I had a great experience from DiBois to Pittsburgh. Very easy and everyone was very polite. Arrived on time and had a smooth flight. Highly recommend Southern Air. read more

Yesterday, 5/9/26, I experienced something that was humiliating, upsetting, and honestly unacceptable. I booked a flight with Southern Airways Express from Lancaster to Pittsburgh. When I arrived at the airport, I requested wheelchair assistance because I have Cerebral Palsy and need help with long distances and stairs that do not have secure railings. I was told they could provide a wheelchair inside the airport, but they could not help me board the aircraft. Staff explained that the plane required passengers to climb four steps that were secured only by rope, and they said helping me physically would be a "liability." I was then informed that because I might not be able to independently get on and off the aircraft during an emergency, I would not be allowed to fly. As a result, I had to cancel my trip completely. I later called customer service. Although the representative apologized, she told me I should have requested accommodations when booking my flight -- despite there being no option to do so during the booking process. I was also told I potentially could have been physically carried on and off the aircraft and that I should forward my concerns to their legal department. I checked the airline's website afterward and could not find any disclosure warning passengers with mobility disabilities that they may not receive boarding assistance or may be unable to fly. People with disabilities should not have to fear humiliation or uncertainty simply because they are trying to travel. Accessibility and dignity matter. I'm sharing this because others deserve to know before booking with this airline, and because situations like this should not continue happening in 2026. read more

#1. Did not know I had to call for shuttle to be picked up at terminal D. #2. Took 30 minutes to place call and get picked up. #3. Driver would not head to drop off until the van was full. It's now 9:04 and flight was to leave at 8:50. He assures us the plane will not leave without us. Very frustrating way to begin a vacation! read more

I flew Southern airways express. I never really liked them but I never had a major problem with them until today. I used them to fly into Imperial county nothing out of the ordinary. Until 1 week later when I was doing my return flight. I went to check in but nobody was there. Another person that was waiting with me called customer but they didn't know anything (kept telling him that the flight was on time and left already). An hour later I found an employee that informed me that they moved the check in location. I never received any emails about that. But they left out 1 little sign that said the check in was moved. They folded me they rescheduled my flight but they lied. read more

Don't take the chance with this small subsidized airlines. They cannot have better than a 50% rating for being ontime or cancellations. My flight got cancelled and six passengers from DFW into HOT SPRINGS were hung out to dry and find their own way to Hot Springs. I found a flight on SWA into Little Rock and got a ride back to Hot Springs. The cab fare and the ticket were not cheap! The hassle was not fun! read more

will never use this company ever again. Flight was originally delayed 1 hr, then 2 lastly 3 1/2. At first it was very windy and it was understandable. small community airport..... The wind died down, was sent another message saying we were on time. We could have gone through security and sat in that area. Ww were delayed even more when security was done right before loading. Yes security, carry ons were then xrayed. We aaked if we would make our connections. We were told yes. Well we didn't. We weren't comped any accommodations and it was Thanksgiving Eve. We had to stay at the O'Hare airport or pay $300 minimum for a hotel. No communication from staff on what was going on. Other planes were coming and going. Pilots were nice. Staff was nice. No one communicated anything! Longest 24 hours ever. Booked from DuBois, Pa to Boise, Id. I will never fly with Southern Airways Express ever again. I don't recommend staying in an airport. AVOID!!! This airline is absolutely terrible. Booked the flight because of the reasonable fare. Pay the extra money for communication, professionalism and courtesy. My wife and I live in Arizona. My wife's 83 year old mother was hospitalized in California. Trying to get her to her mother's hospital bedside took 8.5 hours. The flight was delayed almost 4 hours. The staff at the airport check in was late and said "Sorry, it's just me!" WTF! Next they delayed the departure by another 2 hours. We will NEVER fly with this incompetent company again. They deserve every negative review they have. I should have researched this company before I booked. Read the HORRIBLE reviews before you book here, in fact JUST PAY THE EXTRA MONEY FOR A REPUTABLE AIRLINE! AVOID,AVOID,AVOID! The only compliment that I can say is that my wife arrived in one piece. Negative stars in all aspects! read more

Had a terrible experience with my flight being cancelled 2 days in a row when returning home back in June. Then tried to contact them to get reimbursement for the additional costs on June 13th never heard back from them, sent a 2nd correspondence on June 21st. Finally received a call on the 22nd and gave all the information needed and was told a check will be mailed. It's now JULY 15th and nothing received. I call back just to be told the policy is 30 days for the check to be sent out. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. I'll be updating review in another 2 weeks and we'll see what happens. NEVER AGAIN!! read more

Sitting at O'Hare waiting for the flight to Quincy. Checked in over an hour ago. Supposed to have left over 45 min ago, and there is no agent at the desk to even give an update as to what's going on. Reached out to the customer support team through the website, told me "we're working on it" and hung up. I'll never fly this airline again. I'd rather drive from St. Louis than rely on this incompetent airline. Couldn't recommend enough not to fly them. TOTALLY AGREE WITH "AVOID". I've twice now have had my flights delayed to such a degree from Lancaster, PA to Washington, Dulles that I would have missed my connecting flights. The first time they did this I had to make an early morning rushed to drive to Dulles to catch my flight from there. I thought I'd play it smart this next time I booked (for today), and I booked a Lancaster to Dulles 10:15am flight, thinking that it would be fine if they delayed a couple of hours as my connecting Dulles (International Flight) wasn't leaving until 5:20pm, and I was willing to have a 6 hour layover to "hopefully" guarantee that I'd make the connection. Well, best laid plans.... I got Southern Airways' delay notification around 2am this morning saying the 10:15am flight was now delayed until 1:20pm, putting us into Dulles at 2:30pm. Assuming zero additional delays, it still would have encroached on the 3-hour TSA arrival suggestion. So, taking no chances, I again had to call Southern Airways and cancel all our flights and I'm now again driving to Washington Dulles and apparently parking for 10 days. Lovely. At least I'm not in a rush today..... Just really annoyed!! read more

Here we are again. We arrived at the airport on Friday January 5th 2024 and we were told the flight was delayed an hour. Did not receive any emails or text letting up know before hand. This is the worst airline, never consistent and not reliable. Nothing but aggravation! After dropping my wife off she waited there for hours before they decided to cancel the flight. So I had to go back to the airport and pick her up. This was the second time this has happened. We live 30 minutes away from the airport so it's a hour round trip. So again they wasted our time and money. read more

Show Low, AZ location I'd give it zero if I could. Out of 4 attempts only 1 was not canceled and there was a 4 hour delay. They cancel VERY late, 1 time they canceled at 9pm the evening before an 8 am flight! And guess what they do when they cancel? They don't automatically give you a refund, no, instead they rebook you on a bus that takes 3 times longer and leaves 2-3 hours later. You cannot count on this airline for anything. AVOID if you actually need to get somewhere. read more

My kids and I have been flying this airline round trip to both Pittsburgh and Dulles for a couple of years for several reasons. It's close to a 3-hr drive to Pittsburgh for us and could involve an overnight stay if the next flight is early morning, parking in Pittsburgh is way more expensive than the cost of the flight and I do not have to go through security or worry about my baggage. Yes, we've had some delays and unexpected cancellations but is it anymore than any other airline? I don't really think so and over the past 2 years they've gotten so much better! On top of the convenience and ease of the flight, the people are great! EVERY single person I've talked to from desk staff, security, pilots, and customer service have been great. Especially customer service! Shout out to Cynthia! We are so fortunate to have this option in our rural region; and as their reliability continues to improve I don't know why anyone wouldn't choose this option. recently had an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience with Southern Airways Express on my trip from HRO to MEM. The series of events that unfolded were not only inconvenient but also handled very poorly by the airline. Our initial flight on October 27th was delayed multiple times, finally departing hours later than its scheduled time. But the real trouble began with our return flight on October 29th, which was abruptly canceled. No alternative flights were available until the following day, and to our dismay, that flight too was canceled, leaving us with no immediate options to return home. As a smaller regional carrier, Southern Airways Express couldn't book us on another airline, leaving us to fend for ourselves. We ended up renting a car to get back home, a cost we were assured would be reimbursed by the airline. However, two weeks after submitting the necessary documentation for reimbursement, we're still left without any updates. To add to the frustration, the representative we were dealing with is no longer with the company, leading to further confusion and a breakdown in communication. The new representative we spoke to informed us that our documentation was inadequate and that we would only receive a partial reimbursement, contrary to what we were initially promised. This whole ordeal has been a testament to a lack of professionalism and customer care on the part of Southern Airways Express. The vague explanations given for the delays and cancellations, coupled with the poor handling of the reimbursement process, have left a very negative impression. I am extremely dissatisfied with the service and the lack of accountability from Southern Airways Express and would advise others to be wary of using their services, especially for important travel plans. read more

This is a complete money grab. Do not fly with these guys. I live in Show Low, Az, where Southern Airways Express is an Essential Air Service Provider. This means they receive as much as $200 per passenger from the federal government to serve the area. I had a business meeting in Los Angeles, so I booked a flight from Show Low to Phoenix and Phoenix to Orange County/SNA for a Sunday evening flight. On Saturday, I received a text message that said my flight was delayed 20 minutes. I still had time to make my connection, so no bid deal. on Sunday, one hour before departure, I received another text saying my flight was canceled and I needed to call to rebook. I called the Service Center and was told that the flight was canceled because it was too hot in Phoenix to fly the up leg. No problem, I appreciate safety. However, the operator told me that instead of using the Pilatus PC-12 which is what was on their website and my ticket, they were flying the Cessna Caravan. The Pilatus is a state of the art design, it's faster, has better range, more power, higher ceiling. it could have easily handled the flight from Phoenix to Show Low that afternoon. When I asked to rebook, I was told they did not have a flight available for five days. I was told that after they had talked to the Pilots that the flights would likely be canceled for the next several days anyway because of the high temperatures forecast in Phoenix. I was given the choice to rebook or request a refund. I needed to call a different service center for the refund. when called to ask for a refund I was told that they would be happy to give me a credit for another flight but because the flight was canceled due to weather, I was not eligible for a refund. This was not a cancelation due to weather, this was a cancelation due to an equipment change by the company. I checked the Southern Airways Express website and they say that they fly 19 Cessna Caravans with no mention of any Pilatus aircraft. The Caravan is a great plane with a long history, but it is a 40 year old design. So SAE advertises that it flys current state of the art aircraft on its booking site, when in reality it flys aircraft that cannot handle the temperatures in Phoenix. A Cessna Caravan is approximately half the cost of a Pilatus, and easily available n the used market for even less. No surprise it gets hot in Phoenix in the summer. In 2022 there were 53 days above 110 degrees. So I would bet that there are nearly two months each summer when the Caravan cannot fly the afternoon flight. SAE is required to operate a minimum of two flights per day to meet the requirements for its Essential Air Service contract with the federal government. Because of its choice of equipment for two months per year they do not meet that requirement. In short, SAE receives massive subsidies from the Feds to provide a service that it cannot because of its choice of aircraft. They will happily take your money, but not refund it when that choice of aircraft means they cannot fly. so they are earning interest in n every ticket purchased until the weather in Phoenix makes their equipment safe. Run and hide from these guys. read more

Prepare to be stranded. They cancel flights at the last minute so there's no way for you to make alternate arrangements. One flight was replaced by a shuttle, which was fine, but the other, canceled with no replacement. This happens on a regular basis on the Phoenix to Show Low route. read more

The company itself can be good, however the system is improperly trained on. High turnover rate, job isn't difficult, but expectations are too high for $11-13/hour. There's a lot of pressure on minute details and when incidents happen, they always seem to have to place the blame on the lowest seniority present. Unfortunately, the company does not believe in retaining their employees after an incident happens and instead of refreshing the employee's training, they terminate them. The second major problem was all rental car companies are closed on Sunday out of Hot Springs(god only knows why)! We could get a one way car on Monday for a whopping $1,200 one way!! Wasted over a day of my vacation dealing with this incompetent airline. 2.5 hour delay getting to destination because of a maintenance issue. Southern airways is the worst travel experience I have ever had. I had a family medical emergency (cousin in renal kidney and liver failure) that was critical that I get from Pueblo Colorado to Phoenix quickly so I decided it was worth the extra money to fly straight from Pueblo instead of going to Colorado Springs like I would normally do. Well big mistake because the airline (southern airways) from Pueblo to Denver delayed my flight 5 times resulting in missing connection in Denver to a rebook from Denver to Phoenix and then the flight was delayed again twice resulting in another missed connection. When I tried to get a refund and go to the springs and get a different flight I was informed that they could only refund my little flight from Pueblo to Denver and it would be a paper check that takes 30 days to mail and that I would have to contact the other airline myself to get a refund for the remainder since it wasn't southern. Well I didn't have to call 2 different airlines to book it. And there is zero compensation for the headache I had to go through. I was told by southern airlines that there was no law saying they had to compensate me for the nightmare and until it was a law they weren't going to do anything about it. WORST TRACEL EXPERIENCE EVER!!! Save your money and don't use southern airways no matter how convenient it seems to be. This airline frequently cancels or reschedules flights. They have no concern for passengers needing to stick to a schedule and make connecting flights. To top it off, they give less than a 24 hour notice for cancellations and will reschedule you for their next flight out without confirming your availability to be there. Be forewarned!! This is the most frustrating, poorly run commuter plane business EVER! Rent a car or even walk...it would be more efficient. I purchased a ticket from ShowLow airport to Phoenix, where I was to catch a connecting United flight from. They canceled my flight just hours before (said mechanical on plane) which left me scrambling to change all my other flight plans. So I had no other choice but to book the next day and rearrange everything (with much hassle). The next day I drove to the airport for my flight and as I pulled up to the airport I received a text telling me that my was cancelled AGAIN! But they offered me a shuttle and moments later it, too, was cancelled! Ugh!!! Long story short, and more cancellations, it took 5 days for me to get out of there....but still not by plane! They did provide a shuttle for me to Phoenix (3hour ride) with a red eye flight on the other end of it. Whole experience was physically and mentally exhausting. To exasperate the whole experience, they only have an 800 number to call.... No way to reach anyone at the local airport (which is a small desk). So you never get anyone who really knows what is going on OR what your chances of getting another flight really are. There is absolutely no concern for the customer's plans or inconvenience. I can't understand "why" a company this big (website shows commuter planes all over the US, especially the Hawaiian islands) cannot have a plane they can bring in when they have "mechanicals"?!! read more

Despite choosing Southern Airways Express to fly my mother to Atlanta, GA on May 28, 2023, for her birthday, both she and I were subjected to such abysmal customer service upon her return. 3:26 pm - I received a flight-delayed text and email stating the plane would leave at 9:15 pm 6:30 pm - We arrived at Atlanta- Hartfield Airport to drop her off. 7:54 pm - I received another flight-delayed text and email stating that the plane would leave at 9:45 pm 9:49 pm - My mother called me and stated that she had heard that the flight had been canceled, so we began calling Southern Airways Express's customer service line for solutions. There was no attendant or aid on site to help them at all. At this point, there were 10 others, along with my mother, waiting without proper notification of the flight being canceled. I never received a text or email notifying me of this information as I had received for the delayed flights. I made my first call and received a call back from MICHELLE. I asked Michelle whether the plane was canceled and why hadn't I received a notification just as I did for the previous delays, she kept saying that "a notification was sent". I did not receive a notification until 10:21 pm as shown in the screenshot below (I am assuming she sent it while we were on the phone). By that time, my mother had been waiting 3 hours without assistance or options. They were left stranded without reassurance or any on-site assistance. I asked Michelle, if could they put my mother on the SOUTHWEST AIRLINES 8:30 am flight that I had found myself and if she could be put in a hotel covered by Southern Airways Express for the night. She stated that Southern Airways Express had plans to fly the group on SOUTHWEST AIRLINES to Memphis and shuttle them to Jackson, TN, but there were no more flights available that night. She put me on hold to ask her supervisor CASEY and came back to report that CASEY denied my request for them to prepay for a hotel and switch my mother the Southwest Airlines. The only option she offered was to rebook my mother for 2:30 pm the next day which is unsatisfactory especially when Southern Airways did not pre-pay for hotel rooms and she had already been there since 6:30 pm that day. You can not expect people to cover their own rooms without any guarantee of reimbursement and only word of mouth. Michelle indicated that Southern Airlines would only compensate up to $120 plus $75 for fuel for a rental, which is inadequate for a drive from Atlanta, GA to Jackson, TN, a six-hour journey. As a result, Michelle became annoyed and hung up in my face. Feeling anxious and deveated, because I had to catch a flight myself back home and I was leaving my mother without help from Southern Airways Express, I called back to try to resolve the issue again. By this time, it is 10:30 pm and my mother notified me that she and another person will be getting a rental car because no one was giving them direct reassurance that they would help them get home. In the middle of the night they had to make a 5 and half hour drive home with 4 other strangers that could not speak English (they needed help and didn't even know the flight was canceled), including a child to Jackson, TN. They arrived home at 5:00 am. I told the customer service rep SAM that I would like a refund for the full amount of the flight, due to the inconvenience of the experience and she told me "If that is what you are choosing", I mentioned to her that I am not choosing anything, Southern Airwyas has left us no choice. She declined the full amount and put in a request to offer $90. Since then, no one has reached out to either of the passengers to further offer any compensation or resolve the issue. I called today, May 31, 2023, to request a full refund for the amount again and MARIDA stated that her supervisor VAL would investigate as I was put on hold. She returned and declined my request based on her investigation of falsified and miswritten notes by MICHELLE, SAM, AND CASEY. She instructed me to write an email for a proper investigation of the events that took place Sunday, May 28, 2023. She mentioned that recordings of calls would be reviewed, as they should. As I look at reviews on Trip Advisor, I see that this happens often and Southern Airways Express should be ashamed of how they treat customers, small airline or not. Had a flight booked to fly out 5/14 so we could catch a flight in Phoenix. The night before, the flight was cancelled. This left us scrambling for a solution. The solution they offered was a shuttle that would leave an hour after we were to leave on our flight in Phoenix (3.5 hour drive). We had to rent a car and drive. On the return trip back 5/20... similar situation except the flight was delayed, delayed again, and then cancelled while we were waiting at the airport. This is 110% unexceptable. If it happens once and a great while, that is understandable. But not with this airline, there are more cancelled flights than flights that actually happen. FLYER BE WARNED!!! On 01/25/24 I was notified that my flight from KOA to OGG was cancelled. I called to see what could be done and the representative had no solutions for me other than to cancel my entire trip a week and a half before when I already had accommodations paid for. When I asked if they could book me on a Hawaiian Airlines flight to connect to my OGG to LNY flight they said they don't do that. After searching on my own, I found a flight out of MUE and called to book that instead. This was an option that was never presented to me from the original agent for reasons in which I am unsure. On 02/03/24 I received notification that my LNY to OGG flight was being pushed back and I would miss my connecting flight from OGG to MUE. I called and spoke with a representative who told me this was an "operational issue" and could not get me back to Waimea on 02/04/23. She instead offered to fly me to HNL then booked me on a Hawaiian Airlines flight (something I had previously been told was impossible) to KOA and then Uber me from KOA to MUE to get my vehicle. I agreed to this even though it was going to cause me to get home several hours later than my original flight schedule. I awoke to several missed calls and texts the morning of 02/04/24 as whoever scheduled the Uber for us apparently scheduled it for pick up at midnight on 02/04/24 instead of giving us a flex link the tell the Uber when we had arrived. As I am arriving to the airport on 02/04/24 I received a notification that my LNY to HNL flight was delayed. I spoke with the gate agent and she deferred me to the customer service line. After an extended period of time on the phone with the representative the solution was to continue with my LNY to HNL flight but that I would miss any and all connecting flights back to Big Island by the time my flight arrived in HNL. At this point I had to contact my manager and tell her both myself and my husband would be missing work. This agent told me that she had approval to book me a hotel in HNL but that I needed to wait until I was sure my flight was going to arrive in LNY and to call shortly before boarding... as if I am more privy to this information than your organization. Regardless, I called back after the gate agent stated the plane would be arriving in 20 min after we were delayed an additional hour WITH NO COMMUNICATION from Southern via the gate agent, email, or text and was told that I now needed to wait until my plane landed for them to book our hotel room. We then arrived at nearly 9 PM to have to sit outside at the terminal while yet another representative booked us a hotel room and scheduled an Uber to transport us there. This took nearly an hour of just sitting at the airport waiting when this could have been arranged prior to our landing. Once in the Uber, the driver took us to the pre arranged location... which was a shipyard. This was the location that was set for him by your employee. I had to ONCE AGAIN call and put the representative on the phone with the Uber driver who was adamant that the address was correct and it was not until my husband piped in saying when he typed the address in it also showed the shipyard that the representative realized whoever made the reservation mistyped a number on the street address. Now we are exhausted and that much later getting to a bed that is not even our own. We should've been home by now, sleeping in our own bed. The hotel ended up charging a resort fee to my card that was put on file for damages/incidentals which should've been charged to Southern. We then go to take our Hawaiian Airlines flight that their representative booked for us only to find out my boarding pass does not match my ID because your representative forgot the "t" in my last name. Yet, another hassle. Finally, finally... we arrive back on Big Island at the Kona airport and are waiting for our Uber to take us an hour drive to the Waimea airport except he can't find us. Why? Because whoever made the Uber arrangements told him to pick us up at the rental car area instead of the Ride Share pick up. Do Not Fly with this Airline! I repeat do not, just choose spirit or Frontier. My first flight was very rocky, the process is totally unprofessional. My second flight was cancelled due to bad weather, I had to book a oneway with Southwest home the same day and they still haven't given me a refund. The customer service representatives are unprofessional, the lady Mai Lien literally yelled through the phone because I wanted to see how I would be refunded for a flight they canceled. Poor service they should not be allowed to service the public, and they're stealing money. If O don't get my refund I will be reporting to the Better Business Bureau! read more
