Review for South Gate Best Wedding Venue You Could Have! My daughter had her wedding here a couple of days ago and there aren't enough words to describe how beautiful it was. This venue is absolutely stunning and breathtaking! All of my guests couldn't believe how beautiful it was. The customer service here is outstanding.Chris and Mathew are so understanding, unfortunately my daughter needed to change her wedding date and Venue due to COVID-19 and they were there for her every step of the way trying to accommodate her and assure her that everything would work out and be okay. Chris and Mathew were so nice and patient to work with especially during this stressful time with COVID happening. On her wedding day, Brooke's bridal assistant was absolutely AMAZING his name is David. He was by her side the the entire day and evening from the time she showed up at 8:30am to the time we left at 12:30am. He made sure she had everything that she needed and then some. all day. He also took great care of all of us as we got ready for the big day!The food was all so fabulous along with their desserts. All of her guests couldn't stop talking about how perfect this venue was and are still calling us to talk about the wedding that night! I would definitely recommend them for any events you may have if you want amazing food and phenomenal customer service. Bobby was fabulous too, we started getting ready for the ceremony all the way until the end of the evening. They made her wedding day a fairy tale and we will definitely go back to them for any future events that we will or may have.

Dear Dave, First and…read moreforemost, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting together an absolutely incredible event for our son JP. Walking into a venue I had never been to before--and knowing how particular I can be--I'll admit I was taking a bit of a chance. But you and your team delivered nothing short of a first-class experience from start to finish. You knocked it out of the park. From the moment I dropped things off the night before, I was struck by how professional, respectful, and accommodating every single member of your staff was. Each one was a complete gentleman--not just with me, but with all of our guests. It didn't go unnoticed, and it meant a lot. My wife and I are still receiving phone calls from guests raving about everything--from the appetizers, to the Escarole, sausage and beans (which you may seriously want to consider adding to your menu!), and of course, the desserts. People can't stop talking about it. Thank you again for making the night so special for JP, and for making it all look effortless. It was an amazing experience all around, and we're truly grateful. If you ever need anything from the entertainment side please reach out I would love to help if I can. Thank you, The Abbruzzese Family

Since we had parked right next to The Standard, we chose to give it a try for lunch--and it was the best decision we've made in a long time. The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas, creating such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant itself was just as lovely. We were a party of five, including a 14-month-old baby, and our waitress could not have been more accommodating. Another great convenience is that the hotel also has parking available in the back. I only wish I had taken photos! We started with appetizers--crispy calamari, mussels, and chicken wing lollipops. For our entrées, we ordered the French Dip sandwich, the Carnegie Reuben, and two Standard burgers. We also asked for a kids' pasta. Expecting the usual penne, we were surprised when angel-hair pasta arrived. Our little girl had never tried it before, so we requested a substitution. Although our waitress explained that angel hair was the only pasta they typically have, she returned moments later to let us know the chef was going to get penne just for us. That level of service truly stood out. The food was amazing, and the service was exceptional. We enjoyed our visit so much that we are even considering hosting a family wedding and a baptism here. Highly recommend The Standard American Hotel!

Unfortunately, he had a mess up where he told us something was gluten-free and when we double checked with someone else, we found out that it was not. Thankfully, the other man who was working at the bar advised us and told us that the kitchen would make the meal Gluten-free for us, which was awesome. We really liked it. Also got a wedge salad with steak which was really good. I'm so glad we clarified things because it could've been a real health issue if we didn't. I think the server needs to be l educated on the severity of allergies and to ask instead of assuming if he isn't sure. We also ordered an apple pie and asked for iced cream on the side and it came out on top. There was also so much liquid floating around in the dessert. We didn't even ask to send it back because it was already a tense interaction with him as he just seemed annoyed our entire time there. Barely ate the dessert and when I had mentioned to him that we asked for the ice cream on the side I don't think he understood and asked if I wanted a box to take it home but I just said no. I just barely ate it and took it as a $14 loss. We were going to get one more drink because we were enjoying being outside even though the service wasn't that great, but the server ended up l bringing us the check, which we hadn't asked for yet so we took it as a sign to just go. I think we just got stuck with someone who did not like his job and was unhappy he was there and unfortunately it did taint our experience. Would potentially go back if we notice someone else working outside.

Where can I start , my wedding took place this past Saturday the 8th, my husband and I booked this…read morevenue a year ago , I did my research online prior to booking and read the great reviews, we visited the lake house and fell in love with it. Since the very beginning we did not get a good vibe from the housing manager Sally. Her attitude was dry, careless and arrogant. But I chose to look beside it because I really believed this venue was the perfect place to make my rustic themed visionary wedding to life. I can basically say I reached out or called sally maximum 4 times for help with questions because I did not feel comfortable approaching her with her dry attitude. All this woman talks and brags about is her husbands job as a CEO of a drug treatment program , big shit. Now lets start with my experience on my wedding week PLEASE READ THIS PRIOR TO BOOKING WITH SALLY, SO YOU CAN BE AWARE AND NOT HAVE THIS HAPPEN TO YOU My fiance paid the venue in full three weeks before the event , Sally told us many months ago that if in the occasion that the night before our event , the venue was not booked we may go drop off our equipment and decorate the day before. Three weeks ago Sally verbally told my fiance, wedding planner, and I that we may decorate on Friday since it was not booked nor she believed it would be with such short notice. We are super excited and relieved that we were able to decorate the day before. On wednesday August 5th I called Sally for last minute questions and reconfirmed our arrival on Friday to drop off & decorate , Sally responds" Oh i am sorry an architecture business meeting/reunion will be held Friday you can no longer come to decorate" " I am sorry for last minute" .... ok so when was she planning to call me to tell me this ? Secondly, Sally continued to tell me that I can still drop off the decorations and store them in a room , on Friday August 7th between 9:00- 1:00pm Friday August 7th : My family and I load up 3 cars , and drive 1 hour and 10 minutes to arrive to the lake house and NO ONE IS HOME. I call Sally and her voicemail states she is off and away August 7th, 21st - 30th . Thank you Sally for causing me a stress overload the day before my wedding. Very irresponsible of this housing manager to do this. I could not believe my eyes, I emailed her and recieved no response to this day!!!! Luckily a woman drove in that very moment, by the name of Mary Anne, which rents office space in the second floor , she opened the door for us and allowed us to store our things in a room upstairs. Mary anne and Dan were very helpful , and provided em with the care takers phone number Mr. Haas who I contacted later that afternoon to request for premises to be cleaned prior to my event. The caretaker was very helpful the day of our event and made sure everything was found clean and left cleaned at the end of the night. The last thing a bride or couple should go through is a stressful moment due to the venue in where we have paid so much money to have our wedding take place. I believed in this lakehouse and Sally's work ethics. I never would have imagined to have such a terrible experience. In addition to this she was not present the saturday of my event either. Neither did she request a copy of our bartenders liqour licence certification after driving us nearly crazy for this months before. What kind of unorganized , careless woman do you have running your business? Please look into this matter and please reach out to me, because I know this venue is owned by the city/county and not privately owned by Sally. There has to be management over her and I very much wish to be contacted I would not take my time to express such a long detailed review if I did not feel so disgusted by my terrible experience with this manager .

Let's start with the positives: It's beautiful, accessible, and reasonably priced for the location. The caretaker was accommodating a sweet. The scenery and unique setup of the house lends itself well to true photographic artists. Now for the negatives: There really was only one negative aspect of our experience, and that was Sally. She was fine to start with, but two weeks before our wedding told us that we could not have our caterer use his smoker on the property due to it being a fire hazard in a nature reserve. This would have been understandable had she, and the fire marshal, not already approved the use of an open fire pit on the property. Naturally this confused us and we tried to sort out the issue with the marshal ourselves. Long story short, she was being untruthful, was not up to date on the codes, and really just didn't want to damage the grass so she passed the buck to someone else. She was also very intrusive while we were setting up, and rude to everyone until she realized we had hired event planners with us. We would recommend this establishment to everyone, everywhere, save the detail of this woman being responsible for facilitating the event. Be cautious when booking with them, and get everything in writing well in advance.
