My mom has brought our beagle in 4 times in the past month. Once to the emergency because she was breathing heavily. The dog is overweight. I would surmise that she was having a panic attack along with her false pregnancy which the vet also stated. Fine. They got the false pregnancy part right. My problem is this: The dog is itchy. Before they advise my mom to switch the dog food or try something less processed, or even change her shampoo and the soap used for her bedding etc, they inject her a bunch of times and prescribed her medication to eat with her food. --forever?! The dog is 4. They didn't investigate the cause of her itching at all. I feel like especially when you have elderly dog owners, there's some level of trust that you put in a veterinarian especially when dealing with dogs who are pre-disposed to certain things like allergies and weight gain. I took this dog to my home, to give her a little more attention and figure out why she was acting so sick, and within a week I stopped all her "anti allergy" medication, changed her food to a bland diet, found these giant tufts of fur missing, brought her to MY vet in New Haven, and found out she had a crazy infection from her scratching and biting at an old bug bite. I have antibiotics for 10 days, Antiseptic spray to clean up the area, a cone so she leaves the infected area alone, sample bland diets, flea and tick meds that I'll be giving her after this infection clears up, healthier treat samples, her nails are clipped and they squeezed out her abdomen which had gathered some liquid and was making her uncomfy. I have to bring her in to a follow up on 7 days so the vet can make sure That I am doing what I'm supposed to be doing to ensure she heals properly. In one visit. All of this in one visit. 250 bucks later. My mom has spent over 200 dollars each visit to this shitty ass vet office and I am APPALLED at their lack of attention to detail. If this was the result of a tick bite, or some other deadly insect my moms dog would have DIED and my mom would still be out over 600 Dollars for them to laugh and say, yea beagles get itchy. I don't think there is ANY excuse for a vet to miss this. Especially if I noticed within a week of observing her while working and doing a million other things. Chunks of fur gone, and NO ONE noticed ? Disgusting . read more

Also they don't charge a crazy amount especially when it's an emergency they charged me a normal price when every other veterinary place wanted to charge me an emergency price just to bring my dog in next day! We've been a customer of Brookside for over 30 years for our dogs. Originally, we were customers of Dr. Kenneth Fein and now we're customers of the new owner Dr. Daniel Hochman. The staff is always helpful, compassionate, and sensitive to the needs of your pet. There are three doctors working there now: Dr. Fein who only works Mondays but is a very kind and knowledgeable doctor, Dr. Daniel Hochman who is a cutting-edge doctor who is very efficient, and Dr. Howard Hochman who is a gentle old-fashioned doctor. They offer onsite boarding and hospital services as well as general practice services. Our dogs received all three kinds of services and were always happy and healthy. The only issue for some is that all payments are due at the time of service. If you need payment plans, they offer referrals to a loan service or accept credit cards. read more

Ok so I have 2 dogs I originally took my first dog Izzy to the older doctor but he had passed in April and he was a great doctor, so now I have to take my other dog Chico to the doctor Hockman. Maybe they are prejudice I hate thinking that way but??? The first week I took him he stated that my dog MAY have allergies and gave him antibiotics so I asked can it be towards food? He stated no not at all mainly to the environment I said ok. I paid over $ 300 for that visit, regardless I gave the antibiotics to Chico and it didn't work, I wanted another appointment he stated since it's the weekend I could give my dog Benadryl for itching I did check I never saw any fleas or anything. I did not give my dog no damn Benadryl so Monday came and I took him back in he stated he gave him a steroid injection and gave bravecto just in case of fleas, lol that costed over $200! So when I got home tried to give Chico the bravecto and he spit it out so my other dog ran in and ate it! I couldn't believe it. So I called the next morning and asked could I pick up another one the rudeass lady Barbara said sure she's there until 5, so I go to pick it up and she says it's $75 I said yes I just paid for it is there a way you could give it to me complimentary because of what happened she insisted no mind you I'm not working and I just paid them $530 and your holding $75 over my head??? Lol then also gave my dog prednisone which has bad side effects to dogs! I did not appreciate cellmate barbara being very rude left me outside for a long ass time knowing it was hot as hell!! they don't care about pets anymore plus they take your pet in due to Covid-19 you can't go In with your pet and nothing is probably done! Save your time and money I felt very humiliated and disrespected the other doctor was great! Also Stopped giving my dog the prednisone allergy med I did not like the side effects at all!! Steroids are not good for pets! read more

I had been bringing my dog here since I got her almost 12 years ago. To say that I've had a bad experience would not be descriptive enough. My dog fell ill 2 weeks before Christmas with terribly loose and bloody stools. We were prescribed 5 different antibiotics after discovering that she had a bacterial infection that was the worst the Dr. Hochman had ever seen (so he told me on no less than three occasions). After every new prescription, her condition only worsened. Desperate for relief, I took her in and explained that she was hardly eating and asked for an antibiotic in liquid form in order to make it easier to administer. I was told curtly that no such medication existed. We were given a smaller pill in hopes that it would be easier to hide. This was not the case. Our biggest problem was getting her to take any pill. She refused to take them even after being hidden in peanut butter, treats and meat. After a particularly awful night where she had 3 accidents in our home, I called and said I'd had enough of watching my beloved pet suffer and I asked for an appointment to euthanize her. After making the appointment and accepting what was to come, I received a call that the doctor had suggested a new antibiotic to try IN LIQUID FORM. I called back the following day after weighing my options and decided that it was better to put her down then prolong her suffering. When we arrived on Saturday 2/2, Dr Daniel Hochman was there. He walked into the exam room and DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHY WE WERE THERE. I had to explain that she had gotten worse and had stopped eating altogether and we were there to put her down...the words felt like razor blades on my tongue. He also remembered her as simply "bloody diarrhea". There was no explanation about how the procedure was going to happen and what we could expect. He gave her a shot under her skin on her rear and said that she would get sleepy. Thankfully my best friend had gone through this before and explained that he had given her a sedative in order to put her to sleep then once she was under, the doctor would give her the injection to euthanize her. After almost 10 minutes, it was clear that my girl was attempting to fight the medicine and she was no where near being sleepy. Ultimately, he had to give her a second dose of the sedative intravenously which worked within two minutes. Now it came time to give her the second shot. He tried to find her vein in one leg and gave her half the shot....then he moved to the other leg to give the rest. There was blood everywhere. Once I saw that her heart had stopped I knew it was over. The worst part was watching him haphazardly cover her bleeding legs with gauze and then poking her eye to see if she was dead. He left the room with the door wide open so that we could say our final goodbyes. I walked out of the room and left my beloved dog of 11 years on the floor. Earlier, we were given the option of moving her to a blanket covered table, however it was static and I was concerned about getting her up there (she weighed 60lbs). I also knew she would not have been comfortable there and did not want to cause unnecessary stress. All in all I would not recommend this veterinary facility. If you must go here, please only go when Dr Howard Hochman is there. He is a far superior doctor and actually acts like the animals being brought in are family members. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is because of one of the women at the front desk named Barbara. She has been there for years and is the kindest, warmest person ever. When she saw us arrive her demeanor changed entirely. She spoke softly and calmly. She helped pick an urn and stated that we should pay for the services prior to going in, that way we could leave immediately after. She stayed in the room while we said goodbye and gave her sympathies on our way out. I wholeheartedly believe that the only reason this place is still in business is because of Barbara and the others that work the front desk. She should go and work for a better more compassionate vet. read more

We used this original vet practice many years ago when Dr. Howard Hochman was in charge. I will never forget how skilled he was at saving a beloved cat of mine when she had suffered a serious head wound. We continued for many years to bring all our pets to him for wonderful care. He retired and sold the business to another vet. I was thrilled that his son Daniel has taken over the practice last year. I found Daniel at his original office in New Canaan CT. Remembering the name of our old trusted vet, I asked and was happy to find he was his son and followed in his father's footsteps. Dr.Daniel Hochman has been taking excellent care of all my family's cats and dogs for at least 5 years now. I trust his talents, and his staff at both locations are a great and caring group. It was a bonus to find his father Howard Hochman back at Brookside to fill in for his son on part of the week. read more

I was new to the Bridgeport area and needed a Vet for my cat. This office was extremely close to where I lived so thought I would give them a try. They are AMAZING! Not only have they gone above and beyond to help me with my Hedgehog (which is considered an exotic animal) they also took great care with my cat when we discovered that he was seriously ill. The staff goes above and beyond any vet staff I have ever experienced. Unfortunately we had to put our cat to sleep, as his illness was too far progressed, but they gave my whole family an opportunity to come and say our goodbyes and gave us the time we needed as well as plenty of tissues! They really are wonderful, they care as much about your pets as you do, and I would recommend them to anyone!!!! read more
