I visit every six months for my hair cut and shape. I have had two haircuts with Arissa and this is the only salon I will go to! Arissa is my favorite hair stylist! She keeps my hair looking super healthy and is such a sweetheart. I like getting around 1" give or take cut off for healthy ends. She is very skilled as far as her precision goes and great at guiding with her expertise when it comes to shape and length. She also gives great product recommendations I should mention! She cut my face framing pieces perfectly, and my hair is very even, thick, and healthy looking each time I leave her chair. She preps the hair thoroughly and gets it pin straight to achieve a flawless cut. My hair is 3b texture naturally , but I always blow dry and silk press it a day before my appointment. I personally like how much more even my cuts come out when they are done on fully straightened hair, because then when it is curly again it looks better than when I used to get devacuts and curly hair cuts. Not sure if that's because curly hair has a mind of its own but I take very good care of it so it's not an issue with maintenance, haha. If you have curly hair I recommend trying it! The ambience of this salon is professional , clean, accommodating and spacious. The front desk staff ladies are wonderful and polite they acknowledge all the clients who walk through their doors with kindness. I like that they bring you a drink of water when you arrive if you want one. It is quite a busy and happening salon so I like to visit on early week days before noon. I think $80 is a good price for a perfect haircut and shape up- mind you, pricing varies slightly more or less based on the stylist you select. Spa Bleu also gives rave-worthy facials. I have purchased and re purchased for my mom on many occasions and she says this spot is her favorite because of how relaxing and long the facials here. She says it is her special spa for when she wants to treat herself extra if she is not visiting her normal cosmetologist that month. Her go to treatment is the 1 hour Custom Tulasara Facial 60 Min, neck & decollete, and LED Therapy add on with Paula! Try out Spa Bleu if you are looking for a great haircare and facial spot! I want to first say I'm very picky with how my nails look. I went in for a gel manicure with chrome and was really happy with the color and shape of my nails but when I got home after my visit I noticed minor details that I didn't like. I was able to get in contact with the salon to have me come back to fix my nails. My original technician I had before redid all my nails and fixed them to my liking no problem free of charge. They're customer service is the least of their concerns and given the nature of I group I believe we were discriminated against. They essentially told us one thing, advised that the appointments were booked along and sent over invoice. Once we responded to confirm the invoice they advised that they had already booked over our appointments 2 days prior for a large group of 8. They offered no remorse or apology for the error with no intentions of rectifying the situation in any way. I was super excited to find this salon after moving to the area. On my second visit, I had the worst haircut I've ever had. I asked for an experienced stylist when I booked, so I was slightly concerned when I had to point out that my hair looked uneven during the cut. All seemed ok when I left (except for the checkout person overcharging me twice) - but after washing my hair a couple days later, it was clear that my hair was completely uneven, chopped up on one side, and an overall mess. It took a second full haircut to fix it (and a second tip, and a second evening of my time). I ended up with shorter hair than I wanted because of how much had to be cut off to fix it. I was very happy with the second cut and stylist -- but it was a terrible experience overall. I had no intention of writing a review, but after being told that management would call me the next day to discuss my feedback -- and to see what they could do to keep me as a customer -- no one called. During the work week I called Spa Bleu for an impromptu massage as my elbow started randomly hurting that day and I have been having several stressful weeks. I remembered seeing Spa Bleu in the South Barrington Arboretum and decided to try it out. I sent out an appointment request via their website and within 30 minutes I was called to book my appointment. I asked if there was any availability for the same day, luckily there was. When I arrived I checked in at the front desk, was asked if I wanted anything to drink and took a seat near a window, it was their waiting area. I was then walked over the the spa waiting area. I was given a locker that had a thick comfortable robe, a basket, and key for the lock. Laura was my masseuse, she walked me over to a massage room. There was the sound of the ocean in the background, the light was dimmed, and then my massage began. Laura was AMAZING! She worked out my knots, by the time the massage ended I felt so relaxed and my elbow already was starting to feel better. She also gave me some advice on what to do at home for my elbow whenever I'm starting to feel discomfort again. That was easily the best massage I've ever had! I got dressed and went up to the receptionists to check out and booked my next massage for next month. I want to try the Chakra massage, it sparked my interest, there is some meditation along with that massage. I am so looking forward to trying it! read more

It was my first time here and I really enjoyed it. Through a recommendation from a friend I saw Nicole for a haircut and she was awesome, she was very friendly and listened to my needs. I told her about my scalp issues and she told me about products that would help and didn't make me feel bad about it. I asked her for long layers and I feel like that's exactly what she gave me. She has super elite shampooing skills and I felt so relaxed after I left and my hair was so silky and smelled amazing. They got me in right away for a consultation and the stylist was very attentive and we developed a great plan of action. When it came time for my service, we again went over everything and my hair is amazing! (I got a compliment on it the very next day!) Absolute ghastly conduct by salon manager! I was going to the quite snobby Spa Bleu for about a year before my wonderful hair technician Danica left unbeknownst to her clients. I was then put with a very incompetent hair technician who died my hair black instead of dark brown as she was supposed to. When I discovered it was black, she denied it when it was plain for all to see that it was black. She then continued to dry my hair stick straight and straighten it with an iron when my hair is naturally wavy and I told her I wanted body, not straight. Then she snapped at me that she was trying to let me leave on time and that's why she was doing my hair that way. I would have left on time if she didn't dye my hair black. She got very nasty at the end when she realized her errors and had a huge attitude. That's when the salon manager came back flying off the handle in front of me and other customers. She was yelling and challenging me on the service I got. I've never had this kind of experience in a salon, ever. Extremely adversarial manager. They still had me pay the full amount. I vowed to never come back and the manager said something to the effect of- "sure, get out!" For such a "classy" place, it can get quite trashy if you're dealing with her. Bad bad temper. read more

The stylists don't even know how to do layers and bangs, they totally messed up daughters hair and she has to wait for 3 months to fix it because they cut it so short. And it does not matter whether you book fresh talent or experienced their goal is to squeeze out $100 minimum. Best salon experience I have had by far. I went in for a balayage and ended up not liking the color I got since it seemed darker than what I originally asked for. I called the salon and they called me in for a consultation and fixed the problem for me making sure I got exactly what I asked for while still keeping my hair as healthy as possible. I went to Spa Blue in South Barrington for a routine bleach touch up that I've had performed hundreds of times at other salons with no issues. Considering that I was paying well above the average market rate for the service I was purchasing at Spa Blue, I would expect competency from this salon, but unfortunately that was not the case. What I asked for was a bleach touch up and what I received was an orange disaster. The color was inconsistent, brassy and poorly executed. I paid $260 (for color alone) to receive an unacceptably bad dye job that looks like it came out of a box dye kit from Walmart, at best. To make matters worse, the stylist tried telling me it was my fault because my roots were too dark (that's weird I've been having my hair colored for 15 years and that's never been an issue even once before). I was offered no solution until I incessantly complained at which point I was treated like I was being done a favor for having them fix their mess. I was told I could come back a few days later (which meant I had to walk around with orange hair for days because of the Salons incompetence). While their attempt to fix their mistake was a slight improvement, it was still an unacceptable finished product for the price I paid. My hair was still brassy, giving off an orange hue that I could have gotten from a box. This salon lacks the talent and expertise to charge the prices it does. This review is for the recent manicure my friend & I had here. While the two nail techs we had were quite pleasant their skills & end results were not. I've had far superior manicures from a little strip mall place for a fraction of the price at Spa Bleü. For myself, within hours my manicure was chipping & whole nails of paint would just pull up or come off completely. My friend, I can't believe she left the salon without complaining. Her manicure was so sloppy she could have done a better job herself. We had a holiday party that night & the next day so there was no time to return to have it fixed. I carried a bottle of my own clear polish around to reattach the color on nails that were separating. This was not due to our doing any cooking, cleaning or any other manual "labor" that would mess up a manicure. It was a normal day just hanging out. And a free makeup touch up is given once you're finished and ready to leave - such a nice perk! After a friend received waxing services at Spa Bleu and highly recommended them, I decided to visit this spa for my first ever waxing experience. I wasn't necessarily nervous, but waxing is something a little more personal and you want to make sure you go with a clean, professional place. Checking in at the spa was great. I received a hot towel to warm up and was offered coffee, tea or water. The place inside was very clean and the lady at the front desk was all smiles. One small thing I noticed is that they use laminated paper and dry erase markers for any paper work you fill out. The environmentalist in me appreciates how they are saving paper that way. Emily was the esthetician that took care of me and I couldn't be more thrilled with her services. Not only was she easy to talk to, she made me feel so comfortable. I had a great experience with Emily and will definitely return for future waxing touch ups with her. Upon checking out, I also received a little gift for it being my first time there and it was well appreciated. I can see Spa Bleu as a high end and a more pricey spa, but you honestly get what you pay for. With the experience I had, I feel like my end price was justified. This is the second time I have been to this location, and this is the second time I have left feeling disappointed. I just cant get past the front desk people feeling entitled to be rude because they are in an "upscale" spa atmosphere. Embarrassing a customer is never called for. Ever. I purchased a gift card for my wife ($100) and they handed me a plain white envelope. I noticed on the shelf they had gift bags so I asked about them. I was informed those are for purchases OVER $100. She could not have been more insulting about it either. I was so embarrassed I just said thank you and left with my envelope. Let me just say the bags are just ordinary, nothing special or fancy about them. They just present better than an white envelope. From the reviews, I am guessing this attitude starts with management and trickles down. It is very sad in this day and time, and 100% I get that it comes from a person's sense of themselves. I'm not sure what Spa Bleu considers class, but my mother taught me that it is someone who displays kindness, appreciation and etiquette. Your mood never affects your manners. If they treated me this way buying a gift for my wife, it makes me worry how they would treat my wife when she comes in with a simple little $100 gift card. I have been going to this place for about three years. I have regular facials and eye-brow waxing, and a few hair cut, color, styling, medi & pedi here. I usually request Katie for the regular facial and waxing, because since I started doing regular facials here, I noticed that my skin has improved greatly. Katie would also recommend products that will work in compliment with current products that I'm using daily. She also did a great job on eye-brow waxing. I have never been disappointed. I am very disappointed in my experience at this Spa. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars and not 1 is because the space was lovely, it was clean and intimate. Now onto the "service" I've had several experiences receiving a mani/pedi at other spas and I will continue to take my business to Anthony Vince, located in the same parking lot. I went here as part of a bridal party to receive mani pedis and I could not believe the poor job that was done and the service we received! My nail tech was Erin who acted like she didn't want to do my nails, she told me it would be an extra ten dollars if I picked two colors. Picking two colors is very common, when you are already paying $120 for the entire service you'd think they could handle one nail being a different color. She also looked at me and said "I can't do that!" When my request wasn't nail art. I was tempted to do it myself. Upon arrival they gave us tea which was nice. They said all of us would receive a foot soak and a head massage. We didn't. A few girls got a head massage, I didn't. And the bride didn't either. Even though we paid to have the same service. The bride had the same nail tech as me and was not thrilled to see she didn't paint the entire nail evenly, it looked like a child did it. She didn't push the cuticles back which made them look outgrown. There were smudges on mine and it literally chipped after ONE DAY! A home mani/pedi lasts longer! The whole experience was unfortunate especially for the price they charge. I am going to call today and see if I can get my money back. We will not being going back. read more

Overall, I was not particulary happy with the outcome after visiting this place for the second time. If you have thick and healthy hair you might want to read more... What I came here for: Basically, I needed color with highlights and a cut. The Good: Staff here is very nice and friendly, the salon is very clean and the -atmosphere- relaxing. My hair cut came out mediocre. The Bad: For service and the highlights, I was -rushed- and in the end didn't get what I paid for. Highlights take time, especially if you have a lot of hair (like me). And, If you have thick hair, you might be penalized for that. ...by paying more. To my surprise, I was actually told (inadvertently, I'm sure) by the stylist that the salon has a set limit to how much product (ie: chemicals/color/bleach) they are 'allowed' to use. This came across to me as -very petty-. I know these products are inexpensive. Maybe this salon should just give Discounts for those that have pixie type hair instead of adding 'extra charges' to the 'full head of hair' clients. That way at least some clients will feel like they received a 'deal' and other clients won't feel like they were 'ripped off'. That would balance things. I am not a cheapskate by no means, in fact I always leave twenty percent, always. I just don't go back. The Ugly: The expensive highlights I had are barely noticeable and does not match my previous -light blonde- highlights. The few highlights she did give me, matched my base color more than like blonde highlights. Bottom line: No major blunder here for me, and I know a lot of people like this place. There were a lot of good reviews, which is why I came here in the first place. But considering what my experience was here and what I paid, with what I received (not much), I will not go back. I booked a mini massage/facial and a blowout service to follow. I don't normally treat myself to spa services regularly given the time constraint from my day to day obligations but I decided to give this place a try. I started with a 1:45 appt and left at 5pm. My services started out heavenly with the massage and facial. However, my hair services created more stress for me and voided my relaxation I was trying to achieve. I was treated to a mini hand massage due to a delay of my har service and still had to wait a very long time there after before I was seen. The stylist was very nice, however, my hair looked awful when I left. I get blowouts regularly from various salons and I left here looking like Simba from the Lion King! My hair was frizzy and not polished and this was a huge disappointment after waiting so long. Naturally curly hair must remain wet or be resprayed section by section to achieve a sleek blowout for this hairtype. The stylist offered to try to sleek it further but it was too late because my hair was completely dry and the frizz had set in. Needless to say, I would consider revisiting the spa but will not be rebooking with the salon. I left more stressed than my arrival and my afternoon was shot! NOT WORTH IT!! So I came here on Friday for my single process color. I have been here plenty of times and to be honest it's a hit or miss depending on the service and the stylist. So on Friday Melissa the fresh talent who I had quoted me for a single process color at $140. 140!!! For a single process color !!! I was going dark too so super easy!! No lifting hair or anything ! Now what's interesting is I recently had gotten a hair cut just a couple weeks prior and had about 3-4 inches chopped of. Usually when I get a single process color it's around $100 plus conditioning treatment. I usually end up around $120 which I still think is a lot for a single process color but I liked the place and products so I didn't mind. Once I had Emily do it and it was $120 with conditioning treatment. She knew what she was doing! Usually when I do partial highlights it's around $160-200 depending on what I ask for. A couple months ago I had a single process color and cut done for $160. So this visit I was thrown off by the fact she quoted me at $140 for a single process color when in fact my hair length is actually less than the previous times. When I asked her about this she said "it's not about length it's about volume" that's hilarious because everyone I know tells me I have thin hair. NOT THICK AT ALL. My friend was with me at this appointment and she ACTUALLY has thick hair and it's VERY APPARENT. So that was just a ridiculous statement. Then when I asked why $140 again and it still doesn't make sense how a service can go from being $90 to $140 (bc for a fresh talent to do a single process color it's $90) when it's usually around 100 she said it depends on the volume of your hair and how much grams of color product we have to use. So she further explained every extra additional bowls she has to use is an extra $10. Usually from past services they usually use 1 extra bowl for me. She literally quoted me for 5 EXTRA BOWLS! "It's better to quote higher so there's no surprises" she said and there's no garuntee we will need 5 extra bowls. So I'm thinking ok whatever sure, she probably won't use 5. Also during this time the manager decided to stop by to see if everything was ok and explain. Literally she walked up and just started talking about why it's $140. She did not introduce herself to who she is nor greeted herself in a professional manner. I had to ask "and who are you?" That's considered poor professionalism. Anyways I will say Melissa stayed professional and was kind throughout the service. I appreciated her trying to explain even though $140 is ridiculous. After everything was completed I went up to pay and the manager was at the register. I don't know her name bc she never introduced herself with her name. I expressed my concern and explained in the past I have never paid this much for a single process color.. I've paid $160 for a cut and color before together so this didnt make sense. This time she decided to have an attitude and say that the owner can call me (which no one has called me yet). She was explaining to me how they ended up needing to use 5 EXTRA BOWLS IN MY HAIR AND BECAUSE THEY ALREADY QUOTED ME AT 140 that's all they decided to charge but apparently USED MORE BOWLS!! HOW DID THEY USE MORE THAN 5 EXTRA BOWLS FOR MEDIUM LENTGH THIN HAIR??!? If anything the color was kept in my hair wayyyy too long and fried my hair. I don't believe she handled the matter professionally and was very rude. I have referred many friends here in the past and brought friends with me as well for services. Although it was a convenient location and I had a few good services in the past, I will NOT be going back here and def NOT recommending any friends or family here anymore. I used to be obsessed with this place and came here for my regular (or not so regular) haircuts. I LOVE Aveda salons the oils, products everything smells wonderful! I had my go to girl here and could count on here for a not scary haircut. I went here for my wedding style (other location) and used the same stylist after that. I followed her when this new location opened up, loved the services! The Aveda tea is delish and fantastic to get a cup while getting your hair done...just be careful not to get any hair in it. eww. I gotta say though it's been about 2 years-ish since i've been back. My girl told me she was leaving and transferring to an Aveda salon closer to the airport. I was kinda bummed but willing to still go to her. Well she said she would let me know and send an email, etc. Yeah never got that email and she got swallowed up by the world I guess. Kinda disappointing since I went to her for a while and still didn't seem worth her time. Instead of going to the Aveda salon again I went somewhere else and really got a better cut. I hate to admit it but I was so transfixed by the lure of Aveda goodness that I didn't realize that my haircut sort of sucked. But I have curly hair and that's a beast in itself! While I miss the products I haven't been back. Maybe in the future since this place is awfully nice. I suggest trying it out at least once if you're in stylist limbo but if not, meh. read more

As I'm typing out this review, I keep checking out my nails and they are just beautiful! I had an appointment in the area and used Yelp to find a nail salon that offered no-chip as it was time to fix up my current no-chip mani. Trusty Yelp led me to Spa Bleu and I quickly made an appointment. I was greeted immediately upon entering and was offered, coffee, tea or water (lemon or cucumber). The salon is sleek and very clean--something that's pretty synonymous with Aveda salons. I soon met Lauren, my nail tech, who was very nice. It was very easy to chat with her and she seemed really interested in the conversation (sometimes I think salon staff are just trying to be cordial--but she honestly seemed so friendly). She did a great job on my nails--cleaned up the cuticles and shaped them exactly as I like. The no-chip application was flawless. They use OPI for their No-Chip, but she also showed me colors in a new line of No-Chip they will be using soon (forgot the brand). The manicure ended with a mini scalp/neck/shoulder massage (a very nice surprise). When I checked out, I was given a coupon I could use for a future visit and by signing up for their email list, I will be issued another coupon to use, PLUS another coupon to use during my birthday month. The salon offers hair services, massages, facials along with the manicure/pedicure offerings. It's pricier than my usual nail salon, but their service from beginning to end was top notch--worth every penny. read more

I really appreciated the time she took to explain everything to me and to offer suggestions based on my needs. I honestly could not have better things to say about her. I have already scheduled my next appointment. As for the spa itself, it was very clean and I really enjoyed the relaxing/calm environment you provide. Beautiful! From the outside, you would not expect to find a relaxing spa inside. Even when you get to the front desk, you will find a very hopping hair salon. However; when they escort you to the spa lounge section to wait for your therapist... it transforms. They hit all five senses as soon as you enter. The tea was not my thing, but I love cucumber or lemon water! This is the only time I've had a massage blend in so many techniques to loosen that stress I was carrying like luggage. There is NO additional charge for aromatherapy as most other places do, and their standard massage incorporates eastern and western massage techniques! Yes, their prices are a little more expensive, but well worth it. I also received a facial, and I was very happy with the glowing results. She too kept incorporating the aromatherapy to increase the relaxation. My face was glowing, and she recommend some things I could do with my current routine that have helped a ton with my complexion. Who doesn't love Spa Bleu? Hair cuts/color service include scalp and shoulder massage, hand massage and a finishing touch of makeup!! Worth the money! I recommend Andrea Kusch! She is amazing. The salon has a very relaxing feel to it which is perfect for an after work visit! I've also had facials there with Jay Rangel! She is also great and very knowledgeable! I visit her at least once a month. If you're looking for a cheap haircut, this is not the place for you. However, if you're looking for a great haircut with and amazing spa experience then you should definitely call to book an appointment. read more
