This was a small spot with mostly a bar to sit at with a few surrounding tables. We were a bigger party, so they set us up some combined tables in the back. The menu had snacks and handheld items to choose from. The service was appreciated and friendly while everything came out promptly. I had a beer-braised chicken sandwich ($13). It also came with a house giardiniera, provolone, arugula, and Calabrian chili mayo on a seeded bun. This was alright. There was a lot of chicken and provolone present, but I was hoping for a little more of the giardiniera and mayo. Overall, this was alright. It just seemed like something was missing (maybe more mayo and giardiniera!). The bread also could have been toasted so all of the filling held up. I also tried the smash burger, which was very good. It was seasoned well. I also tried the BLT and curly fries. The fries were crispy while the BLT was okay. The bread on the BLT was charred, and soft, which I did not find appetizing for this type of sandwich. Everything was really fresh. Will I go back? Perhaps. read more

First review 2017 - Second one 2025 - It's gotten worse. I don't know who their grill cook is but he burnt EVERY SINGLE ROLL! It was actually comedic in that he literally LITERALLY burnt every. single. roll. The beer, yet again, not hoppy at all. We consumed 2 different kinds and they both tasted the same even though one was an 'ale' and another a 'hazy' - yeah... the same. I just wish this place would step up their game more because the space is amazing and the staff are lovely. Just make better beer and stop stinking up the place with 'burn' smell, please. read more

Second District Brewing, Philadelphia, PA. Different Cheesesteak'esque sandwich #1260. Spoiler alert: I have determined this to be a vegan cheesesteak. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about my visit to Second District Brewing. I love the building, decor, and eating spaces. They were slow (sorry for them, but happy for me), so I got to ask Curt a lot of questions. He knew every answer. I saw a deep-fried oyster mushroom sandwich on the menu. I saw Second District made beer cheese on the menu. I asked Curt if they could put them together for me. He said yes. We decided beer cheese on the side was best. They were tasty, separate, and together. I enjoyed my beer. Bonus bathroom video. read more

Stopped in for a happy hour afternoon drink and snack. Cool decor with a nice big bar and some tables to sit at. Also a back room with more tables. Draft menu has about a dozen house brews, as well as other options. Food menu has lots of handhelds / sandwiches. Smash burg was tasty and a nice deal for happy hour. Thanks read more

My daughter and I have gone twice for dinner and happy hour and been really pleased. Great staff and tons of options for vegetarians. Everything was so delicious, especially for bar food. They are very conscientious for gluten free folks. I don't drink beer but they carry a PA bourbon that I really like. read more

Really solid brewery. We came here for a midday drink to do some work on a Sunday and it was super quiet. The space itself isn't huge but there are plenty of tables and table options. Bathroom area is quite large. The draft menu is fine, always on the hunt for IPAs and the 6 feet below was much better than the hazy IPA (the latter of which I didn't care for). Service was incredibly friendly and attentive. Easy parking nearby and overall a very accessible experience. We didn't order food but those that did smelled tasty. I don't know that I would specifically come back for the beer but if you're looking for a place to hang out it's definitely a great option. read more

Stopped here for a bite and a drink with my brother and his family on a Sunday afternoon. We were able to get a table and sit by a big picture glass window. We all ordered sandwiches and ordered a beer. I ordered a tofu sandwich, my daughter a pork shortie. Burgers were also ordered at the table and we were able to share and scarf down 3 baskets of fries. When trying to decide what beer to order we were offered tastings that helped us decide. The food and drinks were good as well as atmosphere. This is a decent place to share drinks and food with friends! read more

The really good chicken fingers devours come from @seconddistrictbrewing . These chicken fingers are literally MADE TO ORDER! These chicken finger were sooo fresh and simply delicious. While here i also I had a Mutual Dream which was very delicious and wasn't too heavy. It had a really sweet taste and didn't have any bad aftertaste. Great beers and food with satisfying vegan options. The vegan chopped cheese is particularly fantastic, but I do miss the amazing vegan wings they used to offer. Service and jams are both consistently good and the outdoor seating means you can grab a bite and a beverage while out walking the dog. Inside high tops and bar seating are comfortable and the bathrooms are clean and well provisioned. Love it. read more

Ambiance wise they have a nice set up here. Lots of reclaimed wood, vintage mirrors and signage surround you. Small side kitchen. On-street parking was found not too far away and there seemed to be a whole lot of auto repair joints in the area. Beer wise the offering was average, multiple styles were offered which was nice and everything from the taps to the glassware was clean. The service for being a bit dead at lunch time was underwhelming. The bartender pretty much ignored me, kept to her phone and when her girlfriends arrived she found her conversation voice. I had an empty glass and was never asked if I wanted another beer. I got more of a move on vibe from the bartender, so I did. I felt very unwelcomed. The cook served me up dry, over cooked wings with old white carrots and curly fries. The curly fries were actually good, the side sauces for the wings were Franks Red Hot and what looked like Bullseye BBQ. Overall the value wasn't there and in this neck of the woods there are better options. I hope as this young brewery grows they improve. I will return to give them a second chance. read more

I was visiting Philadelphia for a weekend and got a recommendation to head to South Philly & East Passyunk. Definitely glad that we did. Loved the fried tofu sandwich. The bread was very soft and good. It had a gochujang aioli which was delicious. It was all complemented perfectly with some zuccini pickles that were a nice addition. Very cool atmosphere as well and super friendly servers. High recommend. read more

I've been here 5 times now, and feel I've tried it enough to give a fair review. Food: Truly some of the best food in the neighborhood at very reasonable prices. Fun menu, and the cooks do a great job at making everything delicious. Safe to say - best Buffalo cauliflower I've ever had. Beer: solid beer selection that rotates periodically. Frankly, I've only liked a handful of the beers but they're decent overall. read more

Loved the size of the bar, selection of beers, food options, and location! The 4 oz pours make it easy to try a lot of different drinks, the curly fries were perfectly cooked, and I enjoyed the vibe in general. Was a comfortable spot to sip, chat, and relax. People seem to come in groups or pairs, so not really a place to sit and meet a lot of others randomly, but I enjoyed being able to enjoy everything with good music in the background and good service. read more

Really cool place, great bar food and decent beer. My fiancé and I came here in a Friday night. The bar was full so we grabbed a hightop table in front of the bar. The decor is very rustic and hipster. Although it's a brewery, the bar menu offers wine and cocktails. The food menu had several appetizers and sandwiches. We ordered the pirogies, curly fries and buffalo cauliflower. I ordered the New Perspective on Life double rye IPA. It was ok but after two, I was over it. The star of the experience was the food. The buffalo cauliflower was the best I've ever had. It was breaded and the buffalo sauce was beneath the breading, which I've never seen before. The pirogies were delicious. They were served with delicious caramelized onions on top. Even the sour cream was phenomenal. The curly fries were as good as they get. The server was nice and attentive. We really enjoyed our experience. I look forward to returning. read more

The roast pork special is by far the worst cook on a pork butt I've every had. Says it's slow roasted, but that taste like a un season pork butt that was roasted for 2hrs and then sliced. The sandwich was good but the pork itself ruined it all read more

Pretty underwhelmed. I stopped in after messaging with the establishment via social media to see if I could grab a gift card for a friend's birthday. I'd figured that while I was there I'd stop and try it out as I'd never visited. I certainly won't be back. The older guy handling my gift card request seemed incredibly bothered and literally didn't exchange one word with me. There are a million other places to spend your money. Delicious brews, good bar snacks, and solid service in a chic South Philly brewery? Count me in! Visited this joint with some out-of-town friends and ordered the Vietnamese Nitro Coffee Stout brew and a ton of small plates. The brew was delicious and so was the food- especially the Ranch Pork Rinds - extra crispy and super light - they're way better than anything you can buy at the supermarket.. and it's served with a dipping sauce that compliments it perfectly! Also delicious: the fried pickles, pretzels (great mustard), cauliflower buffalo nugs, and their burger (which they successfully served medium rare for the win). read more

Golden beet salad was delicious, smash burger was great as well...I've been 3 or 4 times in the past for their basket of crispy chicken and its always been delicious and cooked perfectly...this time however it was left in the fryer for too long and served much too well done, and we had two orders at the table...I should have mentioned it to the waiter or cook during the meal...ill be back to give the chicken another chance, maybe just an off night for the fry cook ......the beer was delicious as always... read more

Checked out this brewery in South Philly on Saturday evening! Nice spot that had some awesome beers to offer. We were really excited to grab food here since they are very vegetarian friendly! We got the vegan wings with Thai chili sauce and the buffalo cauliflower. Both above average dishes. The wings were a bit on the sweet side with the sauce but overall I was a fan of them and would get them again, whereas my wife could take it or leave it. I had that attitude with the buffalo cauliflower because I thought they were a bit salty. My wife really liked them and said she would get them again. They have a nice menu with different options and we will head back to check out other things for sure. The beer list was very nice and the service was exceptional! As mentioned, we will come back not only for the brew but for the bites. As the evening went on the bar started to fill up. They have a separate room in the back with some tables. read more

While I love their beer, recently have been having some major issues with their service. The range haired bartender today was quite uncommunicative and rude, and felt like he was purposely delaying serving me. It's my second similar experience at this place as a person of color, and I bring that up as I did not witness a similar treatment with other patrons, notably not of color. This is Philly, SDB. Do better . read more

Unique and tasty beers tucked away on a side street. What a hidden gem! We were lucky enough to snag the front bench spot in the sun yesterday and dipped in the Flemish sour, the ipa and our favorite and hard to come by rauchbeer! Smokey and smooth finish, it reminded us of our visit to the original rauch beer brewery in Germany. Come home in the sidewalk and funky art mixed with antiques and alternative decor make give off a cool but hip vibe welcoming of anyone. We even ran into a fellow beer couple from our neighborhood who we had no idea was going to second district ( great minds think alike!) We didn't eat, so I hate to say 5 stars overall, but I will give 5 stars to the bartender who crossed the street to pick a paper bag out of the drain that a passerby shoved in as if it was a trash can. Thank you for being a good citizen and taking it upon yourself to beautify your city! read more

Second District Brewing - Sour smiles! - Breweries Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

This place was quite a find. My friend and I ended up here after searching on yelp for a new bar to try in Philly. The thing that really drew me in was the awesome looking food options and we were certainly not disappointed. When we first pulled up, we were concerned the place was closed since it was so dark in there, but as soon as we opened the door a grey cat came out and greeted us then walked off into the night. Inside there is pretty minimal lighting, hence why it looked like they were closed from the outside. We grabbed seats at the bar and I ended up ordering the Dad beer while my friend ordered the Stumpfbier. After tasting each other's, we decided to switch mostly because the Stumpfbier is smoked and basically tasted like bacon. For food, we ordered the fried pickles which I pretty much always insist on getting if available especially if I am drinking. They were just the right thickness and each bite was the right ratio of batter and pickle. We also ended up getting deviled eggs and they were pretty spectacular. You get the weird appetizer number of eggs (3 of them), but they are packed with flavor. The egg is creamy and the paprika adds the smokiness it needs while the small slice of pickled jalapeno adds the acid to bring it all together. The only thing that would have made the night better would have been if the cat stayed around longer. read more

Tried out Second District Brewing around Happy Hour and it wasn't crowded at all, so we sat at the bar and tried out a few of the brews. I liked the option of 4oz & 10oz sizes. The brews offered were unique and good (Rustic AF) - a few were underwhelming to me (Pils; Stup) . I decided to taste the "Bacon Stix" and it was "candied with maple syrup" - it was good - you can't go wrong with "Bacon"! Pros: The service at the bar was prompt and friendly. Cons: Difficult to find parking in the area. Overall, it's a cool place to check out. I would come back to sample more of the food selections. read more

YUM & YUM! Food and beer are out of this world and staff is so friendly! I had a 4 samplers which I enjoyed Very Much! All of the beers were extremely unique. The atmosphere was great, not too loud but everyone was enjoying themselves. It was a local hot spot and seemed like everyone knew each other. We took the broad line down to Second District Brewing and it was a quick walk after getting off at Snyder. It was well worth the trip and I highly recommend! read more

Found this spot after looking at the menu on PVW site which listed them as being one of the places that offered the prix fix vegan dishes - which happened to be the last day for that. We went around 1:30pm. There were a couple other patrons there as well. I asked the seemingly bored to death bartender if they were still doing it, she said it didn't start until 5. However, no where on the menu or the site stated that. And I wasn't waiting until 5. We ended up staying here bc we didn't have much time nor did we want to go drive around and have the hassle of parking again. We tried to get a beermosa, but was told they ran out of OJ and she couldn't make that. There were no apologies or anything else offered. Just a lethargic "oh well" type of expression. Her entire face seemed to say "blahhhh". We got two beers that they still had in stock which were good. We ordered the pierogies, artichoke tacos, and the vegan bbq plate. The tacos were very good. Loved the tempura artichokes that resembled a crispy fish taco. The pierogis were good too with carmelized onions on top and served with some kind dip which was also good. The vegan plate was just a vegan bbq seitan sandwich on a somewhat stale bun and fries and a pickle. Everything needed salt, which I had to ask for. I thought the bbq plate would have had more. The seitan didn't have much flavor but they give you bbq sauce to dip in so that helped. read more

I went here on my birthday for the very beginning of a small brewery tour!! It has a very cool vibe inside and the staff seemed very friendly with people sitting at the bar. I wouldn't say our server was the friendliest but he still was pleasant to be around and kept checking in on us. The beer list is quite limited to IPA's and pilsners but that being said- it's still really freaking good! The seltzer was also refreshing on a super hot day. I would definitely recommend this brewery and would love to try it again someday. read more

4.5 Stars This is quickly turning into a favorite brew pub of mine in all of North America. The place looks great and I love being there in the summer when the large garage doors open up. If I built my own brew pub, it would look and feel just like this place. The 4.5 is not a specific review of the beer alone (that's what Untapped is for) but I will say these guys do a great job brewing across the spectrum of beer styles. The have far more hits vs. misses - a rarity among the many new small breweries popping up across North America. I read that the owner / brewer have histories at Nodding Head, Tired Hands and Dogfish Head so not an accident they know what there doing. I've tried many of the smaller snack dishes. My favs are the Buffalo Cauliflower, Popcorn, Pierogies and Pub Board. Yet to the try the larger plates but they look good as they move through the pub. I like the different size options for the beers (3 options I believe). Staff were always friendly on multiple visits. If it was closer to Old City where I live, this would be my go-to place. If you enjoy good craft beer you need to get to Second District Brewing right now. The food and atmosphere up the experience further. Highly Recommended BK read more

Went for a few little bites and brews. Very satisfying. Our starters included the pretzel, which came with spicy mustard and warm, gooey gouda cheese dip, the warm goat cheese with olives and split grain crackers (to die for), and pierogis with BBQy onions. All so delectable. The beer wasn't bad, too ;) Would definitely come back for a more substantial meal (or the nibbles again). read more
