I'm going to start my review by saying one thing: Tiger Beer!…read more I know what you're thinking. "But Tiger Beer is Singaporean!" I find that if there's a way to make an ethnic restaurant feel more authentic, it is by importing the beer from that local region. With that being said, An Nam is probably one of the most authentic Vietnamese restaurants I've been to while in Germany. They have a variety of dishes on their menu. The coi guon (spring/summer rolls for those who aren't familiar with the name) here are probably the best I've had in Europe; caveat - I would have preferred the hoisin peanut sauce mix rather than nuoc mam. For my main meal, I ordered a Pho Tai. It came out as expected for a Vietnamese restaurant in this part of Europe. I'm not going to go into detail here on why the pho is different than what would find in Cali or New York, but if you are interested, you can see my other review on Vietnamese restaurants, mainly in Prague to explain the regional differences in the Pho served in Eastern Europe. To close out the meal, we ordered ca phe sua (or Vietnamese coffee). They were served with the dripper attachment on top of the glass - this sealed the deal for me. Even though it was pouring as we ate, it was rather glorious to be able to relax, eat and enjoy our meals, sipping on cold Tiger Beer and having an after diner smoke outside under an overhead, incandescent bamboo lamp as the rain casted off the umbrella/awning. Probably the only thing that would make this restaurant better is if they offered Banh Mi. :D

The feeling: Most of the waiters had big smiles and were very welcoming, but it didn't feel very welcoming as no one cared when you walked in. Ambiance: Great interior.

Traditonal no, but we are in Germany not Japan! Everything we ordered was good beyond just edible…read morebut nothing ticked all the boxes as the flavors we love from Japan, gyoza was probably the most traditional. Hubby ordered ramen it's the reason I choose this place on a cold day and his love of ramen. He ordered #2 Gyu ramen, he asked for extra spice (which comes in a bowl on the side) and changed the beef for the rolled pork which was his favorite and most authentic part of the ramen. Noodles were obviously thinner and from a bag compared to fresh ramen in Japan, but he was happy to enjoy and slurp all the broth! I ordered Yakitori as our appetizer which was all white meat which i prefer typically but never had yakitori this way nor had it not coated in the sauce as part of the grilling process; came with a yaki dip that was okay nothing great nor memorable. I ordered the chicken gyoza which was great, To round out my meal as I prefer all the stuff other than ramen I ordered the Karaage which was served on quinoa (which I learned I guess I like) it would have been 5 stars had it been served with lemon and find ground salt and pepper like it should be! All in all if we were back here we might hit them back up, unless better reviews for another japanese style place was in the area.

The interior with it's very East German feel, is on two floors with lots of dark wood and interesting paintings on the wall. My companion had a very lovely hot chocolate with mint which is one of their house specialties. The location is right on a main street thoroughfare in a shopping district so it's a great place to rest for a bit during a shopping day.

Upon ordering a latte, in German, as I usually do, and which is always enough to get my order across at Cafe Puschkin, she replied with some sentences that I was unfamiliar with and quickly. So I replied, in german, to excuse me because I don't speak german and that I didn't understand. Any reasonably decent human being would have taken literally any other course of action but she, with an unbelievably zazzy attitude, scoffed so loud I could nearly feel the breath coming out of her lipsticked mouth, shoved a latte on the counter (one that was already made--I presume she was making a fresher one for another customer that didn't offend her so maliciously), and didn't make eye contact with me or speak another word. I waited, as I assumed this drink that had been on the counter since I walked in was for another customer, for my latte to be made. A minute or so later, she (again, no eye contact, no words) pushed the drink closer to me and held out her hand for the payment. I'm not going to lie: I'm getting a little pleasure from this review as it, and my never-coming-back-here, seem to be my only recourse. I don't know how to tell some one to "up yours" in German, or I would have done that maybe instead and not resorted to Yelp. The latte is decent, if lukewarm.
