Central Park Vision Center - I actually took this picture to show the chicken wing sauce in my beard for another review, but it's also the first day with the new glasses

I came in and the staff took my information and had me sit and wait for my exam. It was a very short wait and I was brought back to the see the doctor. I have been wearing glasses since I was 12 years old, so I've had a lot of eye exams. Never mind how many. This one was probably the most thorough I have ever had. Dr. Holifield really did an incredible job of checking out my vision and my eyes in general. He also recommended some eye drops for me, and his staff managed to get a prescription that was normally over $800 for free. Great job! I picked out my new glasses (you can see them in the photo), and while they are not the exact frames I wanted, they'll do. It was a bit pricey, but I have vision insurance so that covered part of it. When I got home I had a notice in the mail that my employer had changed to a new vision insurance carrier. I immediately called the office to apologize and give them the new information, only to find that they had already found it and had billed the correct insurance. That is truly excellent customer service. They told me it would take up to two weeks for the new glasses, which was fine, but it turns out, they were ready in six days. I picked them up and I'm wearing them right now. And I can see, so I guess the visit was a success. And I have a new eye doctor.

I've been a patient at Central Park Vision for at least five years, and scheduling an appointment…read morehas always been easy--as long as you plan ahead and don't wait until the last minute. Appointments are available at times that are convenient for me, and I never have a long wait to see the doctor. The staff I've interacted with have consistently been helpful and kind, which I truly appreciate. Dr. Holifield is patient and caring, and I will continue to return for my yearly checkups. I wear contact lenses and have been happy with the same brand for many years. While Dr. Holifield may occasionally suggest trying a new brand--and I'm open to giving them a try--there's never any pressure. I'm always supported in sticking with what works best for me. If you're looking for a new optometrist, I highly recommend giving Central Park Vision a try

When I come for an appointment it's pretty much on time no extra waiting around for the Dr. The part that seems to take too long is checking out with the new glasses. I'm not sure if it's the system but that's the only reason for the -1 star. If there are people in front of you plan 15 minutes each. They either need more employees or a better system. I would think they know how many people are booked with appointments and allow for the walk ins and people picking up their glasses. How about a separate line for people just picking up? I had to wait 10 minutes behind some guy who either didn't have insurance or didn't know his insurance simply to pick up glasses that were already paid for. And everyone is nice, very friendly staff. I'm not a mall person so I almost did not go here because it does take extra time getting in and out of the mall. And of course the extra shopping along the way lol

They even had the optician out on the floor trying to sell glasses, even though there were sales associates available. I wanted the optician to check my lenses because I wasn't seeing clearly, but instead she was tied up selling frames. Kind of felt like the priorities were backwards. When I finally came back to have my prescription checked, they made it seem like the change was so minor that it couldn't possibly be the issue -- basically brushed me off. I wasn't looking to argue, I just wanted someone to actually take the concern seriously. After spending that much money, the lack of follow-up care was really disappointing.

I took my mom to see an eye doctor last year, and we ended up getting her progressive lenses filled…read moreat LensCrafters it cost me $1,000 out of pocket since she doesn't have insurance. I saw it as an investment, something that would last. But only a few months later, she started telling me she couldn't see well again. This was a huge issue because she loves to read it's one of her main joys and ways to stay engaged. I wasn't sure what to do next. I hesitated to take her to another doctor, wondering how her vision could change so quickly. But I started calling around, only to find that most eye exams were $200-$400, which was out of reach financially. Then I found Optical Express at Bascom Palmer (University of Miami Eye Institute) offering exams for just $100. I was honestly apprehensive about the quality of care at that price, and some of the Yelp reviews made me even more unsure but I went ahead and got us on the cancellation list. Luckily, they called with an earlier appointment. And I'm so glad I gave them a chance. The doctor who saw my mom was absolutely incredible. From the moment we walked in, he was warm, patient, and kind. He immediately noticed that my mom had a disability, and he took extra care to explain everything clearly to her never rushing, never frustrated, just deeply compassionate. He treated her like family. As her caretaker, I'm usually the one explaining things to her after appointments, but he took that burden off my shoulders. It meant a lot. Even more importantly, he discovered that the original prescription she'd received last year was incorrect. He spent 30-40 minutes carefully examining her vision and correcting the mistake. I saw a review saying a doctor only spent 5 minutes with them but that couldn't have been further from our experience. He was thorough and thoughtful. After the exam, we went over to the glasses side of the clinic, and I was bracing myself for another high bill. But Natasha who helped us was so kind and understanding. She listened to our situation and worked with us to find a price we could afford. She even helped me brainstorm ways to get my mom back to the clinic (since she doesn't drive), going above and beyond in every way. We're coming back next week to pick up the new lenses, but I already feel confident recommending this place to anyone especially if you're looking for a compassionate, competent doctor and staff who truly care.
