I don't usually go for kolaches and donuts, but I was staying at an Airbnb nearby. Unfortunately, both the small and large kolaches were extremely dry, and the donut holes were unremarkable. I don't bake, so I'm not sure what went wrong on their end. I must say, these were the driest pastries I have ever eaten, and everything was overpriced. I cannot recommend this place. read more

One bite test of a donut from a former gas station. I wasn't intending to do a Single Bite Test today and passed several other donut shops that would have been great prospects. However, this one caught my eye for a couple of reasons. I grew up in this part of Dallas. My grandmother lived down the street and I remember stopping here for gas with her. So,I thought what better place to do a SBT. Now I didnt go to the trouble of writting a review for the SBT. I could have just listed it like say...5. Yes a five on the 1-10 scale. It was way too sweet and didnt taste as good as other Southern maid locations I've sampled. No, the reason I'm writing this is to point out a huge glaring error the clerk made in my order. I pointed to the Plain Glazed and said, I want one Plain glazed. Simple. I then ask her if the one next to it was chocolate-covered cake. She said yes. I said Ill take one of those too. I paid and stopped at a close by table to look at my order. There was a chocolate-covered cake and a plain cake. I went back to the counter and showed her the two donuts that I had, and reminded her of the one plain glazed. She seemed a little confused so, I stated it again. She bent down and put a donut in another bag handed it to me then with a wax sheet looked at the one I had and reached for it! I handed it to her thinking wow that's not right. I got to my car, opened the bag, and guess what. It was another cake just like the one id given her? Ok ,Im thinking what am i, going crazy? I reviewed in my mind what id said and returned inside. I approached the counter and again said Id ordered a Plain Glazed and you gave me another cake. Again, she looked confused. I pointed to the plain glazed and ask her isnt that what you call those, plain glazed? I'm still not sure what happened there but, again she took the wrong donut from me a second time and didn't throw it away!!!! So, Im writing this to warn others to stay away. There are plenty of shops around here to get donuts at. I'm sure she put those donuts back in the case when I left. read more

Moved recently so this is now my neighborhood donut shop! Hours are standard and unlike many other in the metroplex it has a nice outdoor seating area if you want to eat onsite. Love their Apple fritters which are bigger than a toddlers head along with their sour cream and cake donuts. They've been hit or miss with the Kolaches as they only have the jalapeños half the time I've been but they were tasty when I was able to try them. read more

Fell in love with Southern Maid during the many trips to see family in Shreveport. So, I was so excited to see that they opened a bunch of them in Dallas. My mom and I headed over to the Bishop Arts location and checked them out. We got three of their traditional glaze and a twist. Even though they were not pipping hot they still had that creamy and not too sweet Southern Maid taste--that makes you want to eat the entire bag and your friends too! Love this little neighborhood shop. Service is generally prompt, the coffee is surprisingly decent, and the donuts... the donuts are just so. damn. good. They have plenty of fancy donuts with toppings and fillings and the like, but the plain glazed are so good that anything else just seems like gilding they lily. The texture is fluffy, and the flavor of where the glaze meets the outside edge of the donut is just sublime. Not a great parking situation, but what place is that's close to/in Bishop Arts? You can park in the neighborhoods and walk over if you don't live close by! This place has tons of coffee options and an array of sausage rolls and donuts. They also offer soda if that's for you. The donuts are fantastic, slightly crisp and not too sweet. Note: all of the sausage rolls have cheese except for the mini ones. However, those mini pigs in blankets are delicious and 3 for $1 so if you're dairy free this is for you! They have five booths inside and at least eight or so tables outside, so if you're not taking your order to-go then there's a good chance you'll find a place to enjoy your food! Service was fine. No one was enthusiastic or anything, but they were very quick and efficient which is fine by me! read more

Worst customer service. Donuts are meh. If I see the old lady with the unfortunate bun or the middle-aged woman with too much make-up, I know I'm going to get horrible service. The other staff is nice. Bun lady would not add sprinkles for my daughter on her birthday even though they were happy to do so for the children in line ahead of us. I begged and pleaded, letting them know it was her birthday. Bun lady responded with a smiley no. Today, I asked the one who wears too much make-up who is always rude and apparently the owner if she would add whipped cream. I went here because it's directly on my way to work. I went through the drive through. The service was a little abrasive and they tried to shoo me away before giving me my credit card back. It was about $6 for 4 donuts and a dozen donut holes so not super expensive but not the cheapest. I was getting donuts for multiple people and when I get to work I realize they didn't give me one cake donut so we were short a donut. Each time I've gotten stale products. 1st I tried a donut and cappuccino. Donut had a nice vanilla flavor, but was dry and stale. It seemed to bother the man that I ordered a capuccino. I am very disappointed in the customer service. I've been here more than a few times and the service was bland. I normally blame it on the fact that it's early and they may not be morning people even tho working mornings is a requirement for selling donuts! Today I decided to go through the drive through where I sat so long that I didn't think it was open. Looking through the window I see several people looking at me but not coming to the window. When we first saw the star ratings for this place, we were uncertain if we should try it or look for another donut shop. I LOVE donuts, so it was imperative that we find the best place while we were visiting Dallas for the weekend. We took a chance and HOLY DONUTS, BATMAN! These are on my top three donuts of all time list now! The women working there were wonderful, the donuts were a perfect mix of lightly glazed which made it crunchy on the outside, and the lightest, fluffiest, delicious inside. This morning was my first time stopping here and prob my last! Customer service was slow and not friendly at all. I asked the lady for my coffee and proceeded to ask for a pig in the blanket and she told me to hold on. After she made my coffee she asked if I wanted anything else so I ordered my PIB and a sugar donut and check out was pretty quick despite waiting a while initially. So I get in my car and go to take a bite of the PIB and it's cold! She put it in the microwave for like 5 seconds but I don't know if it's not working or what but the PIB wasn't even luke warm. It was bad. Next time I'm going to my usual donut place off Davis and Westmoreland next to the Papa John's.... even if they are out of my way. read more

Their coffee and donuts are ok. The service is decent. Their drive thru leaves a lot to be desired. It's hard to reach to pay or receive items. When it's cold they only crack the window to speak to you so it's hard to hear or understand. Overall it's quite an annoying experience for a cup of joe with a side of dough. Donuts are good and they have a great a selection of items both donuts and drinks. However, the service here is horrible. Someone needs to really go in and show these folks how to work with their source of income, which is their customer. We have been quite often and always get the same sad face as if being there is an issue. No enthusiasm and just want you out of there as soon as you walk in. After everything you ask for they say "thats all". There is a young girl that works there and is the only one that has not been corrupted by a crappy attitude, unfortunately she is not there all the time. This location is a pretty big newer facility compared to some of the other tiny drive through places. There is an outside front covered patio, a cozy inside dining room, and a traditional drive thru option. Parking spaces are very limited and customer service is something to be improved upon. They use microwaves to heat up everything. So if you are not a fan of that like me, just let them know ahead of time before they zap your food. read more
