Don't go here for highlights. Kim charges full price but doesn't deliver. I should have ran out when she started painting highlights on instead of using the foil papers that colorists usually use for highlights. 200 dollars later, My highlights looked nothing like the picture I showed her. I n fact I don't really have visible highlights and she argued with me about it rather than fix it. I was very specific about what I wanted and she proceeded to gaslight me that I was confused. I came here after reading yelp reviews and was hoping I picked the right place. On a whole this is a great salon. Atmosphere, staff, products, the list goes on. They gave me advice about my dry scalp which has been life changing literally. I enjoyed my time here. Felt like I was really treating myself. This salon caters to a lot of natural hair clientele so I wasn't sure if I'd be the 'odd ball' with a relaxer. My stylist (I forget her name!) was great and I enjoyed talking with her. Parking lot is easy which is a huge plus. The only downside is that I paid $70 for a wash and trim which feels like a lot. If it was more affordable, I'd be there all the time! read more

I was referred to Soultry Scissors by a relative and had been going there for a few months prior to the pandemic. I was delighted to discover a black owned salon that caters largely to clients with natural hair. Recently, I made an appointment , with some apprehension regarding social distancing. When I arrived, I was relieved to find that Kim, who is not only my stylist, but the owner, was accepting only one client at a time. On every visit, I have been greeted by a staff member immediately and serviced in a timely fashion. I've found the owner (and the staff) to be warm, friendly and professional. The salon is run like a well oiled machine and the prices are reasonable. There's always smooth music, creating a relaxing atmosphere. This week I visited and got great cut! They do lock styles! This was my first time. I saw Ramina. Was skeptical because there were no photos of locked hair on their Yelp page. Had a great time. Got a creative-trendy style and advice (that finally made sense) to help my damaged hair. The prices are high but not exorbitant. Paid a little extra for a retwist and style but it came with a much better neighborhood, wonderful atmosphere, friendly service, and free off street parking. No TV (as is my preference), smooth R&B, and they even have reclining chairs at the sink. You can elevate your feet while they are washing your hair. I've been going to Kim for a little over a year now. She gave me the best cut I have ever gotten and I've been sold ever since. They use great products and whenever I leave my hair feels soft and looks healthy. It's a bit pricier than what I was used to, but definitely worth it. I was definitely underwhelmed by the appearance of the shop, but that soon changed as I saw women leaving with gorgeous hair! I service everyone from relaxed, curly or natural. I was passing through the area and desperately needed to dye my hair. The receptionist was super friendly and was able to squeeze me in during the weekend. Kim, the owner, colored my hair and instantly made me feel welcomed. Teshana (sorry for the spelling!) gave the best head and neck massage ever while washing my hair. If you don't need your hair cut or styled but just want her to wash your hair, it's worth it! I had a long drive following my appointment but just wanted to curl up and go to bed. After researching a few salons that specifically had expertise in the care of natural hair and health, I decided to give Soultry a try. I arrived just after the salon opened at around 9:45 am. My appointment was at 10:00 am. I was greeted and offered coffee while I waited for my stylist to arrive. I had my first appointment with Mumtahanah yesterday and was very pleased with the results. The services I had included a protein treatment prior to semi-perm color. We decided on a color a bit lighter that resulted in dark enough for me to cover my stubborn to color hairline and also gave me subtle highlights. After blowing dry, my hair was cut into a long, slightly asymmetrical bob, followed with a light flat iron. My hair was a mess so I had at least 4 inches cut, but now I feel like after the cut and color I am on my way to getting my hair back into shape. I have my next appointment for a hair health check, color glaze to add more shine and a blow out in two weeks. The staff was friendly, the salon clean, the other patrons personable. My stylist moved me through my appointment quickly and efficiently. I am looking forward to my future visits! read more

She works with long hair, short hair, colors, weaves, naturals, etc. I just moved back to Jersey and decided to try a new salon and read the previous reviews about this place. Salon quality products are used, and I am able to maintain my hair in between appointments. I love the atmosphere of the salon and they do not overbook their appointments. I was looking for a spot to get my hair done last minute. I have natural hair and wanted a blow out. This was the only option and looking at these yelp reviews I went in with high hopes. My hair was styled by Velma. She was kind and very fast, but the end result was just ok. Sometimes with blow outs it is a hit or miss. It may have been the products that were used or the fact that she chose to blow dry my hair with a diffuser to detangle it, blow dry it with a round brush, flat iron it bone straight, then flat iron it again to give it that nice bump at the ends. I think all that heat, plus the products used left my hair feeling dry. As I looked around at the other ladies getting their hair done, none of them looked that much better to be honest (regardless if they had natural hair or not). I was glad I had the yelp discount but I don't think I'll return again. read more

I would marvel at how beautiful the ladies leaving the chairs looked, when they were done & walked pass me, as I was sitting under the dryer. After my previous stylist left, I had the pleasure of having Rameena do my hair. When I used to relax my hair, it always came out looking shiny, healthy. She even gave me courage to try out some flexi-rod curls and I fell in love with the look. I got so many compliments on it. Now that I'm natural and have a really short hairstyle, I've taken to doing my hair myself. However, I would definitely recommend you visit. So I decided to try this place out again for their haircare treatments after not returning for years. The atmosphere and service was great. My stylist really took her time on my hair and the finishing product was pretty good. BUT... I remembered why I have not returned to this salon in a while. I specifically asked for a treatment and told her that I do not want to be style because my hair is naturally curly and she stated that after she wash it, she applies a finisher. I asked the price of it and she stated that it was included. Now, I only came for a $50 treatment and made that very clear, but when I get to the register, I am charged $85.00 for the service. My sister, who expected to spend around $15, ended with a $50.00 Bill. I immediately recalled this is what happened the last time. I do not think it fair to scheme and gimmick your cleintele. For this reason, I will not be returning. As a naturalist, You can get the same quality service at Salon Femi in Bloomfield, NJ without the surprises in the price. read more

My hair was in need of major surgery due to a botched color job at another salon. I was desperate to find a stylist who would take the time to provide a personal consultation. She took her time and explained everything and answered all my questions. Her advice was great and my hair is on the road to recovery. She made a client out of me and will be returning with my 8 year old. Great location, lots of space. I took my daughter here to get a deep condition and a trim. First thing we got there for a 10am appt. and they were running a bit late...she was called up at 10:02! Wow! A salon that was on time! That has never happened to me before so I was a bit confused. :-). Everyone there was friendly, professional, knowledgable and quick to advise. My daughter's hair came out great. I needed some hair care products and as I was passing by I noticed the store, stepped in to get their expertise and was pleasantly surprised when most of the staff chipped in to give me the recommendation of the best brands to buy for my hair. I loved Natonya (might be spelling it incorrectly) after the first visit. She not only blew my hair out so that it wasn't totally fried and damaged, but she was all about helping me grow my hair. Every woman and child I see in there always leaves looking amazing. The shop is a nice size - not huge but not tiny - and is kept up. They always have a great playlist going and I'm never there for hours! Most important of all, the prices here are super reasonable. While in ATL I paid over $100 a pop to get a deep conditioner, natural blow out and some curls. Here I pay between $50-60.
