I don't have a ton of sushi experience but the options at this location were great. We tried two regular rolls and a specialty called the Volcano and it was so good. Honestly I have been all over the place. This is by far my favorite sushi of all time.

This place has a whimsical atmosphere and incredibly attentive service. It's a great place for a family meal or a nice date. Our waitress was super witty, and that just added to our meal. She brought out our drinks right away, teased about the size of the Sapporo, and offered to bring a second glass to share. Our drinks were never less than 3/4s full. She also waited until we weren't chewing things to genuinely ask us how our food was. I would bet that this is Korean from the flag and fan behind the counter and some of the interactions and flavors. They should own this if it's true. The gyoza were off the hook good. They had grill marks and the filling was tasty. The miso was also better than average. The stock had a depth that is usually absent in America. The fresh salad didn't have any slimy leaves in it, which happens elsewhere with alarming frequency. Also of note was the tasty peanut sauce and delicately carved cucumbers. It was dressed just right. We had the sushi deluxe, the SOB, and the Golden Scallop. This would easily be enough food for 4. Alas, there were 2 of us. We fixed the problem. The rice to fish ratio is a little off. If they pared back the rice just a little bit, it would be perfect. None of the sushi was miscut, so it all went down very smoothly. It was our first time here in a few years and I remembered the sushi being better last time. The preparation and fish were very good, but the low grade sushi rice threw the taste off. They didn't have any miso for some reason and substituted clear soup without telling us which I didn't mind. The broth was stronger than I am used to but was tasty. Nice place. We came over lunchtime on Saturday and it wasn't busy at all. Server was friendly. We order the California roll, Cali roll 2 and Philadelphia roll. It was a pleasant short walk from our timeshare and worth the exercise. I was amazed at how quickly our order was taken and our food to arrive. My wife and I have eaten here three time now. Twice last year and once this year. We visit Va Beach once a year for a week. We came back because we enjoyed our sushi and service we had the year before. Again it was very enjoyable. The service could of been better, they were busy, but the waiter was friendly. I felt as if he were over whelmed though. The fish as always was very fresh and we usually do our fish shashimi style. My wife dips it in soy and I do not. I loved this small cozy spot! Even tho we arrived 40 minutes til closing, the staff still welcomed us inside to take a seat and order. We started with miso soup and Eventually ordered the chicken hibachi, volcano, and a dragon roll. The food was definitely worth the rush! The sauce was great and the sushi was fulfilling. It was fresh and full, most places provide customers with skimpy sushi rolls with more rice then filling. We ordered ice cream for dessert, and was unbothered or rushed to finish and leave. I appreciated the staff not telling us it's closing time, or intentionally cleaning in front of us to rush us out the restaurant. Be careful when checking off the sushi list and double check you've selected the wrong one as my dad accidentally placed his check below the sushi he meant to order. He still enjoyed his roll though! The food is incredible. However the service is absolutely awful. We have been coming here for years. Unless you sit at the sushi bar don't bother going here. During the pandemic they offered take out. The problem is the staff is very very rude. There is a young waitress that argues with guests. Sushi is expensive. We went to this Sushi restaurant tonight, which is in the Shoppes @ 31 Ocean. The service was friendly, and the food was good. We had two standout items, a delicious baked salmon roll with a teriyaki-type glaze, and a yummy "Volcano" roll, which was crunchy and fried. The other sushi rolls we had -- spicy tuna, kappa, Philadelphia and shrimp tempura -- were fine, but not better than sushi we'd had before. I saw the reviews for this Japanese restaurant while down here in Virginia Beach. I thought I'd give it a try. The food was okay but definitely now what I'm used to as far as hibachi is concerned. The sushi burrito looked good like something worth trying. However my hibachi rice was not like any fried rice I've ever had. It was thick and had a different texture than I'm used to and there was no egg. The vegetables were covered in a thick "teriyaki" or bbq sauce. The scallops however were cooked quite well. The customer service was good. The only issue I had with that was there was no one tending to the bar. The server had to make my drink and didn't know how. I give him credit for trying. They don't have a cocktail menu so they just try whatever you ask them for. I asked for an old fashioned but in hindsight I should have just asked for something simple like a whiskey ginger. All in all my experience was okay. If I go back I would try the sushi. If it matters to you, none of the employees are Japanese so it's not authentic. read more

The waiter freaked out and threatened to call 911 even though they failed to provide adequate and reasonable service. She did call 911 and proceeded to lie and tell them that we were drunk and refusing to pay which was not the case. She bizarrely ran around the restaurant screaming on the phone like a psychopath while I waited patiently to pay at the counter for the first order that arrived immediately after ordering. Then the manager excused that they had a lot of takeout orders. Learn proper customer service and fire your out of line server and then maybe I'll consider patronizing your restaurant again.
