Location wise, it's around five minutes from New St or Snow Hill stations and very central. It's as close as you get to a leafy spot in central Birmingham. The reception is stripped down, with self check-in and an assistant to help. Breakfast and dinner are provided in the adjacent Beefeater (named "Bar & Block"). The rooms are pretty standard, but quite well soundproofed, and I didn't suffer from external noise or that from other rooms. Free wifi was perfectly adequate for email and messaging. The beds are very comfortable, though neither the 'soft' or standard 'hard' pillows quite do it for me. The problem for sleeping, however, was the noise of the heating/cooling unit fan - an irritating whine which meant I had to turn it off to go to sleep and then awoke at 4am too warm. There was also a peculiar, intermittent watery noise, which I presume was someone flushing or washing elsewhere in the building, though it may have been the air-conditioning. Breakfast was ok, a fairly standard buffet, though Europeans would bemoan the lack of cheese and cold meats. I returned from getting a second cup of coffee to find the waitress clearing away the toast I had just buttered, although she apologised and offered to get me another. So, ok for the price (£118 including breakfast on a weeknight) but not outstanding value given the imperfect sleep.

Premier Inn is considered to be a budget chain hotel. However, having stayed at several of their…read morehotels in the last year, I have to say that I'm most impressed. The website is clear, comprehensive and it's easy to compare several nearby hotels to choose the most suitable one. My family and I stayed at this Premier Inn in Birmingham city centre earlier this year to attend the All England Badminton finals at the National Indoor Arena. The hotel is perfectly located in the city centre, close to all the shops and restaurants but only 20 minute walk along a pedestrianised route from the NIA. There is some metered parking outside the hotel but for longer term parking, it's best to use one of the many public car parks nearby. We used the Brunel Street car park which is a 5 minute walk away and cost around £8 for 24 hours on a Sunday. Check in is a funny affair with self service machines to enter your details but with very eager staff hovering to help. This hotel is very well staffed with helpful people and I'm not really sure why they don't just use a traditional check in system. The rooms were big and like other Premier Inns I've stayed at, quite modern and updated. There was a problem with the shower door in one of the rooms but we were given a new room immediately. The beds were comfortable. There was a nice looking on-site restaurant but we chose to eat out. This hotel satisfied both the CTG (Chinese Thrift Gene) and the CQG (Chinese Quality Gene)!

The staff was very friendly and helpful and the meeting space was very good, not large, but just right for our conference and meetings. The breakfast buffet was pretty standard fare and the restaurant staff was great. Lunch at the conference was also good. The bartenders were good, but they have a very limited selection of whiskey/whisky, which was surprising. It's also a cashless hotel. There are other shops and restaurants not too far away.

Check in was very speedy and the staff were welcoming. We were located on the second floor and there are stairs or one lift. I would imagine that waiting for the lift may present difficulties during busy periods, but it was fine when we were there. The bathroom was modern and well equipped with bath and shower and separate shower attachment. Complimentary shower gel/bath gel and soap was provided (Arran Aromatics). The bedroom was very nicely fitted and the bed was comfortable and had additional pillows located in the wardrobe. There was a flat screen TV and a writing desk and an iPod docking station. There was also tea and coffee making facilities. The temperature control was great. We had a bed and breakfast rate of £38 per night for a double room (brililant value) and the breakfast was lovely. There was a choice of fresh fruit, fruit salad, juices, pastries, cereals and full English breakfast. All nicely cooked and hot. If you fancied a quick coffee, there is a Starbucks located in the main lobby where you can get a snack and a coffee. There is also the Pub where you can get pub food as well as The Verve Grill for dinners. They have some excellent value deals on meals. One of the offers in The Pub was their Friday night "Burger Me" deal where you could get a burger for £1. The hotel also has a fully equipped leisure centre with pool and use is included in the price. We had a lovely stay and wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

Easy to get to 2 local train stations (Solihull and Shirley) for a reasonable taxi fee. Easy to get to Birmingham city and Touchwood shopping center via public transportation. It's does not offer on-site breakfast -- no problem, there's a Costa and a Wetherspoons in the same block offering great coffee and all. We did have a problem with the heat and it was immediately addressed by the very customer oriented front desk staff who somehow transmitted the problem to the next shift who double-checked it was resolved. In room coffee and tea available using the kettle. Free wi-fi was adequate for our usage (mostly social media). Beds were a trifle firm but they had lots of extra pillows to loan us. We enjoyed a couple of late evening meals in the attached Saracens Head Inn. We would definitely stay again.

5 Star Country House Hotel... What more do I need say?…read more But I will say something, no point in doing a review other wise ;o) I stayed at this Country Hotel a number of times quite a few years ago. At the time it was like stepping into another world, a 5 Star world. Set in acres of rural countryside it gives you the feeling of being Lord or Lady of the manor. The rooms are in affect self contained luxury apartments. The AA two rosettes restaurant provides a variety of menu options both at lunch and for dinner. From a two course lunch to a seven course evening meal there will always be something to suit you on offer. The staff are always polite and attentive and the service they deliver is exemplary. I would highly recommend staying here and sampling the high life even if it's just for one night.

Absolutely Superb…read more Spent our wedding night here, and leading up to our marriage, went once per month. It is our all time favourite place to eat. I can't fault the place. Give it a go even if for the one off special event. Sorry, sounds like an advert.... The credit crunch has bitten us a bit, so don't get there that often. "Nuthurst Grange is highly rated in all the hotel and food guides with 3 Rosettes and 3 Red Stars awarded from the AA. It has also added Restaurant of the Year to its many accolades."

We recently went to a party and instead of getting a taxi home decided to book into one of the…read moresmall hotels/guest houses in the area. The one we chose was The Bunbury Hotel, for no other reason than this was the closest one to the party and we wouldn't have to stumble too far. The double room we were given was spotlessly clean with clean, fresh bed linen and had obviously been cleaned prior to our arrival. There is plenty of storage in the wardrobe and chest of drawers, although we were only staying for the one night so just had a single change of clothes with us which ended up being 'put away' on the floor anyway! Breakfast was served in a lovely little dining room downstairs; we had a choice of cereals and fruit plus a delicious English breakfast was brought to us a few minutes later which was beautifully cooked and just what I needed after all the vodka I'd downed the previous night. Coffee was plentiful too, for which I was grateful! The couple who run The Bunbury Hotel are very approachable and seemed to want to make our stay a good one, they're under no illusions that this is a small out of the way hotel so were keen for us to tell our friends about it as presumably it's word of mouth that keeps this type of place going.

Its entrance is sort of squeezed in between a KFC and a Subway. It's directly across from a Sainsbury with large bright signage. There is easy access to frequent buses to Birmingham. Route 50 is off to the right of the hotel and runs buses every 4 minutes into the bullring area of Birmingham city. I took a bus and a rail to Queen Elizabeth hospital several times. Took less than 40 minutes. (They may still be laughing over the American woman who got confused momentarily and asked for a return ticket to King's Landing instead of King's Norton.) You can either purchase full breakfast with your room or not. Sainsbury's across the street was more to my liking for a minimal breakfast of coffee and a sandwich. I did use the hotel's breakfast on occasion and found the variety impressive: coffee machine producing espresso drinks, a boil-your-own egg machine, scrambled eggs, beans, toast, danish, dry cereals, several types of yogurt and juice, and small packages of cheese. I had an issue with a window that wouldn't close and was easily moved to another room (with staff assistance). The staff made my return taxi reservation (much appreciated). This hotel was extremely clean in both the public areas and in the rooms. Thank you for that. Free wi-fi had a decent signal. I don't know how long this has been a Best Western: google maps will show it as a Travelodge and then show it also as a Best Western.

We hired the whole hotel for 24 hours and these were a great 24 hours. The food served in the duration were great we also had people stop the night before the weding and the day and night after and the service was still top notch. The award winning food is great and a good mixture of drinks are available. Lovely leisure centre and spa and beautiful topiary gardens and views. Highly recomended either as a wedding venue, hotel, restaurant even to pop in for a cup of tea and cake! Lovely, welcoming reception staff. The hotel has a warm welcoming feeling and is very historical inside expecially the wooden pannelling and the beautiful room 4 with the hidden priest hole! We will definitly be celebrating our wedding anniversaries here!

When hotels list their amenities, like... - Alarm Clock…read more- Hair dryer - High-speed Internet access - Housekeeping ...I feel like there should be a special section for dumb people like me, with a reminder about the many differences between the Holiday Inn Express in the States, vs Holiday Inn Express (or really many hotels in England/Europe). It's nice that they leave you that note in the bathroom reminding you that they have extra toiletries downstairs...forgot your toothbrush, your razor, maybe some feminine stuff?? They've got it downstairs for you and would be glad to help you out. Awesome, but here's what's different...When I go overseas, I'm always reminded of that episode of the "Dave Chappelle Show" where he suggests that "White people don't use washcloths..." Where are the washcloths, really? Don't worry Holiday Inn Express, so many hotels are like that...And then when I want to wash my face, there is no bar soap, just this a pumpable reservoir of liquid soap fastened to the wall. Okay, I get it...but now it's shower time. Look around and there's another reservoir filled with hair shampoo, face soap, and liquid deodorant soap...Wait, it's all the same stuff!! Okay, the rant is over...the fact is, I enjoyed staying here... __________________ Notes: -The staff was EXTREMELY helpful...whether it be in arranging transportation, suggesting local restaurants & shopping, etc...or even one night around 1AM, I needed to purchase a some computer accessories, and not only did they arrange a taxi for me, but they called one of few places in Birmingham that was open 24 hour to make sure the item was in stock, etc... - There is a hotel bar down stairs...open until around 4AM...note that late in the evening, you MUST bill your drinks to your room as they no longer accept cash or credit card payment. - Breakfast was pretty reasonable, and like all Holiday Inn Express locations, it was included in the cost of your stay. - Location was about 5 minutes away from the NEC...great! But keep in mind that the way that this part of Birmingham is laid out, nothing is within walking distance...there is one restaurant, but everything else seemed at least 10-20 minutes away... - Wireless internet is expensive at £15 for 24 hours...there are different rates, but there are limitations... - The hotel was otherwise, quite budget friendly... - The special wipes on the back of the toilet, for the ladies, was a nice touch...
