The Kirklin Clinic delivers high quality care. It's the parking. Insanely bad design makes the place a disaster.

Pro tips: Valet the car! Arrive early if you need a wheelchair. It takes some time. There is a coffee cart on level two, that closes by 4pm. We came for a surgery consult. All the staff, from valet, patient transport, check in and docs.... All kind, compassionate. I feel like they each care about the patient needs and outcomes. I also found the space to be very calming. Which was super helpful. The bright light streaming in. The facility was also very clean!! Which I find to be indicative of quality of care. read more

Amazing Place!!! Doctors and Staff are very thorough with Patients!!! Although a huge Facility, it's fairly easy to navigate!!!

The Doctors are nice but the medical receptionist and nurses in the Neurology Kirklin Clinic are rude, obnoxious, and lazy. My mom is in a wheelchair and she was trying to pay her co pay but was being ignored by the receptionist who was talking about personal issues to a co worker. She was also racist to us for speaking Spanish and made racist remarks to the interpreter. You hire your people off the streets and it shows! Hire better administrative staff!! read more

If you need to be seen by a doctor, might as well go to the Kirklin clinic. One stop shop, as you would say. Lab work completed on the premises an hour before an appointment makes for a well informed appointment. Easier communication between the physician and the patient. The only drawback is parking. Parking is always a problem in the city of Birmingham on a weekday. read more

My 34 year old daughter has been diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis secondary to non-specific interstitial pneumonitis. She was seeking treatment help at Kirklin Clinic at UAB & was treated so poorly & disrespectfully that she will never return. It is a shame the medical community can be so disrespectful of a young woman who knows her own body & is not heard when expressing concerns about treatment. She has been dealing with this life altering disease for over 10 years & understands her limitations concerning medications to prevent her from landing in the hospital. The personnel at this clinic treated her as if she was just another cash cow with no regard for her individual situation. This was her second visit. She was treated the same on her 1st visit but chalked that up to COVID & overworked personnel so she was willing to give them another try. This time there is no excuse. I would NEVER recommend this lung clinic. read more

Appointment with dr Elmet, last visit was in a different location. We went a few blocks looking for parking, we decided to do the pay to park. The Valet parking attendant was sweet, he had quite a bit of humor.... the sitting area was very warming, quite which is what I like. Soothing music playing while you wait. Love the exam table display your weight while sitting down.. not like the conventional scale, I hate looking at those numbers steadily going up, lol. As a UAB employee, Kirklin Clinic is the best thing an employee could ever dream of! Within walking distance to most of campus, Kirklin Clinic is really a one stop shop for any doctor/medical procedure you could need. This review is not of my physicians (which are awesome, BTW), but more of parking, facilities, etc. Parking can sometimes be hassle. Actually, it's always a struggle any time of day, but being so close, I will sometimes walk instead. There are food options available, which is nice for family/friends coming with a patient to an appointment, or for folks that are required to fast for bloodwork, but need to pick something up before they leave the building. Never encountered a non-friendly person. Usually greeted when I first walk in and am asked if I need any help. It's easy to get lost in such a large health system, but floors, departments, etc. are clearly labeled and if you can't find something, ask! read more

Took my girlfriend here the other day for an appointment. I had never been here before and was kinda taken aback by how huge and nice of a place we were in. It was not what I was expecting. We were seen promptly. Staff was courteous to us, and most importantly, I felt like they cared about the patients and patient's families. They went out of their way to help us several times while we were there. Plenty of dining options for those having to stay at the clinic for a while. Parking wasn't horrible. I wish there had been better Wifi for those of us sitting in the waiting room, or the ability to change the TV channel off of a Spanish soap opera. When we saw the staff, it was never the right time to ask them if we could change it. Overall, a very good experience. I'll be checking and seeing if my insurance will let me come here for any future needs. read more

I had a liver transplant here 10 yrs ago. I go back annually for a check up. My experience has always been good. The staff are friendly and helpful. My post-transplant experience has been wonderful. Tulane turn me down and didn't tell me I could try another program. Glad I found out about UAB. 5 stars. read more

Dr. Heslin and team have been tremendously helpful and quick. They were quick to diagnose and treat my daughters tumor. Multiple test were done to confirm and rule out and once there was consistency in the results, we had a diagnosis. The plan was detailed with t's crossed and i's dotted. Even up to surgery day this surgery oncology team has been great! I dare not ask for a better team. We appreciate all that has been done. My daughter is grateful for how quickly this team moved to rid her body of this tumor. Thank You UAB Kirklin. From the parking team, to the lab, to the techs and admin team then to the staff! There are two dangerous words in my opinion. Those two words are NEVER and ALWAYS. More specifically to point that I always said I would never review a doctor or a medical facility because the parameters are just too complicated. Medical treatment of any kind is a very emotional type of thing. Let's face the facts. If and when you find yourself going to a doctor or to a medical facility you are probably not in really great shape when you either decided or were forced to go. When you enter the confines of a hospital you are basically admitting to some extent that you are in fact in a general way "pretty bad shape" or you are going to die or you are sick as hell and maybe you feel like dying. And in order to be a consumer of modern medical products and services (yes, I said "consumer of products"), just like ANYTHING else in this world. It is imperative that YOU know to a great extent what you are doing AND why you are doing it personally beyond what the doctors might say. And you MUST take care of yourself the best way you know how to do it beyond using medical care as the only form of health care. And you SHOULD get a second opinion if possible and you SHOULD feel comfortable with your health care doctors or specialists. I took my dad to this facility and I have nothing to say but good things about it. He is a cancer survivor and he was made to feel comfortable and they were good enough to answer all of his questions. There are A LOT of people who go to this facility from all over a 4 state area so there MUST be a reason for that right? Yes, the waiting took forever and yes we had to repeat intake information which was double checked for what seemed to be a thousand times over but I believe that this is the type of thorough attention to detail we would all want for ourselves or our loved ones. Right? My dad is a guy who does do all the right things and it is my job as his son to help him when he needs it. He tries to take care of himself doing all of the moderately sensible things without going to extremes and taking into consideration things like "quality of life versus quantity" and what types of daily enjoyments, behaviors or habits should be moderated or even eliminated based on the changing nature of that sometimes nebulous thing called "personal health". Getting medical attention for oneself or a loved one can be a truly daunting thing at times weighed against personal emotions like fear or anxiety. But this facility was a one stop shop where referrals to different specialist were ALL within the same building. The 6 or 7 floors is an outpatient facility with the UAB hospital right next door if needed in an emergency. Blood work, lab work, x-rays, MRI's and every kind of specialist for nearly every kind of literal body part or functional organ system can all happen in the same place. It's a one stop shop for everything. Dermatologists, orthopedic surgeons, ENT specialists, Radiologists, Urology. Neurology, etc are all in the same place. They even have a discount for parking in the parking deck but you have to get your ticket stamped at the Kirklin Clinic. If you are bringing your parent for the day the only outside problem which may exist is that there are not many food choices within easy walking distance after parking. Not a problem for me at all but it was for my dad in the heat and with the distances. I also did my research (as any consumer should) before taking my dad to Kirklin Clinic. UAB the University of Alabama at Birmingham was listed as the best regional medical facility by U.S. World and News Reports and has several awards among various medical disciplines. i can't recommend a medical facility because I am not a doctor NOR do I play one on television but on a personal note as an educated consumer I can certainly advise that if you need help that this is a medical facility that you should definitely add to your list of possible solutions for your medical interventions and ongoing health care needs. Nobody wants to end up in the unfortunate position of needing medical assistance but this is a place that may be able to help in most all non-emergency or outpatient circumstances. Saw a very sad scene there today on the second floor where you drop off and pickup. We were waiting on a wheelchair for my mother-in-law when a lady using a walker and a lady with her came in. The lady with the walker lost her balance and fell nearly hitting a metal fan sitting on the floor, on high speed. The two Kirkland Clinic Workers by the door making sure everyone had on mask and was eligible to go in just stood there (one was sitting on a stool). They did not offer to help the lady up at all. The one sitting just yelled, "Do you want a nurse?" Several people coming in helped the lady up. The one with her took her to the restroom. I went to use the restroom moments later and the lady with her told me not to bother to come in because there was no toilet paper. I don't understand UAB! It's an unclean an uncaring place! It's definitely not a safe place with the metal fan there. I hate to think what could have happened if the lady's head would've hit it. read more

I am currently recovering from a procedure I had at the Kirklin Clinic yesterday. I have a rare intestinal disorder and I happened to find my doctor at the Kirklin Clinic and he just so happens to be a specialist and researcher in my particular disorder. How lucky am I? Anyway, yesterday I had to have a procedure and I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Mannon or his staff. They are nice, accommodating and made me feel at ease. My wait was minimal and they made sure I had everything I needed. Another thing that is extremely important to me is cleanliness, and they are textbook when it comes to sanitizing and hand washing. You'd be surprised how many places don't value hand washing, but they give you a hand washing survey to grade the docs and nurses to make sure that you get quality care. The building is beautiful and all of the information attendants are friendly and extremely helpful. Love the Kirklin Clinic! read more

I had a chemical cardiac stress test there in December 2021. I thought the staff there was very unprofessional. They were discussing at my bedside how one particular NP who worked there sent all her patients to the ER. She loved to push atropine which increased their heart rate ,resulting in them having to be transferred to the ER.They said her name was Heather. I found this frightening to have to hear during my test and very disturbing that they were discussing this at my bedside and laughing about it to boot. It caused me great stress and I doubted their ability to perform my test. I thought this was very unprofessional considering, I am in the healthcare field and knew what they were talking about. I would not want to have any other test done there. read more

I have ended up with 2 physicians at UAB & see them at the Kirklin ClInic. This is a great facility, with excellent healthcare providers & other staff. I am a patient at both the memory & urology clinics. I drive this distance (100 miles) because I feel the care is better than non-UAB physicians. The facility is very clean & well maintained. They are committed to keeping wait times to a minimum, & this is unlike any other physician office I've been to. Parking: It's a bit of a long walk, but they do have valet parking in their deck. The price is very reasonable to park. I would highly recommend the Kirklin Clinic. read more

I live in Nashville, TN and since my Urologist is retiring I chose to go to The Kirkland Clinic because of their top ratings. However, I have been very disappointed as after I scheduled an initial appointment to see a Urogynecologist their scheduling office has called 6 times to reschedule my appointment. They keep telling me the doctor forgot she has a scheduled conference, etc... This is ridiculous! It took me a year to get in to see Dr. Richter. What they are doing to me is something I know they wouldn't approve themselves. It's simply a "cat and mouse" game with them. The scheduling office will call me to schedule an appointment knowing full well they will be calling me to reschedule right before my appointment. They are disgraceful and should be shut down. read more

UAB cardiology clinic Specifically Dr. Suzanne Oparil and Dr. dudenbocker her fellow are the most condescending arrogant physicians. If you have typical hypertension that is an easy fix they are fine but if you have Atypical symptoms that may require more than 60 seconds of a conversation then find a different Doctor. They do not want to see you. If you need referrals to other departments the communication and follow up is sub par or non existent.There is no accountability with these doctors and patient care. No one to advocate for these patients. Some one needs to look into how they are treating patients and the lack of follow up. Insurance companies should not reimburse for this poor quality of care. read more

My father received a liver transplant with UAB in March 2019. My father had been critically ill for over 2 years when we met a liver specialist in Mobile who worked with UAB for many years. We met with nurses, surgeons, coordinators and so many more. The care my father received from EVERYONE we came in contact with was so amazing and reassuring. I cannot Thank UAB and ALL staff enough for what they restored and have given back to our family. My father is now 9 months post transplant and do very well. I and my family Not only Thank each and every one of you, but God as well for allowing you to be the caretakers for so many in similar situations. May God Bless Each one of You!! read more

Staff and physicians overall great. Parking is terrible with frequent traffic jams in the deck. On one recent visit, it took 45 minutes to get out--that is not an exaggeration. One day this week it took 15 minutes, and I was on the second floor of the deck, close to the exit. read more

KC provides all major medical specialties with state of the art testing support. The physicians are tops and have to be in order to be employed with UAB Hospital System- a major research hospital. Being a senior, I currently use three different specialists here and have been attending for 10+ years. Because I live two hours away All staff members have been so helpful in arranging convenient appointments/testing times. Lastly, wait times are usually much shorter than I experience with my doctors at home who seem to give many patients the same appointment time, It is so frustrating to find after waiting an unusually long time that several of us have the same appointment time. I don't ever remember being called over 30 minutes beyond the appointed time. My average wait time has been 10-15 minutes. read more

Throughout some recent health problems, all I have heard about is how great the doctors are at uab. Well, Since I am not getting any better, I bit the bullet and travelled about 150 miles one way to see one of these great drs, with the understanding that someone would try to get to the bottom of my problem. Well guess what? This place is more like a mall than a hospital. They shuffle people around like cattle, and then when I finally got to see the dr, I was treated like this was a routine checkup for my high blood pressure. She put me back on meds that my other dr just stopped because they WERENT WORKING. Didnt seem to matter, she didnt listen to anything I had to say. Then they couldnt do any tests today, I need to come back in 3-4 months for those. I sure hope I dont die before then. THANKS FOR NOTHING FOLKS! You wasted my time and money, for nothing. read more

This is a negative review for a pulmonologist named Dr. Belopolsky at the Kirklin Center which is associated with the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama. I am a 62 year old woman who has recently had a Clark's ll melanoma removed from my arm and who almost simultaneously learned from what I thought was an unrelated CT scan that I have three small nodules on my right lung. The radiologist and my local oncologist advised that I wait three months before having a second CT scan to see if the nodules have grown. Before accepting the three-month wait that was recommended, I wanted a second opinion so I used the UAB website and clicked on 'second opinions and appointments.' I spoke with a registered nurse who said her best judgment for the second opinion was a pulmonologist and she helped me set up an appointment with Dr. Belopolsky for September 13, 2012. My sister accompanied me. We are in total agreement that it was the doctor's appointment from hell. Dr. Belopolsky never once looked at me. He read papers during the entire consultation. If I asked a question, he either cut me off in the middle or ridiculed the question. I had taken the test results of prior spirometry tests done by my allergy/asthma doctor and Dr. Belopolsky shook them at me and told me they were garbage. He told me (without looking up from the papers he was reading) I have a 50-50 chance that the lung nodules are malignant and if they're malignant they are fatal. I asked on what information he was basing the 50-50 prediction and he said (again without looking up) there's a computer model for such predictions, did I want him to show me? I said yes. He banged angrily on his keyboard and then announced that his computer was too slow and he didn't have time to wait for it. This was the tenor and tone of the entire consultation. My sister and I finally walked out on him. I wish I had been able to film the whole consultation and put it on You Tube because words don't do it justice. If anyone ever tries to set you up an appointment with a Dr. Belopolsky at the Kirklin Clinic in Birmingham, AL, decline and ask for someone else. Anyone else. read more

I am writing this review not because I have any complaints with Kirklin Clinic or Dr Sung who my husband sees. I am writing this review because when my husband had his last visit not only did they charge to see the doctor but they also charged 280dollars because UAB hospital has bought the clinic. I guess that pays for opening the door, riding the elevator, using the waiting room and talking to the receptionist. They made this decision in March. My husband had not been since last Nov. I think this is wrong, it is gouging the patient. Although my husband has medicare and BC/BS we had no out of pocket cost, I am thinking about the other people who may not have insurance or insurance that will not cover everything. This makes me very angry. The only way to avoid this is to see a doctor who is not associated with UAB. But my husband has Parkinson's and we are very happy with his doctor. I will not change but I hope other people complain and maybe this gouging will be stopped. read more
