This was kind of a sad experience visiting the South DeKalb Mall. I hate to see stores going out of business just like they are back home in Maui. My fiance and I stopped in for Cinnabon, which is situated past the food court at a kiosk, and decided to walk around while we waited for our order. Now, don't get me wrong - there's still a good amount of stores here. With some renovations, new stores, and current business they could make a turn around. From what it sounds like though, this mall is definitely not what it was in its prime. There were only two restaurants open in the food court when we went: Mandarin Express and American Deli. The other three or four vendors were closed up. Piccadilly's is right there when you walk in, but I heard they haven't had the best of ratings. Besides Cinnabon, there's Auntie Anne's, and one of the well known cookie shop franchises, but there's not much else in the way of food. As some Yelpers mentioned, there are a lot of club and party wear stores here, so that might be worth looking into if you're interested. There are a bunch of shoe stores too and a few kiosks. There's also a DMV here which is probably one of the most useful things left. It was sad to see the Macy's closing though. All of these brick and mortar stores going under, closing location after location. I'm not even really a fan of online shopping. I like to touch and feel fabrics and try stuff on, so I don't like that the internet is winning against stores I can walk into. Overall, it was worth a look and walkthrough. I'm not a big partier though, so the type of apparel they carry isn't really worth a second visit for me. I wish South DeKalb the best though. Hopefully they'll stay open and can diversify their options more in terms of both clothing stores and food vendors. read more

Yes, people 5 stars. When it comes to ghetto malls, no one does it better. Yes, you have your Greenbriar's and West Ends, but baby...In Decatur is where it is greater. I'd promised a friends daughter that I would buy her either some boots or a couple of outfits for Christmas and when I asked her where she wanted to go, and she said South Dekalb Mall, I didn't know if to pass out or pack my gun. My first thought, was what is in that mall except Macy's, Foot Locker, and Lady Foot Locker, but then I remember the last time I was there, I had the best buffalo wings and fried fish special that I'd ever encountered in a mall food court so I got excited, grabbed my bougie daughter, called my friends daughter and set up the meet up time. My daughter and I got there first, and for those of you that know my daughter, she got out the car, talking bout this is so ratchet, but eyes sparkling with energy and excitement. By the time my friend daughter got there, my daughter and I had walked the entire course of the mall within 30 minutes and were ready to go. That begin said...there is a Macy's, Foot Locker, Lady Foot Locker, Bakers, Champs Sports and Anna's Linens in the mall. Geraldine, the lady that works at Anna Linens deserves a raise for being by far the friendliest of all the mall employees we encountered. When I live in Decatur and frequented the mall, Accessory World, Susan Wigs, Payless shoes, Macy's, and Harold Pener were in this mall at that time and they still are. 20+years or so ago. Talk about longevity. There is a movie theater there, and last time I went to this mall, it wasn't, so that an improvement. Right? I went to the website, and the home page features the Macy's banner and not much else, that lets you know that the mall itself knows its value and if not for Macy's there would not be a department store in the entire mall. At least DeKalb county residents have a drivers license and tag and tax office within the mall. Basically, if you want to support some small business, buy some urban wear (read jeans, graphic tees and bodycon dresses) and you like to people watch. This is by far the place to do it. I've been going to this mall since I was in college. I can definitely say that the mall is much safer (hardly any fighting among young people and a lot less crime). I get my hair cut in the mall and is very pleased with the barber shop and level of service. While the mall doesn't have much variety of stores, the stores are clean and the service is pretty good. This mall is not in the same class as a Mall at Stonecrest, Perimeter or Lenox and it's not trying to be. The reason why it's relatively a successful mall (success, meaning it's busy and many of the same stores are still there and thriving) is that it caters to young men and women. Also, the DMV is very fast and efficient each time I've gone there. My only complaint about this mall is that it needs updating and renovating like yesterday. read more

Came to do a little shopping for an event I have coming up. This mall has a lot of parking available. It is not a very busy mall either. Most of the stores are not well-known stores. There is only one large department store here; Macy's. There are some fairly decent restaurants in the food court, but it's not a large food court either. The mall was clean and the stores that we're open we're all clean too. I did not find anything I was looking for here. I did, however, get a pretzel from Auntie Anne's. It was good. I would shop at this mall again if I needed something from a hole in the wall type store and maybe a cookie from the Great American Cookie Company. read more

I am not going to lie, the mall is a dump. The Macy's is small and has a crappy shoe dept. The food court only has fast greasy options: Some Chinese, American Deli and I think Chik Fila, and and then Auntie Ann's and the Picadilly's, if you are into eating that s..t. I think If I was held at gunpoint and had to choose, I would go with Auntie Ann at that point! However, the boutiques for sexy party clothes and the wig shops are the reason I go there. I do not need a wig aside from Halloween time, but I do need some evening wear and there are at least 5 stores, including good ole cheap Rainbow! (crappy clothes but cute for accessories) Now, Do not expect high class materials in your dresses, they're all from China, but there are good deals under $35 dollars and if you are feeling Slutty, then indulge, because they have that inventory as well. Cheap shoes are available in two trendy cheap shoe stores, then add some Foot locker (not sure why Foot locker has to divide the men, kids and women into three different suites tho). I Like this mall. YES it is urban without a-lot of stores but it is close by and i can run in and pick up cute date night outfits. Recently found out the movie theater was closed. So disappointed because it was a nice inexpensive theatre. This mall hosts a-lot of community events, including free health screenings which is really awesome!!! read more

This mall is G-H-E-T-T-O. I'm used to hood malls so it's not particularly bothersome. You'll find some ratchet people on both ends of the spectrum. From D-boys to the wannabe ATL model types. I even witnessed a couple of business transactions (drug deals) in the men's restroom and the supplier asked if I needed some weed. I refused of course. It's a regional mall that lacks higher end stores. The only moderately upscale store at this mall is Macy's. Many of the stores are catered to the African American crowd. Some examples of the stores that you can find are Foot Locker, Foot Action, Jimmy Jazz, City Gear, Champ Sports, GNC, Gamestop, and Anna's Linens. The food court is nothing special. There's a Dairy Queen, an American Deli, and Picadilly's. I gave it two stars because most of the stores are just variations of the same thing: ghetto fabulous clothing stores, shoes, and hair shops. Nothing here really to come out of the way for. Well, except for the Georgia DMV/Driver Services and the DeKalb County Tag Office. Great location for people watching though. read more

A great example of what a little revitalization and community investment can do to a formerly run-down shopping center. A few years ago there were a ton of vacancies in here and it felt both desperate and sad. Thanks to the renovated movie theater/nightclub as an anchor, the mall has experienced a revival with almost complete occupancy and plenty of foot traffic. Why the three stars if it's so positive? Well, most of the stores are selling variations of the same things. If you're looking for athletic shoes and jerseys...well, you'd be in the right place. If you've lived in GA for any length of time, you know South Dekalb isn't going to wow you, but it's stil got a pulse and hasn't died on us yet like other malls either have or are about to. There's no Apple store here, nor any really high end/designer stores you may be used to, but it's worth a walk around or a visit to Macy's At one point there used to be an arcade but the Movie theater is still here. I think that this is a alright mall, as other reviewers pointed out, it's a hood mall. Thus, much other shops cater towards those type of people particular interest. I like coming to this mall from time to time, you'll see some attractive looking women whom I'll dare not to approach and that's for obvious reasons. There's lots of security within this mall and matter of fact the Dekalb County now have a police precinct next too the mall. Sometimes if not a lot undercover officers walk the mall in order to catch knuckle heads red handed. One time I was with a close friend and his brother, the guy brother was the type that likes to harass females and little did he know the last lady he tired was a police officer who was not in uniform at the time. The patrons who visit this mall are not necessarily terrible people. And from what I see it just be the usual atypical black behavior that goes on and maybe some of us are tired of seeing such stuff. The only store I really shop out of is Macy's, I'm anti footlocker for some reason and the other clothing stores really don't suit me given my age. I think it's more geared towards a younger coward. Now the reason why I didn't give this mall 4stars is this, the food court is normally dirty and I don't like my options there. The restrooms are deplorable! Some sick minded person just loves to play with his feces inside of that restroom. Man if you take away those 2 issues then this mall could easily get 4stars. read more

This mall has really declined over the years! It used to be a very good mall during it's prime. I used to love going to the video arcade that used to be there when I was a kid YEARS ago.It even had a JCPenny then.It was very diverse in stores and thriving. Now it just seems to cater to a young urban demographic.There's no variety! The mall is very bland and outdated.. Too many fake jewelry/ shoe and clothing stores around every corner that basically sell the SAME things in each one. Food court is blah.. a basic Chinese spot, American Deli, Dairy Queen and some other wing spot. I only spent about 10 minutes walking around until I got bored and walked out. Do yourself a favor and just go to Stonecrest Mall 5 miles down east of I-20. A lot better than here. read more

LOL! you wont find any high end designers but who would expect to on candler rd? i go here to get sneakers and thats bout as far as it goes. the clothing here is not my style at all. the mall is really small so im usually in and out within a few minutes. the only stores i go to are dtlr, fame, and footlocker. the clothes are a definite miss for me but thats not what i come here for so it really doesnt bother me. theres also a place i take my jewely to get fixed at. they do a really good job and they are very reasonably priced. the food court is kinda sucky read more

I've been to this mall 4 or 5 times. Usually I go to the dmv and walk the building after. If you want to be shot, mugged, or have your car stolen this is the place to be. I can stare at people at any mall don't need to go there to get a beating becase someone felt I looked at them too long. When are they shutting down this bootleg place?!?! Proceed with caution & don't let people catch you laughing at their hair. This is the best place ever to people watch. I would have given it 3 stars but they recently closed the movie theater that was attached to it which is the main reason I ventured to this mall. The stores are always closing and changing. It's nowhere near the best mall in ATL or even close to that category but if you need to make a quick stop to purchase a thing or two you might find it. My advice for a good time here is simply going and sitting at the Food Court and watch people walk by...thank me later! read more

I guess the neighborhood patrons are spending enough money to keep the doors open, so that is a positive note. I came to this atrocious joke of a mall to get my drivers license renewed on a Saturday morning around 9AM. I decided to walk the mall afterwards even though only a few stores were open. A lot of people were lined up for some sort of shoe sale at several stores and many black folks were walking doing laps. My daughter and I decided we would do some laps as well until the stores open. Not once but twice by two different "guards". Security decided white folks shouldn't be shopping here apparently and told me I needed to leave until the mall opens. Despite the fact that several people were also walking (again, black folks) and many people were lined up to buy shoes. So I decided to leave and will get my license renewed elsewhere next time and my hard earned cash will also be spent at less racist malls. read more

i used to be on the eastside all the time and out of the hood malls in the A, like another reviewer said, this is one of the best. They have really brought this mall up from the ground. Their american deli is one of my favs for wings. the place to hit up before the club, theyve got the dmv in there so u can get your license issues worked out, and the movie theater. every malls gotta have a macys. theyve got the arab carts with fake jewlery, parfumes, etc. and the eyebrow spa by jeffrery (or the arches) is THE place you need to go to to get ur brows done. read more

A lot of the reviews describe this mall pretty accurately. This mall does not have many franchise stores besides Macy's, Footlocker, Payless, and a few others. A lot of the stores are overpriced boutiques. I walked into Bakers and I was shocked by the setup. Stacks of boxes everywhere and a very musty odor. I remember Bakers at Mall of Georgia and Gwinnett Place Mall. Neither locations were in such disarray. read more

This is another social spots for kids who just want to walk back and forth thru the mall. I'm not knocking it because I used to get dropped off at the mall specifically for that purpose when i was 14-15. They closed the NY & Company which was the only store I used seriously shop at. This mall is okay. Nothing special. I've personally never shopped here because I only regularly visit here to go to my Navy recruiters' office. As far as the food court, there's limited choices. Subway, Dairy Queen, Chinese food, BBQ spot and a couple others. There's alsoal a pretzel spot, cookie spot, and a Piccadilly cafeteria. The bathrooms in the food court is...somewhat passable. I honestly hate walking through this mall by myself because I always get stared at heavily and people try to talk to me. I know it's probably because I'm Filipino and I guess we're not so common in Georgia. Regardless, I still hate walking through here without my fiancé though. The only thing I love about this mall is the huge beauty store outside the mall called Chapel Beauty. They had really great deals on Shea butter and a huge makeup selection! Wouldnt be so bad if all the small business owners were a representation of the ppl and culture who actually shop here. As many have said there are few recognizable store fronts. Many small businesses owned by immigrants who do not provide a high level of customer service. Everyone priases the Macys but the Macys is sub par as well with poor customer service and poorly executed inventory. The best thing about this place is the food court. And Fallas...i had never heard of this store but they have some pretty great deals on home interiors (towels, wall hangings, toys). read more

This mall has become a sad and pitiful example of what it once was. I miss all the great good quality clothing and shoe stores that it had. Now there is nothing to come here for but cheap crap. I live in the area and sometimes visit the Macys, but it doesn't have the same merchandise as other Macy stores; only the left overs. I tell you this mall used to be a great mall for shopping for everything but all those stores of the 70's and 80's have gone out of business. The merchandise back in the day was for everybody. If you weren't living in Atlanta 30 or more years ago you have no clue how great that this mall was. It is sad that this is all the black community can get. It is so you have to go to other areas to shop for decent merchandise, which take money out of our community; we have no choice given these choices. Shortly there will be no malls, only online shopping. Before malls people used mail order, we are approaching full circle. I really wish that this mall was great again. I think there have been about three shootings at this mall in recent years. They put the theatre back in it but I still haven't been and won't frequently go. They have some nice fashionable wear there but you can get that stuff anywhere. It's convenient but not the safest place to go especially on weekends or when it's crowded. It was one of the go to malls back in the day but I haven't been in years and dont plan on going. This is a "hood" mall. Do not leave anything of value or anything that may appear of value in your vehicle. Make sure you set your car alarm and park where you see security doing the most laps of the exterior of the mall. The stores inside the mall is a macys which looks like they have all the merchandise other macys couldn't get rid of and should become a macys outlet. The customer service is damn near non existent. If you need a weave/wigs, stripper esq/hoochie clothing, sneakers, kids uniforms, hats to match your sneakers, a haircut, hood style potraits finished off with a soft focus blur, and costume jewelry this is the place for you! you will find black businesses as well as Arab, indian, and Asian stores selling plenty of these things. Hey even if you want drag queen styled make up done they do it here as well. The food court if you want to call it that leaves much to be desired and I would strongly recommend you checking their food scores. I actually saw a shooting occur in the food court back in 2009 and can't say much has changed. It's a sad day when even a movie theater can't operate in a mall when there's not another one for miles and I mean miles!
