Our international work group met in Leuna last September. We were all housed at the Radisson Blu…read moreHotel in Merseburg. On a free night, a bunch of us decided to take a nice walk to the somewhat nearby Kreta Taverna.
One upfront warning: This is a cash only place. That turned out to a bit of surprise when the bill came. Luckily, we all scratched together enough cash to pay the bill. At the same time, there are parts of the world (like Eastern Germany and the Czech Republic) where it pays to have some cash handy just in case.
Also, this isn't Iceland where pretty much every local speaks English. I'm used to rolling with it and usually being polite, smiling, and pointing goes a long way. Having a German speaker around helps too.
The service was super friendly, albeit a bit slow between the kitchen and the food coming out. The woman running the place was probably a family member and a force of nature. If things need to be fixed, she was the guy and was really fun to watch. The food was very good, as was the atmosphere. That allowed for a nice relaxing evening among work friends and a chance to know each other a little better.
