Our family spent four days here with our loved one before she passed. While the experience was a very sad one, the facility and staff are truly remarkable. The facility features 12 private, very comfortable rooms. Each room is set up much like a hotel with the exception of having a hospital bed and basic medical needs such as oxygen. Each room had a huge window to let in light and bird feeder just outside to entertain patients and family members alike. Aside from the private rooms there were several comfortable sitting areas with couches, TVs, games and gas fireplaces. The cafeteria offered meals to patients and guests three times per day. Additionally there was a small kitchen area available if you wished to prepare some food yourself. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate were always available as were small snack items such as muffins, brownies or toast in the morning. The facility even offered a computer room and free wifi if there was a need to get online. There are no visiting hours here. You can spend all day and all night with your loved one. No limits on the number of guests. We were even offered cots since we were spending nights at the facility. The grounds around the facility were park-like, beautiful and well maintained. There were two sunrooms, one at the end of each wing, if you wanted to enjoy the outdoors without going outside. The outdoor area featured several sitting areas as well as a short walking path and a playground for kids. The staff here is simply wonderful. Everyone is a volunteer with the exception of the nurses. The nurses provided the most caring and dignified care to someone nearing the end of life. I especially have to call out Liz and Dora who not only took care of our loved one, but also provided compassion and true caring to the family as well. I just don't have the words to express my true appreciation and gratitude for making a difficult situation as comfortable as possible.

He was at the Good Shepherd nursing home and Hospice took care of him and his case, completely, while he was there. They were very caring and very responsive to any questions or concerns we had. Every question was treated as an important one. When you're dealing with a situation like this, you really want to be treated with some level of respect and understanding. Navigating everything surrounding a loved one who is near end-of-life is difficult at best, confusing at worst, and having experts there to help you get through it all is worth its weight in gold. Right up to my father's passing at Good Shepherd, Hospice was there providing us all of their care, support, and help as well as keeping dad comfortable as possible. Special thanks to P.J., the Hospice nurse who most closely interacted with us on dad's case. If you find yourself in a situation where a loved one is at end-of-life, or at least near it, you won't find any finer group of people than Hospice of North Central Ohio. Many thanks for their services and support and I would recommend them to anyone.

The nursing staff was responsive to his every need and checked on him frequently. The pastoral care he received was equally wonderful. Sister Margaret Mary, in particular, was so warm and loving toward him, and I was touched by her kindness. I'm sure she brought him much comfort! In addition, I was pleasantly surprised by how the staff took such good care of my family and I while we kept vigil in my dad's room. Between my brother, my mom and myself, we never left his side on the weekend he passed. The staff saw to it that I had a pillow and blanket to keep me comfortable while I slept there overnight, and they also brought me a phone charger when I needed it. One day, a staff member cooked my mom a grilled cheese sandwich just for her, because she knew she needed to eat. They promised us they would do anything they could for us, and they certainly did! When my dad passed away, we were all given a hug by our wonderful nurse, and given reassurance that he was no longer in pain. I could tell that one of the other nurses present was fighting back tears, which touched me, as well, knowing that I was not alone in my grief. I really just can't say enough good things about the wonderful people working there who make it their mission to provide comfort and care to their patients and their families. And the facility, itself, is beautiful, clean, and well-maintained. Nobody wants to have to bring their loved one to a hospice, but if you should find yourself looking for a facility to provide palliative care for your family member, you really couldn't ask for a place better than Holy Family.

The gal who would bathe my 94 year old hubby I would rate a 20 on a scale of 1-10. She loved him and took wonderful care of him. I was so glad when we switched over to Capital City from the other hospice we had as I felt each person we had contact with were a perfect "fit" for our family.

What I since learned after my parent's death is that the Capital City Hospice of today is NOT the same Capital City Hospice of 2 or 3 years ago. Many of the wonderful, seasoned nurses and administrators that made the company so strong left when it was bought out by a big-box healthcare company. So, unfortunately, the hospice services that we received from the "new" Capital City Hospice were really terrible. The nurse assigned to my parent was incompetent and immature. Just one example - my parent was experiencing a pain episode in the home and the hospice nurse called 911 and promptly left. She never alerted anyone that my 80-year-old parent, who was near death, had been transported by ambulance to the emergency room. I only found out because I received a text message from the ER. I still struggle to understand how a nurse could just fail to provide for the safety of her patient. And that wasn't even the worst of it. Also, I found the administration to be unkind and out of touch. I could go on and on. But, in thinking about what information would be most helpful to a patient or family member in such a trying time, it is this - If someone gives you a good review of Capital City Hospice, ask them when they had this experience. If the experience was more than one year ago - beware! - consider that it might not be indicative of the Capital City Hospice that you would be getting today. I wouldn't wish that one on my worst enemy.
