed workaholic, internet hoarder, and insomniac! I got a package deal to the Ovarium for my birthday and it was an amazing experience! I got the Pulsar Light, Floatation Bath and then a Massage in that order, and though, I was super skeptical about the Pulsar, that had to be one of the best relaxation time ever! So the glasses were on, the music started playing, and after what seemed like 30 seconds the session was over. In fact I had gone into the deepest mode of relaxation in my life. Apparently it was more like 30 minutes and the attendent couldn't get me to stir, so my bf had to get me up which he said took an additional few minutes to do so! I felt so refreshed after that, it felt like I had rested for hours! Of the 3 I admittedly did not have an easy time in the floatation bath, but I think the experience for me was a bit strange. it took me quite some time to get used to it, and when I finally relaxed enough to let my mind go, I floated to a corner, and got a bit sketched out because my body floated to one side, and not sure if I was asleep or not, but It made me jumpy. After that I was too wound up again to relax. The massage was heaven, I tried to stay conscious through out the massage but I think I was snoring (how embarassing) about 5 minutes into it. I have severe pain in my body due to arthritis and spondylitis, so I found that my body felt so great to have been worked on. The staff was great, they were kind and accommodating. The prices were really reasonable considering spa packages out there. The place was clean and quiet, tea was served, and you get a receipt for extended med benefits. I felt so pampered! Not only they have bad customer service over the phone..they employees aren't any better...I was helped by a male employe (whose name I don't remember) who treated me as if I was a leper or had a contagious disease. The flotation bath was OK, I can relax in my own bathtub with hot water and Epsom salts ( in the comfort of my own home) and with all the towels I need. I may not float but I won't be spending a wad of money. I found really crappy that they give you just one towel and nothing to put on the floor after the bath..the floor gets very slippery because the feet are wet with the gooey water...so after the relaxation you may end up falling flat on your tush or even worse, breaking a bone..and in the dark, since the light switch is away from the cabin and cannot be seen...Will I come back to have another "amazing experience" at this spa?......you can guess my answer.... read more

Went here about a year ago with a friend for massages, and the floatation bath experience. It was...interesting to say the least. Massages were great and staff were very professional. As for the floating bath.......let's just say it was a one time only sort of experience for me. I got quite bored, and didn't find it all that relaxing. This was by far the strangest spa I have ever been to: lights in the eyes, being put into a large water egg, sitting on a zero gravity chair while the chair hums and vibrates. Definitely not your regular spa that I go to with a facial, massage, pedicure. The Pulsar, or what I call lights camera action, was very cool: you sit in a chair with these funky glasses, and ear phones on. The lights dance around and you are to keep your eyes shut. It feels like when I was a kid in my parents Chevy Malibu driving across the country at night, sleeping, and the city lights were flashing through my eyelids as we went through major cities. My partner was also in the room getting the same treatment and he stated that I had snored, but I don't remember falling asleep! I would have like a longer session by about 5 minutes as I awoke feeling like I was still deep asleep, or maybe that was what was intended! The Egg, aka flotation bath was my least favorite, although it was fun/novelty to float in the water. I just couldn't shake the awkward feeling of hearing my heartbeat thump in my ears loudly while I was floating, so I had to work hard at not listening to it. Also the music is to tell you when you are to get out (angelic music), but my music had stopped completely, so I thought they had changed the signal and got out: turns out it was a technical malfunction and I only did a 1/2 session in the bath. It was ok because I was not thoroughly enjoying it like the other 2 services I had requested and just played with a pendulum sand thing in the lobby/waiting area. The Neurospa is where you sit in a zero gravity chair, and the chair hums and vibrates. At first I wondered if this was just a really bad massage chair, but decided to let my thoughts go and enjoy the moment... at first the vibration touched only my lower back,but then ran up to my mid back, then shoulders. Then pouf my arms and fingers felt like lead and I found it hard to move them - it was as if they were magnetically charged to the chair. It was a quick 30 mins,,,my partner said I snored again although I do not remember loosing consciousness! It was hard o drive home afterward, I felt like jelly and like I was sleep walking/driving (yes I sleep walk on occasion when I super tired!). Luckily for me my partner drove, although he too was out of it and nearly got into an accident. I woke up this morning still tired after 8hrs of sleep, but feeling at peace. CONCLUSION I would return to the Ovarium for the Pulsar and Neurospa and maybe even a deep tissue massage, which was something I had wanted to get here but could not due to time constraints. read more

Ovarium seemed so mysterious, I'd been dying to go for more than a year now. Well, thanks to a trusty Groupon, the mystery is no more! I had booked a Pulsar, Neurospa and flotation bath, in that order, for a total of 3 hours. First, I should say that it had been a very stressful day, add to that the fact that I was curious and unfamiliar with my surroundings, so I never really relaxed, but that's in no way related to Ovarium. I'm sure if I were to go back, I'd go with the flow a lot more. I was worried about the Pulsar, having bright coloured lights flashing 1 inch in front of my eyes didn't seem fun, until I fell asleep, only to wake up super energized afterwards! The whole thing lasts about 30 minutes, which is ample time to relax and refuel. Afterwards, I was ushered into another section of the spa, for my Neurospa. You are lounging in an oversized chair, which emits deep vibrations to music. The goal is for your whole body to unwind over time. This sounds swell, and it is, but I could never let go of the fact that, ohmygod, I'm in a pram! It's a pram! It's an oversized adult pram, complete with overhead cap that the personnel unfolds over you. I found it all very funny, and the purpose was defeated slightly. In the end, this is a lot more relaxing than the Pulsar, and I was sleepy when my time was up. The bath, as others have described, is egg-shaped but the door opens and closes, and the inside/outside lights up or not depending on your preference and comfort level. It's a whole procedure: you have to shower and wash your hair first, then descend into the egg, and float for a good hour. You can control both the egg's door/light/music from the inside! I chose to go for full silence/darkness, which I don't regret at all! It took me a while to get relaxed; if you're pint-sized like I am, you'll find it's totally easy to rotate in the pod, tour the pod, flip-flop around, and none of that is very meditative. Still, the sensation of floating is great, and the salts make your skin ridiculously smooth afterwards (but very slick during the bath, it's surreal). A soft carillon tells you your time is up, and off you go back into the shower. My main gripe here is with the space itself: after any treatment, you are ushered back into a fairly public waiting area by the door, before being picked up and guided somewhere else, which undermined any relaxation for me. The biggest exemple is after the bath, you've taken your shower and shampooed your hair, aaaand...you have to walk the whole nine yards, and meet the whole waiting area to go and dry it in the vanity room. The staff accompanying you is ever changing, which makes it awkward i think, so you'll start a treatment with one person, and awake to someone new. Eh. Once again, I think my experience was altered by my own state of mind, so your mileage may vary. Regardless I'd love to be back, mainly for the baths and maybe try the massages.. read more

One of the best spa that i ever went! Located in montreal,you will not have trouble finding parking since it is not downtown! In my opinion , the massage are very professional and good. The flotation bath is very fun to try but i wasn't totally comfortable sleeping "on the water" The pulsar is a very good way to relax but i found it was way too quick! I wouldn't mind sleeping in that chair for longer :) My only complaint would be that there is no locker. No problem for summer time but when it's winter i do not feel comfortable leaving my winter jacket there and personal belonging. Of course i can bring them with me but i find it very wierd and unpleasant to carry my belonging when i'm paying to come "relax". Overall good experience. I bought a package of 6 massages at the Home Show (good deal). I have gone and had, hands down, one of the best massages ever. I love massages and get them frequently (every 1-2 months or so). I like my massage strong to release stress. I haven't tried the pods since that really isn't my style. The one thing worth noting is that this is not a luxury spa. You do not go there for the luxury experience or ambiance - you go for the massage. If you are looking for a 'spa escape' experience I do not recommend it (I like those to). read more

I needed a massage badly since I have accumulated major tension along my entire back and shoulder areas. I wanted to keep it simple since this would be my first time at Ovarium. I've been used to amazing massages in NYC and this would be my first massage in Montreal. The ambiance was really serene and the people who worked there were very helpful. The place was clean and quiet. I met with Monica, where she took me to my private room, tastefully decorated with calming background music. We took 5 min to go over any health issues and she asked me if I have any specific areas that needed specific attention. The massage was so soothing with good pressure. She was very professional and never spoke during the session, which is what I like. There is a small lounge where you can gather yourself after the massage to recompose- you know, grogginess post massage, and have tea or something to drink. I liked it so much I plan to return next week. Hopefully it will be a great experience as the first time. read more

the "ovarium" branding is quite clever, but once I stepped in i was underwhelmed by the furniture (very 80's), and the massage areas (also very 80's), even the washrooms looked like they could be modernized... the massage was regrettably disappointing, and not quite as good as in other spas in Montreal. If you never had a massage, that's a good place to start, if you have (and have higher expectattions), then look elsewhere. read more
