It was exactly where she would have wanted to be. However, she lost consciousness at the hospital and never woke again to participate in the decision. Mom was transferred here after a horrible experience at St John's Hospital. Please read it if you ever would consider choosing to go there. It will change your mind. Anyways, we were so glad to make the drive here, knowing it was a beautiful place - especially compared to the hospital. We had had to wait for a room to become available = that's how preferred it is for ending life. Mom's stay here was so very much like Dad's - almost eerie. Both were transferred from a hospital and arrived on a Friday. We were in a different wing this time and the set up was simply perfect for the large number of family members keeping vigil. Mom had a room with her bed and several chairs. And the staff brought enough folding chairs so we all could sit together at times. There was also a little lounge-like room 2 doors down where we could take a break and also grab a nap. Mom had a TV in her room and we all gathered to watch an OSU football game. She would have loved it. (Of course, OSU won). My brother and I were the only ones who spent the first night. He slept in the lounge chair in her room. I found a soft near the front door. Family joined us with coffee and breakfast and we gathered in the kitchen area. We also had my one niece's in-laws stop by and give their support. We spent the day keeping each other and Mom company. The facility has plenty of common areas with seating - but we mainly stuck to our 2 rooms. There are also shower facilities that I finally used after several days without a shower - between here and the hospital. The only complaint I have is the difficulty coming and going. I had to run out to the store and told the lady watching the door I'd be right back. I was gone a little over 30 minutes. You have to be buzzed in which I understand, but she made me sign in all over again and acted like she never saw me before. Also, there is no way to get in at night as no one answers the door bell or knocking. We figured out quickly to let each other in and out the side doors signaling with text messages our returns. My sis in law, older niece, brother and I stayed over Saturday night. It was early Sunday morning that Mom died. She last one hour longer into the early morning than Dad did. We had to wait over an hour for the funeral home to come. Then we said our last good byes as Mom wanted to be cremated. It was a blessing in the end - but still very sad. Mom was 89 - less than a week from being 90. She led a full life and had lost quality of life by the end - so it was time for her to go. Ames provide a comfortable place with beautiful, caring people working there. They were so good to Mom -and also to Dad. They treated our parents with respect - as if they were their own parents. I can honestly say - if I can't die at home, I would choose to die in a wonderful place like this. But most importantly, it allowed Mom to die surrounded by the people who loved her most.

Our family spent four days here with our loved one before she passed. While the experience was a very sad one, the facility and staff are truly remarkable. The facility features 12 private, very comfortable rooms. Each room is set up much like a hotel with the exception of having a hospital bed and basic medical needs such as oxygen. Each room had a huge window to let in light and bird feeder just outside to entertain patients and family members alike. Aside from the private rooms there were several comfortable sitting areas with couches, TVs, games and gas fireplaces. The cafeteria offered meals to patients and guests three times per day. Additionally there was a small kitchen area available if you wished to prepare some food yourself. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate were always available as were small snack items such as muffins, brownies or toast in the morning. The facility even offered a computer room and free wifi if there was a need to get online. There are no visiting hours here. You can spend all day and all night with your loved one. No limits on the number of guests. We were even offered cots since we were spending nights at the facility. The grounds around the facility were park-like, beautiful and well maintained. There were two sunrooms, one at the end of each wing, if you wanted to enjoy the outdoors without going outside. The outdoor area featured several sitting areas as well as a short walking path and a playground for kids. The staff here is simply wonderful. Everyone is a volunteer with the exception of the nurses. The nurses provided the most caring and dignified care to someone nearing the end of life. I especially have to call out Liz and Dora who not only took care of our loved one, but also provided compassion and true caring to the family as well. I just don't have the words to express my true appreciation and gratitude for making a difficult situation as comfortable as possible.

He was at the Good Shepherd nursing home and Hospice took care of him and his case, completely, while he was there. They were very caring and very responsive to any questions or concerns we had. Every question was treated as an important one. When you're dealing with a situation like this, you really want to be treated with some level of respect and understanding. Navigating everything surrounding a loved one who is near end-of-life is difficult at best, confusing at worst, and having experts there to help you get through it all is worth its weight in gold. Right up to my father's passing at Good Shepherd, Hospice was there providing us all of their care, support, and help as well as keeping dad comfortable as possible. Special thanks to P.J., the Hospice nurse who most closely interacted with us on dad's case. If you find yourself in a situation where a loved one is at end-of-life, or at least near it, you won't find any finer group of people than Hospice of North Central Ohio. Many thanks for their services and support and I would recommend them to anyone.

The nursing staff was responsive to his every need and checked on him frequently. The pastoral care he received was equally wonderful. Sister Margaret Mary, in particular, was so warm and loving toward him, and I was touched by her kindness. I'm sure she brought him much comfort! In addition, I was pleasantly surprised by how the staff took such good care of my family and I while we kept vigil in my dad's room. Between my brother, my mom and myself, we never left his side on the weekend he passed. The staff saw to it that I had a pillow and blanket to keep me comfortable while I slept there overnight, and they also brought me a phone charger when I needed it. One day, a staff member cooked my mom a grilled cheese sandwich just for her, because she knew she needed to eat. They promised us they would do anything they could for us, and they certainly did! When my dad passed away, we were all given a hug by our wonderful nurse, and given reassurance that he was no longer in pain. I could tell that one of the other nurses present was fighting back tears, which touched me, as well, knowing that I was not alone in my grief. I really just can't say enough good things about the wonderful people working there who make it their mission to provide comfort and care to their patients and their families. And the facility, itself, is beautiful, clean, and well-maintained. Nobody wants to have to bring their loved one to a hospice, but if you should find yourself looking for a facility to provide palliative care for your family member, you really couldn't ask for a place better than Holy Family.

Not only did Angela provide professional, compassionate and person-cented care, they did so with incredible humanity and grace. Even when we came to the "nitty gritty" of finances and paperwork, they showed incredible grace and professionalism. A tip I received from a social worker was to take a good look around and "trust my gut" about whether this felt like a comfortable place for my loved one. Prima facie, it did, and in the end, it absolutely was.

A heartbreaking experience during my father's final days…read more I am writing this review as a heartbroken daughter who trusted Angela Hospice to provide compassionate care for my father during the final weeks of his life. Unfortunately, our experience was incredibly disappointing, and I would not recommend this company to other families. We were with Angela Hospice for only two weeks before my father passed away. I had already been planning to switch hospice providers due to concerns about his care. However, as his condition rapidly declined and he became unresponsive, I was unable to make the transition. I deeply regret that we did not have the opportunity to find another provider. I was paying $4,100 per month for my father's around-the-clock care at his residence, with hospice services being an additional expense. When I called Angela Hospice for assistance, I was told, "We are not 24/7 care." This response was unnecessary and incredibly frustrating. I was not expecting hospice to replace the caregivers we were already paying for. I understood that distinction. I expected hospice to provide the additional medical support, care coordination, and compassionate end-of-life services my father and family needed. Instead, I often felt we were left to figure things out ourselves. I also found his nurse to be extremely cold and lacking compassion. While she was knowledgeable, medical knowledge alone is not enough when caring for someone who is dying. Families are experiencing some of the most painful moments of their lives and deserve a nurse who can balance clinical expertise with warmth, empathy, and understanding. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. The inconsistency in care was equally upsetting. I had to specifically request that my father receive a bath, and his first week was skipped because of a holiday. I understand that holidays affect scheduling, but hospice care does not stop because it is a holiday. My father was dying, and basic care should not have been delayed. On another occasion, someone came to provide care but left because my father did not answer the door. He was physically unable to get up from the couch. He was on hospice and nearing the end of his life. How could anyone reasonably expect him to get up and answer the door? Rather than making an effort to ensure he was okay, the caregiver left. As a result, my father had to wait another week for his nurse to provide a bath. This was unacceptable. I had never navigated hospice care before. I am a relatively young woman who was watching her father, who was also far too young, approach the end of his life. I was trying to navigate an unfamiliar process while ensuring he was comfortable, cared for, and treated with dignity. Instead of feeling supported, I often felt I had to advocate for even the most basic aspects of his care. Those final days should have been about spending time with my dad, not worrying about whether his care team would show up or follow through. The lack of compassion continued after my father passed away. I was told someone from Angela Hospice would contact me following his death. When I called the next day, I was asked, "What do you need?" There was no expression of sympathy, no acknowledgment of my loss, and not even a simple "I'm sorry for your loss." As I write this review, nine days have passed since my father died, and I have not heard from anyone at Angela Hospice. Hospice care should be about more than medical knowledge. It should be about compassion, dignity, consistency, and supporting families through the most painful moments of their lives. We desperately needed those things and, in my experience, did not receive them. I recognize that we were only with Angela Hospice for two weeks, but those were some of the most significant and heartbreaking days of my life. My father was nearing the end of his life, and there was no opportunity for a second chance. I cannot get those days back, and I deeply regret that his final weeks were marked by so much disappointment and frustration. My father deserved better, and our family deserved better. I would not recommend Angela Hospice to families seeking compassionate end-of-life care. I encourage families to ask detailed questions about visit frequency, personal care, responsiveness, and bereavement support before choosing a provider. No family should have to look back on their loved one's final days and feel as unsupported and let down as we do.

They insisted our mother would be best served in this facility. LESS than 12 hours later we were told by the nurses and social worker that our mother didn't belong here and we needed to find someone else immediately. This was less than 24 hours after receiving a terminal diagnosis. The care was horrible. They made her defecate in her Depends because "it was too difficult" to move her. They confined her to her bed and refused to let her even sit in a chair for the same reason. My mother weighs 150 pounds. We were told my mother bit someone and was constantly agitated. This is after 24 hours of asking them to provide the proper medications for her because "they couldn't get hold of them". The clinical director later said she absolutely did not bite anyone. They ruined her chances of getting into a hospice nursing home because of the biting report and keeping her on Haldol to keep her sleepy and compliant. They they told us the doctor was taking her off of inpatient hospice and we would need her to begin paying $270 a day to keep her there. The nurses were rude and brusque. They literally laughed in my mother's face when she asked for something that didn't make sense because of her dementia. This was one of the worst experiences of our lives. My three sisters and I couldn't wait to get my mother out of this facility. It made us sick to watch how she was cared for. The building may look nice but it's rotten to its core.

The location is incredibly beautiful, and the rooms all have a nice view of a large pond in the back. As a family member, you can walk around the pond, find places to sit outside and just relax your mind. While she was there, the weather was pretty nice and warm. They told us we could actually move her in her bed to her outside patio. My Grandma was a sun lover so we thought why not. She had been basically non-verbal for almost 24 hours at this moment and randomly kept her eyes closed. The staff helped us open the large doors, and roll her in her bed outside. She opened her eyes and said, "I need my bathing suit". We all laughed. But that simple movement and change for her, basically brought her back for another moment. While there you can use their facilities and take a break in this large great room at the center of the place. They also have pretty good food that even family members are permitted to order at a very affordable price.
