The catheter he sent me home with!

Doctor Rodriguez is a know it all that doesn't take into account all the extenuating circumstances behind medication and then takes you off medication that you've been on for years that throws you into instant withdrawal. He almost killed me taking me off of my small dose of clonzepam! On top of that, he told my mother that I had an overdose whenever that was the furthest from the truth I just simply taken my Seroquel before I went to the hospital therefore, I see out of it that I had overdose, especially my mother - that's a HIPPA violation! I can't believe this doctor still has a license it is INSANE! Not to mention the food was simply inedible. Worst type of care ever!

The pictures below are what you get when you are discharged. Along with that you get a print out from WebMD on general care. Drove three hours to have a surgery scheduled with Dr. Beckham and it was a nightmare. One of his pupils repaired a fissure after diverticulitis and 2 months of no bowel movements that left me resorting to ERs up north not doing anything to help until at near month three all the laxatives started working and the fissure formed with two large hemorrhoids. After Dr. Conner repaired the fissure and five umbilical hernias from being impacted and straining i was referred to Dr. Beckham to see where my bleeding was coming from. Turns out the fissure had an abscess form that his former student missed. I asked to stay overnight after the surgery because I have problems with my bowels after anesthesia. I was four weeks off my hernia repair and this was told to Dr. Beckham and Anesthesia when they came into preop. I also have long term chronic pain treated with opiates and I asked to have a nerve block so I would have to rely on the opiates for pain relief. I stressed this because they severely constipated me causing all these surgeries. The nerve block would also help in healing but no one knew how to do it. Literally what anesthesiologists are trained to do but no luck. So, I arrive in the OR see the large orange gummies they say I'm going to be laid face down on and I said I just had hernia surgery but they didn't listen or care. FFW to the recovery room, my left and right side are in pain as well as my lower chest, and my throat is all scratched up, my tongue looks like I chewed on it, my jaws are killing me and it's no big deal to them. Except I've never had a breathing tube and felt so bad afterwards. About two hours after I was in the room the pain really set in and I asked for something to help with the pain. My left flank was and is still constantly hurting with spikes in pain after using the bathroom or eating. None of my meds are called in to be given except for a couple pain meds. I stayed miserable all night in pain because the opiates don't work anymore. Hence why I asked for the nerve block, but they do dull it a little so something is better than nothing. I voice concerns I'm not able to pee, ask for some flomax, and it takes till the next day to get it. I start feeling constipated and when I finally get the doctor there, "it's your fault if the opiates constipated you, you shouldn't have asked for them," RIGHT I SHOULD JUST SIT IN MORE MISERY BECAUSE YOU REFUSED A NERVE BLOCK IN FAVOR OF GIVING ME OPIATES! I WAS DISCHARGED STILL HAVING CHEST PAIN, SIDE HURTING, TESTICLES FEELING LIKE THEY ARE BEING KICKED AND NO ONE WALKED ME OR WHEELED ME OUT OF THE HOSPITAL. ( Remember when you thought it was silly they had to wheel you out? Yea that is every single hospitals policy because if you hurt yourself they are liable.) I will see him for a follow up in two weeks and then never again. I didn't mention i had an accident in the bed they left me sitting in for over twenty minutes. All out terrible experience and doctors who don't read charts or listen to patients. If you use them just do as they say and don't say a word. That's how they like it. Update: The person that wanted me to reply gave me the "we reviewed the case and nothing changes." This is what they do, you get subpar care and get a sorry we did that conversation back. This type of care is why so many people fear getting care, and hospitals and providers get away with it. They know when they screw up it doesn't matter because nothing happens, no repercussions are imposed to correct their behavior and make sure appropriate care is given. The night before I drove home after being discharged I had a reaction that developed late and caused my throat and breathing to close to the point I had to get out of bed and find an urgent care which took me in quickly and gave me an epi injection just from looking at me they Knew I was having a reaction. I am also running a fever, and my surgical site is draining yellowish liquid and blood, which means I probably have an infection. I was given antibiotics during surgery for the infection the surgeon was draining but not even a low dose course to make sure it didn't come back quickly. My primary care doctor is working me in tomorrow morning and having the practices general surgeon look me over. I called my doctors office and left a message after hours and my PCP called me back personally. My pain management doctor is also working me in tomorrow to give me an injection to help manage the pain in my lower extremities so I don't have to take constipating pain meds and to get me to a more invasive procedure for long term relief. This is how medical care is supposed to be, not the kind you get where you are an inconvenience to be delt with quickly. P.S. Any one from this company who wants to respond, just don't, I know you don't care.

The staff is very nice. Very clean. Quality care for patients and the family. Very good medical care from the nurses and staff that we interacted with

He was kept sedated for the first few weeks. A family member was at his side 24/7. During this time no mention was made of a pressure wound. No adjustments were made regularly to prevent pressure wounds. By the time it was brought to my attention that there was a sore it has become quite severe. I have no complaints about the nurses themselves. They are overworked and unappreciated. The problem as I see it was a lack of consistency in the care of the wound. It should be well known what steps are taken in caring for each patients wound. This was NEVER the case. Because of this his wound received different and at times even no care. I believe arrogance of doctors and heads of departments played a major role in this. Looking to your own ego instead of the patient as an individual deserving your best care and attention is wrong. My son was strong enough that his body overcame the health problems that resulted in his hospitalization. He was not strong enough to overcome the stage four pressure wound.

The food court has several stations, including a salad bar, meat-and-three, sandwiches, and of course, the pizza bar. Everything looked clean and organized, even the salad bar, which can sometimes get messy after a lunch rush. There were four or five cashiers working, so the line moved quickly, and they accept both cash and major credit cards. Their most recent inspection in November 2025 gave them a score of 90. The only issues noted were that the cheese on the salad bar and the pre-made sandwiches were slightly out of safe temperature range. One suggestion would be to add a dessert bar for a sweet treat fix. Overall, it was a smooth experience and a great option if you want a fast, satisfying bite while you're at the hospital.

The cafeteria has a wide variety of options, which is nice whether you are there all day for work, class, or visiting someone in the hospital. There were multiple stations including hot meals, grill items, salad options, and grab and go choices, which made it easy to find something that fit what I was in the mood for. I ordered a hot plate with a protein, vegetables, and a side, and the food tasted fresh and well prepared. The portion size was reasonable and filling without being overwhelming. The cafeteria itself was clean and well organized, especially considering how busy the hospital can be. The atmosphere felt calm for the most part, though it did get a little loud during peak lunch hours. Service was efficient and staff moved the line quickly, which I appreciated since many people are on tight schedules. While it is still cafeteria food, the quality and variety make it a reliable option. I would definitely eat here again if I am on campus or at the hospital for an extended period of time.

I recently delivered my first baby at UAB and was very pleased and satisfied with the services received. The doctors, nurses, technicians, lactation specialists, and everyone else that I saw during my stay were excellent. I know that UAB is not the first hospital that comes to mind when thinking about where to deliver your baby in Birmingham, but it was a no brainer for me. Being connected to Children's Hospital brought a piece of mind had my daughter needed those services. In addition, UAB is the only hospital in the state with high-risk maternal and fetal physicians available in-house 24/7 and the only Maternity Evaluation Unit. I want to give a special shout out to the lactation services, and specifically Barbara. She has been instrumental in helping me with this feeding journey. Even 8 weeks postpartum I'm able to call to ask questions or come in for weighted feedings. 10/10 would recommend UAB!
