According to bizjournal the average wait time is less than an hour... I've been here in pain for 4 hours and still waiting...

I couldn't resist! Service seem good when you can be served but I've been there for over 4 hours; in pain, and still waiting. Don't know whats going on but not many people were here and waiting that long is really beyond understanding! I just want to give a heads up; you ever come here, the wait time is far worst than what bizjournal proclaimed. Maybe the service will make up for it cause good insurance doesn't!!!

This was the worst hospital and care I have ever seen. My husband came in on a backboard and neck brace. They ordered a CT scan upon getting there. It took three hours for results. Then they ordered and MRI. Two more hours for results. Then they ordered an X-Ray... still waiting three hours after that for results. Like what?! Backwards healthcare if you can call it care. They left him there without any nurse to even ask how he was doing or feeling for 10 hours. Oh we are still here and counting. This place is a mess too. The whole area is max capacity and disgusting. Medicine has no key control and has been dropped on the ground. People are not cleaning pic lines before adding meds. Cords and wires are running in an unsafe manner all over. There is just stuff everywhere in here it's a hazard. Worst hospital ever... just breeding other garbage healthcare workers.

Wife was in the trauma unit after a cat accident, the staff here was amazing!!! Knew our nurses names after 4 days and will actually miss them. They took such amazing care of her, she was in pain but upbeat and being around the amazing staff really helped!

If you go in for simple procedure and come out with sciatica, paralysis and chronic denervation, lesions on your spinal cord, losing your peripheral vision, incontinence, drop foot and now torn ligaments from the drop foot, and a spot on your pupil and eyelid that could've been caused from the fluoroscopy machine and more, and the doctor tells you to let them do test and fix it, well they did test for almost 2 years, so you can't find a lawyer because of statutory limitations, Go ahead and look for a lawyer, don't wait cause I had to file a lawsuit myself still waiting on a lawyer because waiting too long it's hard to get a lawyer and you can see here they tried to cover it up, because they messed all the paper work up, I had a cervical epidural I was laying prone on the table, they gave me sedation ,but when they stuck the needle in I felt the worst pain ever I felt it go through my whole body with a vibration feel, and i raised up into the needle, my blood pressure dropped, my respiratory rate dropped, my Oxygen dropped, my heart rate dropped, but my ETCO2 was high which leads to hyperventilating and Respiratory Arrest, and i know i was hyperventilating when that needle hit something, so we got my medical records and they state that they prepped my lumbar not my cervical so i had 2 shots except the cervical wasn't numbed, and I signed for a specific doctor to do the procedure but another one did it, and they knew something was going to be wrong because they gave me extra medicine and sent me home with all that extra sedation in me so I wouldn't be there when the symptoms started, but I was sick, throwing up, and had a bad headache and they tried to cover it up, by putting on my discharge papers that my vitals were back to normal the same as when I got there , Blood pressure 107/70, Oxygen 100% Respiratory 20, which I knew wasn't right because everyone said I was a stumbling zombie, so I had it checked twice after we left and it was 92/50 and a few hours after that it was 90/50, but on the medical records vitals chart when I was discharged it said my vitals were Blood pressure 94/55, Oxygen 94%, I'm thinking it may be criminal to put the wrong vitals down thinking it would be overlooked since that's all that will be in your patient portal, waiting to see if this lawyer can take the case since they don't have much time to check into it, then if it's too late, for him to help, I figure go public on live tv, to caution people but I have to wait on them to go over my medical report to make sure everything I'm saying is correct before I can on the news, then report to the insurance why they had to pay and will be paying the rest of my life, on doctor visits for this, from negligence that could've been prevented. And also what they have to pay when i lose my vision. I'm leaving my number so if you have had something like this happen to you, and you have proof in your medical records, and you would like to help get the word out call, people wouldn't get mad and look for lawyers if they would say I'm so sorry this happened to you, but i guess that doesn't happen around here, 256-496-1300 Also the fluoroscopy only has 2 images and the reports said no results.

Thank y'all for taking such great care of her! I would specifically like to thank the folks who work in the food service part of the hospital. Hospital food is usually super bland and texturally horrible. I don't know who's cooking at St. Vincent's but the food that came for all 4 meals she was served was spectacular! The first meal was teriyaki chicken with real fresh grilled pineapple and sautéed or steamed FRESH vegetables. The second meal was tender beef tips with gravy over perfectly cooked and seasoned rice along with...again, FRESH cauliflower that had been steamed or roasted and was perfectly seasoned. Before we left the next day, the lovely food service staff brought a delicious homemade beef ziti with a delicious tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese paired with again, FRESH mixed vegetables. All the food had great texture and was perfectly seasoned. As the owner of a catering business, I know how difficult it is to do this with large format cooking. Y'all did an excellent job!! And, yes...I was not the patient, but my sister did share her meals with me because she was also amazed at how great the food was! GREAT JOB!

I said need to use the restroom he showed me where it was, and I never saw him again my entire stay. After using the restroom, now I'm here by myself waiting on my family to arrive. I go sit down on the bed, my family comes walking in, they come over to the bed where I was sitting, and we embrace one another. Shortly after that a RN walks in by the name of Suzan on 5 west, with her student, and greets me. Suzan ask for a list of my medications, allergy, then she asked me what I take for pain? I said Tylenol her response that's all you take for pain, me yes, then she said if you need something for pain that's the only thing that you will take, me yes! I didn't state why I was rushed to the hospital, because I had fluid around my heart. Then Suzan asked me to count backwards 20-1, I said for what, she repeated herself so I went on and did it next I need you to say the month of the year backwards, me for what? I never mentioned my age, I am 66 years old in good shape work out five days a week sharp mind , and this bully nurse is messing with me. I have congestion heart from chemotherapy 23 years ago, not from mistreating my body. Then Suzan tells me she need check your skin, I say for what? Her response was nothing. The next thing I know Suzan pick up the phone, and ask a nurse to come down to the room, because she need to check my skin. When the nurse comes in the room we speak, and she says I know you, and I say I know you. Then she said I put your iv in the last time you was here, me you sure did. Then she said how nice I am, I said thank you. Then Suzan say to the other nurse I need you to go on the other side of the bed, and said to me I need you to turn over on your side, me for what? I need to check your skin, now she looked at my legs, and nothing wrong with them now I need to turn over on my side. Suzan yes, and do you want these people to leave out the room, me no the majority of them have the same them I have, but one person, and he seen all of it. So I turn over on my size and this bully nurse Suzan pull down my panties, and look at my butt, I think no you didn't just violated me you are some kinda freak to me. Reminder I am 66 year old with good skin. I have had some many surgeries at St Vincent Southside, and no nurse or doctor have ever ask me to turn over so I can pull your panties down, and check your skin. I mention earlier I gave a a list of my medications, and I mentioned to her when I take my medication. Suzan didn't realize she was dealing with a grown woman, that handles her own business. Suzan decides to change how I take my medication, and I stated that not when I take my medications. Suzan you are today, what? Suzan yes, me I can't take this medication on an empty stomach. Suzan yes you will, me no I'm not I know what's going to happen, Suzan say we have some graham crackers, and saltine crackers, I stated I don't eat that, Bully Suzan says that's all we have so I said ok. I eat a few graham crackers, and Suzan gave me the medicine, but check this out she gave me a pill that I am allergic to. When I told her that she said that's what the pharmacy sent up, but I told you I am allergic to that pill, well what's going to happen? I will break in a rash, and hives. Suzan I will order you some Benadryl. After taking the Benadryl Suzan asked me if i need to be resuscitate, would I like to have that done? Now listen to my response. No! Do not resuscitate me. Suzan says you want DNR, me yes! I stated it's in my will. Then the bully come out again in her, and this is what Suzan states if it's in your will we need a copy of it, she really thought I was a stone fool if she thought I would ask my husband to go home, and get my will for her to look over, not going to happen on my watch I just stared at her, and said this time is the only time I am willing to let that happen. There's no reason for her to see my will. When you check in the hospital for and surgery they ask you do you have a living will, and you answer yes they check a box on the paper, not say we need to see your will. I guess Suzan thought this was my first rodeo, wrong. Just my first time on your floor! The foolishness continues with this nurse, she very unprofessional. Then she have her student to give me a ekg. Now I'm constantly coughing, and this student wants me to lie flat on my back, and take this test. I said may I sit up, student I need you you flat, me I take ekg sitting up all the time. So I lie down, and this student didn't know what's she was doing, and I am coughing about to choke, and my sister stepped in, and said hold up now you see she coughing, now press that button. The next day Suzan starved me until 4:30 pm. Lied and said I had fallen, was very rude to me,

He was kept sedated for the first few weeks. A family member was at his side 24/7. During this time no mention was made of a pressure wound. No adjustments were made regularly to prevent pressure wounds. By the time it was brought to my attention that there was a sore it has become quite severe. I have no complaints about the nurses themselves. They are overworked and unappreciated. The problem as I see it was a lack of consistency in the care of the wound. It should be well known what steps are taken in caring for each patients wound. This was NEVER the case. Because of this his wound received different and at times even no care. I believe arrogance of doctors and heads of departments played a major role in this. Looking to your own ego instead of the patient as an individual deserving your best care and attention is wrong. My son was strong enough that his body overcame the health problems that resulted in his hospitalization. He was not strong enough to overcome the stage four pressure wound.

I know that UAB is not the first hospital that comes to mind when thinking about where to deliver your baby in Birmingham, but it was a no brainer for me. Being connected to Children's Hospital brought a piece of mind had my daughter needed those services. In addition, UAB is the only hospital in the state with high-risk maternal and fetal physicians available in-house 24/7 and the only Maternity Evaluation Unit. I want to give a special shout out to the lactation services, and specifically Barbara. She has been instrumental in helping me with this feeding journey. Even 8 weeks postpartum I'm able to call to ask questions or come in for weighted feedings. 10/10 would recommend UAB!
