Decent Mall, it's good to still have one in the East Bay!! I usually get some good deals in JC Pennys, that might be the largest store in this mall along with Macys! There's a food court and movie theater downstairs. This mall isn't huge, decent sized to me. Sears used to be major in this mall, it even had auto center there. I remember getting tires put on there back in the day. Now it's gone, along with a lot of other stores. But there are still plenty of stores here, enough to keep this like a real Mall. And I always liked the location, right off of the 880 freeway in Hayward, very easy to get to!!! read more

Southland Mall used to be the place to hangout, shop with its wide variety of stores, big department stores, local arts and craft vendors, aviaries, water features, World's Fare Dining (food court), ice skating rink and arcade along with bumper cars downstairs! Oh and let's not forget Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour! Uh yeah, I'm dating myself... BIT of HISTORY: Claimed as the West's Largest Climate-Conditioned retail development in 1957. The progressive Mid-Century shopping center was designed by the acclaimed architecture firm John Graham & Associates, known for projects as Seattle's Space Needle A shopping mall you wanted to hang out and stay awhile but with changing demographic, online commerce and sadly, crime it has evolved into what it is now. Just a shell of what it once was with a couple of stores I'd go for a quick visit. When in the area, I'll get a 15-min Chinese acupressure chair massage (Round One entrance). Extra star for the great memories of working at the mall (making friends) and learning what good customer service is compared to now. Open 7 days a week from 11am to 6pm, 7pm, or 8pm. Plenty of parking, as they rarely have any customers. Well people still come here for the movies. Great mall. Quiet and clean. Lots of shops and food great variety of stores for its small size, including several footwear options. It also features a food court with a diverse selection of dishes, and offers convenient interior access to Hobby Lobby and Round. Service is great. Southland Mall is getting better. They need more stores though. It cleaned up well compared to back in the days. Good spot to shop and eat.

This mall felt like a fever dream almost. It was really crowded for the amount of stores there. I didn't really see the appeal for this mall. They have some anchor stores but there's not a huge selection. The food court was selective. I believe there were 7 restaurants? Might be wrong. We ended up eating at this really yummy place called, "Seafood Grill". The bathrooms were an experience. 3 stalls and one didn't close, one had throw up on the floor, and the other just looked ran through. Then neither of the 3 sinks had soap in them. All in all, I wouldn't go out of my way to come to this mall. I think i'd rather drive a bit more to get more out of my shopping day. read more

BRUH, never a good sign when you enter a mall and then it smells like OPEN RAW SEWAGE and then another mall goer says that there is an ACTIVE shooter and then there are some zoomers playing around with some toy guns getting escorted around by security. To top it off the restrooms were disgusting and also another group of zoomers doing some of the loud in there, but alas, aside from ghetto-ness and some trash on the floor, the mall was just alright. It was bustling, so not as dead as some of the other malls that I've been to. There's an H&M, BBW, Hobby Lobby, and Round One at least. Pretty packed at night even when everything is closing up. I visited this mall for the first time with my mom, recommended by my sister. This mall is a complete ghost town. Even the food court was empty. The only active places here would have to be the arcade/bowling place. Overall there are better malls elsewhere. read more

I went to a store called Fragrance Shop. I got a Cologne, YSL Edu parfume Intense. It doesn't smell bad but it doesn't Last long at all, maybe like a hour or two. I don't think they gave me the real version of the Cologne. I am pissed because I paid $187 for that Cologne. Do not recommend to buy Cologne or Perfume from that store. read more

I feel like that this mall is a good place to stop by at certain stores and then leave afterwards. It's not really a place to walk around and hangout with people. At least they have Round1, but this place needs a complete renovation based on its atmosphere. It just feels empty there. There is a food court under the mall, but rarely anybody goes there. At least there are appropriate amount of food selections. What really takes up the most is the size of the mall since it's about the same size as the one from Newpark Mall. I don't really plan on coming back here unless it gets renovated. There is much to improve. read more

This was definitely the most bizarre shopping mall I have ever been to. What is with the layout here? I came to pass some time while in the East Bay area and saw that they had a Round One, Gamestop, and H&M. We entered through Round One and found ourselves trapped and lost? How are we supposed to exit to the shopping mall? We ended up having to pass through an emergency exit. Once we entered the shopping mall, it seemed to be an endless hallway of shops. It was clean inside, but it was just such a long strip of stores... it felt like I was walking forever. At one point, we went down an escalator thinking it was another floor of stores, but it was just a food court? There was entire different floor just for the food court? My friends and I were so confused! I can see why this is a dying mall unfortunately. read more

2021 November update. Southland Mall is once again full to pre-pandemic capacity levels and the benches and chairs are back in the Food Court. Round 1 is also open which is on my bucket list to do. Unfortunately the Food Court has a lot of vacancies downstairs which leaves little choice for eating inside there. Auntie Annes, which is my favorite place to get a frozen lemonade had long lines which I did not care to stand in line as it seems it was not moving at all. Panda Express and Los Pericos is in the parking lot a little drive away but these are my personal faves after a trip to the mall before going home. It's kind of weird seeing Sears boarded up and I hope something fun gets placed in there soon! The seasonal holiday gift booths have opened up from within the mall today with fun gift giving ideas. One other thing, since the last time I was in there, a new place opened up where Tilt used to be, and then, it was formerly a shore store, and now it's a kids indoor playground. So maybe something fun to do with the kids when you are out and about. Its right before Century Theaters. FYI Wells Fargo is in the parking lot and makes for an easy connection to the mall if you prefer to spend cash at the mall vs card. read more

I stopped going to this mall shortly after middle school but once I saw all the remodeling, I was curious to see what changes Southland Mall made. To my surprise, it is a lot cleaner and less sketchy than before! I'm pleased to say the theatre is sooo nice with the heated recliners. The food court is actually decently priced food and the quality is better than expected. There are a few stores coming soon which I am excited for, but the ones there are really great. There's so many sales - F21 has great deals. Not to say this mall is like Westfield or Stoneridge, but it is better than before and I feel a lot safer with all the security around! read more

Southland mall and I go way back. When I lived in East Oakland many-many years ago and liked to shop, it was one of the two malls I went to wiht my mom. Now, I hate to shop and it has been a long time since I came here. I liked the L shape, mostly 1 story design of the mall. There were enough stores that I had hoped to be able to come home with what I was looking for. Unfortunately, I didn't find what I wanted and there was nothing else that I saw that I could not live without. The food court looked like there were a lot of choices. I was in a hurry so I passed on stopping for a bite to eat. If I stop at this mall again I will explore the food court. read more

This mall isnt that bad. I think this mall gets a bad Rep because its old, not renovated/modern at all but it meets the needs of a mall with most stores malls have and even a pretty good food court, with many selections. I dont like malls much, and this one is no different. I like people watching not to be confused with "People staring", and people here stare a lot just like any mall. As mentioned above, I agree this mall could use a coat of paint or something of that sort, but it is what it is here, and it doesn't stop people from coming and shopping everyday. I hear how ghetto this mall is often and a lot are basing this on a specific group of people that live in the area and are more likely to be here based on location. I believe people refer to it as such for the same reason a "Certain Someone" wanted to build a wall, and people need to check their self on their own prejudices. Don't have a problem because you don't like the way the people look staring back at you :) Back to the cool and collected. The mall has a lot of good stores with good prices and has something for everyone including an arcade in the downstairs food court. I have no idea why this mall still has a bad rep, they have been remodeling and updating their stores! They added an H&M, a dick's sporting goods, a century theatre, and a Sephora inside their JCPenney! Come on, even Newpark doesn't have a Sephora! Not gonna lie tho, southland went downhill for me when I was in my teens, it just became plain ghetto. But up until recently I can find my old favorite mall trying to rebuild what used to make it fun for me as a child. I wish they would have never got rid of the famous arcade that used to be in the ground level by the food court and the Sanrio Store though. Pochacco stationeries was my thang! I'm getting nostalgic! They did change a lot and maybe because it went downhill for a while people just decided to stop coming here. It's really not that bad, y'all. I'd give it another try. They are trying! This is one of the malls I grew up in and sadly it took a turn for the worse when unplanned pepper sprays and shootings scared patrons off. My mother was in one of the pepper spray assaults in Ross a few years back so we didn't go for a long time. Many businesses have since closed but Southland is trying to come back. They recently opened an H&M and are in the process of expanding their Planet Fitness. Dick's Sporting Goods has taken over where Mervyn's used to be. They are also finally going to build a movie theater in the mall. They have begun to renovate the mall itself with the floors becoming a shiny white. It could definitely use more food places but it is where I go when I have a Hot Dog on a Stick craving. Anchor stores are still Macy's, JC Penney's and Sears with the fairly new Dick's Sporting Goods. There is also still the Ross, Victoria's Secret, and many show stores. I can still be in and out of the mall within 20 minutes but I'm glad of their improvements and how much parking is always readily available. read more

I did not mind the crowd, the noise, the food court, the arcade games and the shops. Eventually, those types of things become old hat for an OG (old geezer) such as myself. Time does bring about change. I am not young any more, as I am a senior citizen over the age of 60. Then I am not too much into indoor malls. I rather be elsewhere on my weekends than to be at Southland Mall. Two years ago, I had to stop in JC Penney to return something on a Sunday morning. I got in and out of there in about half an hour. This time around my husband and I came here to this mall looking for the Warriors Finals Cap, which is a hot commodity item. We saw a Dick's Sporting Goods being built at the site where Mervyn's was. There sure was plenty of parking spaces available. Thus, seeing that I knew the mall was pretty much quiet and empty. I believe the best time to arrive at this mall or any mall is during the early afternoon hours on a weekday when public schools are in session and parents are working. It is less crowded, less noise and less drama. The drawback getting to this mall is the long drive from Alameda to Oakland to Hayward on Hwy. 880. Freeway traffic...ugh! read more

Now I know why I haven't to to this mall in many years. Nothing's changed. The only reason I came last night to the mall was to attend a health seminar which was featuring Golden State Warrior Stephen Curry. Also, to see if I could get an photo opportunity with the NBA all-star. Long story short, it didn't happen. The lines were crazy as expected. I was close to the door, but ended up getting denied as well as the other fans in line. High schoolers cussing up a storm not giving any cares of the kids to in the lines. I could see the disgusted faces of the parents from the disrespectful high schoolers. The only way to have gotten an autograph or photo opportunity was to win a raffle. After standing in line for almost 2 hours, I learned of this info at the end of the event. Weak sauce! As for this mall, it's like the annoying friend you don't want to hangout with, but you end doing so when no one else is around. The absolute SADDEST mall I have ever stepped foot in. That being said, I have no issues admitting that I am spoiled with Oakridge, Valley Fair, & Great Mall being easily accessible. The parking lot does come off sketchy looking. Placement of bright lights would definitely be a good start. A nice paint job for the mall itself, finalizing the theater's opening, and filling in the empty spaces would help with the foot traffic coming in and out. One added star because the food court looked good in size and very promising. Nothing too special at this mall. It's big but not much excitement. Upon entering there are a couple of Chain restaurants. They have a good selection of stores for all kinds of shopping. Macy's, Torrid, and other shops along with some foot wear stores snack eateries and diamond sellers are the main center. It's never too busy inside of any of the stores usually. Even with Covid not many people tend to crowd this mall as much compared to others. They have a huge parking lot, that is always pretty empty. Across the street on both sides of the mall front and back are other shopping stores. Berlington sits alone across the street in its own parking lot, and on the opposite location there is a little round about strip mall with other good shops. Like Ross a dollar tree some other women shops and more. This location tends to be more popular than the actual mall itself. However, I prefer coming here for the spacious shopping and empty parking lot before other spots. read more
