Food was great and fast and the staff was super friendly. Prices good for what you get. Highly recommended.

Really really really wanted to find that hidden local gem. Wanted to love this place. Service is excellent. Friendly and welcoming. House salad. Ok. Turkey: Sold out. Grilled chicken? A breast of chicken cut in 2 parts competing which one is driest. These should not be in anything called BBQ. Let alone Southern BBQ. The loaded cheese chili fries lacked flavor completely. What kinda chili is this? Hormel outta the can tastes better. Yeah! Disappointing meal. read more

Location Just off the 85 behind the Racetrack gas station Parking Large lot Service Outstanding. Hannah is AWESOME!! Never lets beverages get low. Food and beverage BBQ food specials-smoked turkey, stew, sliced beef. Home made hush puppies. We had the senior plates=@$5.00, $1 extra for tossed salad. Home made banana pudding, pecan pie, other pies offered. Pies served warm or room temperature. Beverages are fountain drinks and iced tea. There is sauce on the table-a smokey/peppery this sauce-yummy. Summary We were surprised at the value for the portions!! Outstanding service!! Traveling through and found this family owned restaurant. Great vinegar based BBQ and a welcoming staff!

A very good example of Western NC/Lexington bbq. Both the sauce and the slaw (red slaw, no mayo, thank you very much) are a little heavy on the black pepper which works well. You can't get outside brown on the chopped bbq but it's well cooked and flavorful nonetheless. Standard bbq sides. The hush puppies and onion rings are both keepers. I'm less sure about the Brunswick stew. A little thinner than I like but the real problem was the onion. There was just too much of it and it gave the stew an odd flavor. Service was very friendly and decor is Southern auto racing chic. There's a good mix of pickups and nice cars in the parking lot. Potions are VERY generous and well priced. Definitely worth the stop. read more

Great place for a southern BBQ lunch. Big on vinegar so make sure you like it if you go.

The restaurant smelled the part, but the chopped pork lacked flavor. The Banana pudding is a steer clear as there is more flavor in the banana slices than the pudding. When they tell you that you want need sauce, you will NEED sauce to have some kind of flavor. Sometimes, "hole in the wall" places are it....... Not this one sadly. read more

Traveling south for a vacation and being we are from a rival state of BBQ we decided to try Southern BBQ on the 4th of July. Our server was very hospitable and had a witty sense of humor which we very much appreciated. We ordered a Chopped BBQ sandwich, Sliced BBQ, Hushpuppies, Onion Rings and 2-Kids Burgers. Hushpuppies by far are the best we have had with a hint of sweetness. Onion Rings well fried. Kiddos Burgers were just that. The Chopped BBQ was by far better than the Sliced BBQ and needed sauce as it was a bit dry. I'd give it 3.5 but can't and we did go on the 4th so giving the restaurant a break on my sandwich as they were slammed with to-go orders. Definitely a place we would try again-especially the Hushpuppies. read more

Situated on the I85 corridor, right off the Hwy 221 exit next to QT. By far my favorite go to restaurant. I eat here 4 to 5 times a week for lunch and sometimes for supper! Ive ate BBQ and Ribs from all across the country, and I always end up back at Southern BBQ. The restaurant is run by a small family that eat, sleep, and breaths BBQ. They really make you feel like family when you come in to eat. If you arent feeling BBQ that day do not be afraid to try their fall off the bone ribs, Hot dogs, BBQ chicken, or cheese burgers. read more

Incredible. 10/10 food, 10/10 ambiance, 10/10 service. Such a gem. Glad I came here on accident!

Food was very good! The waitress was very knowledgeable about there menu. It is a fun place with all kinds of fun stuff on the walls.

My wife and were staying at the Hampton Inn Spartanburg/85 and were sick of driving so we only went here cuz we could walk to it. (Not normally the best way to choose a restaurant, I know!) Pretty unassuming place but lots of cars our front. Everyone greeted us warmly and with a smile. Turns out it is a true family run joint and it was all siblings and parents. Nascar memorabilia themed place. Menu looked like pretty standard bbq. I wanted to try the ribs but they were out (not their fault, server kindly told us its a supply issue. Just can't get good ribs. So no biggie.) I had sliced pork and turkey with slaw and beans. My wife had the sliced turkey based on server's recommendation. Food came out fast and hot. Very good bbq but the turkey was amazing. Would not have ordered that without server rec. She was great- attentive, friendly and talkative. We would have tried the homemade banana pudding but we were stuffed. Cool place with super nice people and good food. read more

Southern BBQ - Barbeque Near Me - Spartanburg, South Carolina

Got lucky with this one. I'm staying at the Hampton Inn off of the interstate. Surrounded by fast food joints here. I actually like Wendy's and Bojangles, just wasn't in the mood. Found this little spot and you never know what you'll get when you're in unfamiliar waters. The place has a southern feel, NASCAR memorabilia everywhere; old school stuff - old Texaco Havoline hood; a pick of Alan Kulwicki; Dale Jarrett; Mark Martin - sort of like walking back into 1985 -- which is cool because that's when I graduated high school and I'm a Northern boy who is a lifetime nascar fan. Ok, I digress, sorry- so the food. The food was great. Got the pulled pork, their sauce is excellent t and the pork tender. Their cole slaw has a nice mild vinegar taste, not the heavy mayo slaw. Potato salad was solid. The ladies working in here are that perfect blend of southern hospitality and genuine good people. Service was exceptional. I looked through the reviews and noticed the one star guy has left 5 reviews in his life and they're all negative. He lives in Midland Texas, so I'd be pissed too if I were him. Some people are just dicks which is too bad. This place deserves all 5 stars. -JD read more

While driving from Greenville, SC it was getting close to 3p and I was STARVING! I stopped at a gas station to take advantage of $3.45 a gallon gas! Thanks SC and right in the parking lot was Southern Barbecue. It looked like a simple building, nothing really called out for me to eat here, except of course my tummy rumbling and my low blood sugar. I thought sweet tea, hushpuppies, even if it's average, I can survive. I walked in said hello to the nice ladies. Sat down and ordered a small tray, it came with one side, baked beans! You can't eat BBQ without slaw, so I ordered a small side of slaw and some sweet tea! Sweet tea delish! Hot hushpuppies, not hushpuppies sitting under a heat lamp. Very hot baked beans. Red, vinegar slaw. Tasty, smoky BBQ. I was a happy camper, pleasantly surprised, it was a million times better than I expected. I even took a bottle of their BBQ sauce home and my lunch and the BBQ sauce were very inexpensive. I can't wait to return! read more

Day 7 - road trip - vacation food - luilnch We decided to leave North Carolina and start our road trip back toward the South. We stopped in Spartanburg, South Carolina for gas and found a quaint spot nearby called Southern Barbecue, via Yelp, of course. (Yelpers are truly the best!) I started off lunch with a Brunswick stew. I was so happy to find a fried bologna sandwich! Serious Southern eats, y'all! It was delicious! The folks shared a rib platter which came with salad, hush puppies and fries. The tot had ::insertdrumrollandeyerollhere:: chicken strips! This time, with the fries, she also got to try hush puppies. She tried one bite and said she liked them...but I don't remember whether she ate a whole one or not. I did. They were yummy. read more

This is probably my favorite place for bbq, even though I don't get a chance to eat here often. For starters my favorite is their chopped sandwich with slaw and a side of the fresh hush puppies. No matter when I stop in this place is always packed with customers but non the less I always feel like I'm the only customer because of the eager and prompt wait staff who is always friendly and ready to serve. This business is attached to a gas station but once you have a seat inside you will forget about the location. Back to the food, the bbq is always fresh with a very good smoked flavor the ideal southern smoke bbq flavor never dry always juicy. read more
