No, it is not a requirement or a corporate policy to open your door so they can collect your VIN…read moreplate information for a "Free Air" check. However, they are trained to look at the tire inflation placard (door jamb sticker)--not the VIN plate--when checking your air pressure. Here is what is actually going on when they ask you to open your door: * Looking for the proper PSI: The most common reason a technician asks you to open the driver's side door is to read the manufacturer's recommended cold tire pressure (PSI) printed on the door jamb placard. Relying on the maximum pressure printed on the tire sidewall itself is unsafe and can lead to over-inflation. * Gathering vehicle details (Trim/Specs): Discount Tire technicians use handheld tablets to log every vehicle that pulls up. Depending on the store location and the technician, they may look at the door sticker to verify your vehicle's exact trim package or tire size to log it into their system accurately. * VIN scanning is for full service, not air checks: While Discount Tire does have the capability to scan VIN barcodes inside the door jamb to quickly look up vehicle histories or pull exact specifications, this is standard procedure when you are checking in for paid services (like buying tires, getting a balancing, or a flat repair), not a mandatory requirement just to get a splash of free air. If you prefer to keep your car door closed, you can simply tell the technician the exact PSI you want your tires set to (e.g., "Please put them all at 35 PSI"). They will almost always respect that and fill your tires without requiring you to open the door. BUT YET WHEN I SAID NO, THAT I JUST NEEDED AIR...BETWEEN THE MORNING "MANAGER" AND THE TECH BOTH SAID THAT IT WAS A REQUIREMENT (?) SO THEY REFUSED TO PROVIDE THAT SERVICE...OH WELL LITTLE TRAINING HERE...OR POST YOUR OWN POLICY "NO OPEN DOOR...NO AIR"

Yelp Review: Stockton Hill Tires…read more Our Volvo was driving like a bucking bronco, so after getting a referral we scheduled an alignment at Stockton Hill Tires on January 6th. After the alignment, they told us the tires needed balancing as well, so we agreed to that. They took the car on three test drives and assured us each time that it was running "smooth" and everything "looked good." We were told maybe we had "bad" tires or possibly a problem with the transmission and sent on our way. Saying the Volvo was driving "smooth" couldn't have been further from the truth. The moment we got in the car, it was vibrating and bouncing just as badly as before. It genuinely felt like they wanted us out the door rather than taking the time to diagnose the real issue. When we got home, a simple Google search pointed to bad CV joints and control arms. We took the car to Tire Works in Bullhead City, and they confirmed exactly that. It's hard to believe Stockton Hill Tires didn't catch something so obvious. Tire Works replaced the parts, and now our Volvo drives perfectly. The staff at Stockton Hill Tires were friendly, but friendliness doesn't fix a car. Whether they didn't know what they were doing or just didn't want to deal with it, the result was the same. Based on our experience, I can't recommend them. Tire Works in Bullhead City, on the other hand, got the job done right.
