Bugs in cobwebs
Mike S.

Do not rent from this company. We stayed at lost key, and the advertisement does not match how things operate there. First, our room smelled like cigar smoke and garbage as you entered. It was like that for 2 days. As you start up to the main floor the hallways had nats trapped in cobwebs. Second, in the advertisement it says beach chairs come with the rental. It is a first come first serve basis and that means waking up at 7 driving over to the beach club and getting chairs and an umbrella setup so you have chairs at 10:30. You cannot park at the beach club either, there is public parking just to the left of the club but space is limited so arrive early. In short, we had to rush so we had chairs and an umbrella at the beach. Then the room was not on par for the price.

Photos of broken blinds, workers on balcony.

This is the worst management company I have ever dealt with traveling. We rented a condo in Perdido Key for 2 weeks in Beach Colony. Rented through vrbo. Neither vrbo or this management company informed us the balcony for our beachfront/oceanfront would be closed entire time. I received several emails from them prior to arrival day. None of the emails contained information to go to their website or information related to this work. In addition the blinds were broken the entire time in the main living area. With workers on the balcony starting early morning until early evening there was no privacy. The noise was horrendous everyday. I could go on & on. The management company offered no solution whatsoever. Do not recommend renting through them.

Under kitchen sink leak, nail and mold.
Ranee M.

Rented a unit for 5 nights (Perdido Skye #36) and was going to have my daughter and 10 month old grandson come and spend Mother's Day (my last full day of rental) with me on the beach. WEDNESDAY: I Paid for an early arrival but on arrival there was debris from cabinets in the kitchen being ripped out and stacked onto the kitchen floor. I did not unload until I was 100% sure this would be cleared out. It finally was but well into my early check-in time that I was charged extra for. So I was left with no cabinets below the kitchen sink, exposing the plumbing and sharp nails coming out of cabinets on either side. THURSDAY: The following morning as I washed a dish in the sink water was leaking onto the floor below the sink. I reported it and was told to go about my day and someone would check on it. As I was trying to enjoy my day I received texts and a phone call asking when I'd be back in the unit because the manager wanted me to show him where it was leaking because he didn't see it. I was not cutting my time on the beach short but was irritated while trying to relax. I just asked for a bucket and to be left alone. I was told to use a bowl or pitcher and if a bucket was located it would be brought. I placed a small trash can below the sink. Once returning to the unit and entering the bathroom I stepped into a puddle of water and slipped and fell. I wiped everything up and proceeded to find out where the water came from. I found the source and reported it. I placed a towel on the floor to catch the leak from the toilet. FRIDAY: The following morning the weather was raining so I decided to sleep in and possibly enjoy the view from the unit. I received a text stating that the property manager would arrive within the hour. I expressed that I was planning on sleeping in. Within minutes there was a knock on the door. I was still in my pajamas. A repair man and the property manager came in. I brought the repair man to the kitchen sink, turned the water on and the water just poured out of the bottom. So how that wasn't seen the day before is beyond me. It took a while but the repair man was able to fix both leaks. The property manager pointed out MOLD under the sink on the back wall. So now I'm stuck here with MOLD. SATURDAY: Pretty uneventful but had to report the WiFi was not working and had only worked briefly on Thursday and Friday. Was told where to find it and try resetting it. I did but it is still intermittent. Tomorrow is Mother's Day and my daughter and I realized it would be impossible to have my 10 month old grandson in a unit with the hazard left in the kitchen with the exposed plumbing and sharp nails sticking out and MOLD. I notified Southern Vacation Rental that I would be leaving Sunday morning (a day early) due to all of the issues with the unit and the remaining hazard horribly unsafe especially for a crawling baby which ruined my Mother's Day plan. I was insulted with an offer of 10% refund of my charges. Remember: I paid for a 3 hour early check in which I did not get to fully utilize because of the debris that needed to be removed. So the unit was never properly cleaned for my arrival. I was inconvenienced with leaking plumbing and MOLD. I was forced to leave a day early to spend Mother's Day with my daughter because of the hazard I was left with in the unit. There was an issue every day I was there. They will rent a place with major issues. They have no problem taking your money. And they will insult you with a minuscule discount that does not cover your inconvenience. Don't use 'Southern Vacation Rentals'.

dripping from switch

Fort Walton-Waterscape- A303- july9-july16 Do not rent from this booking agent, if there is an issue you wont be ale to talk to anyone. issues: -Since Day 1 we notified GS with Southern Vacation rental about the dryer not working and the uncleanliness of the unit. I am not going to say it wasn't fully cleaned because we did early check in but if they gave us an option to pay $60 and get dirty unit or check in at 4pm and it would be clean then obviously our choice would have been the latter. -We should have been notified this was an issue especially since it was confirmed to us the dryer had not worked for the past 3 weeks before we got there. -Day 2 we was told we was getting a new dryer by Day 4 and since they didn't offer to give towels we requested them. It would seem customary that if you give someone a unit without a way to wash anything they will need more than 8 towels for 8 people for at that point 4 days. Why did we have to ask and then to be notified they will be there in 30 mins to bring your towels we just happen to have ordered in that night, thankfully. -We had to be the ones to contact them even though a work order was created we wasn't told when anyone would be there. If they did tell us a time like they did on the 15th the 12pm to 4pm they didn't come in that window it was 2 hours after 4pm they came. -Since Day 1 the "inconvenience" as GS and anyone we talked to on the phone kept calling it, took up more time of our vacation than actual beach time. We had to be the ones to start the contact to ask about when someone was coming for each circumstance not just the Tuesday delivery. We was constantly waiting to be called back or something to be delivered or someone coming to do something to the washer and dryer. -We were told a new dryer, a new part came instead. The fact we was told by the maintenance man he is surprised we didn't get shocked is crazy; that's a deal breaker, that's a huge issue. The part didn't work, they delivered the washer and dryer and instead of hooking them up they sit in the dinning room for 2 Days taking up space. Then when the workers came to hook it up they didn't have the right hook ups as they told us and would be back that afternoon. Camille from southern Rentals tells us the dryer had been down for 3 weeks and the owner was having a hard time getting one delivered. -We asked to be placed in a different condo since that was Day 4 and we was told they were booked up. -After the southern Vacation Rentals tried to hook it up that Tuesday; Thursday we were told that we messed up the dryer we have been begging all week for, which we have photos that we sent them that showed it was wrapped up and upside down as soon as we got in the room. When we got blamed for something we didn't do and that didn't make sense we knew there is no reasonability with the company. -After they installed at 6pm the night before we leave they put the dryer in the way of the washer so we couldn't open the door even though in the video you can hear her tell my son its installed. -They sent $100.08, We said that wont even get close to what we have had to deal with. A Mgr. called on our last Day offered $243.36, but the PM never contacted us. We should have been contacted on Day 1 or Day 2. -We paid $5,107.00 for 8 Days 7 nights not to only have dirty clothes, a dirty unit, continuously being told something different daily, always waiting on a company throughout the day everyday to contact us and to be blamed for damaging something we asked for all week long but to have a company we paid only to ruin this whole vacation its unsettling. -It wasn't a one-Day occurrence they kept us on this puppet string all week. -Then to have the adult male act like that towards my child when no other adult but his coworkers was present, I guess I should thank the other woman for telling him to stop it isn't worth it because I can't imagine what would have happened if she wasn't there even if it was to protect her coworker and no one has yet to call me about that situation.

We just returned from a 5-night stay at 16027 Perdido Beach from Fri, 4/16 - Wed, 4/21. It was hell - an absolute nightmare! We didn't get to the house until appx. 9 PM on Friday night. As we were unpacking in the kitchen, we saw several roaches. We didn't think much of it at first - assumed it was just FL weather, killed the roaches, and continued unpacking. Little did we know the kitchen was INFESTED with roaches. They were EVERYWHERE - in the cabinets, the dishwasher, coming up through the kitchen sink, coming through electrical outlets (which we didn't even know was possible!), etc. They ever crawled through our groceries and got into my purse on the kitchen counter. My husband and I found a can of roach spray that had been left behind, so it became apparent this was a known problem at this property. As we started to look in the kitchen cabinets, we noticed roach droppings EVERYWHERE. It was disgusting. We saturated the kitchen with roach spray, but it didn't help. The roach activity continued. We called Southern the next day (Saturday). While all of the CSRs we spoke with were very polite and apologetic, they said there was nothing they could do because the pest control services were closed for the weekend, and we would have to wait until Monday. I told them all of the large national companies like Orkin, Terminix, EcoLab, etc. have after-hours emergency services. If their local company couldn't accommodate, there were plenty of other service providers they could call to help us resolve the issue. I even offered to help arrange emergency services through Orkin using a national account I had through work. I requested, multiple times, to speak with the Property Manager on duty (Amanda). Amanda wouldn't get on the phone to talk with me or return my phone calls. The CSRs told me it was, "not her job to speak with guests" and that's what Guest Services is for. The lack of leadership and customer service displayed was beyond unbelievable. On Monday morning, I called Southern again. They said the pest control company would be out between 1 - 2 PM. They showed up late, with no notification, after 3 PM. By the time they finally showed late on Monday, we had killed over 300 roaches during the weekend. Yes, we actually turned it into a game and counted how many roaches we killed to lighten in the mood with our small children (ages 4 and 13), who were scared to go into the kitchen to grab a snack. After the pest control tech left, I never heard from Southern again. They didn't call to check in to see how we were doing, they didn't follow up with an apology for the inconvenience, and they didn't offer compensation for ruining 3 out of 4 days of our vacation.... absolutely nothing. We still saw some live roaches this morning as we checked out. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. We took TONS of videos and pictures of the roach activity to escalate to senior management and help them understand how poorly this incident was handled. As if the roach problem wasn't horrible enough, there was one other major issue with our stay that prospective guests should be aware of. This property is sandwiched between two different properties on a stretch of beach next to the state park. These are the only three houses on the beach, and is the entire reason we booked this property, as we wanted a quiet vacation with our family away from the crowds and noise. We spent hours on VBRO looking for the perfect property with a private pool overlooking the beach so we could have a relaxing vacation. While the house/pool is gorgeous (just like the pics) and the beach location is exactly what we wanted, what you DON'T see in the online listing and pictures are the two houses it sits between. One house is an abandoned shack that is completely torn up - it looks like it has been rotting for years (creepy at night since there is no one else around). The other house is a duplex that is ongoing MAJOR renovations, so we had the pleasure of waking up at 8 AM on Monday to a massive construction crew with bulldozers, drills, hammers, and everything else. We couldn't even use the pool because there was a whole crew of construction workers right next to us tearing up the roof, replacing windows, etc. It was very uncomfortable having construction workers blaring their music and watching us while trying to relax, so we just skipped the pool and went to the beach. There was no forewarning on the website listing with VBRO or Southern that the only house directly next door was being rebuilt, which could result in unwanted construction noise or inconveniences. If we had known, we NEVER would have booked this property. My family and I have stayed in numerous VBRO rentals over the years, as we typically go away two or three times a year. This is the only time I have ever left a negative review and the only time we have experienced a problem like this. I hope other travelers find this review helpful and refrain from booking this property.

The Dory Condominiums
Beth E.

We stayed at The Dory "E" August 29-September 2. Booking was easy with no problems, it was cheaper booking directly with them vs on HomeAway or VRBO. The condo has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The bottom floor is an enclosed private parking garage for one car (which is really great, but our Yukon unfortunately didn't fit!), and there is a screened in porch that leads directly to the path to the beach. The porch is great for storing your beach items and if you wanted to eat out there, there is a large table with chairs. The first floor is one bedroom with a bed and bunk beds, one bathroom (which can be accessed from the hall or the bedroom)and kitchen and living area. There is a stackable washing machine/dryer next to the bedroom. The kitchen had more kitchen items than I expected from reading other reviews (there were plenty of utensils, plastic food containers). There was a Keurig, but no regular coffee maker. There was also no baking sheet pans. The living room area has a balcony overlooking the beach. There are some great captain's chairs out there to sit. There is a couch and love seat in the living room. An extra chair in the living room would have been nice! The second floor has two bedrooms and one bathroom. The master bedroom on the second floor also has a balcony overlooking the beach. The bathroom connected to the master bedroom can also be accessed from the hall. An extra bathroom would have been really nice so that the master bedroom could have been more private. There is a sink, toilet and bathtub, and then there are two more sinks and counter/cabinet space in the upstairs bathroom. Things we LOVED: 1. Private beach! This 6 unit condo complex had its own private beach for the people staying there. It was wonderful not having to share space with lots of other people! 2. Close proximity to the beach! You walk out of the screened in porch directly to the beautiful beach..no walking down a walkway, no stairs..just BEACH! 3. Pet friendly!!! It is so hard finding a pet friendly place to stay directly on the beach! Yes, the beach itself doesn't allow dogs, but that's not a problem for us because our chihuahua doesn't go on the beach. Thank you for allowing a pet!!! 4. The views are fantastic from the balconies! Things that could approve: 1. We didn't call about this, but we had an ant problem when we first arrived in the kitchen and first floor bathroom and the entrance to the condo. We bought some spray and the problem was taken care of. Also, there were spiders in the screened in porch. After spraying, we didn't see anymore unwanted insects. 2. Check out time could have been later than 9:00 am! 3. We enjoyed the awesome televisions, but we kept having to "reboot" them periodically because of lost service. Also, we had to replace the batteries in the remote controls for the living area and master bedroom because the batteries were dead. I highly recommend staying here!

The cleaning was terrible at Perdido Skye. The bunks are for small children they are not twin size.

I booked a vacation rental with them because I hate using OTAs or big corporate feeling companies and LOVE supporting locals, they seemed like the most relevant company and their service did not disappoint. Booking was easy and we got a great rental, but the ongoing communication and the real people who answered the phone when I called with questions impressed me. We even had a minor issue after we arrived and they were able to help immediately. Additionally, the destination itself is truly a gem...obviously it was off-season, but the tranquil feel of the island, the exceptional beachfront location of our condo, and the "Cheers-like" atmosphere of the restaurants and businesses was exactly the escape my husband, daughter and I were looking for. We loved the view and the furniture on the balcony. So much that we are looking where to buy some for our house. It was so awesome to sit there each morning and be in the shade and watching all the people roasting in the sun down at the beach. Of course if you love roasting at the beach, it's just steps there! We didn't use the pools but they were nice looking. We did use the fitness center and we enjoyed it. The bed in the unit was SO comfortable, and we loved it that we are looking to buy the same mattress at our house . We slept like babies, as it's quiet and they have a fan and room darkening curtains. It is newly furnished and very nice. Each room has a RV with streaming options. I also noticed a pull out sofa but we didn't use it. The dining room has a kitchen table and a bar area. The kitchen has bare minimum so don't except to do some major meals there. But we did get a craving for a later snack after an early dinner and went to the local Publix and got some frozen pizza and salad and there was a pizza sheet and pizza cutter so it was sufficient for us. Plenty of plates and bowls and silverware and basic cookware. It was fine for us but if you're going to cook a lot of meals then bring stuff. There is a toaster and percolating coffee maker. There is automatic ice in the freezer. There is no dish soap so bring some. Bring extra TP and paper towels. They provide a couple dishwasher tabs. It is pretty basic like a nicer hotel room and having the extra half bath so if you're looking for a condo that has a lot of stuff then this isn't it. Like I said, it was perfect for us two and we really enjoyed it and would definitely rent here again in the future if it was available. The condo is in a great area. It's very quiet but if you want to go where there's more stuff then Orange Beach and Pensacola aren't very far. Also if you go eat, don't go to the Jellyfish Restaurant - it was terrible terrible. But definitely go to the Perdido Key Breakfast Club and get the Perdido Burrito. You'll thank me later. That was our favorite place. Also go to orange beach and go to Luna's and Cosmos because they are fire. Thank you for a lovely stay. The management company was FANTASTIC!! They kept us informed and instantly responded to questions we had. Also there were some activities discounted or free with them and we did the dolphin cruise with their discount.
