We have been going to South Texas Maize annually since 2016 and overall we love it. Their teacher appreciation discount gets our whole family in for free which is amazing, and they always have perfect Fall activities. Pumpkin Patch, flower field, apple cannon, kettle corn popcorn, slides, the corn maize of course, and tons of other activities for the whole family. We also love the live music. Sadly this year we had our first major bad experience with the staff. So Hope and David.. this is for you who offered no apologies, no sense of understanding, and who encouraged us to take to the internet to express our dissatisfaction. We found ourselves lost in the corn maize, and our older boys (age 12 and 15) forged ahead to help us and a group of other families find our way out. They got ahead of us so we did not see fully what happened but we walked up on a female employee, Hope, cutting off our boys bands and sticking white hand on them letting the world no they are no longer welcome inside the corn maize for the rest of our day. We come to find out the boys saw the next marker to help us out and they stepped over some yellow caution tape in an open space to get to it and back track to help us out. But Hope was essentially hiding in the corn, and gave no warning, no offer for assistance, and no human decency towards our boys and instead immediately punished them. When we confronted Hope, she admitted that this was the most difficult part of the maize but continued to give me no apologies or any sense of respect or customer service when explaining the boys were now banned from the maize. Then she audibly huffed in annoyance when we did not allow her to take the boys from us and had to escort our whole group out of the maize. From there David, a manager was brought down from a cherry picker over seeing the maize and proceeded to treat us in the same cold and unapologetic manner. To top it all off he could not truly weigh in on the situation because he was on his phone while "watching" the maize. Overall we were extremely disappointed to be treated so poorly and without any decency from these two employees, Hope and David. We never received an apology, a crumb of understanding, or any politeness. We understand our boys disobeyed a rule, but they did not destroy any property, were not rude or disrespectful to anyone, and were just trying to be helpful and take the lead in helping our family out of the maize. read more

This cost includes a whole bunch which includes a zip line, flower pictures, big slide, corn maze and so much more! We had the most enjoyable time yesterday and was worth every penny. We had a lovely time here. We were hoping for cooler weather, but by 1pm, it was hot hot. Around 2pm, we found a cool breeze and took our 4 dogs through the maize. We walked about 3 miles here. The dogs had a great time and the other visitors were all sweet. We made a few friends in the maize as we worked our way out. It was inevitable! The reason I'm giving this rating is because of how pricey I feel it was. Perhaps I am just not used to it as I would always go with my family as a child but it was almost $19 for each of the adults. There were four of us and that price didn't include the pumpkin. You have to pay for the pumpkins separately by the pound. We were also disappointed to see that all the pumpkins were already picked and just stacked in sections on the ground. We have come to find out that is pretty normal in Texas. Overall this location has a lot to offer families but we just were underwhelmed as a group of adult friends. A great autumn/fall activity to go with family, a date or a group of friends. There's so much to do. First of course is the corn maize that has a phase 1 and a phase 2. It's huge and fun to get lost in, especially at night! It's fun with friends because you can compete or scare each other to finish the maze. There are food booths that serve hamburgers and even roasted corn, to name a few. There are also fire pits where you can sit around on the hay and warm yourself during cold fall weather. For $4, you can buy a s'more bag to make s'mores by the fire. There are so many other play areas for the kids and picture opportunities in front of fall decor, that you can spend a good few hours here! read more

Wow, I had never been to the Maize, and what a great time we had! At first you're thinking, omg, look at all those cars parked in the field! Yes, it is packed with families, but they really know what they're doing. The lines were long to get in but went relatively fast. Once, inside, there was so much to do and see. A variety of barbecue plates to satisfy your hunger and to quench your thirst--non alcoholic beverages and those adult beverages for the over 21 crowd. Where to start? How about a horseback ride or a slide down the huge slide? Maybe a ride on the tractor or hayride? How about checking out the pig races? Who knows how to squeal like a pig? Here's the short and skinny of it: yes, it's worth your money and your time. The. End. If you want to know more, read on.... Although most of the attractions here are for kids, it's still worth the drive out there for the couple of adult entertainment attractions they have. The corn maze, "MatterCorn Mountain," and the apple cannons are my recommendations for the adults. *The corn maze - it's separated into two different sections, and you get to try each of them with your admission. At the maze "orientation" booth, you choose from a selection of paper slips with categorized trivia questions on them. As you go through the maze, you find sign posts with numbers on them and you match this number up with the question on the slip of paper. Select what you think is the correct answer on the slip of paper and then take the path it tells you to take (you'd better hope you're answer is right). They let you look at the slips of paper before you go, so you can choose a category of trivia that you are comfortable with. I went with the easiest one (it's actually meant for kids) and was able to get through each section in a total of 45 minutes or so. *MatterCorn Mountain - there are several tube slides around the place, but this locale has the tallest slide. Not scary at all and a lot of kids going down it. *Apple cannons! I think this was my favorite. You pay $5 for a basket of 10 apples and load them up into an air powered cannon and shoot at different metal targets out in the field. I could have done this all day if it didn't cost extra. There's plenty of parking and short lines for admission and everything else inside. As I mentioned above, there's lots of other stuff to do if you have those half-sized people with you, but I just reviewed the attractions for the full-sized people. Plenty of stuff to eat and drink, but it's overpriced carnival food style. Save your money and find a good local place in Hondo or nearby Castroville to eat at instead. They're open from mid-September through mid-November. Helicopter rides, pony rides, and quarter horse rides are an extra cost and it's listed on the map they give you when you enter. read more

This was a great adventure for fall time! We took our 2 and 4 years old along with some friends hound and old, and we had a great day! There was something to do for everyone. Everything was well maintained and spaced out. We didn't have any lines or waited for anything. Lots of photo stations to snap a great pic! The corn maize was great with a group with clear paths and 7/8 feet corn stalks, and fun question and answer cards to navigate you through the maze. The giant tube slides were a blast! The dairy goats were fun to feed. There were bounce pillows for the kids. The dance hall has a wonderful bathroom. There were ample hand washing stations too, loved that, especially with little ones. A great selection of pumpkins and flowers to pick. They also had pony rides and hay rides, we just didn't get that far. Very fun place, even if you dont have kids. I was even able to bring my dog. I only did one of two corn mazes and it took us only 20 mins, but it was made for little kids so that makes sense. I liked how almost everything was included with the ticket (which was free for military --at least this past weekend, yay). The food was kind of pricey, but that's common for festivals/fairs/attractions. The French fries were really good! *They're only have so many attractions that come with your ticket. ALL THE ATTRACTIONS THAT YOU MAY HABE EXPERIENCED BEDORE MAY VARY IF ITS TO EARLY AND BEFORE LATE OCTOBER -PAY ATTENTION- to the few things they list on their page because not all the attractions are there all the time. Don't go to early in the season it's really dead. My family went and there was NO *pumpkin patch *dance barn *attractions with the venders *they have discontinued the pig races since 2018 Among many other things including fewer bathroom locations. I didn't feel like we got the experience we payed for, all the attractions were gone. It was so boring we just left. I was upset because I didn't know that their attractions vary on the time of the season and later on in the season. The tickets remain the same price. Almost $60 for 3. We don't have lots of money but we chose this place. Our family was expecting the same family experience we had but that wasn't the case. My husband is a Veteran and since they seem to have a heart for military family's I though it wouldn't be a problem to ask. I didn't think that the owner would deny us when I asked to come back at a later time and they can keep the money. She refused :( and I didn't understand why :'(. When I first called I was already home (which was 45- 50 min away) and she was willing to give me my money back but only if I was still there at the farm- so then I made the suggestion, "well what if we come back later in the season?" She refused and said that the farm being dead was for me to enjoy it not being crowded so it was a benefit for me. She said I missed planned my family trip and I should look on the web page because it shows what comes with the admission tickets. When I looked at what the attractions actually where, one was THE HAY JUMP. This consisted of 3 hay barrels out together to walk over. Soooo Pay Attention! South Texas Corn Maize is a half day trip fun filled for the whole family. It is the coolest thing I have done since I have been in Texas. This year, they are opening their fields on October 2 and it is not going to be disappointing. Last year they had the maze set up to honor the soldiers. This year, it is dedicated to the Graff Family Farm. Try getting yourselves out of that one! Corn shooting gun is fun for the little ones and the corn popping trampoline is especially a winner for the kids. This is a must go to for ALL parents. Super night of family fun! We came to the South Texas Maize tonight at 5:30 with a group of 30+ friends. We rented a fire pit which came full of wood and lit. Also, we had ample benches/picnic tables. We brought all our own food to grill/roast over the fire! So fun! The place is huge, offers a 7 acre corn maize, large jump areas, live band, pumpkin patch, tunnel slides, pig races, apple cannons, helicopter rides and much more - also a 9:00pm fireworks show! All for $15 per person. I recommend bringing plenty of water, flashlights, glow sticks (if you visit at night) and bug spray. Also recommend buying your tickets online to avoid a wait. My group and I had the best time at the south texas corn maize! We arrived fairly early, which I'd recommend if you're not a fan of crowds. It wasn't too hot and there was plenty of shade with scattered picnic tables underneath AND you're welcome to bring your own foods! Super family friendly as well! We stayed from 10:30 am - 3pm and didn't even get a chance to do everything, so expect this to be a day long trip :) ($15/person) Food: They do have fair type foods available: turkey leg, pizza, elote, roasted corn, funnel cake, soft drinks, but no apple cider. :( Please bring in some apple cider next year! A gal in our group graciously made us all a picnic, so we didn't partake in the food this year. Activities: CORN MAZE: We did the 45 minute corn maze, which was a lot of fun! There weren't that many people at the maize yet, so we took advantage. We did get lost a few times, but we had help from the folks that were watching us from the middle. haha We brought in our stroller thinking that it would fair well in the hard mud, but turned out it was a bad idea. The wheels got a lot of mud on them and it got harder and harder to push throughout the maze. It did get hot, so make sure to bring some water! SLIDE: The huge slide was also a lot of fun! Having come from the Northern Va area I've been to some great farms with pumpkin patches. Complete waste of time in my opinion. A couple of rides, no petting zoo.. there is a lot to be desired. We did the corn maze, let the kids go on the slide, ate, did the second phase of the maze... We were going to see about getting the pumpkins, but at $0.75 lb for a pumpkin or $1.50 a lb for the specialty I told my husband and kids that we could stop at HEB on the way home. Those pumpkin weights can add up quick! So they gouge you on the way in, and on your way out. If you're going to be charging those kinds of entrance fees, you need to offer amenities included in those prices. So we paid $90 to walk around. Ridiculous! Wow! This place was fantastic and everything I imagined it to be!! My family came in from out of town and we have young kiddos so we wanted to do a pumpkin patch together. This place was exactly what we wanted to do. We noticed the price was $10 per adult and $8 per adult 65 yrs+. Kids 2 years and younger are free. Bonus! The price includes EVERYTHING except obviously food and beverages. They have tokens you can buy for $1 each that is for the corn shooter and the cow train for the kids. Everything else is covered under the admission price. Firstly, the location of this place is in the middle of nowhere. It's hard because I'm not familiar with Hondo anyways but if my sister didn't see the sign, I likely would've missed it. It's not very obvious. If you're driving 90S, it'll be on your left hand side once you pass through Castroville. Phew! At least I know where it is for the future. Once we arrived, we noticed the large area full of cars. It was quite busy, more than what we expected it to be. We paid our admission and the lady at the admission counter was super friendly. Asked us if it was our first time, we said yes and she explained pretty much everything to us. It was really nice. They have a HUGE field FULL of activities (all of which are included except the corn shooter and cowtrain like I previously said). There's a new swing for little kiddos, a pretty good size playground area, the corn shooter, a HUGE slide, the bouncy corn popper, and of the course the huge corn maze field. We decided to head on over to the cornmaze since we went on a Friday, it was already quite late when we got there and we didn't want to get stuck in the dark. There's a small "orientation" you have to go through where someone explains what you have to do and explains the rules (no cussing, no kissing, no going off the track, etc etc). And you get to choose a category to which you want to answer questions to get through the maze. We chose "tiny tots" and we chose "tv/movie" they also had a lot of categories. We didn't make it entirely through since we got lost (LOL) and it was dark, so we didn't want to get stuck in there ;) The hayride was fabulous. It takes you on a small ride around the farm and ALSO has a pitstop at the pumpkin patch where you can buy pumpkins if you wish. They vary in price from $.50 to $10.00, not bad at all! I'm definitely going to drive out there again before Halloween and go on the weekend so we're able to get the whole way through the cornmaze. The best pumpkin patch I've ever been to. This place could be so much more. You pay an entry fee, then food and drinks are still pricey. There don't seem to be enough activities for all the space they have here, and they definitely DO NOT have enough restrooms: and I'm not including those nasty Porta potties, yuck! The maze was okay, except it was little more than a shameless promotion for H.E.B., but if you go at night take a flashlight. The one excellent thing they do, however, is offer free entry to our military. That's the only reason for the 3rd star. The South Texas Corn Maize was really fun and a great place to take childern during the fall. The maze itself is a lot of fun. This year the maze was cut out as George Strait but changes every year. There are clues within the maze as well to keep you on track. It took us about an hour (with a 6 year old leading the way) to complete the maze. Other than the maze they have this thing called a Jumping Pillow. Basically it looks like the top half of a pillow sticking out of the ground that kids can jump on. That was a big hit. There was also two different playgrounds, a sand box, a tractor train ride a hay ride you could do. My favorite thing was a corn cannon they had. They cut up ears of corn, stick it in the gun and you shoot at targets in the field. If you hit a target you get a free bag of Kettle Corn to take home! It was cool. The snacks are of course wonderful too. The grill corn on the cob, turkey legs, kettle corn, hot dogs, sausage wraps, potato twirls - all good. Well all that I tasted was good. They are only open for about a month every year but definitely worth a trip! read more

Wow, I can't wait to go back! I came here a couple of weekends back with my little brother's cub scout group. I had a blast. I intended to drop him off and leave but once I caught a peep at all the fun stuff going on, I just had to stay. Its very kid friendly but grown ups will have a blast here as well. This year, the maze featured George Strait. It is divided into two parts. There are ten numbers throughout the whole maze to keep you on the right path. At the start of the maze, you will grab a "passport". The passport has questions numbered one thru ten. When you reach the sign that corresponds with number, you will answer the question on your card. If you answer correctly, you will lead yourself out of the maze. If you dont' get the answer right...well, getting lost is part of the fun, right? There is a corn popping bouncer, a pumpkin patch, goats, a wheelbarrow racing area and fireworks in the evening to keep everyone entertained after the maze. Oh! And there is also a hayride! The hayride is free with your ticket. Its the only feature that is included with the price of maze entry. Tickets are $9 for adults but I can't remember the kid price. There are benches to sit on in case you get tired. Com early though! It gets very crowded. The line wasn't too long when I got there at 5 PM on a Saturday night but when I left at 9 the police weren't allowing anyone to come into the parking lot. People had to pay to park at lots across the street and next to maze. HAVE FUN! read more

We went on a hay ride, went through the maize twice, ate kettle corn until our hearts content, took pictures, saw some goats, frolicked around like little children, and had an overall BLAST! The Corn Maize at the Graff Family Farm is first and foremost definitely perfect for children, but as I found out last weekend it's great for kids of ALL ages (even grown-up ones) because there is so much to do! We first tried going on Saturday and noticed there were people with dogs! Knowing that we just HAD to bring our Chi, Little Bit, we asked the friendly lady at the window a few questions and headed back to SA, with a pit-stop at the Medina River in Castroville :) We returned the next day, which turned out to be in perfect weather, and had a really great first-time corn maize experience. If you're curious on just how the process works, continue reading.. I was't quite sure what to expect. Were we just going to be walking around in circles in a random corn field? No, it's much more fun than that! Several feet apart from each other are numbered poles, the 1st phase having 1-5 and the 2nd phase 6-10. Before you even enter the maize, you have about 8 different activities to choose from, Tiny Tots (easy for children), Halloween, Team Building (company outings), American History, TV & Movies, and others where you are asked questions and advised on which way to turn depending on your answers. One way is the correct way, and the other way gets you a little lost but it is always easy to find the right path again :) This year's design was modeled after "So God made a Farmer" and apparently the layout changes annually. There are a hand-full of rules that need to be followed such as no running, no shortcuts, no alcohol, etc. As for kid-friendly activities, there were 2 areas for slides, a story time singing gentleman, hay rides, the corn husk blaster, a goat petting zoo (more animals would be nice), hay rides, a jumpy bouncer, and plenty of snacks! It appeared as though some of the children's activities may have required extra ca$h. Food (hamburgers, sodas, kettle corn) were reasonably priced but I did see a few people entering with ice chests so I would definitely look into that before heading out there if you have a larger family. I can't stress how delicious that kettle corn is!!! This was the first year they were offering half-off admission if you had a doggie with you. This place was a lot of fun! Worth the trip! There is plenty to do to keep the little ones and grownups happy. Prices are great (FYI like them on Facebook they give out 25% to 50% coupons often) at $10 apiece for ages 3 to 65 $ 8 for 65 yrs and up and free for kids 2 or smaller. Price includes all activities except the corn shooter and cow barrel ride that are $1 tokens a piece. So this place is huge! You got the corn maize on one side which is pretty easy to navigate just get a series of questions you can answer. There is huge category of these questions from American History to Halloween Classics. If you happen to get lost there are employees all through the maze to help you. Although it's way more fun being lost! Throughout the park there are a number of activities and play areas. The corn popper was so much fun! It's sort of like a bouncy house without the house. My daughter loved the slides and bundles of hay set out to climb and jump on. There is an area to watch and feed goats. The cow barrel ride was a real treat to watch the kids' facial expressions. There is a hay ride that takes you to and from the pumpkin patch. Now this pumpkin patch was the best we've been in the San Antonio and around region. Pretty pumpkins, small pumpkins, big pumpkins, there is no way I'm carrying that pumpkins. Prices were from 50 cents to 10$ each. We ended up with four small pumpkins and two normal size ones for about $7 which I thought was a steal. They have plenty of snacks from kettle corn to nachos and all at reasonable prices. Yummy eats like turkey legs and roasted corn. Sweet tea and Fresh squeezed lemonade. The lemonade was so good and refreshing. The kettle corn was a wait but worth it and at $7 for a large bag a great deal. All in all this place is worth the drive for hours of family filled fun and laughs. read more

I see that your trying to cater to the older crew as well and food trucks would make this place I think top notch. It may have been just me but it was hot on Saturday and the only cold drinks line was super long. I love this corn maze! Granted it's the only one we have here in South Texas that I'm aware of, but I've taken three years of elementary students out here each fall for a trip through the maze and we've always had a great time. The website is easy to navigate and combined with the company email account, you can get all of the information and help you need to plan out a field trip, which is good for teachers who have limited resources or campus support. I imagine this also translates well to large church groups, youth groups, or other organizations. In addition to the corn maze, which changes every year in support of a cause the owners donate to, there is also a small petting zoo with goats, a "corn popper" AKA moon bounce type area, slides and playground equipment, and plenty of snack bar stations- definitely try the kettle corn! We went on Oct 2, 2016 around 1pm. Parking wasn't crowded and the walk to the front wasn't far. No lines to get in. The restrooms were clean & included a changing table for babies. It wasn't crowded so there were little to no lines. The maze was fun, but the corn was still a little short so you can see over it if you're tall enough. The helicopter ride was great. It was 3 people for $100 or $35 for one. Shooting apples from the canon was fun. That's $3 for 5 apples or $5 for 10 apples. They have more things to do for little kids than older kids, but everyone had fun. We will be going back in Nov for the camp fire. Big Tip: Don't forget the bug spray and sun block. read more

NOT WORTH THE PRICE. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. Horribly over priced. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Muddy, unkept grounds. Most of the property closed due to rained out grounds but prices remain the same. Rude staff -- especially management. MANAGEMENT DOES NOT CARE to correct rude staff and intentionally refuses to acknowledge or remedy poor customer service. We drove to the ranch with a car full of kids excited to visit the corn maze Nov 10, 2018. We found the ranch web site online to be cluttered and an automatic pop up stated the ranch opening be delayed until 4:30 p.m. and to refer to another site section for details. This could not be easily found. HALF THE RANCH WAS CLOSED but rates were still the same. After making the long drive with the kids, we opted to try the half of the park that was open as to not waste our hour drive and time. We were told the kids could still pet the animals, which were just goats. We ruined the entire family's shoes playing hop scotch on rocks to avoid pools of water and mud at the unavoidable property entrance. There wasn't courtesy enough to lay down particle board or more rocks to help people enter safely. Granted, there was a popular band -- we did not stay for it as the kids feet were so wet, muddy and cold. When we arrived the woman at the entrance told us the entire second half of the ranch would be avaiable to us. However. very little was open. We bought food and tried to sit at an empty table by a fire to warm the kids only to be scolded by staff we needed to move if we hadn't reservations. That is understandable but the table was empty and the fire burnt for no one -- not to mention that should of been explained at admission. The jumpy staff could stand to be a little more polite and professional and not bark at little children for not putting their muddy shoes near the jumpy. Very disappointed. We paid nearly 80 dollars to feed goats grass, to buy overpriced food, and ruin a family of five's shoes and muddy our car mats.We wasted time and gas money. If they are going to charge what they do, they should deliver great customer service and a big bold "MAZE IS CLOSED/CONCERT ONLY" post as soon as web site is opened. And when I brought these exact concerns to management in an email, she defenseively and rudely responded in red ink -- line by line -- "NOT OUR FAULT, NOT TRUE, FALSE ACCUSATION and MY STAFF WILL BEHAVE HOWEVER THEY DEEM NECESSARY TO RUN THE JUMPY." First time to the Hondo Corn Maze and really a phenomenal place. Upon entering the staff was great getting you parked and you could tell they were 'family-home employees' that cared about what they doing in making sure all cars were lined up. The corn maze was great as there are two parts and take about 2 hours to complete both. The best thing is it's on A LOT of acreage and tables for seating and areas for the kids to let off steam. Food stands are really good and even have a 'cantina' for the adults/parents to enjoy. Open on the weekends ONLY and they do have live bands in the evening. We spent 5 hours there and that was enough as sun was great and we still had to do a back road ride to Boerne. The back road drive there-and-back was worth the whole day. I'll do it again next year! Great fall weather outing! Love the layout of the location. Small country festival vibe. The corn maze is fun for all ages. Hayrides, Apple blaster bazooka, pig races (smelly, but fun to watch), live music, and all your favorite classic Texas fair food. Picnic area with fire pits (can u say s'mores!) The night ended with a spectacular fireworks display. Definitely a spot to visit with family and friends to enjoy a laid back South Texas fall. read more

What a fun place! Our office spent half a day there for team building and I was impressed with the fun family activities available there. We did the corn mazes, hayride, big slides, and "cow ride". I would love to take my 9 year old here soon to take advantage of all the facilities open on weekends. They also have live music and beer for the "night children". read more
