I have been a patient of Southside Pain Specialist for several years and they have always been professional and courteous to me. it is sometimes hard to get through on the phone but they are very busy . They do have a patient portal that you can use to communicate and they answer your questions and concerns as soon as they can usually in 1 business day. I have no problem with the treatment other than the long waits, but that is everywhere these days. What I do have a problem with is the filth. I have honestly never been in a filthier waiting room. It's disgusting...every chair is stained, and I don't mean just a little. And the carpet is beyond filthy. You people pull in enough money I know to have your chairs and carpet cleaned quarterly at least. I can't stand to wait for my patient inside...i go outside and wait for them to call. I've worked for and with physicians for 40 years and I would truly be embarrassed to have the office I work in be this nasty. read more

The very best in Alabama! The physians are extremely efficent. They have many treatments. I recently I had a Boston Scientific implant for severe lower back damage and this changed the quality of my life. Dr. Lumsden is very wonderful. Upon arriving patients were standing room only from wall-to-wall some patients were old and having a hard time standing up look like they were about to fall there was absolutely no where it all to park in the parking lot. Some patients had been there already for five hours me and my dad were there for four hours and 45 minutes It was 6 o'clock before we left the buildingOur appointment was two when the nurse practitioner come in he was nice enough but he was literally in the room for two minutes he then informed us when we ask the question about Anesthesia for procedures that insurance will not cover anesthesia for the shots the epidural shots anymore, but from now on, they will be using a pill that is placed under your tongue when you get a shot in your back this is utterly ridiculous and something must be going on in administration when you have over 70 people in a waiting room. read more

As I am over 50 years old and never been in trouble with the law, not even a parking ticket. But recently have been feeling like I'm either on parole or a drug addict. One urine test out of the many I've taken in almost 3 years came back " cold ". I have no idea why. How long had it been sitting since I gave it !? But on my recent visit they had someone watching me take the test. It is degrading and I feel like I committed a crime. Because of my pain and health problems I feel some kinda way. we literally sat in the office for 4 hrs. then, they didn't call in any of my husbands meds. then have called 2 times today to get them faxed in. normally, we don't have problems but last few times the wait has gotten crazy. but when someone has to take meds for nerve pain and they won't just fax it in, it's irritating. read more

Southside Pain Management, Dr. C.Goyne & Dr. Kendrick's have been amazing for my life. I could hardly walk when I started with Dr. Goyne. I can now walk without to much pain and actually be out of bed, whereas before, I was pretty much bed ridden! These doctors take the time and patients to find out every little detail about what hurt and why!!!! I cannot express into words how much they have changed my life for the better!!! They don't just hand out pain pills and such, but strive to find as many ways, as they can, to give you relief from your chronic pain so that you can have some quality of life! The Jasper location is a place you don't want to attempt to go as long as RACHEL works there!!! After not hearing from them on my referral for over a week I called to follow. I found out our referring doctor did not supply a list of info. I was told it was be easier and faster if I gathered the info for the referral so I took it upon myself to do so. This required phone calls back to the Jasper office to supply the info and follow up on requested info. After working on the info for about 2 days I receive a phone call from Rachel saying she doesn't appreciate all my phone calls. She also stated she has over 200 patients in pain therefore my mother did not take priority. She was RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL. We've went elsewhere thanks to her. I hope the doctors read these post so they know what type of employees are representing their company. read more

The doctors themselves do good work. However they do not answer the phones. So forget trying to get hold of them if you have an emergency. They do NOT have an answering service at night or on weekends. So if you have a reaction to a medicine and wind up in the ER semiconscious forget about finding out the name of the drug for two days. And they'll never call to check on you. They tell you to call them don't answer the phone. Hubby almost died. read more

I know pain management clinics see all kinds of people but I have never been one to take pain medicine. Usually Ibuprofen or Tylenol. When my back surgeon wanted me to see a doctor close to my home for a block I chose Dr. Berke because I knew him. But since I've been a patient of his I have been insulted so many times it isn't funny. I was prescribed Lortab twice a day with an occasional 3 time a day. When I came in for my appointment I told the nurse I needed it 3 times a day lately because the pain was so bad. The PA told me I was breaking the law and they could fire me. I was so shocked I didn't know what to say. On the way home I happened to have my prescription with me and looked on the bottle. It was written to be taken just like I was taking it. On another occasion I had fallen on a Saturday and split my forehead in 2 places, knocked myself out, destroyed my glasses and separated a joint in my lower back making it unbearable to walk. I missed my eye by centimeters. My face had to be glued back, I had to have X-rays to make sure I hadn't broken my hardware. Because I couldn't walk or stand the doctor wrote me a prescription to get me through the weekend because I had an appointment with Berke the following Monday. I was upfront with the ER doctor about being a pain patient. He said if there were any problems have them call him. When I signed in the following Monday I told the receptionist as I had nothing to hide and wanted to be transparent. She chewed me out and told me I was breaking the law. She expected me to keep the prescription so it could be approved. I told her in front of everyone....you can look at my face and see I am not making this up. She was so mad!! The PA didn't have a problem with it. She could tell I was hurt. Even ordered further tests. They have a patient portal and if you have an appointment coming up you can list any questions or concerns. It says the doctor won't see it until just before your appointment. Well, I had an appointment with Berke the other day and I had quite a few things listed. I didn't know if he saw it so I mentioned it. Everything but one thing was ignored. Also, I kept being asked over and over if I was taking my medicine as instructed. YES!!! I do, as a matter of fact I take it less than when I should. It makes me sick. So what do they do.....they remove the medicine from my prescriptions and don't replace it with anything. Also, sent me for a urine specimen which I gladly went to do because I have nothing to hide. I guess because the doctor has known me forever before I became a patient it's ok to put me in the storage room for procedures. The first few times I was ok with it because I know they get backed up and I was ready to get it over with (I wasn't being sedated so I knew and remember what the room looked like). Dr Goyne and the nurse practitioner were both very nice and helpful. The nurse was the rudest person I've ever met in the medical field. Her name is Lauren I believe. We were sent here after neck surgery and didn't know what to expect. We were ordered to give a urine sample, we asked politely that we would like to speak to the dr first, and she replied if you don't have anything to hide we should WANT to take the urinalysis. Very rude also while she was going over the standard questionnaire before the dr comes. She stormed out and mumbled something. I realize there people in need of pain medicine, but we were treated as pill seekers. Very insulting, and downright ridiculous she is the first person to greet us. read more

I started here and they were kind of new. Wait time is 30-90 min, depending how busy they are. I really liked Dr. Goyne, but u don't see the dr every time. Use see the nurse then usually the physician asst comes in. She did not even look at my record before she came in. Didn't know anything about me. I write this review with mixed emotions as I believe the doctors are very good and the majority of the staff is hospitable. I recently moved to Alabama and had to find new doctors to manage my chronic pain. I did due diligence in researching practices, and understanding my health insurance fully, I selected this in-network provider. I specifically selected this practice based on the work of the doctors and because they are in network providers. The Southside Pain website indicates my insurance is accepted. All of my visits have been billed as in-network, with the exception of my recent procedures. While my medical procedures were done in their facility, I was very shocked when I received notification from my health insurance company that the Southside Pain Anesthesiologist is out of network. Why not tell patients that your Anesthesiologist is not in network prior to a procedure? I expected my doctor to perform the procedure not an out-of-network doctor. Why keep this information hidden from your patients? Dr. Gordon is listed on the website and the website indicates that my insurance is accepted. When I called the office to question the charges, the billing specialist was not helpful and extrememly rude. My health insurance company also called to see if the bill was submitted incorrectly. They also stated that the billng rep at Southside was very argumentative. Your administrative staff provides plenty of paperwork for patients to sign, why keep this information disclosed? As a coutersy to your patients please be transparent as much as you can. It would really help us. You can post a sign in the office as you have done to remind us to pay first, you can add an additional piece of paperwork to the new patient forms or place a note under Dr. Gordon's name on your website indicating he is not considered in-network for all insurance carriers listed...whatever you do, honest open communication is essential and appreciated. Surprise billing is not allowed in many states for a reason as it is an unfair practice. Unfortunately, I will be searching for a new practice as I am truly disappointed. read more
