Date of Visit: Mother's Day - 15/3/26.
Visiting the Abbey Hotel was Hobson's choice, as the kids had eft it late to book anywhere else locally.
Let's start with the positive: All the staff were great. Friendly, helpful and attentive.
This had been booked in the end by my wife (the mother in question) - :-) However, I was the one paying and asking questions.

On a normal Sunday Lunch this would have been your offering on the website:
Chef's executive choice of Sunday lunch, with all the trimmings!
3 Courses for just £25.95
Basically, the same Sunday roast!
I asked what's the difference between the two and got the reply:
"For the Mother's Day Sunday Lunch you are given a glass of prosecco with your lunch."
To which I replied:
"Thanks for getting back to me. So, each guest gets a glass of prosecco?
At £13.05 a glass..... It had better be a good prosecco! :-) "
I never got a reply to that e-mail.
What happened on the day was that the mother got a 175ml of prosecco.
So, I paid £78.30 for a glass of prosecco!!!!
Overall, the meal was rather mediocre.
I paid a further £50+ for additional drinks - I can't be exact as I didn't keep the receipt.
Lesson learnt - Don't leave booking a good venue too late for special occasions. read more
