MY EXPERIENCE: I contacted 3 glass companies and Stephen (the owner of Dallas Glass & Mirror) was the only person/company to respond. Stephen is the owner and the main installer, which I appreciate, because I have had problems with OTHER contractors in the past when the salesperson/owner plans the job but then sends an employee or subcontractor to complete the job. With THIS company, Stephen planned the job and completed the work as promised! See photos. TIPS: I found the easiest way to contact Stephen was via email because he always responds to emails at 6AM. I suppose he checks his email every morning before he heads out to work. You can also call or text him during the day and he will answer in between jobs. PRICING: Good prices. No surprises-- the price quoted is the price I paid. Stephen charged a fair price for the shower door and the large mirrors. Actually, the mirrors were a real good deal. Stay away from this company at all costs…read more We had a large custom solarium window that needed to be replaced as part of a bedroom and bathroom remodel. I asked for a quote from Sunshine Sunrooms. Jerry Lackey the General Manager and Danny Ortiz the Project Manager came to my house, reviewed the project, and said they could absolutely handle the job. Jerry talked about how great their customer service was, how well they communicated, how I would be kept informed every step of the way, and how smooth the process would be. Even though Jerry was more like a used car salesman than a contractor, I decided to go with them because I thought they had expertise in this area. Unfortunately, none of what they promised from a customer service, communication, or timeliness of the process standpoint ever materialized. I was the one who had to constantly follow up for updates on the build, delivery, and installation of the product. Throughout that process, I was given misinformation about when shipments would arrive, the completeness of shipments, and when installation could occur. I was told that all parts had arrived only to find out after the fact key pieces were missing because they didn't inventory their shipments. I was told installers would start on a certain day only to be told the original installer refused to do the project. This delayed our overall remodel for weeks because this window had to be installed before the bathroom was completed. This left us trying to get by with limited bathroom facilities and sleeping areas. Throughout all of this, even though Jerry Lackey admitted he knew what was going on, he never reached out to apologize or offer to help rectify the situation. The only other time I heard from Jerry was when he called me to threaten me with legal action on my property because I asked them for some consideration in the overall fees due to the inconvenience they put my family through. Can't tell you how frustrating this company was to deal with and having Jerry Lackey threaten me was just the icing on the cake.

A Guest Bath Window With Charm, Class & Privacy…read more When I was making my initial drawings for New Moroxico, for the downstairs guest bathroom I sketched out a classic Tudor style window above a clawfoot tub. It had the quintessential diamond pattern of leaded glass on a window that was set into a stone wall and split vertically -- with two panels capable of opening outward like a French door. It was important to me that the window be functional as well as beautiful, providing my guests with the option of bathing with an open window, looking out onto the delightful fountains and luscious gardens beyond, should they be so inclined. Knowing what I know now about the City of Dallas and all its building and energy codes and environmental stipulations, it still shocks me to be be able to tell you that this is EXACTLY what I ended up achieving!! In the end (and with very little visual compromise, I might add), a gorgeous, functional, energy code approved, diamond-patterned Tudor style window now exists in my new home, looming stunningly over a huge copper tub. Of course, the city would have never approved a real stained glass window made in the traditional way, which is why we had to apply the specialty glass over a "proper" modern window-- one with energy efficient glass. Why I'm mentioning all of this is because if you are like me and nervous that doing a stained glass window this way won't look very good or won't look authentic, I am here to tell you that Jeff McMaster with Standout Glass is a skilled craftsman who does such expert work that you have absolutely nothing to worry about. My window looks every bit as charming and classy as the leaded glass windows of homes in my neighborhood that were built in the 1930s, and I have yet to encounter a single person who has questioned my window's authenticity or had anything other than praise for the finished result. There were many aspects of building New Moroxico that were extremely challenging and frustrating; but this wasn't one of them. Jeff came in and did his work quickly and perfectly, and for this reason he is someone I would gladly use again and someone who I would highly recommend to others.
