Probably one of the most painless flights that I've ever had. I guess I can also attribute this to the ease of navigating the El Paso airport. I'm starting to learn that smaller airports are so much more enjoyable, even though I rarely ever get a chance to fly into smaller airports these days. Got to ELP two hours in advance thinking that the check-in and TSA lines would be crazy. Couldn't have been farther from the truth. Literally spent the better part of an hour and half just chilling and waiting for my boarding announcement. When it came time to board, everyone was in and on the plane in a breeze. Despite it being a small plane and small flight, I was able to snag a window seat and had a nice nighttime view of the city while the plane took off. The attendants were friendly, the seats appeared to be clean and they were quite comfortable. Since this was a shorter flight, I didn't partake in any of the "entertainment" services. They had extra snacks and the flight attendant offer me and the passenger next to me extras. I'll never say no to some Southwest trail mix :). The only thing that I found odd is that they had a "plane change" in Phoenix. Never understood why this is the only airline that calls layovers "plane changes". I also don't understand why they don't have a direct flight from SFO to ELP, but maybe because ELP is a smaller airport. But, I digress. In the end, I had a good experience with Southwest on this flight. I don't always fly Southwest, but this flight experience made me question why I don't fly with them more often. read more

my daughter is currently on a SW flight about to take off. She is flying alone across the country to meet us (her parents) for the first time in her young life and had a panic attack, threw up and started crying. She asked the flight attendant if they had an aisle seat she could move to because she was so embarrassed that she needed to throw up she wanted to be able to get to the bathroom easily. Instead of being kind and helpful to a young girl in obvious need of help, the flight attendant asked her if she wanted to get off the plane because she is being disruptive. I am so angry and I have to sit here and wait for my child to arrive and there's absolutely nothing I can do. Knowing that the flight attendants are unkind, even cruel is breaking my heart. read more

I flew Southwest on March 8th, coming home from El Paso to LAX. I paid extra for preferred seating weeks in advance, but even so, I was placed in the last boarding group, which made absolutely no sense. Because of that, I was involuntarily made to check my bag--they just snapped at me to follow them, which I really didn't appreciate. After over an hour delay to take off and then have waited another 30 minutes for my bag. I was very late getting back. What made it even more frustrating was, as we were deplaning, two guys from boarding group 2, just a couple rows ahead, asked my row for their bags. I was so upset when I saw them laying their carry-ons sideways, taking up at least two spaces. I thought the flight attendants would check like they normally do, but this time, nothing. I filed a complaint the day I got home, and I still haven't heard back after all this and I'm quite sure I'm not the only complaint. I'm really disappointed--Southwest has always been my go-to, but with these issues--especially as they roll out the new preferred seating system--I might have to look at other airlines. I really hope they get it together and give me a voucher for the cost of my preferred seating. read more

This rating is for Southwest airlines as a whole. It is an incompetent airline when it comes to booking flights. I tried to book a roundtrip flight for my family online. On the booking page I entered my credit card information and the website said my credit card was invalid. I had just used my card on a different website not 10 minutes prior. So I tried two more cards, and it gave me an error on each of them. I was unable to book the flight. So I tried a different browser (First I used Google then I used Safari). First, there was a $45.00 price difference for the same flight from Google to Safari. Second, I had the same credit card error with three different cards. How is an airline capable of functioning if passengers can't book fares?? This airline is garbage and needs to fix its tech platform. read more

The staff was very lovely here. I had a four thirty flight but wanted to leave earlier. The flight attendant did not rush me and looked for an earlier flight for me. They could not accommodate me but did their best. Also I was able to check my bag in at 12:30 for 4:30 flight. read more

I was using the app to book a flight back from taking my daughter to another city. This was her first time leaving home and was an important event. However it happened, an error occurred and it booked the flight for two days earlier than the day I needed to fly. I didn't receive the notification that I missed the flight until the day after. I called their help line, headquarters and sent an email about the situation. None of them had the slightest understanding on how to approach this. This was their final response because it was sent through a "no-reply" email: "At this point, the unused funds associated with your outbound flight under confirmation number ******  have been forfeited and are no longer available. I realize that I won't be able to lessen your frustration over the forfeited funds, but I hope you'll consider that our no-show policy helps us predict future inventory and reduce the number of empty seats and lost revenue. By asking our Customers to cancel reservations on which they do not plan to travel, we are better equipped to protect/maintain our bags fly free and no change fees policies." So bottom line, it's about money and not people. The fact that this organization doesn't know how to approach this is completely disappointing and I and everyone I've spoken to about this thought this company was more understanding but were wrong. Why would I book a flight and not board? ... or even not contact the airline if I was going to miss it? You'd think with something like this it means something wrong happened. Now I understand they see this as just more money for them. To me I thought this organization understands how this kind of situation leads to lost paid flights. I intend to still travel to this city since my daughter now lives there... as well as other family members. But I assume now Southwest thinks I don't matter enough and that they can afford to lose someone who has always gone to Southwest first for my flights. No more. read more

They consistently have extended flight delays that develop into cancellations. Stranding you with nowhere to go and exponentially increasing the cost of this holiday trip. Never again Southwest. Everyone who worked for Southwest...from the ticket counter all the way to the stewardess that watched them on the flight were great. They answered all my freaked out mom questions. Of all the flights I've ever been on, this one, by FAR, had the most jokes surrounding an emergency scenario told by the crew over the intercom. There was even a hybrid joke that intermixed the idea of our plane going down, the film 'Sophie's Choice,' and the modern perils of raising productive members of society. And for as many inappropriate angles as were played with that joke/in-flight demonstration, I have to say, it was really f*cking funny. Like, not only was I in stitches, but at that point, the bit was so good that I don't think I even would've minded if we went down in flames. It was the perfect blend of low and high-brow humor and at least I would've went out on one last good laugh. I'd try to tell the line but it'd be very hard for me to re-create it with the same level of humor that I felt it held at time, while sitting on the plane watching the guy flail the little plastic mask thing around. But just trust me, it was great. Out flight did end up leaving a little late... as did the 5 other Southwest flights I was on this week, but somehow, each time, we always ended up landing either on time or ealier, so the pilots know to make up time and avoid any airway traffic jams. The plane was clean enough and our flight attendants (once the beginning jokes were over) got right down to biz-nast with the drinks and the peanuts and the pretzels and all that jazz. My flight from here was only an hour and 40 minutes, but it was a smooth and enjoyable one, even while landing in stormy territory. Overall, I'm a fan... though there was a few minutes before our flight where the crew was calling another passenger over the intercom to head to the gate and that passengers name was, or sounded exactly like it was, Daniela Bin Laden... so naturally it turned a few heads amongst our awaiting passenger group, but obviously ended up working out fine as I'm typing the account of it all now. read more

Out of El Paso these is the only way to fly!!! All the other airlines out of El Paso have really the small planes. The small planes out of El Paso are so rough. El Paso has really bad wind currents due to the mountains and the turbulence upon ascending and descending is a tummy twister. TIP: Don't fly on a super full stomach. You still feel it on Southwest planes but on the little 3 seats per aisle sized planes. OMG, it is so scary and I feel like a moped trying to make it up the biggest hill. That is a freaky sound on a plane. I am sorry I would rather take that hill on a big Harley than a moped. Southwest is the only ones that have the six seats across the aisle. The El Paso Harley of planes. Some people complain about the cattle call method of picking seats. I LOVE IT. I want to choose who I seat next too for two hours. I also like to seat closest to the bathroom in an aisle. The Southwest gates also are usually decorated with fun colors or seasoned themed decorations. I love looking at a little color fun while I am waiting. The customer service is top notch. They are fun and friendly. I don't think I have ever once not laughed at something funny the comedians, I mean, the stewardess/stewards have said or done. Flying is so scary because I am not in control and driving. I appreciate that they make you laugh and have a little fun. Life is too serious fly Southwest. read more

So upset. Second time this has happened returning to El Paso. My bag was damaged... ok, pain in the butt however not the big deal... Thieves stole my Wrigley Field Cubs World Series Champions shirt and Christmas gifts bought in St. Lucia for family & friends. Last time it was my NY Yankees shirt stolen returning from a different city to El Paso. When i calm down i'll attempt to call Southwest, but they have a thief or thieves working for them at ELP. I usually fly Southwest when I can get a cheap ticket and am flying with my kids. We recently took a trip and had to check baggage. The line was super long even though we were three hours early for our flight. No big deal! Waited in line for 2 hours and had to run through security to get to the gate. The person at the gate looked very pleasant and was obviously waiting for us as it was about 30 minutes from departure and most people had boarded. I was disappointed when we got on the plane because there were only middle seats left and nowhere for 3 people (myself and two kids) to sit together. I found my kids some seats close to each other and squeezed in closer to my youngest. I was so shocked when the flight attendant came on the speaker and offered a free drink to anyone that was "willing to be reseated so a mom and two children could sit together". It really wasn't a big deal to me because my kids are older and just play on their iPads during flight anyway. It was so awesome how a few people got up and we got to sit together. I really think the customer service here was superior and it was very kind of the flight attendant to make accommodations for me that I didn't even request. Heck, it was even nicer of the people who cleared a row for me and my brats!!! I will say my return flight wasn't so pleasant. Yes we got to sit together, but the flight attendants on the return flight were kind of rude and seemed really tired for a 7:00am flight! But hey, I got to and from my destination on time and comfortably so I won't deduct anymore stars!!! read more

We always fly southwest and are pretty happy most times. Today 8/13 after a crew change in St. Louis MO going to Phoenix, the new lady working the back section was soooo slow getting drinks, the rest of the plane had their drinks and they were collecting trash and our section still had not received our drinks. She was quick however to immediately come back to take our credit card to pay for the round. We needed another round and she was quick to collect the pay on that too even though another person took our order. Unfortunately we had to stay on the same plane to continue to El Paso. So we declined to purchase anything. Traveling on a crowded small plane is taxing and this made it a drag. Hopefully we won't have her next time. read more

Plenty of counters in a small regional size airport, no frills in a outdated airport that still works for its current function. When we landed, it took like 15 minutes for our bags to come out, kinda of weird considering it is such a small airport. And when we left we didn't have any hassle but I guess the routes that SWA flies in/out of ELP, it seemed like everyone was on a connecting flight unless you catch that one flight of the day. read more

Ethics are Concrete in Business Success When we think about flying and we debate airlines, generally speaking most would like to choose the cheapest or most cost efficient airline when its coming out of your own pocket. Although if business related or business paid most really don't contemplate much about the choice of airline, although customer service and experience on previous flights are taken into consideration. Working for three very large corporations in my work experience, Wells Fargo, T-Mobile, and AT&T has really broadened my thought process on customer service and experience with other large corporations. My current employer AT&T, we have a motto to live by and specific behaviors to demonstrate with our customers on a consistent basis. Although this is the goal of most successful companies, I do see how AT&T has truly instilled "extraordinary experience, with every customer, every time" in their name. Not only through the retail wireless side, but also through out the company as a whole. I have always thought of Southwest airlines to be the "BEST" because I have never had complications flying with them, and if I did they were quick to fix any problem and always with a smile and pleasurable manner, vs. anytime I have flown American Airlines I have only experienced bad service and no empathy towards the customer whatsoever. We all come to the cognizance that not everything works out according to plan, and things JUST HAPPEN, but on a corporate level of ethics, the tolerability of even thee most minute things, such as attitude are enormous when it comes to a corporation's name and credibility. A couple of days ago I flew to my hometown with Southwest and for the first time, I experienced a "not so pleasurable experience" with the flight attendants. With any question I had or request I had to make was followed by a witty sarcastic response followed by an extremely fake smile. And although I realize we all are human and have bad days, its not the customers fault to be treated rudely, especially when it comes to a more highly paid and respected organization. There is no doubt I will surely still fly Southwest, but it does make me consider other options from that one bad experience. At the end of the day, business is business, but success is undoubtedly built on the best of the best. read more

They were the exception in the greedy airline market and they had the good faith of the customers, as evidenced by their success. Well, some fares are not that reasonable anymore. This airline let a visibly sick person on my flight from Nashville to El Paso on December 21. The person could barely stand up and was leaning over into my seat the entire flight. She went through two sick bags and was coughing the entire time. The flight attendant even called me into the galley to tell me 'not to worry' that it was just motion sickness then offered me hand sanitizer. How can someone be motion sick before the plane even takes off?! I wrote to them immediately after getting off the plane and their response was I 'should have moved if I felt uncomfortable!' How about they don't let someone who is visibly ill and had obviously lied on their health form on the plane?! Why didn't the flight attendant move the sick person into and away from passengers? I contracted COVID-19 as a result of this flight. BEWARE OF SOUTHWEST!! They are not taking proper precautions to keep you safe. read more

Southwest has officially lost all business and thousands of dollars a year from someone who used to be a loyal customer. My mother has been very sick and I had to fly back home to El Paso TX to be by her side. I've also had to push my flight back more than a few times cause I just can't leave her in this state. The last change somehow changed my flight to the same day, same time. Instead of the next day. They were able to look it up but still unwilling to do anything about it. They said their no show policy states there has to be an attempt to cancel the flight. Why would someone first their flight to the same exact date and time. Next if you were sure that it was for the next day why would you attempt to cancel it. I am so dissatisfied with their customer service! I will no longer be flying Southwest and being that I have huge family and four beautiful daughters that I fly home from college three or four times a year, they are going to lose close to twenty or thirty times a two hundred dollar ticket... Thanks Southwest for having the worst customer service I have ever had to deal with! I only fly SouthWest now! I love the environment and staff! They are always so friendly and accommodating! Cheapest prices and you can't beat two free check bags either! I highly recommend SouthWest to everyone. They are family and military friendly! The staff is always full of jokes and smiles no matter the time of the flight and I love getting to pick my own seat!
