Theater
Winnie L.

This was my first time at the South Coast Repertory. It is a much smaller venue than the Segerstrom hall. They tend to have more plays than musicals here. I was lucky to score a deal for Million Dollar Quartet and apparently they have punch cards so if you buy 5 tickets, the 6th is free. I bought my tickets online and arrived half an hour before the show so there was no line to get my tickets. Parking is convenient, there are several lots nearby or you could park at the mall and walk over. Since the theater is small, every seat is a good seat. It was a little loud for my taste but I don't believe you would have that problem if you were to see a play. The staff was very friendly and I had no problems finding my seats. In addition to theater, they offer acting classes for children and adults which sounded interesting.

I have seen several plays here over the years. I enjoy the small intimate size of the theater. Yesterday was my first time seeing A Christmas Carol. I think they did an excellent job. The gentleman who played scrooge was fantastic. His sense of humor made the play even more enjoyable.

SCR presents first class theater! I'm a season subscriber for 40 years and I love not having to go to Los Angeles to see great plays!

South Coast Rep's Argyros stage is a small, cozy theater. All of the seats are comfortable and all offer good views of the performers--the photo below was taken from the last back row. I have seen some excellent performances here, most recently "The Staircase" on May 9th.

We just discovered South Coast Repertory, and we are now patrons forever! What a great theatre! We found it through an Instagram advertisement for "Little Shop of Horrors," which is one of my favourites, so we made a trek all the way to Costa Mesa from our humble abode in Lawndale on a Friday night. It was well worth it! The theatre is a medium-small size, and there really is not a bad seat in the house! Our seats from row J were fantastic, but I'm sure even sitting in the last row would give you an excellent view of the stage and actors! The seats themselves are standard. We loved this venue for its intimacy, decent prices, and lovely audience members. It was certainly a fun night going downtown, home to Skid Row! This company does something I have not experienced before, which is "Pay Your Age." Unfortunately, I'm too old for this discount, but my wife is still in her late 30s and makes the cut! This pricing worked well, as we saw a number of younger patrons in the audience, laughing, clapping, and dancing along! As an educator, you can also get a small discount on your ticket. There are a number of parking options around this area, as this theatre shares space with Segerstrom and is by a number of businesses and South Coast Plaza. We already have plans to return next season for a few shows. South Coast Repertory has become one of our favourite theatres!

We went to see Little Shop of Horrors and I was shocked at the quality of the show. The production was seamless and beautiful. The acting, sound, props and stage were amazing. I almost cried! Easy to find parking on the adjacent structures. You can buy wine, beer and other beverages. They'll put them in small cups with lids and you can bring them into the show. The seats are actually comfortable.

Very nice little theatre. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. Much smaller venue than the Segrestrom. We saw Little Shop of Horrors. Fantastic performance! Top of the line professional actors and singers, choreography. We spent our 15 minute intermission strolling around the beautiful grounds outside. Just a short walk over the bridge to the South Coast Plaza with lots of dining options. I can't wait to go back and see A Christmas Carol. I have been to the Segrestrom many times, but this is my first time at the S C Repertory. Definitely coming back for more performances.

Although I had no idea what this play was about, or where South Coast Repertory was, I decided to put my name down for a pair of tickets during a silent auction, was the only person who bid on them so I won! and Wow, what a great decision to put my name down! This venue and production of Coleman '72 really set the bar high! Coleman '72 is about a Korean American family on a road trip across the US. It struck many chords with me being Asian American and understanding the delicate and complicated relationship between immigrant/refugee parents' heartache of sacrifice and struggle and their US born children's take on happiness and success. Their were also themes of guilt, forgiveness, and how nostalgia plays on our perception of truth and memory. I quote from the playwright, Charlie Oh, "nostalgia is dangerous." The actors' powerful performance left me in tears several times, partly in a cathartic manner as it conjured up my own memories and feelings of my father. Perhaps I was not the only one as I also heard other people blowing their noses in the bathroom just as I did. The venue was medium sized yet intimate. I like the small touches such as fun facts about Coleman products that were placed in the bathroom stalls. This place is a quick walk via the pedestrian bridge from South Coast Plaza. Highly recommend this play for high quality theater production and acting!

Little Shop of Horrors

Came here recently for the Little Shop of Horrors show. I've never seen the play but it was absolutely brilliant. There're really no bad seat in the house; all seats are relatively close. We did imbibe and got a beer and one of the novelty mixed drinks specifically for the show. There were cute small Audrey plants for sale. It was just all so great. Actors wore mics so it was easy to hear them from anywhere. It was great.

Beautiful theatre that honestly doesn't have any bad seats. The parking is a bit of a walk from the theater. I believe it was $15 to park. I went to go see, "A Raisin In The Sun" and had a blast. Great lighting and sounds. I would come back here again for another play.

Once upon a time, this Faerie Queen ventured forth into the realm of the theatre. What a lovely venue! The small theater was perfect for being close to the players. The acoustics are perfect! This is a gem of a theater. Tickets are not too dear. Given the variety of shows playing, and the decent prices, this is a place that can be enjoyed often. The end.

My first time here to support my friend who were in a reading. The place was quite nice, parking structure was nearby, $12 for parking, or you can park on the street, closest place would be across the street then walk. Besides my friend's play. They also offering tours of the building, and they were having a playwrights festival for people who love theater arts and acting, definitely check it out, a lot of programs here

Great vibe

Ask the Community - South Coast Repertory

Looking for acting classes for my kids that have showcases with agents and managers in orange county. Are they non-existent?

SCR does have acting classes for kids as well as adults. I get emails all the time advertising upcoming acting classes. Whether there are any agents is unknown, they do not state that they have or have not such classes specifically.

So I decided to give this studio a shot being so close to me and not having to drive to LA more than I was already doing for other classes and auditions. What I found was a very friendly and knowledgeable staff with everything you could ask for in an acting school. Although still relatively new to acting, in my short 18 months I've landed a highly reputable talent agent, was the principal role in 2 national commercials, and was cast as a supporting role in an upcoming feature film by a major studio. I'm currently going on network auditions 2-3 times a month and have built a rather impressive resume thus far. All of this is because of the core basics I have learned at ASOOC. Without my acting technique, I would not be where I'm at today with so much more to learn and show. Their 7 Pillars of Acting technique has grounded my performance in every way possible allowing me to be in the moment under any circumstance presented to me. My only wish is that I could leave more than 5 stars. This is by far the best school in Orange County.

It's in a really nice area of Costa Mesa close to a bunch of hotels, south coast plaza and some of the best restaurants. (So many options for you to pick from and have dinner before your show) The architecture of the building itself is really beautiful. I would say it's a little tucked in, because I am always in this area and have never seen it before. The ambiance inside is nice as well. It's extremely clean This place has a parking garage and valet. Unfortunately, we had no idea they had valet. So we just automatically parked in the parking garage. But they do have a little walk way that is extremely easy to get to the building from the garage The lines went extremely fast for getting into the building. There was no restrictions on handbag size. ( or at least they didn't say anything to me about it / could differ from show to show and who is performing) All I had to do was open my purse and walk through a metal detector. Everyone was so friendly Once we entered the building, there are tons of staff directing you where to go if you need help finding your section They do have stairs when you walk in, but they have elevators. I chose to walk up a few stairs and then take the elevator to get to our seats We had second floor box circle level seating. It was extremely easy to get to the seats and the lady who took us to our seats was extremely kind and helpful She also gave us the rules - No placing your handbag on the railing, no video or flash photography I can't stress enough, the importance of elevators and it being accessible. So 5 stars for that The bathrooms were very clean and had a great amount of bathroom stalls. So there was no line I only saw one very tiny stand where you could get refreshments. I did not get anything, so I don't know what they had to offer (such as alcohol or if they had any food) The write up online for the show we went to for Tchaikovsky's Fifth & Avi Avital Pacific Symphony -Experience Tchaikovsky's Triumphant Fifth & Mandolin Virtuoso Avi Avital! Being a huge fan of the film, I rushed to get tickets thinking it was actual live stage performance, then come to find out it was just a screening. Oops! Nothing can replace the original cast of this iconic film; however, the stage version was pretty impressive with the handling of the changing of stage scenes. It was highly abbreviated though, in my opinion. Tickets were for General Admission so we chose our seats upon doors opening. Every seat (approximately 750 seats) in the house seems to have non-obstructive view. We went for the first row center on the balcony level. Love this view. If you need a snack, there is wine, beer, water, soft drinks, and packaged snacks like cookies, chips, and candies for sale. Parking is in the structure right next to the theatre. (US$10-15) Ushers and all staff were very polite and courteous. Enjoy!
