They're great we love Dr Williamson and their prices as far as vets go are great, straightforward with what is required what is not.

Had a friend bring his sick bird there after 10 years of service and they gave her the wrong medicine and killed her. Once he brought her home she started to breathe heavily and go into respiratory failure. They gave the bird a dose of the medicine prescribed and 15 minutes later the bird died. Upon returning to the vet to try and talk to Dr. Schunk the office told him that he was irite and needed to go get coffee when he was only very upset and reacting from the death of his bird. The office called the police and told him he was not to return to the vet office, call or write or even come into the town of Wilton. What a disgrace to mankind when he lost his best friend with no closure or explanation. After 10 years of taking his bird there and this is what he is left with ? I would never recommend this vet to anybody after seeing what this friend of mine went thru. South Wilton Vet and Dr. Schunk should be ashamed of themselves how dare you don't contact the bird's owner and give your condolences, closure any explanation at all. I have exotic pets, one is pretty averse to be handled. The other has some serious medical needs. The staff at South Wilton have been so wonderful with my beloved animals and with me, guiding me through some difficult situations. Well if you come here you're gonna be waiting like 5 hours here! Because they look at your animal examine them and then take about 2 hours just to process the medication I mean I have a rabbit not a pack of wild bores! For crying out loud Dr Maxwell is phenomenal but the rest of the staff is slacking on the job because everything takes so long here. Well that's why I'm giving this review Dr Maxel is badass but everyone else like come on put a pep into your steep for crying out loud here I didn't know this was a human hospital? I have two birds that I have had for about a year, and I was so happy to have a vet near me that was able to look at them and give me any information I needed with being a new bird owner. They were able to help me with good diet advice and other information to make sure my birds would live a happy and healthy life! They also were able to see one of my birds ASAP when I thought he hurt his foot during the night. The booking process is also my FAVORITE! As someone who forgets to call / hates making calls I can very easily schedule any type of appointment online through their website! They're also very quick to respond to any emails regarding questions and or concerns regarding my bird boys. Wish I could give more than 5 stars! First off, I wish I could give 0 stars. THIS PLACE IS ALL ABOUT MONEY AND DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE ANIMALS! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE! I called them just about 9 am about a sick bird that needed to be seen. They gave me an appointment for that morning for 10:20. I told them that I have never been there and that I was about an hour's drive from them. They said they do not book any appointments without a $50 deposit paid up front. I gave them my credit card information over the phone and booked the only appointment that they had that day for 10:20. After I paid, she said that they would be emailing me a couple of forms that needed to be completed before they would see me. I completed both forms online as quickly as I could, this took me about 10 minutes to complete. I then packed my sick bird up and left. I had an hour to get there. Well, I got stuck in a big traffic jam in Danbury which put me back about 15-20 minutes. I called them to let them know that I was going to be about 15-20 minutes late because I was stuck in traffic, and she told me that if I was more than 10 minutes late that they wouldn't see my bird and I would have to reschedule to another day. I told her again, that my bird was very sick and that I called multiple avian vets and that they were the only ones that had an available appointment and I had just spent about an hour driving there and was STUCK in traffic which affected me getting there. She then put me on hold and then came back and said that she checked with the doctor and if I am more than 15 minutes late I need to reschedule. They called me back at 18 minutes and I told them that my gps said I was less than a minute away and they told me sorry, we won't see your bird today. You will need to reschedule. I literally pulled in the parking lot 30 seconds later and after driving over an hour and having a sick bird they charged me a $50 missed appointment charge and refused to see my sick bird! These people DO NOT CARE AT ALL about people's pets. I offered to stay and wait as long as needed or to drop my bird off so that could examine her when they had time and I was told no. They kept my $50 deposit and charge me for a missed appointment. THIS PLACE IS ALL ABOUT MONEY AND DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE ANIMALS! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE! read more

A friend who works in the pet business told me this is THE place to go if you have an extremely sick pet, one with an unusual disease or an exotic animal. He said the care is top notch, but they are extremely expensive and you are overpaying for routine care and minor problems. I see a few other reviews say that price doesn't matter. Lucky you! I scheduled an appointment to bring my dog in during my lunch hour from work. There was no one else in the waiting area. Just me, my dog and the bird in the corner. It was 40 minutes before we saw the vet. Maybe they were doing surgery, maybe having lunch, who knows. My issue is, if you can't honor your appointment time, at least have the courtesy to notify me that you're running behind and I can reschedule. The lack of respect for MY time bothered me. When they took my dog in the back, I asked them to trim his nails. After having spent over $600 on one relatively minor but ongoing issue and wasting 1/2 hour in the waiting room, I was shocked to be charged another $17 for the nail trim. This service USED TO BE FREE with an office visit. How long does it take for the vet tech to cut a dog's nails, 1 minute?? (BTW, $17 for 1 minute's work equals an hourly rate of $1020). I mentioned to the woman at the checkout that nail trims had always been complimentary and was told, "Well, not anymore". I was offended. I've been a long time customer and have used them for many pets over the years. This left me seriously doubting if I want to continue with this group. It just seems they have become a money making machine. The facility itself is beautiful, clean, geographically convenient and ultimately care is good, which is why I keep going (despite the high prices). However, being nickel and dimed to death, prolonged wait time, along with the lack of appreciation or recognition for years of patronage is frustrating to say the least. It may be time to re-evaluate. Addendum: I started this review years ago but never completed it. Since then, my dog had to be euthanized during Covid. This facility offered to do it on the picnic table outside. No thank you. I opted to go with Final Journey who were PHENOMENAL and came to my home (during Covid) for our fur baby's final moments. I've been wanting to update my previous thoughts but they pretty much remain the same. Beyond exorbitant pricing for standard 3D care. And I would not mind that one bit had my fur babies been properly diagnosed in the 3D world. Alas, that failed to happen despite paying thousands of dollars and being forced to go elsewhere for answers and solutions. If you want to maintain this pricing level, you simply must add in services to complement where 3D fails - Reiki, Animal Telepathy, Acupuncture, Laser Therapy, Chiropractic, Qi Gong, etc. etc. etc. The world is changing and evolving and these limited ways of medical care simply don't fit the bill any longer along with the big pharma let's mask the sickness vs. find the solution nonsense. read more

We discussed various treatment plans and pros and cons of each but more importantly *why* there is controversy in avian medicine about my bird's condition. I am totally disappointed in their not calling back with test results. Even after I called and left messages 1 and 2 days after they said they would call. They are one of the most expensive vets in Connecticut. After being lied to and ignoring multiple messages they came up with bullshit excuses 4 days later. I still haven't been given the test results. I was just told once again the vet will call me later today. I'll believe that if it ever happens. I will update if I receive or don't receive a call as promised once again. Almost $400.00 for this last visit. No on deserves to be mistreated like this. I can only imagine how badly they treat our pets ( family members) behind closed doors. I recommend finding another vet before taking your pet to them. The stupid vet called my ex-wife instead of me. Unethical. Disgusting. They are clearly looking for opportunities to make money. That is how I would describe this place. I brought my 7 year old holland lop rabbit in two weeks ago knowing that she was on her last legs. She wasn't spayed and that is about the lifespan of a rabbit that is unspayed. She had that smell permeating my house and other behavior indicated that she was suffering. My three kids knew that her time was near. I brought her to south Wilton vet letting them know she was dying and said so. The dr said no I don't think so. Well, he says, she could also have uterine cancer and she is elderly. We recommend running the bloodwork and getting X-rays. He said at least you should get the bloodwork and then we can put her on antibiotics. We highly recommend this and then she will be fine. I looked at him and said "really? Don't you think she is dying?" He continued on saying that we should get the more expensive bloodwork so that we get the right antibiotics. My kids and I walked in and were ready to say goodbye to our pet but the dr was telling us no and that we needed to do this treatment at over $300. We'll we felt compelled and he played on our love for our pet. We left with antibiotics which I gave our Lilly and watched her suffer as she urinated all over herself. The smell, the suffering...my kids and I all watched this. It was the worst week of our lives watching this poor rabbit suffer. I called the vet two days after we saw him and told him that she isn't getting better and that we truly believe she is dying. He responded that it takes a week for the antibiotic to kick in and that on Monday we should have xrays done. He just shut me down again to make more money!!! I called on Monday and demanded we euthanize Lilly. The day it was scheduled, Tuesday, she passed (less than a week after our initial visit). I called and told the office and to cancel the apt because she passed on her own and they were less than compassionate. The office manager backed up the dr's actions and said he made the right calls in this case. Like other reviewers have said, this is the last place you want to bring your pet because their number one goal is to make a buck at yours and your pets expense. read more

I'm updating my original review (last one from 2013). I am still extremely happy with the service Dr. Fahy has provided. We've been customers of South Wilton for 17 years now (my oldest dog is now 17 and has been seeing Dr. Fahy since 8 weeks old). I now also bring my two youngest dogs to SWVG, as well as my guinea pig. They take great care of my babies. I used to consider the pricing slightly higher than other clinics I considered switching to, but truthfully it's all relative. The level of care and in-clinic service is why the price is what it is, so it's worth it. I'd still recommend SWVG read more

It took me a few years to write this because of how upset I am over the loss of my rabbit. I spent thousands upon thousands of dollars here on my rabbit who was repeatedly getting cysts and then eventually cancer. I was driving over 2 hours one way to this vet consistently for a long time. At our last visit, we were told the cancer spread and she wouldnt have long to live. A few days later we realized she sadly needed to be put to rest. She stopped eating and using the bathroom and was very ill and suffering. I called the vet and asked if we could take her in and they "couldn't fit us in" for a few days. I was begging them to take us after all the business we've given them and they wouldnt budge. They couldn't have cared less. I took the appointment and then frantically was calling other local doctors to see if I could get something sooner. A TOTAL stranger was willing to come to my house after hours at the practice to euthanize her. By the time they arrived she was gone. I called South Wilton to tell them we would be cancelling our appointment because she passed and there was no, I'm sorry or anything , just okay thanks. The stranger doctor sent us a sympathy card and we never heard from South Wilton again. These people only care about money and I did suspect over the years they were over- testing and charging. I would take your beloved pets somewhere where the people are compassionate. I would give less than 1 star if I could. read more

Loyal customer for almost 9 yers. Dr Robertson is the best and so is Dr Fahy. However both doctors are always booked and this place NOW feels like a corporation versus a local office. I have had two encounters with Dr Rosen lately and i cant recommend her. IMO She is all about billing and making money. I felt manipulated..if it were my dog I would run these tests. $599 check up. Seriously sick dog today and she completely wasted my time. I asked for my dog back and couldn't get him for 30 minutes. He needed a hospital and no one was able to get my dog outside to me. We'll I can't complain about the quality of the care given by their Veterinarians' , they aren't necessarily better than any other vet that I've been too. I can say that they WAY over charge for their services. I brought my two healthy dogs in for a yearly exam and shots -- the bill came to over $800!!! I was shocked. Those prices are close to double what I have paid in the past. There are other Vets in the area that provide as good a quality of service, without the out of the ballpark prices. Seriously, ridiculous pricing. Yes, they have a nice waiting room, but not worth those insane fees. Yes, you should never shy away at the best care for a higher price. This WAS my regular vet. I took my dog there because his eye turned red. They diagnosed him and recommend I take him to an eye specialist. I did and the visits at the specialist and the ultimate surgery the specialist recommended were extremely expensive. I only later found out that there is an eye specialist right in Wilton. I didn't appreciate only being given one recommendation (and a very expensive recommendation at that) for a specialist and not given options. I also felt very judged when the veterinarian called two days later and was concerned why I hadn't brought my dog to the specialist yet. read more

Once upon a time the vets were helpful but over the years, they seem to be more goal oriented in driving up visit costs vs providing the best care for your pets. They either ignored concerns we had or created false panic in an attempt to press us to run more tests or buy into treatment options. These past few days I have been calling to pull vet records for our pets because we want to change vets and now have to euthanize a beloved pet because they misdiagnosed him 1.5 years ago. some of the girls at the front desk have the most disgusting attitude despite my polite demeanor. This practice is nothing short of amazing. The doctors are clearly very knowledgeable and thorough in their diagnosis and recommendations, and they clearly explain what's going on to their patients. I've recently had an overwhelmingly positive experience with Dr. Maxwell, who handled my case with the utmost empathy, care and respect to the point of personally calling to check in on my pet after our appointments. Let me preface this by saying that I wish I could give 0 stars. I took my hamster who fell in her cage, dented her jaw and was bleeding to this vet. I knew she was dying and this was the only place that would take her. They asked if I would pay for an X-ray that they never took. She said that my hamster was not eating for a few days and that's why she was having a hard time breathing. However, they never said anything about her jaw that was dented and the blood. She told me that they would put her on antibiotics and I could come back in few hours. When I came back she still wasn't better because she didn't need antibiotics to begin with. She hurt herself and they were telling me BS to get more money out of me. I was so frantic and didn't want to believe that my hamster was dying, so I would've paid and believed anything they said to me. Even though I knew my hamster fell in her cage and hurt herself while I was asleep. When they put her down they said it was 61 dollars to cremate her and I WOULD'NT get her ashes. However, if I wanted her ashes it was 206 dollars. Then they took the X-ray off my bill, not because they are good people, but because they never opened the box to look at her. If they opened the box they would have seen the dent in her jaw and the blood. Instead when they had to euthanize her they finally saw that she hurt herself. I hate how they tried to charge me for things that they weren't actually doing. As well as, keeping my dying hamster in a box with terrible people who never even looked at her until they had to put her down. Do not believe the good reviews on google because I promise you everyone who works there is cold hearted and money hungry. I know in my heart that they never opened the box until they had to put her down, and that's just sad for me to think about. read more

This is a sad, sad story, true, long but worth reading if you intend to bring any of your loved pets to this place. We were going to South Wilton Vet group for a couple of years and thought all was great. One of our dogs, Teddy Bear, a soft coated wheaten terrier, who was about 2 years of age, was being walked outside of the house, and fell on top of Teddy. Teddy mauled my husband, which required me to rush out and help my husband. Ambulance was necessary as the bites were many and deep. We even had a Quarantine Order from the local police. When we told our Vet about this, they never suggested that we bring Teddy in for a work up as he was the sweetest and loving dog you could imagine. Totally out of character. We advised the Vet that any type of noise was setting him off. I also advised the Vet that when I ran out to help my husband and grabbed the leash, that Teddy's head was spinning from left to right. About a week later, Teddy attacked one of my sons twice for unknown reasons! Thank God he is 22 years old and was able to hold Teddy down. Still bitten but thank God no hospitalization. We were totally baffled. I had to call the Vet for help, and they agreed to give Teddy an anti-anxiety medicine. However, they never suggested for us to bring him in. They thought this was just behavioral. Then the Tuesday before New Years Eve as I was coming home from the Vet for one of our other dogs, Teddy attached another of my sons, who is 19. Ambulance, police and Quarantine Order again. I called the Vet frantic as to what in the world was going on. Finally, they suggested that we bring him in for a blood work up on the 30th of December. On New Years Eve we were advised that he had hypothyroidism and wanted to send the testing out for more detailed analysis. We waited and the result was that he had hypothyroidism. However, the Vet advised that as Teddy was on anti-anxiety meds, that we had to have him off it for 5 days and run the tests again!. Why did they not think of this in the first place. 5 days later, the results were in, Teddy's numbers were not even registering. His T4 level which should have been between 0.8 - 3.5 was less than a 0.5, this was just one of the tests. How sad. I did research on this and sent literature to the Vet about "rage syndrome" which is associated with hypothyroidism. Why did I have to research this? They should have known about this issue, where Teddy was attacking without warning, no barking, nothing to prepare us for this. They put Teddy on meds and told us to wait about 120 hours before it would take effect. On 1/15 I called the vet again as the medical literature indicated that a tumor could be causing the hypothyroidism and whether they ever took x-rays or an ultrasound. The answer was that they never did these diagnostic tests, and that we should schedule an appointment in three weeks to see if they got the right dosage. If not , try again. I asked, aren't you just putting a "bandage" on the problem without knowing the cause??? On 1/19, my husband went to walk Teddy outside and stepped on some ice on the step, and made a "gasp" sound. This was enough of a sound for Teddy to turn around and attack my husband again. Unreal. My husband is such a wonderful , laid back person from California. My son ran out to help as did a contractor who was here. I end up having to run out to help and was able to control Teddy.While my husband was being driven away in an ambulance AGAIN!!! I called to speak with our Vet. She was out and was asked to call me back. When she called me back, she gave me the names of a few centers who might take Teddy, all said no due to the biting history. I called back to speak with her and she was with a client. I was told she would call me back. Another 15 minutes went by, and still no returned phone call. I called again, and told she was busy. I explained that this was an emergency situation and that we had to speak with her as I needed to rush to the hospital to seek how my husband was and that I needed to get Teddy out of the house and he had to be put down. I asked to speak with any Vet at the place. Then Jillian Spielman, the Practice Manager got on the phone and said that " you can't bring him here you will put all of us in danger". Was she kidding????? The attack was over, Teddy was in a kennel, and calm as if nothing had happened. This was just like the prior events. Our vet there knew the history. I had to call another Vet, N.A.H. for help. Fortunately, they agreed that the situation was grave and urgent. I had to have Teddy put down for the safety of our family, friends, and neighbors. This vet groups fell far too short on understanding the seriousness of the situation, failed to understand the medical conditions and failed to help us. We are traumatized over this, heartbroken and devastated that we lost a member of our family. Teddy Bear will be missed, but we know he must have been very sick. My husband has had over 10 set of stitches! read more

Don't go there!!! I had an exotic parrot, never seen the avian veteranarian. (the owner never around) I had a sick baby bird. They sent us home with 4 medications, my bird started with neurological problems and had seizures, then when he became critical they overdosed him with medication and killed him! !! My 10 year old daughter is tramatized and cries everyday to school and our family is torn apart., and I am out thousands of dollars. BE WARNED : THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOU My friend brought her bleeding parakeet to S Wilton a few weeks ago. She was told by the vet that they would do their best to save the bird but that it would cost $1000 and possibly more. My friend, who is a full time dog rescue person, told the vet that it would be difficult to come up with $1000 or more all at once at this time. The vet gave my friend two choices. Choice one was to pay the full amount up front. Choice two was to SURRENDER OWNERSHIP of her pet bird, which she had had for 7 years. In addition, she would have to pay $300 to the South Wilton Veterinary Group. She was told that the $300 fee was to cover the cost of euthanasia and cremation. MY FRIEND WAS TOLD THAT THESE WERE THE "ONLY" TWO CHOICES SHE HAD AND THAT THEY WERE NON NEGOTIABLE. WHEN MY FRIEND QUESTIONED THE ETHICS AND REASONING FOR SUCH A POLICY, SHE WAS TOLD THAT THE PRINCIPLE INVESTOR IN THEIR VETERINARY GROUP WAS A CORPORATION OWNED BY A HEDGE FUND AND THAT SOUTH WILTON WAS A BOTTOM LINE MONEY BUSINESS. They were never successful with the first rounds of tests and insisted we put our nearly 15 year old dog through them again.
