Source urban just closed down. I will miss everything about this place. Apparently it is turning into fine dining (yuck). On the last day of business, I had a saison which honestly tasted better in the tasting glasses she gave me. The service on the last day was incredible. I tried 3 different sample of beer-summer saison, Saku saku, and blueberry milkshake. The saku saku was pretty mild. Honestly I should have gotten the blueberry milkshake. Their milkshake IPAs were always solid. I am definitely going to have to go to their Jersey location now since it is all that is left. I also got the frickles because who doesn't like a solid fried pickles. I did wish the fried part stayed on the pickles but it is what it is. read more

The beer selection and the smash burger alone are five star! For the brews, there's something for everyone. Several IPA's, lagers, stouts, etc to choose from and you won't be disappointed. As someone who seeks quality Belgian and craft beers, this is the place to be. And, that smash burger, oh my! The egg rolls and burrata salad are yummy too. That said, the service is very slow and you have to flag them down to order, for a refill, for the check, etc. you can (and should) do better here. Aside from that, they were also out of a few food items and beers so.... In any case, I'm hoping this is a blip. This brewery has some of the best beer in the states in my opinion. We have been to over 100 breweries and its not uncommon for us to find one amazing beer or good all around but its rare to find a tone of amazing beers and that is what we found. Orange crush beer was amazing and if you like hazys with a very fruit forward taste (like me) this would be right down your ally. The Peanutbutter porter had great smooth peanutbutter taste without bwing overwhelming or too sweet. I think peanutbutter is perfect for porters and this is a prome examplem. Also i am really bias tword draft over canned but the pog sour was the best sour i have had in a long time. The perfect mix of sweet and sour with deep passion fruit and orange flavors. The staff is also phenomenal. Great with recommendations, super friendly and generous with samples. We talked to some of them for a long time while it was slower. The atmosphere is pretty great too. Huge bar island with good seating, and plugs that makes it easy to talk with people. The obey thing with the bar I would change is how close the chairs are. They were almost all touching so getting in is tricky. The internet was actually pretty good here too. We worked here for a few hours on a weekday and it was fast and quiet enough to work (though gets a bit louder later) I will be back whenever I can and if I ever live in philly again this will be my spot. read more

Located in Fishtown just across the street from the notorious Barcade is Source Urban Brewery. A large bar fills the center of the place while booths flank the wall through to the back. Rich black and wood decor throughout. With bright commercial pop art on the walls. Think of it like the old neon bar signs with a modern flare. The food? Just as bright and flavorful. Our Philly Cuban had the right amount of kick and was cooked perfectly. The chicken sandwich though "twice fried" as described was surprisingly juicy and tender. The egg-roll was the real winner as probably one of the tastiest ones we've had in a while. Perfectly crispy and not only fully packed. Full of flavor with a sprinkling of red peppers mixed in. The service was standard. The prices on par with the neighborhood and enough to take home for later. Definitely worth the drive and the parking roulette that comes with Fishtown. read more

She said it came with mustard and beer cheese but she could give me 2 beer cheeses. I said, 'two beer cheese please.' I have 3 beers each was better than the last. They all had a ton of flavor. When it comes to ordering good food while traversing the Fishtown brewery trail, Source definitely sources some of the best options out there. And it delivers a fantastic well-rounded selection of beers in the process! I first enjoyed and saw promise for the space when it housed the short-lived Fishtown BrewPub (https://www.yelp.com/biz/fishtown-brewpub-philadelphia). But despite not making it for the long term it was a great spot for a brewery that didn't brew on-site and needed a kitchen space. And since picking it up Source made it there own right down to having an Amberella GothHeart mural as their centerpiece. Small plates include an awesome pork roll and cheddar filed pretzel, fried garlic onion pickles with spicy aioli, and party wings in an abundance of styles and spice levels. For mains, sammiches are on the menu, and my favorites are the Philly Cuban and the BBQ Mac & Beer Cheese sandwich. The beer is the main reason to go here, andthe menu is one of those that is absolutely not oversaturated with IPAs even though they have some good ones. in the past I've enjoyed a plentiful selection of pickle beers, pastry stouts, tart fruit ales, Belgian tripels, yuzu wheat beers, imperial coffee stouts, triple dry hopped ipas, maibocks, and then some! While they don't do flights, you can get those beers served in different pour sizes to really expand upon that variety. read more

We previously really enjoyed Source, especially the smash burger and truffle fries. We hadn't visited in about 6-8 months and recently returned this week to find a noticeable decline in the quality of the food. They previously had excellent fries, we always thought house cut, so we were very disappointed to find that they have been replaced with apple bees-esque, freezer section fries. Despite the obvious change in quality, they are still charging $14 for the truffle fries! As for the meals, the smash burger was under seasoned and bland, and the fried chicken sandwich was similarly bland, more breading than chicken, and just doused in hot sauce. We hope that this was just a bad night to stop in and not characteristic of the quality of food they now serve, but we're unsure that we'll return in the future. read more

Drinks (seasonal beer and cider) were great. Seasonal beer was elf something and as a non-beer drinker (read: hates the taste of hops) it was pleasant and I would have taken another sip. The cider, although not made in house, was a Hale and True Cider that was drier and very nice. I wanted the food to be better but was no means bad. Source brewing is a pretty solid brewery option for the neighborhood! I've been there two times now on a weekend and enjoyed it. Being someone who cares about the environment I love their "farm to glass" mission. I think the beers are pretty solid, last time I was there I wished there were a few more lower abv options. I thought the best sounding beers were the ones that were close to or over 10%, and that is a bit high for me! The first time I was there the bartender was attentive and served us right away. The second time was very crowded, a few bartenders passed by us before anyone offered us a menu. But for the most part we have received good service. Will definitely be going back. read more

On a rainy evening we stopped in while checking out Fishtown. Unlike other breweries that are in huge industrial spaces this gave off cozy pub vibes, especially as we sat in window seats looking out on the damp streets while inside nice and warm! AMAZING place for food and drinks in Fishtown!! I've been here more than a few times already and have brought friends from out of town when we check out this area. Parking of course is street parking so can be a pain in this area FOOD First off their food is amazing!! Their double fried wings... MUST GET! You get 4 HUGE wings... extra crispy with great flavors. Be prepared to get messy tho. They've got a nice selection for their charcuterie boards, small plates and large plate options. I've never had enough room to try their desserts tho.. I will make that a goal next time! Drinks Always love their rotating tap menu... I'm glad this location popped up because I have not yet gone to their New Jersey brewery location, but with this place being closer, I get to try some of their unique brews without the travel. My only negative is that depending on the time you go, service is always a bit on the slower side. Sometimes walking in, it's that awkward part where you're like "do i seat myself" or "do I keep waiting while other people stare at me". My most recent time, we sat ourselves in one of the booths, and then was moved to the bar because they didn't keep track of their online reservations and forgot to save these seats. Oh well! Went to source urban brewery tonight with some friends. Very underwhelming experience with a high price tag. Hot wing dip was great! Unfortunately that was the only thing we enjoyed. Someone told me "Check out Source Brewery, they have a really good turkey sandwhich!" And that made me sus, simply because it's not my preference to eat a turkey sandwhich for dinner. Source caters "Pennsylvania Chic," the atmosphere, the beers, the food, is all fine. I'm not the right customer for their business. I ordered a PB chocolate stout and Source of Wit beers. The stout was underwhelming in flavor. First, it tasted like a porter. Second, it didn't provide a rich chocolate & peanut butter flavor that other stouts of the same kind provide. The aroma was better than the beer. Maybe it was a bad batch. Source of Wit is a solid wheat beer, but it didn't taste any special compared to an Allagash White. It's just fresher in flavor. I thought it was over priced for the quality. Same with the food, over priced for the quality. I ordered the Ruben and the truffle fries. For the Ruben, it would have been better if it was served on a smaller plate Lolol. The portion is so little for what you're paying. It was a good Ruben sandwhich though! The meat was nicely salted and tasted smoked. The slaw provided crunch, but didn't add on to the flavor. I wish the sandwhich was served on a sourdough or something other than wheat bread. I think the sandwhich needed a little more acid somewhere to break the fatty meat. The truffle fries could have been topped with more toppings like cheese or truffle. The fry thickness to topping ratio is like 5:1. And the truffle looked like it was squeezed out from a tube. Source Brewing serves upscale Pennsylvania style foods and drinks. It not my cup of tea, I don't plan on coming back. read more

We had a five star experience here last night, but I'll have to visit at least one more time to bump my actual review to 5 stars. Spacious bar with a dozen or more tables. Super comfortable chairs at the bar. Seriously. What comfort. The ladies behind the bar were super friendly and chatty to answer any questions you may have about the beers, food, etc. They offer about a dozen house beers and some creative cocktails and limited wine. Beers were definitely hop forward, but they did have a Pilsner, Belgian Tripel, Rice Lager and a huge coffee pumpkin spiced beer that was so tasty yet dangerous (12%). We decided on small plates. Frickles which were very heavy on the breading, but thick slices, a Buffalo chicken dip with tortilla chips that was real good and brussel sprouts with fried hot peppers that was super yummy too. Beers were fairly solid. They offer half pours, which is always a plus. Reasonable pricing and cans to go too. Looking forward to trying some entrees on my next visit. read more
