Date of Visit: Mother's Day - 15/3/26…read more Visiting the Abbey Hotel was Hobson's choice, as the kids had eft it late to book anywhere else locally. Let's start with the positive: All the staff were great. Friendly, helpful and attentive. This had been booked in the end by my wife (the mother in question) - :-) However, I was the one paying and asking questions. For example, I couldn't find the menu for the specific day, cost £39 per head - Total Cost for 6 people £234. I was sent a link, and the list was as follows: Starters & Salads Cured meats Hummus Smoked mackerel - NOT PRESENT Prawn Marie Rose - NOT PRESENT Mini quiches Fresh breads - ONE SORT ONLY - BUT VERY NICE Mixed leaf Caesar potato salad Coleslaw - NOT PRESENT Tomato Cucumber Carvery Mains Turkey - NOT PRESENT - LEARNT SUBSEQUENTLY CHICKEN WAS AVAIL IF REQUESTED Honey glazed gammon Topside of beef - VERY TOUGH TO EAT Served with Roast new potatoes Pigs in blankets Stuffing Yorkshire pudding - FLATEST I'VE EVER SEEN Gravy, Peas - NOT PRESENT Sweetcorn - NOT PRESENT Cauliflower cheese Honey glazed carrots, Honey roast parsnips Tenderstem (sic!) broccoli Desserts Profiteroles Apple crumble & custard - ACTUALLY PEACH CRUMBLE ON THE SIGN Carrot cake Chocolate fudge cake On a normal Sunday Lunch this would have been your offering on the website: Chef's executive choice of Sunday lunch, with all the trimmings! 3 Courses for just £25.95 Basically, the same Sunday roast! I asked what's the difference between the two and got the reply: "For the Mother's Day Sunday Lunch you are given a glass of prosecco with your lunch." To which I replied: "Thanks for getting back to me. So, each guest gets a glass of prosecco? At £13.05 a glass..... It had better be a good prosecco! :-) " I never got a reply to that e-mail. What happened on the day was that the mother got a 175ml of prosecco. So, I paid £78.30 for a glass of prosecco!!!! Overall, the meal was rather mediocre. I paid a further £50+ for additional drinks - I can't be exact as I didn't keep the receipt. Lesson learnt - Don't leave booking a good venue too late for special occasions.

The superfast wifi is more akin to dial-up, maybe its a retro twist they're aiming for. Shocking price for what you get.
