Rewind to 11/24/2013 to 11/25/2013.... I lost my sister to another mister on 11/1/2013. She took her own life. In one of many honors of her, I decided to get a chrysanthemum tattoo because that was her favorite flower. She got a cluster of three of them on her back right before she passed. I asked a good friend of ours to find a place where we can both get it and he chose this place. I'm so glad he did because Bryce works here and we met him right before the unfateful night. I had his mentor do my tattoo. He did an AMAZING job! I did my tattoo in one session. It took him about eight hours. I was even more happy because her birthday is on 11/25! As much pain as I was in, Bryce and his mentor helped me through it. We took a bajillion breaks at my requests and they were so patient about them. They also put on Trailer Park Boys for me on Netflix to help me laugh through the pain. At the end, they didn't want to charge me anything. They told me it was sentimental, memorable, an honor, and fun for them. I left them a huge tip anyway. How could I not? The tattoo healed very quickly and well. Best tattoo shop ever! Want to preface this with the fact that they were very hospitable and were kind enough to squeeze me in last minute. Artist was super nice and everything was sterile/done properly from a health/safety perspective. However I'm so incredibly disappointed with how the tattoo came out. Bad line work, shading is way too dark, and texture is just off. I will be getting this removed next week as in person it's not even clear what it is. Have a bunch of other tattoos and have never felt the need to ever get anything removed... Hate to say it but I would not recommend this shop to anyone. Not worth the risk. Shop minimum is also $120. read more

I requested matching tattoos for me and my adult daughter. We conferred with Doug on font choice, size, and placement. Our design had some minor hand-drawn elements, cursive text, and line drawing. We made an appointment and everything was super-smooth. He made us feel very comfortable, followed all the proper sanitizing practices, and the work is clean and beautiful. Came here for matching father/son tattoos for my guys and turned out talked to Matt Wong about a terrible piece on my fiancés chest he got 20 years ago. The name Jenny. But it looked like Jerry. Then Jerry had a bad dragon cover up., all black. Matt started free handing on my fiancés chest some ideas about a non blacked out cover up and now we are 14 hours in on a chest piece/shoulder project that would be amazing. Came in for a traditional foo dog first draw up was a little too cartooning for my liking so he redid whole stencil without any complaints. Very professional and accommodating we made several changes mid tatoo changing some shading and coloring per my request. I was in Matt's chair for 6-7 hours with a couple breaks and tatoo turned out just like I envisioned. Very happy with level of service will be returning when I am in town for sure read more

South shore ink is a great place if you're looking to get inked in Hawaii. Bryce is super awesome and friendly. He made me feel like we have been friends for decades despite only recently meeting him. The art that he puts out is nothing short of amazing. I am so happy with the piece I get done and am already thinking about coming back for more. South shore ink is located conveniently on kapahulu ave. There is lots of street parking out front and across the street. Most of which are paid meter parking but it's cheap compared to down town. Sometimes you can get lucky and park behind the building in the residential area for free. Rainbow drive inn is next door so it was perfect that I could get a meal after getting inked. The shop is small but clean. Bryce is organized and knows what he is doing. He has been in business for a long time and I can definitely see why. I just recently signed back onto Yelp so this review is a month late. Anyways, about a month ago I got my tattoo done here by Bryce. I wanted to get my tattoo done the same day I walked in, before I chickened out, but due to timing, Bryce suggested that I come back the next day so he can have time to work on my design instead of rushing it and making it look crappy. So coming in the next day, he took the time to make what ever change I asked for and was absolutely patient with me. When it came time to start tattooing, he made sure that the stencil was placed perfectly. He had to do it several times till we got the perfect position and he actually changed the placing of my 'iwas and it ended up looking better than what I originally imagined. I love my tattoo and Bryce is definitely the guy to go to. Would love to get my next one done by him. read more

This is my 2nd visit. Matt did my 1st tat, I was scared as shit not knowing what to expect but he did a great job on my Tattoo. I went back to finish up the work and Bryce did an outstanding job of finishing up what Matt started. I strongly suggest checking these guys out if you want to get a tattoo in the Waikiki area. I got two tattoos by Bryce here when I was on vacation, one of them I love and the other not so much...it's over shaded and the shading and color are not very well blended. Also in a couple places the shading goes outside the lines which just shouldn't happen, any artist should know how to keep it in the lines but after four hours in the chair I was getting a little shaky so it's not all on him. Never met Kujo who apparently also works out of this shop but Bryce it pretty quiet but very personable. They also have Netflix so I could just lay back and watch movies which is a welcome distraction to 4.5 hours of constant pain! The price was reasonable for the amount of time the pieces took, I think he realized they could have been completed faster and charged me accordingly. As far as the quality of his work on skin I think he is only at about a 3 out of 5 so that is why I have not rated them higher. read more

I'm writing this as I'm sitting in his shop waiting for my girlfriend to get finished up (I got mine first). Since we are just visitors to the area, we rely on recommendations and seeing work our friends have had done. That said, we were originally going to go to Hawaii Tattoo Studio, but they were busy the weekend we were scheduled to be on island. Sean at Hawaii Tattoo, recommended Bryce here at South Shore Ink. I'm so glad he did. I called Bryce and he was available, emailed him some concepts and pics of some ideas. We met with him when we got into town, nailed down some ideas, set an appointment for 1:30 Saturday, and gave him a $50 deposit. When we got in for our appointment, he had some art ready based on what we discussed, gave it some final tweaks and we were off and running. He was pretty quick, did great work, and was very reasonable on price. I will recommend him to any of my friends looking to get work done while on Oahu. The good: Bryce doesn't seem flaky like a lot of tattoo artists are (even friends of mine). Shop is clean, parking is easy (metered parking, so being change) The bad: um, that tattoos hurt a little??? There really isn't anything bad I can say about our experience here. I guess that you have to feed the meter for parking, but that was less than $3. read more

I went in to south shore ink to get a tribute tattoo a couple days after my friend passed away. It was a very special situation and my first tattoo. When i walked in I told them I was interested in making an appointment or possibly getting it then, if I felt comfortable enough. I showed Kujo what I wanted and he started sketching. Arrive, and was able to be seen earlier then our time, drew our tattoo we brought but also added other options that he recommended. Very informative and nice person, enjoyed the music he was playing. I have received five tattoos frrom Kujo and am very satisfied!!! I am awaiting the sketches of two more and can't wait until I get the new work. Kujo is excellent at free hand tattooing, which is great because you know you are getting a one of a kind. Great studio! Bryce is a great guy, patient, and talented. It's said that there is a choice of (a) fast, (b) good, and (c) cheap...pick 2. Because the studio isn't in the heart of Waikiki where rent is out of control, you can still be assured of great quality, but at a price that isn't 25% more just because of location (cheap should never be an option!). He did a nice job on a small project that was a first tattoo and made us feel comfortable and at ease. read more

Just got tattooed by Bryce at south shore ink. The tattoo came out awesome and he and Kujo were very friendly and helped me through the process of sizing, color and composition to make my tattoo look good on my body. The shop is clean, cozy, and there is a huge tv there that i watched to help get my mind off the needle. Both bryce and Kujo have such laid-back, friendly attitudes that at first I suspected they werent really about giving good tattoos but once we started talking tattoos they got down to business and took it very seriously and did a great job.
