The scheduling procedures are inconsiderate of a patient's time and health. I had an appointment with Dr. McDaniel in late January, however, I canceled due to the snowstorm that week. I rescheduled for a Friday in mid-February in the morning. I arrived 15 minutes early and waited 1 hr and 10 minutes past my appointment time (1 hr 25 minutes total) to be called back for evaluation by a tech. I was told that I wouldn't be able to see Dr. McDaniel for another hour. I inquired why it took so long to be called back for the initial evaluation and mentioned that waiting such a long time for an appointment is frustrating. The tech told me that this was due to the scheduling practices of the office. She understood the issue and said this is something that frustrates the staff too. It was then that I decided I was considered just a number by the consultants and doctors and was not being treated like a human with medical needs. At this point, I will not have cataract surgery with this group/practice. Please know that I didn't see the doctor so I don't have a review of his abilities. The front office staff and the technician were professional and honest. However, I rate the Southern Eye Group poorly and do not recommend it. read more

Long waits, dozens of other patients waiting in waiting room, hallway, no parking (had to park in the grass/mud out back), long overall visit time, 2 hours normally, just to see the Dr. for 5-10 minutes. Run and find anybody else before doing business with this group. They bug you daylight to dark with texts and phone calls. Dr. Glussman had very bad breathe, was running over an hour late and very arrogant and rude. They move you from room to room and into a dark hallway incomfortable chairs and non safe covid distances. I've been treated at Southern Eye Group by three different doctors for three separate conditions. On each occasion, the service was excellent, as was the level of care. Dr. Myers repaired my torn retina, Dr. McDaniel performed cataract surgeries, and Dr. Rowland is my continuing care Ophthalmologist. From scheduling through check-in and the actual visits, I've been treated with courtesy and professionalism. On my last visit, I walked in with a question and was worked in and seen by the doctor right away. I am very satisfied and highly recommend Southern Eye Group to anyone seeking quality eye care. I've been here many times. The staff is very nice but the wait is so frustrating. I wait at least 45 minutes just to be called back every time. They must overbook and it would be nice if they felt my time was as valuable as theirs. Two hours is far too much for a follow up. The only other complaint is the front desk staff are so loud. My husband comes here every six weeks..it is a huge office and everyone is so friendly..but the wait times can sometimes be really long ..no matter when your appt is, it is crowded. They also have an optical dept here with lots of glass choices..they have just redone the whole office so it is looking really nice now.. read more

I went in to have my eyes checked and was told I needed cataract surgery,which is what I was suspectimy. I was scheduled with Dr. McDaniels and everything went as planned for both eyes. I was well pleased to this point with the way things progressed. At the final checkup appointment, I was called and told that the O.D was sick and they rescheduled me a week later with the same doctor. They called again and asked would it okay to reschedule another appointment. Of course I said okay. Before that appointment I was called and told I had been rescheduled to see another Dr. I showed up this morning at 7:45 for an 8:00 appointment only to be told the other doctor was now sick, could they reschedule me. I told them "no" just forget it. I am not disappointed at all with Dr. McDaniels and his services but the follow up has been worse than I would expect from a vet. clinic. The dr. was great once you could finally get into see him. The wait was awful (2 hours for an eye exam) and they seem very disorganized. Plus I have insurance for all of us and it paid for 100%, but yet I have received a $10 bill for everyone of us. I have yet to find out what that is for. Not very impressed. First visit for contact lens exam, not bad. Waited maybe 45 minutes from waiting room to being seen by Dr. Wilder. No big deal. Got my new prescription and he said before finalizing it I could try for a week and if there was any problems I could come back and we would fix it. I did not like them and couldn't see very good, so I made another appointment to go back. I sat in the waiting room for an HOUR, and then another HOUR in the hallway "waiting for a room to open". Just to see an eye doctor, that wait time is ridiculous. I could not wait any longer. I made another appointment after leaving the Fairhope office that day to go to the Foley office, thought maybe they would move things a little faster. Nope.
