I brought myself a deal from local twist site for a massage at this place, and went there yesterday to use it. It was very much mediocre experience. The spa itself is cute and pleasant looking. My hot stone massage experience SUCKED in a major way. My biggest disappointment was with my one hour massage session being used as a training session without asking me if that was OK with me. I had two people in the room, one was a primary masseuse, Helen, and a student, who barely looked 18 to me. Helen's touch is OK when she works the muscle, but her knowledge of pressure points is very limited, and it becomes more of "This feels tight to me, I am going to press as hard as I can, and hope it loosens the tight spot." There is a different between firm touch versus putting a lot of pressure on random spots. It was most uncomfortable when she tried to massage my pelvic bones, chest, and stomach, as well as during my scalp massage. The second most annoying thing was Helen giving lectures/directions to the young girl throughout the session. Did they think that whispering somehow equals to silence? Another reason for my annoyance was the student getting her hands on me at some point during the massage. I specifically asked for someone with the firm touch, and while the student was super sweet, she is clearly not someone who has been trained, and I am not thrilled that my time and my body was used as a training ground without my agreeing to it. Because the student lacked training few times she ended up digging stones in my body in very painful ways. It was painful enough I had to tell her to stop. And by stop I meant "Please don't touch me anymore." Instead it was interpreted as something else. What really did me in were last two things. One, Helen asking me if I liked getting a massage from two people at the same time, and immediately answering for me that of course I must loved it because it is so special. Second, when I was leaving the tip at the front desk I told the front desk lady that I wasn't happy with two people in the room, and before using me and my time as a training ground, the spa should have checked with me that it was OK to do. She pretended to give me a surprised look that read "What are you talking about?" (Did she think that I just made it up?), and treated me to complete silence on the subject. I also didn't appreciate Helen hovering behind my back while I was at the front desk leaving a tip. Personally I am not going back to that spa myself. There are plenty of neat small spas throughout Seattle, with the staff that is a lot more knowledgeable and friendlier. For anyone who is planning to go to the spa, I recommend talking out all the details before coming to the spa, and speak out right away if something in your service deviates from what you would expect in the spa. read more

I wanted to treat my best friend to a spa day and found the $139 deal for Spa Mercer that included: 60 minute massage, mud bath, and body scrub. We added on signature facials and booked. Mud Bath / Body scrub: This was a little inconsistant - they gave me disposable briefs to wear but the rest of you is totally bare. My friend was NOT given briefs and was told to just go naked. The little gal spoke hardly any English and used a brochure to explain what was happening/next. (You sat in a tub for a little bit, she gave a scalp massage while you were in there. Then you layed on a plastic bed while she basically bathed you. First a scrub mitt, then salt scrub, then honey bath, then rinsed off with a shower). FELT AMAZING. A little weird at first to have someone doing this to you, but it wasn't uncomfortable once she got going. 4.5 stars (only for the inconsistancy) Facial: AMAZING. We both loved it. Much more soothing than acne facials I've had before. They also do the skin above your breasts which I thought was great as I tend to have good facial skin and issues there. 5 stars Friends Massage: My friend had a massage with a gal with blonde hair (may have had dreadlocks) and LOVED it. We both get massages quite often, and she loved that she was able to get a mixture of deep tissue and relaxation. This was her favorite part of the day. 5 stars. My massage: I had Helen and I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND a massage from her. I've had massages monthly for about 3 years and I have never been in so much pain or had anything like this. She climbed on my back and used her knees for pressure and it was SO UNCOMFORTABLE. She has no finesse, no grace, no real technique, just "it's tight here, so I'll push really hard". It was awful. This was not a good experience. I used the Groupon and got the Chinese body scrub, and I added on a massage. The woman who did the body scrub didn't speak any English and I had no idea what I was supposed to do. I was completely naked, which I've never had to be before for a spa treatment. I was freezing--the little heat lamp they had did NOT suffice. Usually the parts of your body they're not working on are covered--this was not the case. I didn't even get to have the tub soak relaxation time before (I did get to sit in the tub, but the woman was in there cleaning the room the whole time) or the shower time because apparently they were running late and she had to clean everything from the last client and to prep for the client after me. It was ridiculous. The massage is the only reason this place gets 2 stars instead of no stars. I had Sunni and she was fantastic. And she spoke English! I get massages every few months or so for several years so I know what I like. She gave me an excellent deep tissue massage. Loved it! I've been meaning to get over there again for another massage from Sunni, so when the Spa Week deal came up I called to book it. I was told it was for first-time clients only. I gotta say, that's just a bunch of bull. Those kind of policies are ridiculous. Not to mention I was going to bring my husband too. So now they just lost two clients. NOT RECOMMENDED! read more

Been here for 2 facials, during this last one, I fell asleep so hard that I ended up waking myself with my own snoring, TWICE! yeah, it was DAMN good! I have gotten facials all over town and that's never happened. There seems to be a lot of complaints about the wraps and massages, I never get those, so my 4 stars only apply to facials. read more

Amazing!! I have read about how beneficial Chinese massage can be, now I feel the benefits. My headach was gone after the deep head massage and rocking of my body to my feet. If you haven't had a chinese body scrub, it is time. Not only did I sweat out all the yuk in my body, the massage therapist then scrubed my skin till I was soft like a baby's bum. I went there because of Groupon deals. $29 for 60 minutes Chinese body scrub or body wrap. I choose body wrap because in the description it said combine with massage. The place is nice and definitely got spa feeling. I like the room, the decor is Zen like. All the employees are nice and polite. The girl who give me the treatment is very pleasant and I enjoy the massage. At the end they let you took a shower. Now the bad part is, the treatment supposed to be for 60mins, unless they count the time since I disrobe and shower time, it's more like 40mins, and the massage it self is less than 10 mins, for the rest of the treatment, they put you in a heated zip bag which more like heated blanket that I use everyday and put it in a very hot level to make you sweat. The lady did told me the massage will be only about 10 mins, but they told me when I was there, not when I made the reservation or in the treatment description in their website. I couldn't imagine people who pays full price to get this treatment, I would be upset. So, overall .. service and massage is good, just don't get the treatment option. I found a deal on Google and looked up their website to see what services they had available. I went against my own rule of thumb (do not trust pictures) and bought 2 packages for my mom and sister. My sister actually read their reviews on Yelp prior to her appointment but she brushed it off thinking it's just a matter of personal preference. Boy, was she wrong! Both my mom and sister complained that their therapists took their time starting with their sessions. Also, my sister's therapist left the room often to get some stuff or answer the phone (who does that??!!). When she asked the therapist to put less pressure (this wasn't a relaxing massage session by any means, they were digging on the pressure points), the therapiest said in broken English that the more pressure the better. Uummm...how are you supposed to relax when you're in pain? Also, everyone has different tolerance when it comes to pain so you need to adjust your pressure depending on the person. Both my mom and sister were pretty disappointed about their services. What I thought was a nice gesture became waste of time. read more

Yesterday was our two year wedding anniversary and we thought we would celebrate by getting a couples massage from Spa Mercer! It was a fantastic choice on our part! The room was cozy and romantic and the massage was to die for! Sherry was my masseuse and she was incredible...very thorough and relaxed me to my very core! Helen I think was the lady working on my husband and from the look on his face...he was enjoying it very much...haha! We left relaxed, and rejuvenated! Been here several times - with my best friend and boyfriend at different times, both times for massages I liked the place, it was warm and comfrotable, not issues with the room or decor. The room was really clean and the place looked new. Massage - It was definiely a Chinese style aka Spa Mercer Signature Massage. I loved it, they stretch you and really get into your muscles. I went to this spa on a Groupon and got the 60 minute body scrub plus a moisturizing add-on. They were nicely able to accommodate me on the same day I called, and when I arrived early, they promptly whisked me into the treatment room. I received a nice robe and a little later, a pair of disposable panties and a small towel to wear over my chest. The wet treatment room contains a deep tub, a fancy shower, and a weird combo massage table/bath. If you're on the petite size, it's pretty awkward getting in and out of the equipment and there is definitely a slip risk, not to mention you'll be dropping your little towel down all over the place trying to catch your balance. So be forewarned, if you are very modest, you'll probably be flashing your boobies around no matter what. For the scrub, I began by soaking in the tub for 10 minutes, then the lady came in and scrubbed me all over with some exfoliating gloves followed by a loofa. The scrubbing part of the treatment feels awesome but it is only about 40 minutes long. It's a little less relaxing than a massage because you'll be asked to reposition yourself frequently, and sliding all over the wet table isn't the most dignifying thing. But if feels great! I got the moisturizing add-on at half-off for $20, and it was a little bland. The moisturizing treatment involves her pouring a heated honey-smelling treatment over you, wrapping you in cellophane, then massaging your face and head for 10 minutes. The massage itself was phenomenal, but for only 10 minutes, I would have been dissatisfied if I had paid full-price. The presentation could have been better, as the moisturizing solution was poured out of a tupperware container. After the treatment, I got to use the luxurious shower, but they didn't leave me a nice big towel to dry off with. The things that would have made this a 5-star review would have been a longer moisture treatment with better presentation (no tupperware - how about a nice decorative tin pot or clay pitcher?) and a warm heated towel at the end of the service to dry off with. read more

I really appreciate a real deep tissue massage and boy,is this the right place. I am a regular and go almost weekly,because at 64, it's nice to be able to re-achieve the posture and flexibility I enjoyed 20 years ago, actually, I never had this good a posture! Helen is amazing. She was some kind of therapist in China and she really works over and wakes up your muscles. It is true that sometimes she "hurts so good" I can hardly stand it. I went there this past summer and i twisted my back out doing some yoga moves and could barely move due to the pain. I tried getting an last minute appt but cldn't find one. Found Spa Mercer and used their internet coupon for $59. Awesome! Jenny helped me out. I found out that she is an actual chinese doctor in China. She did some accupressure and herbal pack on my back...after an hour, i walked fine and was almost back to normal. Wow...i followed up w/ another one a few days later and felt very good. She didnt speak much english though and i think the ambiance could be a bit better. I think the room was sorta of cold as well and they could have used a mirror in the room. The massage bed wasn't too comfortable either...but Jenny was really good for accupressure type massage. read more

I visited Spa Mercer during Seattle Spa Week. Perhaps it was because I was paying a lower price for a spa treatment because of the specials offered, or perhaps I caught them on an off day. The facialist never once introduced herself to me and kept having to leave the room to attend to other business. She was interrupted at one point. She left for nearly 15 minutes at another point. So awful. I don't recommend this place at all. I don't think it was very spa like, I really think it should be the type of venue where independent therapists work out of. I went with two girl friends for my friends bachlorette weekend. When I think of a spa I think we should go in, change into robes be offered various teas or coffees, and there should be a common room we can relax in before treatments and drink our tea, and you can return to this room before treatments. Two of us had massages and body scrubs and one of us had a massage and a body wrap. First they had lipton black tea and kirkland brand green tea on hand. Which I think kind of sucks and a little dish of mini snickers type candies. There is no common room to hang out in with your friends, you go right to your massage room. The massage me and one friend received from Sunny blew so bad. It was so awful. I could be a little bit of an elitist with massages so I didn't really dwell on it until my friends and I were able to chat after and my other friend who hasn't had that many massages said it blew too. She put a sh*t ton of oil on you and it felt like a 5 year old was finger painting on my back and just smooshing around the oil. You are just so glopped up that you get no friction really into your muscles. It was just really bad, and the couple of times I asked for her to go deeper, it was even more of a mess. I think that your hands and feet should get a decent amount of attention, but definitely not in this experience. I really need to give a visual of what happened I think... Then when I was done I sat in that room for about 10min alone on the bed with the door to the hallway cracked waiting on my body scrub. My other friend who had a different masseuse said that she got a painful pressure point massage that made her want to cry and she had bruises the next day, she did say maybe she felt more relaxed after but it wasn't worth it at all. Then I moved to the body scrub room, and at that point asked for a cup of that green tea, and received black tea in a mini dixie cup, with lukewarm water. Awesome. Imagine a tea bag in a mini dixie cup, there was about 2tbsp of water and the teabag in that cup. You take a 15min bath at this point in a some muddy water, this was fine, and I actually enjoyed the body scrub with this Chinese gal. I would have paid for this actually, maybe $40. Anywho. not as a spa experience. My friend who got the body wrap said they put her between two heating blankets and left her there for 40min. She wanted to leave. THEN hahahahhaa. okay we had got a special package and one of my friends got a birthday discount on top of that. And later that day the spa called and told my friend they couldn't actually do that and they had to charge her card for $14 more dollars to cover that discount. hahahahahahahaha. zomg. we were in a movie theater, but if we weren't I think we might have chewed them out. Seriously... to call for $14... It just isn't how I would run a spa at all... No attention to detail. When I got my massage there was something going on next door where people were falling on the ground and running into the adjoining wall and the therapist didn't once apologize for this or seem embarrassed at all. I would be so apologetic if it were me. That's all. Would have given it half a star. Or no stars. And would not go back. ever. in life. read more
